Where do I begin? The interior decor is just so thoughtfully curated. We love the adorable barstools to the bathroom tiles and bright natural lighting in the dining area. I've been dying to try Palm Palm since it opened. I thought restaurant week would be the perfect way to sample much of the menu. I made a reservation for bar seating. This was strike one for me, reserving bar seating to me means a seat at the bar not a lounge area with tables knee high. That said the server did her best to keep up but she was also acting as a bartender for the packed restaurant and there were times we had to wait for follow up (or a red wine for my friend's dinner). That said, the food I got to taste was delicious. The toasted cheese dumplings were amazing and my favorite! I could have had 50 of them. The salmon was perfectly cooked but due to menu drafting left some wanting of color on the plate. The only thing missing from my meal was the crème brûlée which was the whole reason I selected the restaurant (besides wanting to try it). It was heart breaking as I witnessed other tables smiling and eating such a magnificent looking dessert. All and all, maybe restaurant week was not the right time to try as new place, but I'd give it another chance. read more

We made early dinner reservations for a Saturday night, and from the moment we walked in, the staff was so friendly and attentive. We started with drinks followed by a handful of tapas to share. Palm Palm is a new restaurant in East Liberty! Parking was pretty easy - there's a parking lot right behind or street parking available. For happy hour, you have to sit at the bar or the lounge area. It was very busy for a Wednesday night so definitely make reservations! I had the homemade ginger lemon soda and it had really nice flavor. I had the buffalo chicken sliders and they were super good - not too spicy. The fried goat cheese was SO good and I loved the pesto that came with it. The truffle fries were also delicious. I ended the night with the dark desire dessert - very, very good but super rich so definitely share it! Our server was so attentive and friendly. Overall this is a great new spot in Pittsburgh! The owner, Herky, saw my original review and reached out to me regarding my experience. He apologized profusely for the miscommunication of the price of a special and invited me to come back and really pulled out the red carpet treatment. Everyone on this staff, the owner, chef, and service staff are all very dedicated to providing a peak experience. Also the chocolate raspberry dessert, I forget the name, might've been the best dessert I've ever had. Last night my "going out to eat club" went to Palm Palm. We could not have been more pleased! We did have an early reservation and it initally was not crowded but the server was excellent! She even took us through the kitchen to show us the dessert selection. In case you were wondering the kitchen was immaculate and well organized. We had some craft cocktails I do not recall the names but mine had blackberries in it and was great. Then we proceeded to go though most of the small plate menu. What I liked was they were fine with us ordering one or two dishes at a time. The plates were cleared and replaced promptly. We had the meatballs, crab fritters, oysters, lettuce wraps and the spaghetti o's and the lobster rolls. I honestly could not tell you what I liked the most. For dessert we had the almond torte and dark desire. Both desserts could easily serve 3-4. We will be back! read more

This new East End joint nails it. The menu is biased toward tapas but there are certainly some lovely full-portion mains as well. We suspect the menu is likely to change dynamically depending on what is in season and what suits Chef's fancy, so rather than comment on specific dishes we thought it more germane to note that menu composition is thoughtful and fun, and kitchen rendered nicely across the four plates we had. The food here is really very good. Our cocktails were excellent; our group sampled four and found each of them lovely and as represented on the menu. Palm Palm is clearly focused on front of house. Our server was gracious, engaged, and comfortable commenting on both the food and cocktail menus. Front of house was *very* well staffed. They had enough people to make light work of running all of the tables. Physical plant is open and lovely: lots of natural light and some nice views of the surrounding streetscape. I have been lucky enough to dine at Palm Palm twice so far this summer, once on a Friday evening and once on a Sunday late evening. Both experiences were very good. The Friday evening experience we booked a table for 8, unfortunately 2 in our party were unable to attend at the last minute due to illness but the restaurant took it in stride. In fact, we were seated in a stunning private room through the kitchen! One of two private rooms (that I saw) that are situated through/in the kitchen. There are glass walls and doors so you have an epic view of the kitchen. The second experience was a small party of 3 and we were seated in the equally beautiful main dining room. The service experience was also top notch, it truly felt like a high end dining experience due to the professionalism of the staff (plus the decor). The menu was fun, dozens of small plates to choose from, less large plates but a good variety in both categories. I actually think the menu is a bit too large, slightly overwhelming and there is not an obvious food genre that I can nail down. The food was good, but not as good as the service and ambiance would lead you to believe. I hate to say this, but some of the items felt like bar food and I think if the menu was refined the execution could be perfected and the food would be as outstanding as everything else they have to offer. Met up with a group of friends to have brunch at Palm Palm on a very, very snowy Sunday. The elevator and parking access were perfect for this blustery day. Inside the restaurant was light and bright and you almost forgot you were in the middle of Pittsburgh. To warm up, I started with the Cold Brew brunch cocktail. The flavors blended well and were a perfect amount of spice on a cold day, and the whipped cream on top was luscious and creamy. As we looked over the menu Jake, our server, was excited about the food options and went into detail about his favorites and must-haves. He shared a bit about the design choices as well as the restaurant ties to Ritual House in Downtown Pittsburgh. We started with the bruleed oranges and the deviled eggs. I am still thinking about both of these dishes! The deviled eggs tasted like ones I would make at home, and the bruleed oranges had the most unique flavors and textures that we were all trying to identify. I selected the Crab Cake Benedict and ordered a side of Breakfast Potatoes. Everything was delicious with the benedict and the potatoes were perfectly seasoned. The potatoes could easily be split between a second diner. We all enjoyed taking pictures and enjoying delicious food. I can not wait to go back and share this place with others. Even the bathroom had gorgeous colors and textures, plus near floor-to-ceiling partitions for better privacy. WOW. A favorite new spot in Pittsburgh, the food, service and overall vibe was beyond! Despite being at one of the busiest PGH intersections, Palm Palm really transports you to a calm environment, even on their patio! It's hard to begin to the review the menu. The Short Rib BBQ, Key Lime Pie and mini lobster rolls are definitely top of my list with an honorable mention for the brûléed oranges because they were so different from a typical PGH menu. This is THE spot for a date or girls nights. Having such a broad selection of easy to share plates was amazing. Such a broad selection is perfect for people who like to try and pass, even thought things were so good I can't say I had an easy time passing along the Fried Rice and soft shell crab special! The desserts were OUT of the park. You might be tempted to fill up on the mains, but leave room. You can take small and large plates home but you have to try the Key Lime pie and Citrus & Sesame. We got: Kimchi fried rice, Shishito peppers, Roasted Carrots, Short rib BBQ, Sweet corn Taquito, Wagu Ragu, Shrimp Ceviche. This spot was great! First I will suggest making a reservation - I went on a Thursday and it got full fast. The staff was amazing! Our waitress was so kind and attentive, plus two managers came over to check on us and make sure we had a good experience. We were sat right up front by the entrance, so I didn't feel like I got to explore the place, but from what I saw it was adorable and so trendy. I got the lychee coconut homemade soda for my non-alcoholic beverage and it was delicious! Then we got the regular (non-truffle) French fries that had so much flavor. I had a very enjoyable experience at Palm Palm. I went for my birthday dinner around 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon. We were a party of 6. We were greeted warmly and sat a beautiful table right away. The vibe there was immaculate, beautiful lighting, and furniture. We all collectively ordered many things from the menu. From being able to sample most of the menu, I give the food a 3/5. Some of things were just very under seasoned or overly seasoned. My favorite, by far, were the truffle spaghettios. I would return again just to have these. We also had the Caesar salad, the truffle fries, French onion meatballs, seafood skewers and Brussels sprouts. The meatballs were not a hit for our group. We let the server know and he allowed my guests to order something else. The manager also came to speak to our table to see how they could better the meatballs. I LOVED the service and attention to making things better. The seafood skewers were fantastic for the first few bites but were too heavily seasoned. It made it hard to get through these. This restaurant is located in East Liberty, sort of under/next to the parking structure near the market district. So there is the parking lot which is great. I will say I didn't love the ambiance in there. The lighting was weird and was my main issue. I see what they are going for but it felt weird to me. It was also quite loud as others have noted. Our service was good. We ordered some cocktails (both were very good). Then we ordered quite a mix of small plates and one large plate to try. Overall everything was quite tasty (albiet on the slightly pricier side). We tried Bruleed oranges (from Ritual House, I love these but they are on the sweeter side), Street corn taquitos (they were just meh), Roasted carrots (good), Truffle fries (obsessed- love that they serve the little truffle oil on the side to add as you like), Caesar salad (very good, what you'd expect), Grilled cheese and tomato soup dumplings (tasty and cool to try at least once), Truffle spaghetti's (YUMMM - if you like truffle this was fabulous), Waygu meatballs with french onion and gruyere (surprisingly good), New Orleans oysters (good if you like oysters), and lastly the short rib (was very good but we were so full so had to take most of it home).
