Dark, quaint, and old school bar ambiance; combined with strong drinks, good food and personalized service. For appetizers, we ordered the crudo and crispy potatoes. The sauce in which the crudo bathes was silky smooth and succulant. The crispy potatoes were standard, however, the chutney sauce served with it was exceptionally falvorful and complimentary. The spicy noodz wasn't spicy but it was comforting and absolutely delicious! Add the shrimp (which is $8 more) for a complete meal. The seared scallops were perfectly prepared and seasoned; it melt in my mouth like butter. All the servers and manager were personable, professional and welcoming. Generally a nice experience here. Bartender was great as was the service, and price points are on point. Miso Garlic lettuces wasn't very good. The salmon yaki was I think is a take on lox and bagels, had a good flavor and was interesting. Burger was very tasty and also had the joutine, which I again think was a spin on pot roast. Tasty, complex and filling, though the presentation was muddled. The lighting is really bad in here and the lack of sufficient lighting really does deprive one an important sense when it comes to eating and that is seeing the food. Seemed like a good crowd. All the best dining options in Studio City aren't necessarily on Ventura Blvd because there are a handful of hidden gems within the neighborhood. OyBar is a born again oyster house now serving elevated bar food along with refreshing cocktails. They're located on Whitsett/Moorpark adjacent from the Studio City Branch Library. There's a parking lot behind the restaurant or you can park along Moorepark. This place is the definition of hole in the wall because if you miss the sign outside that says "bar", you wouldn't even think to stop in. OyBar does not take reservations and is walk-in only. You can sit at the bar but a table will be about a 30-45 minute wait depending on the day you go since it is a small space. The times my wife and I have gone for date night, we just order a cocktail as we wait for a table to open up (fyi: no espresso martinis, but el diablo is a must). The food is prepared by Jeff's Table and the menu is always different. Besides the Oy Burger, I recommend the smoked salmon yaki-onigiri because of the crème fraiche freshness. Just moved to studio city and had to check out oy bar. It did not disappoint! Its walk in only, and when we arrived there was about a 45 min wait for our party of 4. They were very accommodating tho getting our drink orders while we waited outside under heat lamps! I stuck with beer, but it the cocktails look incredible. After about 40 mins they were able to sit us at the bar. But the vibes inside are immaculate. It's like a classy dive bar where the food SHINES. Everything we ate was incredible. The burger hits and that quesadilla I will certainly be back to have again. Our bartender was super cool and knowledgeable, he even let us all try this interesting digestive they have on tap! The only thing that was weird was the food runner/server who delivered our food was a clearly thrown and upset when our bartender accidentally put in a wrong order. Not that we cared! We were happy to wait for our final dish but that server really showed her cards with how angry she was with this confusion. Definitely wasn't a big deal to us but made us feel weird... Very good food in a dive bar. The smallish menu featured beef and pork dishes, with small plates and salads. Despite featuring veggies in some dishes, most contain meat and/or cheese, so there is little for a vegetarian or anyone avoiding saturated fat to order. The restrooms also desperately need updating--the restroom is never part of a dive bar's charm, and with the tribe and trash, theirs seems way too authentic. In our quest to find the best burgers in LA, we visited OyBar to try the OyBurger. Unfortunately, it was just OK, nothing special. It's too thin to be a pub burger, and it's not a smash burger--more like a cook-to-order Quarter Pounder with better condiments and a better bun. OyBar's fries are potato chunks that are served with two different sauces. Like the burger, the fries are OK, not great. This place blew me away. I had no idea it existed until my daughter invited me here. What a Gem. They don't take reservations and it's pretty small with a long bar that has lots of bar seating. I recommend arriving early or you'll wait in line. The menu is unique, but filled with great options for vegans and meat eaters. Each dish was full flavors and uniquely made. I absolutely love OY BAR!!!! Okay what an amazing place!! This spot rocks!! I also love that I got to come here in Chanukah. This spot is a Jewish / pub vibe / speak easy / dive bar?? It's so cool because it's so hard to truly describe exactly what it is. They have a full bar with signature cocktails & also plenty of amazing Japanese and Jewish fusion inspired meals. The cutest speak easy / perfect low lighting vibes with kind staff members and servers that have all the recommendations ready to go! I am obsessed with the smoked salmon bites and the the pickle tray. Everything on this menu is the best thing ever. I tried almost everything and I can't wait to come back and try it again. What a fun night out! Came here on a Tuesday night right after they opened and there was a short line outside. I wasn't sure why because there were plenty of tables inside...but the bouncer (or host?) walks each group individually to their seating area. I've heard it can get bananas on weekends, but it was super chill on this Tuesday night. I've honestly avoided it for the very reason that I've heard it was super hard to get a table/long wait etc. But I'm so happy I finally got to check it out! We sat at the bar and the bartenders were SUPER friendly and nice. It's very dark and super loud inside, but it has a speakeasy type vibe. Drinks were deeeeelish. I tried the carroll gardens (with old granddad instead of rittenhouse rye) and the stay classy based off of the bartender's rec. The stay classy is a drink you could sip on all day next to a pool. So refreshing. Food was next level! We had the crispy potatoes and the new g/og burger. I would eat a bowl of that chive crème fraiche. Also came with a pickle, which earns bonus points in my book. The menu has lots of great items that are totally unique. Not sure what a pickle bento box is, but I want it (obviously I like pickles). I am looking forward to coming back and trying more of the food for sure! Great spot for a night out with friends or an intimate date. *I see that some reviews are low for service and long wait times. This was not the case for my experience hence the 5 stars. I think we just got lucky TLDR: 5/5. Cool vibes, and great food that I was willing to drop the dime for. Food: 5/5 - Miso garlic lettuce: 5/5 People sleep on the power of miso I swear and this is one of those 'prove them wrong' dishes. It was so light and balanced between salty and savory. The leafy choices were so good with this too. They made me feel fancy eating that salad. - Spicy Noods: 4/5 These weren't spicy but they did have a wonderful flavor. The sauce was quite rich but not heavy. It'd be good to pair with one of the salads. - Smoked Salmon Onigiri: 3.5/5 Let's be real it's not onigiri. It's lox on top of a rice ball. Which is fine but it doesn't really hit like onigiri does. - Crispy Potatoes: 5/5 They really said crispy potatoes and wow were they. They were so crispy but flavorful and still soft on the inside. I don't know how they did it. - Wild Mushroom Salad: 4/5 You really have to like mushroom to like this. This honestly like honestly tastes like a seaweed salad. I don't understand either believe me. BUT it is good! Service: 5/5 Me and my party did not have any issues with service. In fact it was a very nice experience. We (4) were seated immediately on a thurs night at 7. I think we just got lucky. Throughout the night, several ppl answered our annoying questions. So yeah no complaints. After a long stressful week at work we went to OyBar on a Friday night. Waited 45 minutes for a table. The food was amazing. But towards the end of the meal our waiter kept wanting to take away and box the food that we were STILL eating. Then he told us that if we didn't order dessert we would have to leave the table because other groups were waiting for our table. So we ordered dessert and more drinks. We were with friends and having a great time, but we were still rushed out of our table only to find that nobody was waiting for a table when we left. It's so nice to see more bars and dining spots to try that are creeping further north from Ventura Blvd! We found out about OyBar through a Nudge suggestion and decided to check it out for after dinner drinks. Got there around 9:15 PM after finding nearby street parking. We thought we'd just walk up to the bar and order a drink, but were asked to wait; the host/doorman was actively playing Tetris to fit in all the patrons present and he really wanted to give us seats to sit at at the bar, which was appreciated. We waited for ~20 min, and during our wait, one of the servers (maybe manager?) asked if we wanted to put in a drink order while waiting. By the time we got our drinks, we were still standing in the entrance alcove waiting for a spot to open up. We really wanted to be inside the bar to actually enjoy our drinks, so we asked if we could just stand at the bar. The doorman/host obliged, saying he just really wanted to get us seats so we didn't have to stand. Again, much appreciated! We found a bit of counter and ended up hanging for ~15 mins until a couple seats opened up. Once we were posted up, the cool ambience of the place took over. The inside of the was chill and not crowded. Felt like a hip crowd. The low ceilings made it feel intimate. The menu had a lot of Asian inspired flavors which I'm looking forward to trying next time we come through. Classic cocktails on the menu. Huge selection of liquor was behind the bar. Cool spot! We got there 5 mins before it opened on Saturday evening and there was already a long line forming. We were happy to get a seat at the bar. Definitely come early to avoid waiting for a table. Small parking lot in the back or street. When you walk in it's super dark - vibe is casual bar feel. We ordered the Oy Burger which is what they're known for. Comes with a medium cookie patty. We really enjoyed this. Super flavorful, nice bun, pickled onions and horseradish sauce were a nice touch. We also got the crispy potatoes to share as our fries. These were delicious, so crispy and the yuzu aoli was amazing. The old fashioned was good too. Knocking it down one star because we waited a weirdly long amount of time for the dessert to come out, and once it came it wasn't that good. It was Cannoli with black tea taro cream. Im a little late in my review, but I want to be sure to give this place 5 stars. My husband and I really enjoyed our first time at this neighborhood spot. We heard so much about their signature Oy burger we had to try it, it was pretty great. We also ordered the spicy noodz with shrimp and the smoked salmon onigiri. We topped it all off with dessert, which was a tiramisu. I'm not an alcohol drinker, but I did try their ginger beer, which was a bit spicy because of the ginger but good. The staff is amazing! We sat at the bar, and the bar crew are a fine running engine. Everyone is helping each other to get the job done. David and Alex were on top of their game and were very friendly and accommodating.
