Enjoyed the brunch/breakfast at Palate Kitchen. They have a good variety of options on their menu. I ordered the chai tea latte with almond milk and it was perfectly spiced and delicious. For food, they have a few fully loaded toasts to choose from. I opted for the lamb bistro toast and added mushrooms. The lamb bistro toast includes slices of slow cooked lamb, emmental cheese, hummus, greens and fried egg. It was a good portion size for me and had all the flavours I liked. A new brunch concept by Palate and I was thoroughly impressed! They have brunch for dine in and we got the salmon eggs benedict and it was on point! The eggs were runny just how I like them and the bread was toasted to perfection. I was a big fan of the sesame and pumpkin seeds sprinkled around which add just a bit more flavor. I came here with a friend during a special promotion where they were offering 30% off dinner, and overall had a good experience. The restaurant interiors are lovely and I think that the place works well for either daytime or nighttime dining, allowing for 2 distinct experiences. Based on other Yelp photos and reviews that I saw, it seems like this is more of a brunch/lunch spot though. We sat in the upstairs section that was on the opposite side of the restaurant entrance. There were other groups in tables near us but the acoustics were good and it was not noisy at all, and still felt private enough. Our server was really personable and knowledgeable about the menu, which I appreciated. She was also very attentive and came back several times to top up our water and check in on us during our meal. We started off with the mezze platter - an assortment of Mediterranean foods including grilled halloumi cheese, falafel, meatballs and hummus. Everything here was done well and had complementary flavor profiles. For my main dish, I ordered the halibut which came with risotto. I was pleasantly surprised to receive not one, but two pieces of halibut which was rather generous. The halibut was fresh and perfectly cooked but a bit salty. It seemed like it was marinated with salt yet also there was some finishing salt added. The risotto with mushrooms was tasty, but some areas of the risotto were a tad bit undercooked. Overall the food was good but could use a little further refinement. Although we said we were full, our server insisted on offering us dessert - on the house. Very airy space with a second floor for seating. We had to wait about 25min for our table but it wasn't so bad as the area is very walkable and made the time fly. The food was super tasty. I got the Fjord which was a Gravlax salmon (anyone watch Brad Leone on Bon Appetit make this?) and avocado on toast. The portion size (amount of salmon alone) was great! My bf got The Halloumi (if you don't know what halloumi cheese is, you're missing out!) and he loved it. The side of a single hot cake was very tasty and let us get a taste of something they're known for without dying from sugar overdose. I also got a side of potatoes that were really lacklustre. Some more salt or a side of ketchup/hot sauce would have made all the difference. I would have asked for ketchup or something but the servers were very hard to get a hold of. Once they sat us down, it was probably 10-15 min before they returned to take our order. The food service was also quite slow but that's forgivable for COVID reasons. However, I wouldn't recommend coming here it'll you're in a rush as even asking for our bill took awhile. That said, I'd be happy to come back to try another one of their unique options the next time I have a lazy day and can make time for a slower paced brunch/lunch. read more

The first thing you'll notice as you walk in is the heritage facade of the restaurant, and lovely interior design to match. It's an amazing atmosphere to dine. The food blows you away equally, the Lamb Bistro Toast was the best mix of textures, and the Kefta Skillet transported you to the Mediterranean. Restaurants are finally stating to accept dine-in and I must say, I miss it so much!! Went to Palate Kitchen to have a very late brunch. The restaurant itself is very spacious practicing social distancing. We went on the off hour so not alot of people where dining in. Had a taste of the eggs benny and the hollandaise sauce is just the perfect flavour. The mushroom truffle, doesn't have a strong smell of truffle but you can taste a hint of it! Definitely one of my choices if I want a healthier choice! LASTLY THE FRENCH TOAST IS AMAZING. I say that with all caps because it's just out of this world! Not a bad brunch joint at all! The atmosphere is pretty casual, but the interior is lovely-- its a repurposed vintage building with a ground level and second floor. I ordered the breakfast burger and it was decently well done but nothing spectacular; the side of roasted potatoes was unimpressive, however, considering other brunch places that do sides like golden hash, truffle frites, etc. Its a good place to check out overall but not my #1 pick for brunch. One of the most talked about new restaurants at the start of 2020, definitely looked forward to giving it a try. The location itself is gorgeous inside and it feels clean and fresh. Interesting layout where there's two separate upstairs sections. Our server recommended the cortado which was excellent with rich espresso and a creamy finish. My girlfriend ordered an oat milk latte which was also very good. Their coffee shop roots show in a very good way. I ordered the Kefta Tagine which I felt was a little unimaginative. The meatballs are pretty average and the whole plate doesn't really make sense with the poached eggs and sauce. It's not a balanced dish either but it's one of their specialties. We also ordered the BBQ pork Benny which was a bit spicier than I expected but overall it was pretty tasty. At $17 it's on the pricier side for a Benny in Vancouver that comes with no sides. We were most excited to try the mascarpone skillet hot cake which did not disappoint. Awesome texture and flavours and a great note to finish on. At $15 it is steep for what it is as the portion is quite small. Things could get expensive real quick if you came here on an empty stomach. That being said, having all the staff and such a beautiful location isn't free so I think what they're charging is fair albeit more than some Vancouver brunch staples. read more

My dining companions and I really wanted to like this place: it's newly opened, the space looked tidy and the mid-century mod chairs were comfortable; alas it was not to be. Unfortunately our hopes that a newly opened brunch spot would have food, service and beverages to impress were dashed. The first thing you'll notice after you're settled in your seat (we were in the main dining area), is the smell of "fried" - the overpowering smell of cooked oil from the open concept kitchen that will permeate into your hair and clothes. The next would be your friendly but possibly slightly haphazard waitperson that is unfamiliar about both their small beverage and food menus. For an eatery opened by the same team as a coffee roasters like Pallet Coffee Roasters, you'd think they would have, and be able to have the beverages like Cold Brew and Homemade Iced Tea that's listed on their menu. No to both - however they will take order for "Homemade Iced Tea", serve you a small cup of bottled Pure Leaf Tea (you know the one you get at the major chain supermarkets) and charge you $4 +tax and tip for it. Oh the shame! Our party ordered a few serves of the "Modena Steak", a couple of other items like burgers and some of the "Mini Hot Cakes". Our haphazard server told us in no uncertain terms that the "Modena Steaks" are served medium rare as per the chef's preference - the four steaks we received were all of various temperatures, none of which were medium rare. The "Modena Steak" at Palate Kitchen is piece of steak (cooked somewhere between medium and well-done), seemingly cooked with little no consistency where it comes to temperature, served atop an unseasoned hockey puck of fried polenta, topped with sautéed mushrooms and balsamic sauce, paired with a smear of overly-sweet, unseasoned parsnip purée. The dish is unbalanced, overly sweet and a bit of a mess really - at least it's served on nice plates?! Mini Hot Cakes are all served in individual piping hot mini skillets, regardless if you order single or trio - something our haphazard server didn't think relevant to tell us. The ones served with chocolate syrup were generally well received, the "mixed berry mascarpone" syrup tasted like basic supermarket bought mixed berry yoghurt - given this eatery happily substitutes store bought Pure Leaf tea as their "Homemade Iced Tea", I wouldn't put it past them. Texturally, the mini hot cakes were like a dry cross between a pikelet and a crumpet. To everyone that thinks "oh they just opened, you can't expect it to be perfect" - well I don't expect to be ripped off either. It's a nice looking space, too bad about the food, beverage and service. read more

We really wanted to like this spot. From the moment you walk through the door, the spacious interior and decor lives up to what cafe-brunch spots are all about. We were advised that there was a minimum of a 20 minute wait by the hostess but that was also the same mantra she gave everyone else... the wait was more about the 30 minute mark and we did see some tables that were empty but had not been cleaned. When it came time to order, I ordered the Palate burger but was informed that it had been sold out for the day. The waitress commented that she should have let me know before we started ordering.... YES, YES you should have... I don't really like going to cafe spots for brunch because of the lack of variety on their menu and somehow, that's how I felt about this menu. There's something about it that was underwhelming. There weren't many stand out items that I really wanted to try so it was difficult to settle on the 'next best thing' to order. I eventually ordered a Mushroom Toast, with no add-ons; egg is an additional charge. The Mushroom Toast came with a crust and was very hard to cut; the waitress noticed and commented that she should bring a steak knife for me; yes you should. While the steak knife did help with cutting up the toast, the crust was so hard that I decided to just hollow up the insides and cut the crust off. There's truffle in the hummus which sounds weird and tasted like a combination that shouldn't be together. Perhaps it was truffled mushrooms that would make more sense but I wasn't a big fan of the truffle hummus. The Kefta Tagine is from their signature menu and my friends really appreciated that you can really taste that the meatballs were hand-made. The only downside of this was that we asked for no olives but both of the Kefta Tagine skillets that we got had olives and multiple pieces of it. Thankfully, no one had an olive allergy but if it's not possible to do the dish without it, someone should have told us instead of serving it anyways. We also ordered a round of lattes. When the drinks came, the waitress dropped a spoon that was on the plate with the lattes. She said she'd return with another one but she never did. We had to follow up with our waitress to get one. 2 of the drinks came with coffee art (a latte and a heart) and 1 came with a giant circle. It wouldn't have been very obvious all of the drinks came with the circle but for it to be mismatched was a little disappointing. I feel iffy about returning to this spot. Perhaps it's been the hype and interior spacing that makes you want to love this place but somehow, our experience fell short. We were well done our lattes before food arrived so we expected the same when we were paying but payment was much faster. Due to the timing, it felt like we were there to have two separate experiences: drinking coffee and having food. While the overall atmosphere is good, I wouldn't recommend getting what we got, everything fell just a little short of expectations. read more

I love this place. I've been here twice already and I've been pretty satisfied. Let's start with the ambiance. On both occasions I was seated upstairs. They have two upper levels (one on each side of the restaurant). The food is pretty great. The avocado toast and mushroom toast were to die for. The French toast is incredible! Just get the French toast, trust me. The only thing I didn't like was the individual hot cake. I found that it tasted too eggy. I chose the fruit topping, and my friend chose chocolate and caramel, which I think hid the eggy flavour. The service is great. All my servers were on point. The pomegranate mimosa is so good. They don't top up black coffee which I thought was odd and stingy. It is only 2.50 I believe. All in all I'd go back again, especially to try high tea! Yes, they do high tea. read more

**rating is actually 3.5 but you cant do half stars on yelp so..** another foodie outing with a - actually the first one since the reopening! the foodie grp got tgt at my place with takeout before this BUT that's a little diff. i've always wanted to try this place out after it opened but then ofc, COVID decided to be a party-pooper and rain on everyone's parade. now that we're in phase 3 of the reopening plan, a and i decided to try it out. made resos and...fast fwd to today! we were both running a little late so i called ahead to let them know - they were super nice and moved our reso to 12pm. got there earlier than planned (lol) and was directed to my table right away. there were arrows, santizer and 6ft apart btw tables. one-time use menus were provided and a got in a little after me. we actually both knew what we wanted but...we did ask our server abt the hotcakes. a wanted to try the mascarpone hotcake but was unsure of the size. our waitress was super helpful - she advised that if we were both getting a main dish (of sorts), the mini hotcakes would be better. that is exactly what we did! because it was brunch, a and i even got a caffeinated drink (surprise ik). i got a latte - delish and strong enough to wake julia up (at 12pm lol). a had a flat white with oat milk - also delish she said. there was little hiccup with the ordering - it wasnt rly anyone's fault, just miscommunication. there're high ceilings in the building so it can get a bit echoey when there are a few more tables around, all talking at once. i ordered the palate breakfast, because i was craving a full breakfast. a wanted the halloumi but in the echoy confusion, that was missed but it was corrected so no problemo. we ordered the mini hotcake trio to share - 70% dark chocolate, mixed berry and mascarpone, and maple syrup for the toppings. both of us felt the dishes were a bit bland. the strongest flavour in my dish was the pot of beans, and there was weird taste to the oil that was dressed on the sourdough toast. likewise with a, she felt that her dish was a little short because there was no seasoning in her dish. we liked the mini hotcake trio - perfect size - and the mini cast iron skillet kept it warm. however, the hotcake was sitting in a little pool of syrup that when you get to the last hotcake, it was VERY sweet as it was sitting in that pool of syrup the whole time. the mascarpone was the best topping, and the 70% dark chocolate reminded us of nutella tbqh lol service was wonderful and the atmosphere (despite the echoing) was nice. if the dishes could be a little more flavourful and the pool of syrup eliminated frm the hotcakes, it would be def be a place that i'd try again. read more

Breakfast time!!! It's been a hot minute since I found a super astonishing and photo worthy brunch place and my only regret is not coming sooner. * Pulled pork egg Benedict ($19) ~ this was super delicious, the pulled pork was super tender and flavourful. The bbq sauce was rich and not too overpowering. It came on a ciabatta bread and it was soft and chewy. Eggs perfectly cooked, and presentation was amazing. Hollandaise sauce was thick and well made. * Roasted potatoes ($5) ~ a nice side of roasted potatoes as a side with the breakfast. The potatoes were soft and a bit crispy with the exterior shell. It wasn't too harsh with seasoning so a bit on the lighter side which was good as the egg Benedict was very flavourful already. * Avocado toast ($16) ~ stunning, came with perfect poached soft egg, with smashed avocado, goat cheese, and pickled crispy shallots. It was a pretty bomb avocado toast! The bread was nicely soft and fresh. * Fresh fruit ($9) ~ this had a variety of fresh fruits and they were all super sweet. * London fog ($4.50) ~ it's unsweetened but came with a side of sweetener. I personally thought it was ok. I do wish it was sweetened but I wasn't a fan of the sweeter on the side tasted like corn syrup... * Also got orange juice ($4). * 8/10 ~ I enjoyed the pulled pork and the avocado toast! It was delicious and very well seasoned. I do wish the potatoes were more salty and seasoned. I also wish the London fog had a different sweetener option. * 4/10 ~ not cheap at all though. It's definitely a nice treat once in a while but it can get super pricy as things add up quickly. Wow! This place is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! Right as we walked in, my friend and I absolutely loved the ambience and decor. I highly reccomend getting a reservation beforehand if you want a nice table with a view. What's so cool about this place is that on each side they have a set of stairs which is where the seating is and it's so beautiful. We were lucky to be sat by the window and my friend commented how it felt like we were not in Vancouver. The staff here are very sweet, we were lucky to have Lalaine take care of us for our brunch! My friends and I all decided to get the eggs benny, I got the one with BBQ pulled pork, my friend got the mushroom one and my other friend got the one with gravlox salmon. We also got an additional side of gravlox salmon and roasted potatoes to share. The bennys came out pretty quickly and the plating is absolutely gorgeous! All the bennys were placed on top of some buttered ciabatta bread and some seared spinach. The eggs were poached to perfection and had a beautiful golden orange yolk and the hollandaise sauce was really well done as well. The BBQ pulled pork was on the sweeter side which I enjoyed and the meat was very tender and moist, not dry at all. I loved the mushrooms that they used on the mushroom benny, it was a nice variety of wild mushrooms like chanterelles and oyster mushrooms. The gravlox salmon was so fresh and delicious and the roasted potatoes were nicely seasoned. For drinks, we got the mimosa for 2 with pineapple juice and an oatmeal latte. My friend really enjoyed her latte since Palate is owned by Palette Coffee Roasters, it was really delicious. For dessert, we got one of the hotcakes with a side of caramel sauce to share. The hotcake is like a thick pancake drenched in syrup and the hot caramel sauce was really nice, it was quite sweet but was perfect sweetness to share between 3 people. The brunch left me very full and tasted so delicious, it's not one of the heavier brunches where it's filling and super greasy which I really liked! I think this is a really nice spot! I was lucky to get a table on the top floor. The food is really beautifully put together, and it tastes really great! My only complaint was it was slightly cold. The place was also really gorgeous. We sat next to the area where the chefs were working and I was impressed at how quietly and diligently they worked. We got our food pretty fast too. A hidden gem. It's a very instagrammable place to take picture. When we went it was quiet Tuesday morning and we avoided the weekend crowd. The English breakfast was delicious and so much delicious food and it was great value. The pour over coffee is what you expect from Palate Coffee Roastery. A bright and pleasant spot to enjoy coffee and brunch. This building is a beautifully restored heritage building with high ceilings and two loft-like seating areas on either end of this seemingly long space. The middle space is more seating, coffee bar and open style kitchen. For sure an open space, the noise level is quite minimal. With most tables occupied during my visit, I didn't feel I have to yell to be heard. Next comes the coffee part which, if you're from the area, you probably heard of Pallet Coffee Roasters. They're local and have several locations throughout Lower Mainland. My friend had two flat whites during our 1.5hrs visit because it was that delicious! A good brunch needs really good caffeine to go along with it. With such a strong coffee presence, most might think their foods would be mediocre. I was thoroughly pleased with my halloumi toast. It looked pretty and tasted darn good. There are lots of sprouts on it so I felt somewhat healthy eating it also...bonus! The not-so-healthy but very delicious dish would be their hotcakes. Mini size cake served in its own cast iron dish topped with berries and melted butter with a side of berry infused cream. Crazy how I can be so descriptive with a dish I ate more than two months ago. First off, they're not wheelchair accessible. We went with our baby for lunch, but there are only stairs, so we had to carry the whole stroller up, but there's handicap washroom. If they can't even get into the restaurant, who is the washroom for anyway? Not sure if there's changing table inside the handicap washroom cuz when I wanted to change my baby, someone was in there, so I can't say if they're babies friendly. Second of all, I was choked when the hostess asked if we wanted to sit upstairs knowing we had a stroller and they ONLY HAD STAIRS! What kind of question was that?? But all that aside, food is alright here, the steak for the steak and eggs can only be cooked to medium or more, but it wasn't chewy or anything. We'd seen the hype and the reviews by all of the bloggers online and we were finally trying it out! As expected there was a bit of a wait for a table but it was pretty reasonable. We had dissected the menu while waiting and knew exactly what we wanted to order. Our waitress took our drink orders and returned a while later to take our food orders: two kefta tagines without olives, and the palate burger. At this point our waitress responded with embarrassment that they were sold out of the burger and forgot to tell us earlier. When our drinks arrived, we were perplexed by the white blob/latte art on my matcha oat milk latte. I'm not sure if this can also be considered an "artwork" but as my friends' drinks both came with intricate leaves and a heart I was definitely disappointed that I just got a round circle. At first I thought it was too difficult to do latte art with oat milk perhaps, but my friend quickly debunked this by using a fork to make a smiley face in my cup (and also her drink also used oat milk and she was able to get a design). Minus points for inconsistency. A different server had brought us our drinks and she had knocked the latte spoon to the ground and offered to bring a replacement - except she never did and we had to flag down another server to bring us a replacement. Our food took a while to arrive but it was to be expected due to the amount of customers. The first cut into the poached egg found.... completely cooked yolk. The second cut into the other poached egg found.... another solid yolk. My friend's eggs were both exactly the same, solid yolk. I was very disappointed as I always expect some level of runny yolk when I order poached eggs. Midway through eating, I discovered an olive while my friend found three-four olives. If either of us had an olive allergy this would have ended very badly for us. If it wasn't possible to remove olives from the dish then our waitress should have mentioned it and we would have ordered another item. Meanwhile my other friend was unsuccessfully trying to cut through her replacement mushroom toast with what was essentially a butterknife and a rock hard slice of toast. Our waitress offered to get a steak knife for her (bonus points) which made it more tolerable to cut through. Overall I wasn't impressed with Palate Kitchen, I won't be back again. They weren't able to execute poached eggs properly or accommodate special requests (and had not mentioned they wouldn't be able to). They get 3 stars for the ambience/interior, tasty meatballs, and the waitress' quick thinking and observation in bringing a steak knife when she noticed a guest struggling. read more

Stopped in for a bite to eat. I had the Palate Breakfast. Quite satisfying. Service was good. Will stop in again when next in Vancouver.

The food was to die for. A great stop to enjoy great quality food for a reasonable price, our server was great and made suggestions as to guide us on making better choices to our food selection without trying to sell us on something we didn't need. The ambiance is okay, we got sat next to the kitchen which isn't my thing but the other people in my party seemed to like the chefs working away and putting " soul and spirit " into our food. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good quality breakfast and lunch options with some time to enjoy it :) read more
