So where do I start... so it was an amazing weekend seeing all people of color come together to celebrate what we shared at heart "MUSIC". The festivities started on Thursday with a duration of fun to Sunday. Every year the experience as the host brings people together and really know how to secured everyone's heart and soul, especially safety at hand for everyone to experience a joyful time.
In it's entirety of African American entrepreneurs, doctors, accountants, Executive Assistants, IT managers, Lawyers, Dentists, Counselors, Psychologists, Fitness Trainers, the list goes on and on... just people all over taking time for vacation flying from major cities to experience Arizona and to have a good time ended in such a shocking moment that took me back in a time I thought I would never come across in such a well diverse establishment (I thought).
My moment of having a wonderful experience turned dramatically into something disturbing. My future of once again coming back for more, took a racist remark to shock my system to remind me that people of our color were at the heart of not feeling welcome, shortly after an incident of one person being over charged and decided to dispute the matter calmly.
The aftermath of a remark caused a moment of silence as the music ended and asked by the owners to shut the music down that was provided by such great DJs to later find out the type of music playing was not accommodating to the regular patrons. People were having a good time socializing, eating , drinking, and just plainly enjoying the vibes of such a soothing atmosphere, this was a new vibe for those who were visiting for the first time.
The shocking moment continues as "WE" were referred to as "ANIMALS" and not to be served shortly after the incident because this establishment thought everyone of color was going to not pay their tabs and give tips, so the decision to have everyone close their tabs , in which I was followed by my server not knowing what went down after I'm coming out the restroom going back to my table to finish my food and drink. Is it the fact that WE come into an establishment in crowds WE are all connected and know each other.
The remark from this patron's server was truly a terrible and belittling choice of words at mind to share without any thought or hesitation. "Let the animals get served on the other side". Did she not know the music was at a low for others to hear well and clear enough..... is this what we call patrons now? I can see your logo has tigers, so is this the term your employers train you to use.
I as a patron who has not visited and willing ready to spend well of enough money here to have a good time with friends and meeting people of all colors and ethnicities, felt like our money was not good enough to entertain your business. I can clearly see race matters in keeping a known establishment. How about changing your business logo to something more friendlier than ANIMALS, because it's clearly "ANIMALS" are not welcomed. I'll take my jungle money somewhere else and I'll make sure to let all my tour buddies know!!!!
