We arrived at 2pm. The gal at reception (Ajay) informed that check-in is 4pm (why so late???), and that our room was presently being cleaned and would be ready in 35 minutes. At 2:45 we returned to reception, and Ajay said '..another 15 minutes'. Other people were milling around in reception and we learned that they too were in the same boat. At 3:15, now over an hour since we were told 35 minutes, Ajay said '..another 10 minutes'. At 3:50, a gentleman appeared next to Ajay, and apparently sensed our angry vibe as I approached Ajay. He aggressively pointed to a sign on the counter that said Check In 4:00. I said that's fine and good, but we were told at 2pm that we'd have our room in 35 minutes. He protested angrily, saying 'that was an estimate'. Finally, at only a few moments before 4pm, we received our key. Had they been honest up front, we'd have left our bags and attended our affair that started at 3pm. Instead, we missed a big portion of our event. It's a shame, because the bartender, maid, and waitresses were all sweet. The food was good, drinks good room fine. But man, those two up at reception ruined everything. Course is still a delight to play. The two nines are distinctly different and challenging in their own ways. There are some great risk/reward holes and if you know how to play this course you can shoot a good score. But it's also very easy to blow up on some of the tighter/more tree lined areas. Hands down one of the worst hotel/resort stay experience I've ever had. I recently stayed here to be near a wedding venue and everything was disappointing about our King room. They should be ashamed at what they charge people to stay here. The only positives are that the room was large and the grounds outside were scenic and looked nice. The room smelled moldy, stale and dirty. It was so bad that we had go out and buy an air freshener spray. Walls were vile and looked like they hadn't been cleaned properly in years, carpet is stained and gross and smells, the whole room looked like it needed to be fixed up. Bed, pillows, sheets were horribly uncomfortable and the bath tub floor looked like it was out of a dorm room, not a resort. Our blow dryer was actually melted from over use and burning (major hazard, can't believe they left it in there until we complained), which I found out within a few minutes of trying to use it to get ready for a rehearsal dinner. We had to speak to 4 different people before getting a new one and ended up being late to our event. The icing on the dumpster cake is when they lost power for at least 5 1/2 hours and I had to go to friends hotel in a different town to get ready. I get that the power issues were likely out of their control but I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have generators. The staff was smug, horribly rude, and not accommodating at all when we expressed our disappointment with the numerous issues and asked for some sort of compensation (which we didn't receive). Front desk guy actually told us to "take it up" with the electric company... Do yourself a favor and don't stay here. read more

We held a week long National Dog Show at Pala Mesa. I have been working with Sarah Raymer and Beth Hunt for almost 2 years. They were unbelievably helpful and a delight to work with. The rooms are a bit tired, but they are large and comfortable and I was very happy, as were all of my guests. The restaurant has outstanding food, but they were sadly unprepared for the sheer volume of the guests and the waits were unacceptable, which is the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. However, both Beth and Sarah met with me and made every attempt to resolve this issue. I have no doubt that this will not be an issue in the future, and I would unhesitatingly hold another dog show there. They are also an extremely dog friendly establishment, and I know that I will be returning to their outstanding restaurant to eat on the patio with my dogs! read more

I went to a restaurant in the resort, reservations made previously, and ordered. They took 50 minutes to bring my order, only for it to be the wrong plate. I informed them about their mistakes but all they did was make excuses about the tired kitchen staff and did not replace my food. Already dissatisfied from the dinner incident, my husband and I went to our room to sleep the frustration away. We wake up little past 12 AM because of numerous unmoderated drunk people, over 10 people, in the pool/jacuzzi making a ruckus. After I woke up, I found many bug bites all over my body, and my husband saw a few bugs with the dim light we had. This was probably the worst experience I had in a resort. I will never go there again nor recommend others to go there. read more

We had our rehearsal, ceremony, and reception here. They are great people to work with and made everything super simple and easy. Everyone had such a great time here. Wish I am able to give a negative rating. This is the dirtiest/most run down hotel that we have ever stayed at. The place is falling apart and bug/spider infested. Employees have a lack of empathy and could care less about your comfort or your stay at the location. We had no hot water in our shower. My husband has multiple spider bites on his body. The safety lock on our door was busted and haphazardly put back on the molding. The shower/tub had been refinished and the refinish was pealing off and shards of the refinish were in the bathtub that we had to clean so they wouldn't cut our feet. When maintenance came to look at the shower they tracked mud into the room and bathroom and didn't clean it up. We spoke to the front desk in person and from the room and they wouldn't even entertain the idea of a refund and couldn't move us to a different room either. So our advise is to stay as far away as possible from this hotel. Motel 6 would be a much better choice than the Pala Mesa Resort. read more

I'm giving this place 3 stars only because we got this room at no cost for 1 night. I did however, have a chance to read a few reviews only during my stay and I have to agree with how dated this place can be. First, I noticed NO flat screen TV instead I found an old Zenith monitor TV "WTF" and then the comforter was waaayyyy uncomfortable and itchy. Lastly, for the price of $110 per night I must say I'm happy I did not have to pay. However since this place is in Temecula and your doing some Wine tasting I guess it's not so bad to stay here since it's close to everything in a convenient location. You're pretty much paying for the wonderful scenery. I was also offered a 25% off breakfast coupon which was later lost to the 18% Gratuity they take back so.....go figure. read more

Well worth trying again. Pala Mesa resort has had its share of ups and downs. I am very happy to report things are looking up! As a resident in Fallbrook I like to frequent most all of the popular places, including Aquatera at Pala Mesa. The Sunday brunch is now one of the very best in San Diego featuring an omelet bar and about a dozen other breakfast treat including oatmeal, french toast, pancakes and an assortment of meats. Seating is available in the formal dining room, the bar area and outdoors. hard to beat the Golf coarse views. read more

Be sure to inspect the room THOROUGHLY prior to putting any of your stuff down because they WILL CHARGE you TWICE the amount you pay for your room for things you did NOT do. We saw something on the floor but gave them the benefit of the doubt that they just couldn't get that stain out but NOPE! They pinned it on us! Their LAZY staff OBVIOUSLY does not clean the rooms or inspect them PROPERLY and need to be re-trained on how to do their freakin job!! So when they DO find something wrong with the room after your visit, don't be surprised they will charge you $200+ for other people's mess. They will say they have inspectors and second cleaning crews that check the room, but I seriously doubt it! if you're looking for a place to stay in Fallbrook, keep away from this shady "establishment" unless you don't mind getting charged 3 times the room rate! read more

I've personally never stayed the night at Pala Mesa so I can't comment on the rooms, but I have lived in or around the Fallbrook area on and off for 27 years. The restaurant is what really lets this place down. The staff seems inexperienced - every time I go - for the last 14 years.... Really.... I can imagine that as long as your resume is blank you're hired. The management has got to be the worst. There is certainly no sign of any management presence in the employees attitudes. There is no sense of urgency, and they will often come to your table to take your order a second time, forget your drinks all together - forget getting a refill - you know to drink slowly after your first few visits. Make sure you have at least two hours set aside to finish a meal. Thirty minutes to even be acknowledged by your waiter (he may even bring you a water if he/she is up for it) - another 15 or so to have your order taken - and you can expect to wait at the very least 45 minutes to be served your food. REGARDLESS of how empty the place is. And in fact, if they are empty - the service is WORSE then on any busy night. The food is hit and miss - you can order the same thing on a different night and have the best or worst experience of your life. The kids quesadilla is made with pepper jack cheese - when my son wouldn't eat it because it "hurt his mouth" I assumed it was because it was hot - not because it was burning his little taste buds with spicy heat! My first experience here was so good which I think is why I gave it a few more chances. I had come with a group of friends on a date night. We all ordered drinks and appetizers, along with some sushi. The drinks were good, the food was fantastic - and the staff - well we could over look the lack of service because the food and drinks were on par. My last experience here was Easter Brunch - buffet style with a promise of a fresh oyster bar and all you can eat shrimp. Well - that was pretty much it for variety. It was certainly not worth the $45 you pay. 1. the oysters were not shucked properly - or rinsed at all! They were sandy!! 2. the shrimp was rubbery and looked like anything you would find in a tray at the market. 3. the $45 you pay does NOT include your drink! Mimosas - extra. Even a fountain drinks were charged to our bill. 4 when you walk into the lobby, there is a huge sign that says $25 Brunch Buffet - what it DOES NOT STATE - is that price is for RESIDENTS ONLY. Are you kidding me?! So when your bill comes to your table and the total price for your crappy meal, horrible service, and sand - comes to over $400.00 - you get a little heated. We called the manager over and discussed our concerns with her. Her response - well, we didn't charge you for your child.... First of all - hes 2 lady - and he isn't going to eat $45 worth of oysters. And in fact, I brought him his own meal knowing he would not eat anything they were serving at the buffet. She first offered to remove the drinks from our bill - No - not acceptable. She then offered to take 10% off of the bill - No - not acceptable. Now we're playing hard ball and I'm about to walk out. She walks away with our bill and our waitress to "see what she can do", shes gone 30 minutes... testing me? I'm not sure. We send a guest from our table to go and find her - thankfully she is more calm and collected about the situation then I was - she talked the woman into giving us the $25 False Advertisement Price- as well as taking 10% off of our bill on top of that. We made sure she realized that we would never be back - and I haven't since - even though its just around the corner from my house - I'd rather go ANYWHERE else. What a joke! If you want to have a seat at the bar with some friends, kick back, have a few over priced weak cocktails - the place isn't that bad. Hah! read more

This places sucks. Seriously it sucks! It's super outdated and the beds are the worst. I woke up with the worst back pain ever. The bedrooms are very spacious, have to give them that, and there is a pool/jacuzzi. But I felt like there might be bed bugs or something - I don't know. I guess I was glad I only stayed here for a night and only for a few hours. I don't know about the food or the golf course and I really only went to get a good nights rest...which was pretty difficult to accomplish. Oh and their windows/walls are pretty thin. I could hear all the noise outside of people talking and I could hear my neighbors next door. This place seriously needs an upgrade! read more

Now we know what it was like to visit a resort in the 80's. Creepy fitness room, $17 to watch a movie on demand on an 32" box tv (90's tv). The radio is from the 80's too! There IS internet, which surprised me, but don't expect to surf it on your wireless devices unless you brought an Ethernet cable with you! We brought a couple Blu-Rays with us to watch- but no Blu-ray player. No DVD player. Jesus how can they charge so much? I'd at least have a flat screen, an iPod player, a DVD player, and the right sized bed (we reserved a king for my wife and I but they only had a room with two queens when we arrived.... really?) at a Hilton where I would pay the same price. Oh and the sliding door is nice... except when you open it there's a gate blocking you from going outside, a screen door that falls right off, and a 2 foot drop onto the mud and bushes. I guess they wanted to put a patio here but stopped at the sliding glass door? And stay away from the "fitness room" at night!! It's right out of a Halloween thriller! Extremely scary journey to get there even at 8PM. The receptionist told us we could rent tennis equipment to play tennis- she failed to mention the tennis courts were run down and when we went to the fitness room there were no staff anywhere. No tennis equipment, either. My wife was really scared to work out there- 4 huge sliding doors all around the building so anyone could see inside / enter but we couldn't see anything outside in the pitch dark night. There wasn't any lighting on the drive way over there either. Finally, the receptionist explained how convenient it was to have parking right in front of our building. However, there was a wedding happening that night (she said they have 15-20 a month) and so all of the wedding attendees filled up the overnight visitor parking. Cars were double parked and blocking staircases. Zero enforcement. We had to park 4 buildings away and carry our luggage all the way to our room. When we went to eat at their "Sushi Happy Hour" last night and for $30 we enjoyed three 6-piece sushi rolls and two lemonades. Service was slow considering that there were only 4 tables outside and two waitresses. When we were ready to leave I asked for the bill and gave her my card. My girlfriend and I were very excited to exercise using all of the facilities (this was before we discovered how bad they were). The waitress came back and told us that it would be ten minutes until their "credit card servers" were back up. She never offered a refill of our lemonade. And although I asked for a small spicy tuna roll while we waited, she ended up charging us for it when we were done waiting. We were sitting on our empty glasses with ice since before she delivered our sushi. If the amenities at the lodging side of things are horrible wouldn't they at least try to make up for it at their restaurant? We are still here but can't wait to check out. I figured I would leave my comments so we could "check-in" on yelp and let people know to stay away from here. The most outdated amenities we have ever experienced and we've been traveling around California for years. Hope it helps someone out there. We spent $300 this weekend here. If you can stay somewhere else down the 15 set your lodging and food budget to $300 and I guarantee you'll have a better experience than this. read more

One star seems too much for this dump. I recently stayed here for my daughters wedding. Also a part of the power outage issue. While it was inconveniencing and caused us to relocate our place to get ready, it was NOT the sole reason for my poor opinion. Our room was the quality of a cheap motel with a sign outside noting "no hourly rates available". You see those signs in poor parts of big cities riddled with prostitutes. FYI We had no heat in our room. The refrigerator and the television did not work. I had to walk 2 buildings away to get ice. And I could hear the person in the room next to mine brush their teeth and release their bowels. I can't believe this place is a wedding venue!! Thank God my daughter wasn't getting married here. When I checked out a day early (planned 2 days. Couldn't get away quick enough) and I noted the issues, the clerk told me there was an outage in a 10 mile radius and no hotel was capable of accommodating me. Not true. Thank goodness!! Our venue was 2 miles away and had plenty of power. Not to mention a best western would have been cleaner, had working ice machines and accommodating service. Please note once again that these issues were the night before the power outage. They had absolutely nothing to do with SDGE. This was a poorly run hotel with no regard or knowledge of what a class act location entails. I would not recommend staying here. If the golf course is worth it to you then stay elsewhere and golf for the day. read more

No amount of remodeling and warm decor can make up for the total incompetence of the staff at this "resort." While my room was large and fairly new feeling (avert your eyes from the hideous grandma duvet) it's ridiculous that Internet is not accessible in the rooms. I'm not taking all fancy like wireless Internet, I'm saying they don't have working Ethernet either. My company put 30 of us up here and NONE of us could get online in the rooms, mac OR pc! They offer tech support but don't waste your precious hours on the phone w/ them, just do all your work from the lobby. Yeah right! Their thermostats in the rooms are counter intuitive. They'll only run if you're in the room. So just try coming back to a freezing cold room after a long day and see how long it takes before you can finally get comfortable. Open your front door and it turns off again. What the Fark!? Finally, our party had breakfast in the morning and the waitress was so inexperienced and feeble it was pathetic. She asked me how I wanted my egg whites cooked. Isn't scrambled the only way?!? She also didn't give me back correct change for my bill. Thank goodness I'm not as absent-minded as her, otherwise I would have unknowingly given her a bigger tip than she deserved. My fiancé and I were needing a break from LA and I was hoping to get a jump on looking at wedding venues so we decided to take a quick trip down to Temecula wine country for 2 days. Pala Mesa resort came up in several of my searches as I tried to find us a hotel for the night and looked decent from photos and the website was professional and easy to navigate. I booked what I thought was a great deal on their Executive Suite, and I was even able to get in touch with the wedding coordinator to set up an appointment with her as well. My goal was to get an idea of the property and amenities 1st hand and meet with the wedding coordinator to see what their wedding packages/venues, etc. were like. What we liked | The grounds are gorgeous and both my fiancé and I loved the ceremony/reception site and the fact that we could party the night away until 1am if we wanted! The food was also great, we had dinner and breakfast at the AquaTerra restaurant and were impressed with the food and friendly/attentive service. What we DIDN'T like | When we arrived the room smelled stale and we needed to open all the windows to get the smell out. We also had trouble getting the TV and fridge working (and later re-working)--it seemed that the fridge kept shorting out the outlet where the two were plugged in. The shower water pressure was poor and the tub/tiles were water-stained. The bed was moderately comfortable but the pillows were worn/not plush at all and the king-sized bed could have used more than 3 (or perhaps two actual king-sized pillows). The WORST thing about our stay was that our room was located directly above the hot tub --which at 7:55AM they decided to sandblast/jackhammer the tub, and both me and my fiance were jolted from sleep (and no option to go back to sleep b/c of the noise). I called the front desk to inquire what was going on and they said there was nothing that could be done but they would offer us vouchers for free breakfast. Not impressive or a fair compensation. There should have been forethought on behalf of the staff to place us in a different room away from any construction. When we met with the wedding coordinator (again, I set up an appointment with her the week prior via email and she confirmed the appointment date/time) she was late, disorganized and unable to clearly explain options and kept saying "oh well, it is supposed to be my day off" as an excuse for her unprofessional/poor knowledge of the services. She was also unable to give us any idea of the 2015 renovation construction plans and/or confirm the timeline of construction (i.e. would facilities/room availability be impacted should we want to hold the wedding there) Though we loved the grounds and ceremony/reception space we are not seriously considering this as an option for our venue/guest accommodations any longer. read more

Where do I even start on this review? We came here for the night. We stayed here before going to see the Welk Resort for the timeshare presentation (which we were not aware of. We were at a bridal expo and they told that us that we could check out the resort as a potential wedding venue). We stayed at Pala, and it was probably one of the grossest places I've stayed. Everything looked like it was from the 1970s! They looked like condos/apartments from the 70s era. They need a face lift forreals! The bed was uncomfortable and the sheets felt dirty. It was also really cold in the room. Luckily, there was a heater! The bathroom toilet and tub were strange. They were really low to the ground, as if they were meant for shorter folks. Now I know how basketball players must feel. The toilet didn't really flush. We had to flush it multiple times in one sitting! The toilet seat was also really close to the ground. The tile was pretty gross. I would get rid of the tiles, the carpet, the bed, etc... They just need a major makeover to make everything more new and modern. I think they have the potential to become a better property. They could have more events like corporate parties, trainings, weddings, etc. They have the space and the rooms to become something like that. There's nothing really around so it would be better for them to make their property more appealing for folks to stay at. I wouldn't return to this property. Thank goodness we didn't have to pay to stay here. The room was so gross. I had no desire to see the rest of the property. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. Terrible customer service from the front desk, Victoria and her dumb bleached blond cohort make sure to let you know that your complaints and concerns don't mean anything to them. The room we were put us in had mold, holes in the walls and the a/c was broken so it was hotter than outside and muggy. Don't know why we had to wait a half hour for them to prepare the room. Probably so we'd spend money at the bar. We went to call and complain to the front desk but the phone was dead. A long cell phone call later we were told that somebody would bring us new room keys. Twenty minutes of waiting outside in the sun while bugs attacked us we had to go into the lobby and yell at those two idiots in person. They didn't send anybody. We were left to either bake on our mold room or stand outside while being eaten alive. We got put into an "upgraded room" while was the exact floor plan. Upgraded apparently means the amenities actual work. There was still holes in the wall mold painted over the toilet won't stop running and the sink also is running none stop. I've stayed in motel 6's that were of better quality for a quarter of the price. Everything about this place is offensive. The smells the sights the service. To call this place a shithole is an insult holes who have the important job of storing fecal matter. Edit: the mini fridge doesn't work either. Where to start. Check-in and drive all the way over to our room, unload the car and then try and open the door for the room and the keys don't work, not a huge deal but an inconvenience given that the rooms aren't even close to the lobby its an annoyance. Get into the room and it smells like baby powder and that disgusting Elizabeth Taylor perfume white diamonds, gross. The mattress was god awful, pretty sure they found it on the side of the road and put it in the room. The pillows felt like cardboard shoved into a pillow case. The showerhead is perfect if you're 4 feet tall. Do yourself a favor and stay at temeku inn or pechanga if you want a nice place to stay and play golf. This place is way overpriced for the quality you get. read more

We arrived Friday night and thought it looked like a very nice resort, as it states. We were booked in a fairway room but that didn't happen, we were put in the back of the entire resort?? ha. It was dingy, smelly, looked like it hadn't been renovated in years. Very bad experience. They called this room the deluxe room but it was far from that. We woke up at 2am to find ANTS IN THE BED...Yes, Ants. We killed about 10 of them and saw many crawling around. Luckily we had another queen bed to sleep in. Didn't sleep all night thinking these crawly things were going to be all over us. We got ready to leave in the morning and found ants in the bathtub, some alive, some dead. We were disgusted. Also, the refridgerator barely worked, the TV only got basic cable and the sink in the bathroom had a big crack in it. We will not stay here again, and when you see the word RESORT, be very cautious. I had a Tee Time on Sunday with my Directer of Sales and a Client. I went in to the bar to get a beer and then rolled a few puts. I arrived at the Tee right on the minute of my tee time. The Starter was a jerk named Larry Shelby. He berated me for being late to the tee box(which I wasn't.) Then Let me know in a very loud voice that he was tired of all the F***ing people taking advantage of him. Then went into another tirade in which he dropped another F-Bomb on me. All this right in front of my Client. Plus the group behind us had a child playing with them who heard the whole thing. Other then that it was a great day! Our first time and our last. Let's start with the drive to the property. It was very dark, no lighted signs and very difficult to find. Not to mention the scary 2 lane road. Check in was a bore and they added no help in the resorts amenities, local attractions or even a smile. Here's your key, here's a map and see ya! The lobby area and Resturant entrance was updated but it was hard to see past the dirty barware as I approached checkin. Once checked in we immediately drove to our room which was also hard to find. The property was very dark and scary. We found our room entered and was immediately turned off. Drapes were stain ridden, curtains were ripped, black mold in the bathroom, horrible cocking job on the tile, old nasty comforter, flat dust mites pillows , stained carpets, and the list goes on. Place was dirty, outdated and looked like a crack motel. We never saw the grounds or other aspects of the property because we left. read more

This place is a wreck. It looks pretty but if you walk into your room, there is plenty of things that are just plain gross and not to mention incompetent employees that work there. They really have no idea how to run a RESORT. And the 2 nights I stayed there were horrible. The heater was blowing out cold air! And when I asked for a spear bed they waited an HOUR then sent someone to our room just to say sorry we are all out. NOT to mention the whole place was booked fora bunch of soccer moms and there kids. It was horrible. They have random hidden fees that you'll have to pay for later, and if you even want a pillow... "sorry, we do not have any spare pillows." I was supposedly in what they call an executive suite which really means a room with a spare sink. It was horrible. The bath tub was grimy and I found a hair in it. The sinks were made for people who are like 4 ft tall. And I found spiders and large webs all over in the corners of the rooms. It smelled like a old persons home. For spending 500 dollars on 2 nights... I would say if you have to stay any where in fallbrook... try the pechanga casino & resort or the comfort inn.... THIS PLACE ROYALLY SUCKS... not to mention everything has been burnt down around it from the fires a year ago. Its not even pretty, and the golf course is horrible. read more

This place has a beautiful location. The view, the greenery, the sky, especially at night it lifts up with all the starts but unfortunately needs some much work. It's very dated. The stairs are not safe, the railings are broken and fixed with nail and wood. Light fixtures from outside the building we're hanging over, the beds were very uncomfortable. The throw pillows were actually seat cushions (yuck). This place has a lot of potential but unfortunately no one has invested any love into this place. My nephew was married here a few weeks ago. The outside was beautiful. The wedding went on without a hitch. That was the only good part about the day. The banquet room was plain and no touch to it at all. The food...!!!!...the food was gross. It looked like it sat under a heat lamp for a good 30 minutes before they served it to us. The potato puree was gummy and dry!!! The steak was so dry and over done that it tasted like liver!!!! The 2 carrots that came with the meal was the only thing cooked perfect....slight crunch and seasoned well. Oh...the salad dressing was not bad...it looked like it was a house made ceasar dressing...good job on whom ever made it...wish he/she cooked the main meals!!! We had one night here at a discounted rate for a time share proposal the following morning. Was less than impressed. I feel if someone is trying to sell something to you they should give you a great representation of what they are selling. Due to recent rainfall last week the patio off our room was flooded and they had done nothing to clear the water. We were in a ground floor unit and the front door had an inch of clearance beneath it so rainwater could get in - probably why it smelled slightly moldy in there. Cobwebs in the bathroom windows made it look like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile. Thankful for clean sheets but still didn't feel comfortable enough to walk around barefoot in the room with the odor and possible critters which could enter the room under the front door. Lastly, the walls were paper thin. Though the place looked deserted when we checked in, they put people directly around us so we could hear their conversation and tv all night long. I am here due to Welk Resorts. Run....The rooms are musty, old curtains, old furniture, old comforter, and we were were afraid to even get in the bed, just not for me and my family. Came here for my friend's wedding. Congratulations Sean and Veronica. Anywho, I wish I had come to this place before fires ran around it, because the scene nowadays is not the pretty. I mean, there's a naked hill behind the property and a bunch of charred trees everywhere. Not to mention, the highway is right out there. Kind of sucky. The facilities themselves were fine, I guess. I don't golf, so I spent much of my time around the pool and in my room. The pool was OK. The hot tub was nice. The staff seemed reasonably professional. All in all, this place was OK. Didn't blow my socks off, but it beats a HoJo off of the 5. I will, however, pick one bone with them: they tried to screw my friend on the wedding package he had selected. Apparently they run through wedding planners here like fire runs through the surrounding canyons, and the guy that had been there a scant three months prior was no longer around when Sean's big day came up. So what did administration do? Tried to void his contract and subject him to entirely new terms. LAME. Eff you for that, Pala Mesa. My advice for anyone planning a wedding here: GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING! read more

My boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to get away for Labor Day weekend. Our hotel choices were slim as we made this decision close to late minute. I researched the few hotels that were available in the Temecula area and found Pala Mesa. After looking on their website, I was stoked to stay here! Then I checked Yelp. Most of the reviews were less than excellent which left us a little apprehensive about coming to stay here. We figured we'd be drinking all day and would just need a spot to sleep, so it wouldn't really matter how bad this place was. Upon arriving to the resort, the grounds were gorgeous and well maintained. Unlike we read in the reviews, the staff were MORE than friendly and helpful. After checking in, we went to Aqua Terra for their sushi happy hour. It was my first time trying sushi (my boyfriend is a long time fan), and we both really enjoyed it. After sushi, we went to our room. Much to our surprise, it was huge! A king sized bed, a big wet bar, and a gorgeous patio with outdoor furniture. Although the pool is small, we still enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub before heading to dinner! I could see how the pool area would get crowded as temperatures get very hot (it was 100 degrees while we were there!), but it didn't concern us. Many people have stated that they have old TVs -- after dinner, we turned on the brand new flat screen to watch a movie before heading to bed. In the morning, we made in-room Wolfgang Puck coffee and drank it on our spacious patio while overlooking greenery and listening to a nearby fountain/man-made waterfall. How relaxing! And an awesome start to the day! After coffee, I headed to the surprisingly big workout room while my boyfriend hit a bucket of balls at the driving range. All of the machines in the workout room worked great, and it was air conditioned with cold water and fresh, clean towels. Next came breakfast ...we had vouchers for the Sunday buffet with our stay. Hands down, it was the best buffet I've had (and I've eaten at some nice breakfast buffets like at resorts in Maui). They had all of my favorite breakfast foods -- corned beef hash, eggs benedict, sausage, bacon, an omelet bar, breakfast potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and more! They also had $5 mimosas & bloody marys ...didn't try the bloodies, but the mimosas were generously poured. The food all tasted great, and the service was excellent. This about sums up our stay at the property. Sure, it's an old resort. Yes, the walls in the room are thin (which most hotels and apartments are!). No, the pool is not enormous. But overall, I would highly recommend this spot to anyone, and I know that the next time we go wine tasting in Temecula, this will be our go-to spot! read more

I'm only going to speak about the Pala Mesa Resort from the perspective of someone who was planning a retreat for a church. My thoughts and opinions might carry over to someone planning a business event or wedding, but all in all it is regarding using hall space on the property, ordering food through banquet services, and booking rooms for attendees. It all starts with Sarah Raymer who is just kind and extremely responsive. Felt like even before I could contact her she was reaching out to me answering questions I didn't know I needed answered. I travel a lot with work and Sarah was very patient with my lack of response while on the road and then wouldn't panic when I would call and email her 5 times in an hour. Finally the contract signing is just easy and I actually trust this group to live by their word unlike other resorts that nickel and dime you with what isn't in the contract to make their money. Next I worked with Beth Hunt and Lorena Duenas. These ladies are epic professionals who never pestered me and always delivered when I emailed them with plan changes. Our group went from 70 people to 130 almost overnight and they got us extra rooms (for the SAME price) AND adjusted the meeting space without charging us a premium. That's great service. During the meeting James was quick to get me everything we needed right away and was always available. The food selection is great considering our group needed to eat vegan for Lent which is extraordinarily difficult to do for 4 diff meals. The garden pavilion is gorgeous and I would get married there in a heartbeat. We held our morning liturgy there and it was a lovely experience. All around we enjoyed working with Pala Mesa. Sure the rooms aren't brand new but they're way better than a retreat center. We'll be back next year for sure. read more

Update: Considering that the GM will only respond to my yelp review and none of my emails, and will only address the power outage, none of our other issues, my rating will stay at 1 star. Multiple parties from out stay have attempted to contact him to no avail, and it seems that each response he has for his yelp reviews is getting worse and worse. The 1 star is only given because their restaurants food is good (and I have to give 1 star according to Yelp). Service was terrible all around. My entire wedding party, including parents and grandparents stayed here for our wedding and we had our rehearsal luncheon here. The lunch was delicious and the lobby was beautiful. When we got to our rooms - we were extremely disappointed. The bathtubs bubble up under your feet, many guests didn't have hot water, flushing toilets, cable, or heaters that worked. Our heater was set at 80 degrees the whole time but with the 1 inch gap under the front door and 40 degree weather outside, the heater was no match. The hotel then lost power, which meant EVERY guest that stayed at this hotel was unable to do things like take hot showers, do their hair, or even turn on their lights. The hotel GM instructed the front desk not to offer any compensation, and never even bothered to apologize. When MULTIPLE parties within our room block attempted to speak with him, he kept his arms crossed and cut them off, blaming the power company for everything. You can't blame the power company for issues that occurred before the power even went out. We probably would have had a better, and cheaper, stay at the best western down the road. While the rooms are spacious, to say they are falling apart and dilapidated is an understatement. I am 100% disappointed in our stay, and my darling Mother-In-Law was completely embarrassed to say that she set up this block. We will never stay here again, and the general manager definitely needs more hospitality training. My wife and I were married here. The site was beautiful, even with the recent fires, but anything that the resort staff touched went to hell. It was the worst hospitality experience I've ever had. A previous reviewer mentioned the frequency with which the property turns over personnel; truer words were never written. The turnover would have been tolerable if the staff was competent. Alas, they were not. On more than one occasion, while meeting with someone from the wedding department in the days leading up to our event, we were asked, "so, have you picked a date for your wedding yet?" Like we were someone just touring the facility, trying to pick a site for our wedding. Except we weren't...we had a signed contract with the facility and our date was drawing near. Feeling uneasy, we had to hire an outside coordinator to act as a liasion between us and the revolving door of a wedding department at Pala Mesa. I could write another three pages about the various incidents of ineptitude that plagued the 12 months between signing our contract with the venue and actually getting hitched, but I don't have time to write it, you probably don't have time to read it, and I am, quite frankly, tired of thinking about it all. But know this: I will never give Pala Mesa any more of my money...which is saying a lot because I go by there quite a bit and I really like the restaurant and the golf course. This place has gone to shit. It's at best a Motel 8 The grounds are nice but rooms are old and nothing special!!!! Front desk lady was rude as hell. Don't book through Trip advisor. Horrible experience. We have stayed at this hotel before and it was not bad. This time however, there was a mistake on our hotel bill ... and the front desk staff refused to correct it, continually saying it was my fault when it was not. The mistake turned out to be only $20 difference in the actual price of the nights stay ... but what is up with refusing to correct it? Here is what happened: Since I was a repeat guest and had stayed there before, they sent me an email with several promotions on it for the month of March. We were headed for Temecula for the weekend and I saw the email in my inbox (without even really reading the whole thing). So I called reservations and told them I had an email from them, and wanted a room for Saturday night. They quoted the rate as $139, I got an email confirmation with the rate as $139, AND FINALLY I asked the from desk if the rate of the room was $139 and they said yes. On Sunday morning I got the bill around 11:30am, and it said the room rate was $159 + tax for the "Bed and Breakfast Special." I called the front desk (from my cellphone, because the phone in the room was not working) and the guy who was working there (who by the way, was there at the front desk when I was checking in) at first acknowledged the price because I had that email. Then he said he needed to check with reservations. He gets back on the phone and says that reservations said I had asked for a "Bed and Breakfast Special" which I had not. I repeated that I had an email with a confirmation of the room rate ... he said that did not matter because it was $139 for the room and $20 for the breakfast, which was no where on the email receipt or when I checked in. Also, by the time all of this was figured out .. to add insult to injury ... they had stopped serving breakfast. Yes, the room is nice and big with a big patio and nice grounds, and we actually had a newer LCD TV (aside what the rest of the other reviews are saying). The bed is a king size bed and really nice. ITS TOO BAD THAT WE HAD THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH THE STAFF EVER, AND WE WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN. NOTHING IS WORTH GETTING RIPPED OFF ON THE BILL. Totally sucks. Golf. Rooms. Price. Won't EVER play or stay here EVER. Stayed here with an Under Par golf promotion. First--the course sucks. Fairways in terrible condition. Greens slick and unfair. And we made tee times three months ahead for TWO THREESOMES. When we arrived they put us out as a foursome and made one couple play with another twosome. Way way uncool. The bar--service friendly but you have to flag them down. Prices UNBELIEVABLY high. Scotch on rocks? $13. La Crema Chardonnay? $13. Really?? Out in the sticks?? The food was good but... When a bill for 6 is over $300 for drinks and bar food. But the best was yet to come. Our room had connecting doors on BOTH sides. Really loud a'hole guys on one side. Loud all night long. When they weren't yelling they were singing the old rugged cross. Way way uncool. Sounded like batchelor party on SUNDAY NIGHT. They were unbelievable. Also--you can hear the 15 from almost every spot on the course, as well as the rooms. This place sucks. Don't stay here. Don't play here. read more

I'm here for a women's retreat with my church. We were not accommodated well at all. We were not treated with respect. It is painful to say but I do believe that race had a big part to play in the treatment of me and my sisters in Christ. We had a contract for 2 rooms being used, and due to rain we were asked if one of our rooms could be used. This wasn't the problem...the problem came when we weren't going to be accommodated for our being inconvenienced AND they wanted us to walk through the rain to access our room...not the guests that wanted to use the room...then we were told that we didn't have both rooms and our contract clearly stated that we had the right to both rooms. Management need diversity and sensitivity training. We are paying for everything just as each other guest that comes here. We should have been respected just as other guests. read more
