The Ruby

Oxmantown do the best brownies in Dublin. They are amazing. They are full of nuts and are incredibly gooey and soft on the inside. So chocolatey. So very chocolatey. What makes them even better is the fact that they are only 75 cents. That is right; the best brownie in Dublin is only 75 cents. There are many places selling inferior brownies for more than 3 times that much. Oxmantown's brownies blow them out of the water in every possible way. The café is situated on Abbey street, just off Capel street. It is a nice little place; brightly lit and quiet with a great window to sit in and watch the trams go by. They do lovely homemade soups and some really good sandwiches. I got the Ruby (Reuben ; delicious pastrami on rye with saurkraut, pickles, horseradish and swiss cheese. Thoroughly delicious; the best Reuben I've had outside of New York. They have great coffee too (I think its Cloud Picker). My one issue with this place is its absurd opening hours; they open nice and early at 7.30am but they close very early too 4.00pm. When I have the chance to pop in at lunch time and pick up some brownies I do, but I am usually on my way home just after 4.00 so it is rare that I get to do that. I know it is a minor issue but I would love to make Oxmantown brownies a part of my walk home every day :P

Pulled Pork Sandwich (€5.50)

Oxmantown is such a gem! I came in here for lunch with a friend and upon entering, we were immediately greeted by the friendly guys behind the counter. They've got a nice number of sandwiches to select from on the wall, as well as an assortment of baked goods on the counter. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich (€5.50) and a Mint Lemonade, and by-golly, they were delicious. I thought the sandwich was a little dry because of the bap bread, but the flavors were definitely there. If you get anything out of the review, please take note that the Mint Lemonade is a god send. It is so refreshing, and I would highly recommend it--on a sunny day, people watching, sippin' on some lemonade... that's the good life. Oxmantown, I'm coming back for ye!

Seriously good sandwiches and salads for lunch. There's not much room to eat in (standing space only), so it's strictly a take-away joint, but it's cute and friendly and the service is fast. The ham and cheese was particularly memorable and another great example of how simple ingredients done well can be mind-blowing. Oxmantown's version of this classic sandwich is made with real ham (chunks of moist tender meat, not the rubbery pre-sliced stuff from the supermarkets), gruyere, bechamel sauce, tomato and toasted to perfection on sourdough. SO good. The Lebanese salad was also fantastic. It was so fresh and bursting with interesting textures and flavours - hummous, pumpkin seeds, pomegranate seeds, cucumber, mint, olives, fresh chunks of nectarines... the flavours kept giving and giving. It's all served with a pita wrap, so is definitely a meal in itself but if you wanted to share, it's a nice counter-balance to the richness of any of the meaty sandwiches. Oh, and in the mornings, you can grab a cinnamon bun and a coffee for €3.50! Bargain!

Ham & Cheese. Enjoyed every bite! Yum!

Wow wow wow. I love sambos and man oh man do they make good sambos here! I've had this bookmarked for a while and as I'm rarely in this part of town I made a point of making a bee line to it yesterday when I was nearby! I actually really wanted to try their flatbread but they were all out. Not gonna lie, I was momentarily gutted. So I opted for their ham and cheese sandwich instead. DIVINE. This was without a doubt the nicest sandwich I've had in long long time. The ham was off the bone, there was Gruyere cheese, rocket, tomato and pickles! The bread itself was nice and chewy and fresh. I can honestly say that I enjoyed every single bite. It might be a few months until I'm in this part of town again but at least I know where to get some delicious grub to go!

The pulled pork is a must if you've never been before, but the corned beef should now be overlooked either.

Since I don't eat red meat, I was very excited to see a vegetarian Irish breakfast option. I ordered this as well as a mocha latte. Despite the rain, my friend and I sat outside since all of the indoor seating was occupied. Thankfully some heaters provided warmth for what could've been a chilly breakfast. Very quickly the lattes came out which my friend and I sipped on. They were soooo cute, mine had the design of a little bear on top! The latte itself was hot and not too sweet, the perfect start to the experience. After a few short minutes, the food came out! Immediately, my friend and I dug in. It was honestly everything I expected and even more! There were no weak links on the plate and there were generous portions as well. I sat there for a while working my way through my delicious plate!! Overall, I was very happy with my experience at Beanhive. It was an aesthetic cafe that also provided a hearty breakfast. I would definitely recommend.

Holy. Shit. I rarely…read morecurse but finding this gluten free goldmine of glorious pancakes was like a blessing of the saints. The portion sizes kind of seem small but that could be because my girlfriend and I split everything and it was basically a couple of bites from each other's dishes. We got the blueberry lemon pancakes, and a meat dish for the needed protein, so one savory and one sweet, the way breakfast is meant to be worshipped and devoured simultaneously. Beautiful, small place that gets packed very quickly. Interestingly enough I thought it was a French bistro, but I believe the owners hail from Ukraine as that is the country flag that was hung outside the shape if my world history learnings are correct. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and would come back in a New York minute if I get the chance to visit Dublin again. As always people SYOY!!!

I do wish the bacon side had 2 slices but it only comes with 1. My husband had French crepes with blueberry supreme topping and an order of the potato fritters, which is its own meal. I had hot tea and he had a cappuccino. Be reminded that this is a European sized cup not a giant American size. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals so much so that I left no scraps on my plate. My husband didn't finish his fritters that have avocado on them bc he's not a fan of avocado. He forgot to ask that they be removed. His fault. Very nice young staff. I wish that we had discovered this restaurant sooner bc we would have eaten breakfast there again but we discovered it on our second to last day.

If you're dining in, you order at the counter and get a table number to place wherever you decide to sit. There's plenty of seating inside which is a plus. What I got: -Potato danish- savory; slight salty, crispy flakey layers. -Sausage roll- slightly salty for my preference, but has a very crispy crust and a meaty sausage in the middle. We went back a second time on our trip and got a few more pastries, all of which were very delicious. The pastries were hot, flakey, glistening, delicate, and perfectly sweet on both visits. I didn't wait more than 5/10 minutes. I grabbed a couple of different things for us to try -- the focaccia, morning bun, salted caramel roll, and the cinnamon roll. My favorite was easily the focaccia, which could compete with the best I had in Italy -- so good. The morning bun was good, but nothing crazy exciting. The salted caramel roll had to be the least caramel-y caramel roll I've ever had, but it didn't taste bad and the salted part was interesting (in a good way!). The Cinnamon roll was unique, which I appreciate. It had a big glob of cream cheese frosting (too much for me, but I imagine it would float a lot of folks' boats) and some orange flavoring! I quite liked the orange. I wanted to get a matcha to go, but they said they didn't have disposable cups. You could buy a 5 euro reusable one and then if you brought it back you'd get a refund... interesting, but I was leaving that day and wouldn't be back in the area. I can't speak to the ambiance because we were in and out, but it looked like they had a decent amount of space. All in all, I would recommend this place! For me it was a 4, but I'm sure for some it would bop up to a 5.

Sunken below street level it feels more off the main path and you have to keep your eyes out to find it easily. Walking in the place has a real chill and cozy vibe up front. I was seated right way and ordered off their all day menu. I got their Double Baked eggs, brown soda bread, bacon, sausage and roast tomato. For my tastes the double baked eggs were overdone, but that's double baked for you. Everything else was so delicious though that I truly didn't even notice. It was a wonderful pile of meat overflowing out of a little skillet with a stack of soda bread and butter. Truly it was a delight. I also ordered up their irish coffee. This was especially fun because it's not a simple shot of whiskey, coffee and cream. They create a brown sugar syrup blended with the whiskey to cook off the alcohol but retain the flavor. This means you can day drink and not even bat an eye at it being strange. The flavor was delicious and I'll be trying to recreate this at home for sure.
