One of the things that stood out to me was that it's a non-chemical environment, so there were no harsh smells, and everything was done manually without any drills, which I appreciated. The pedicure itself was great, but the only downside for me was the seating. The chairs weren't very comfortable, and I missed having the massage features and jets that I'm used to in traditional spa pedicure chairs. Pricing was also a bit on the higher side. Since I live in Brookland (northeast DC), I would normally not drive to northern VA for a pedicure. However, my friend who is from Cleveland is a fan of Paint (they are fairly nation-wide) and spoke very highly of it. I do worry about regular nail salons--the level of cleanliness, the toxins in the air, my fear that the women working there may be victims of human trafficking--so I decided to try it out. I was able to book a Sunday afternoon appointment just 24 hours ahead of time. I don't know if this is normal or if it was because it was a holiday weekend. Also, because it was a Sunday, I was able to park on the street for free. It's unclear where one would park if street parking weren't available. I got an Uptown Gal pedicure with an upgraded Dazzle Dry polish--my friend said the Dazzle Dry lasts over a month. Chrystal, my nail technician was very nice and fun to chat with. And she even gave me a pro-tip of washing my kitchen garbage can in my building's dog washing station, which is brilliant! I sipped a grapefruit mimosa. They use pumice files, not those cheese grater-looking things, to remove dead skin from your heels, and I'm very impressed by how smooth my heels are. Chrystal also gives a solid foot massage. The place is extremely clean, bright, and calm. It is pricey, but the fact that I have no concerns about cleanliness or the well-being of the employees makes it worth it. I've been coming here for my pedicures since Covid since the space is nice, spread out, and much more relaxing than a standard nail salon with many people jammed in. They also use less toxic brands, so the place has fewer fumes, and don't have those whirlpool basins that always worry me. Of course, it's more expensive, but I always thought it was worth the price. So why 3 stars? They have a very small selection of polish if you don't want to do gel (which I hate because I like being able to get the polish off myself in a few minutes) or the Dazzle Dry (which they upcharge you for, to the tune of $8). And oftentimes, the small selection has multiple bottles where they have only a teensy bit of polish remaining, and is clumpy or thick, and they have to add in chemicals to dilute the polish (which chips the polish, which is annoying when you're paying $60 with tip for a pedicue). It's just weird that they choose to skimp out on this aspect even though a bottle of nail polish of the brand they use is $3.25 according to Google. Like if they got maybe 10 more bottles and replaced them more frequently, how much more could it possibly cost overall (well you can do the math)? read more

A basic gel manicure here is $44, which is more expensive than other nail salons but they take care of you really well here and won't do anything that will damage your nails (other local places I've gone to will try to remove gel polish as fast as they can using such as using an electric nail drill). I came here three Saturdays ago and my nail tech was Ashley, who did a really great job. We had a great conversation while she did my nails and she was able to give me good suggestions while I was trying to pick the colors for my nails. She was very precise and quick with painting them. Additionally, she was super careful and considerate while removing my gel polish and made sure I wasn't in pain. I liked that they had a few different brands of nail polish and there were so many colors to choose from. I was also offered a drink here, and I would highly recommend trying their teas. Sadly, I was not able to drink a lot of it since my hands were occupied. My manicure experience here was fantastic. 2+ weeks later, my nails still look great for the most part (minus a couple small chips and essentially no cracks). I highly recommend this nail salon for better quality gel manicures and overall better treatment for your nails - definitely worth the extra $5 compared to other local salons. read more

LOVED THIS PLACE! Came here to get a gel manicure last Tuesday--you can make reservations online on their website, pick which service you want and which nail tech you prefer--I picked Van! The services and prices are well-detailed and straight forward, so you know what exactly to expect. Upon arriving to the salon, I notice immediately how chic it is--inside is well lit, beautiful decor, super clean, and has a great ambiance. You are asked to sanitizer your hands and to sanitize wipe your phone, then proceed towards the back to wash your hands with soap and water. They also sell some cute jewelry/clothing accessories as well! They offer a complimentary beverage while you get your nails done--a choice of beer, wine or a White Claw (seltzer)--an added bonus to this experience. Unfortunately this salon has missed the mark for me. I went in Saturday for a gel manicure. The receptionist was incredibly nice. My nail tech was pretty quiet and not very personable, but I felt did a pretty good job. My issue is with after the salon. On Monday - 2 days after - I saw I had 2 small chips on my nails. One tiny and the other small. I emailed the salon and they were very accommodating and had me come back in to fix my nails Tuesday evening. A new nail tech fixed the larger issue but left the smaller chip, saying it would be fine. Only 2 hours later the other one had chipped significantly. I don't have time to run back to the salon a 3rd time before I leave for a vacation so I won't be able to request a 2nd appointment for repair. The salon itself is lovely, and other all a nice place for service. I'm just disappointed that my gel manicure chipped after 2 days and the technician didn't recognize the chip would worsen as the expert. Now that I'm moving out of the DMV I can finally stop gatekeeping this place. First off, I adore this shop. Every technician is kind, neat, and talented. After having a bad experience with Gel-X nails at another place, I came to Paint to try gel extensions one more time. My technician was Ray, who gave me an IBX treatment and then did great, long lasting nails. Since then, I've also gotten my nails done by Jalyn, who also does super neat, gorgeous work. Overall, I had GREAT experience at Paint Nail Bar. Upon entering (about 5 minutes early for my appointment) I was promptly greeting by the front desk receptionist and given a thorough explanation of their toxin-free selections and my choice of beverage (I went with coffee). My appointment with Lisa started on time, and she was a very sweet and thorough technician, always making sure I was comfortable. I was very impressed with the AHA-peel for my feet, which left them feeling like a baby. As others have said, the environment feels spa-like and calm, which allows you to relax as you receive your service. My only push for Paint is that for $86.40, which is how much my Talk of the Town pedicure cost after the Dazzle Dry add-on and a 20% tip, I felt like they could have done some things to truly make it feel "luxe" (which is how they describe this pedicure on their website). Some suggestions? Maybe a neck-warmer, an extension of the leg massage as we waited for the paraffin wax on my feet to dry, or an added hot stone massage (can you tell I really liked the massage and wish it had lasted longer?) Again, in summary, I had an excellent experience and my feet feel buttery smooth, I just think some small additions can make it feel more worth those $90. Well, your research can end here. PAINT has been one of the best nail salons I've found and I couldn't be more influenced to make it a regular thing since I first visited here. First, PAINT is a beautiful location with floor to ceiling windows that just illuminates the entire space with beautiful natural light. The vaulted ceilings make the space feel even more open and airy. The salon has a small collection of jewelry, lotions, etc. for sale that make it a little bit of a Fancessca's exploration vibe while you wait. I've now been here three times for different services and every time was a great experience. During any service, you have your choice of complimentary beverage whether it be water (still or sparkling), mimosas, or just the champagne. So if you need a reason to celebrate, here it is. Get your pedicure with champagne! Additionally, on days it's a little chillier, I was offered a really plush and clean blanket at my seat during my pedicure! There's great attention to detail here from the responsible, clean products they use to the odorless environment, to the no whirlpool pedicure basins designed to prevent harboring of bacteria. PAINT really feels like a city girl day spa treat. You leave feeling refreshed and bright. Additionally you can leave with their lotions that are for sale and are some of the best I've used for my hands and feet! The creams are lush and silky and have wonderful scents to them. During every service I've had, the staff have been so knowledgeable and so friendly. I've left feeling more educated on how to take care of my nails and skin at home for best maintenance! If it's your first time here too, make sure to ask about the types of nail polishes you have to choose from for your service (although I'm sure they'll proactively offer to tell you anyway!) they're great quality and good detail to learn. A nice detail is PAINT will keep your nail polish colors on file, so if you come back and want a color you had before, they can look up the exact color for you! My services never feel rushed, but typically start right on time, despite the salon being heavily booked! Pro Tip: they do take walk-ins but appointments last minute are rarely available. Definitely book a few weeks in advance if you're looking for a very particular day and time, especially outside of 8-5 corporate america business hours! Evenings and weekends get booked up. I've had a few different services and the Uptown Girl is my favorite. It's the perfect middle ground that isn't too basic, but also gets you all the fun relations and treatment you need without the need to upgrade more. After these services my polish stayed on non-chipped for over 2 weeks with non-gel and over 4 weeks with gel! If you're driving here, street parking can be found in the surrounding streets that are metered. Convenient availability will depend on the time you're there though. Definitely consider paint for a special occasion like a birthday, friend-versary, Mother's Day, or when you just crushed an awesome goal at work. It's worth it! read more

This was my first time back in a salon since early March. I made an appointment online, their booking platform was super smooth and easy to navigate. Their COVID procedures are top notch. Masks, hand sanitizer, the even make you sanitize your phone unpin entry. They were only at 20% capacity at any given time and was never within 6 feet of another customer. They used plexiglass screens for nail services and they were sanitizing at most points. My nail tech, My, was so lovely and talented. Gave me exactly what I asked for! The owners are attentive and sweet and loved taking feedback about how they could be better. I got the GelX on my nails. There are some nice polish brands, but I'm not sure they were applied as they should have been. When I asked about other non-toxic brands, they had no idea what I was talking about. The process was very quick and not thorough, didn't seem that my nails were "clean" enough. Differences in nail length and shapes is quite noticeable, and the tech filed the edges at the end, when I asked why she said it helps create a rough edge so it doesn't peel, I'm just used to having sealed edges so that seemed odd. Did not feel "natural" but it had an okay vibe. The tech complained about the music and a few other things that were annoying her and when I asked about the passport program, she said not to ask her because she had no idea. It is fine in a pinch and nicer than standard salons, but will see how long this lasts. I don't think the bonder was applied right and the cuticle trimming was just OK, not thorough. The person at reception was very nice. I'll probably go back to my standard salon, even though it's much further away. I'm a regular two week mani-pedi person, but I wouldn't pay for higher service when this felt kind of regular without single use plastics. I'd rather drive further and pay more but would go here if I can't get into my usual spot just for the higher quality polish. Update; wanted to note that while the owner did say they got back to me in their response below, they actually didn't get back to me until that evening more than 12 hours later and only after I posted my initial review above. Just feel that being transparent, even in your response to negative feedback, is important.
