Thank goodness for Grove Road Cafe being conveniently nearby the hotel I stayed in. Not that the hotel breakfast was any bad, it's just been very repetitive having the same items/options every morning. Lo' and behold, a cozy cafe that serves up some very delicious brunch (and coffee/tea)! I came here on two morning occasions to relax at the bar seating overlooking the barge while sipping on an espresso on day 1 and a matcha latte on day 2. Both delicious. To balance out the unbalanced amount of adult beverages from the previous nights, on top of the caffeine kick I ordered the fresh green juice as well. It's a good way to make me think I'm detoxing my body thoroughly. But at least it tastes delicious regardless if its a placebo effect. As for the main dishes, the Scrambled Eggs, Chorizo and Feta with side sausages were so good. Fluffy scrambled eggs and savory chorizo...can't go wrong. Also, the house-made sausages were so tasty too. On the other morning occasion I opted for the Grove Road Benedict and wow so so good! Perfectly poached eggs with the creamy hollandaise sauce and super tender braised beef...sheesh. Delicious. Service was very prompt and the staff were all so warm and friendly. A little disappointed by Grove Road. The location by the canal was prime (big windows around the perimeter of the cafe looked out to a beautiful view of Dublin), but the coffee and pastries left a lot to be desired. I got a very standard cappuccino and banana nut bread--the cappuccino wasn't nearly as good as places a bit further south in Rathmines, and the bread was very dry (this was before 10am, so it's not like it'd been sitting out unless it was more than 1 day old). The service felt like they were rushing me out. I probably won't return. read more

It's a delightful modern cafe situated near a beautiful river. Very scenic. The place inside is tiny, and some chairs are actually just stools that are uncomfortable to sit in after a long time. Some chairs have back support. The full Irish breakfast is excellent. Loved the tomato jam that they provided - it tasted fabulous with the toast. The Eggs and meats were all cooked well. It's been a year and a half, but we're back in Dublin and back at Grove Rd. I love this place. Very professional and friendly service, wonderful coffee, excellent food. I can't say a lot about this place, I got in because I wanted to drink something hot, dreaming secretly of a matcha milk tea, what they actually didn't had, but it's not really common so, I decided to take a flat white, with soy milk since it's written that they have some. I first asked the barman what was the difference between a flat white and a latte, because I had no idea of the difference, I was a bit shy about asking this because they was another person waiting to order, but he answered really nicely and I didn't felt like bothering him at all which was really pleasant ! So I ordered a flat white with soy milk, unfortunately they were out of soy milk, aww... I then had to change my plans and opted for a tea, it's very nice because they have tiny containers where you can smell the tea and make your choice. So I took an Irish breakfast tea, which was really good. The place is really nice and cosy, definitely a place where I could spend an afternoon working on my computer. The barman was really cheerful, I think it's really rare to see someone THAT nice in a bar / coffee shop / restaurant, and it's always really enjoyable ! This spot has been under the guise of various names and types of cuisine, more recently The Grove Cafe, serving light meals. At lunch there's a small menu of lovely sandwiches, salads and soup. I had the Feta and Avocado Smash, served on sour dough bread with a bit of salad for garnish. It was very tasty and satisfying. My friend had the roast chicken and stuffing, which looked tempting. Afterwards, we had a bit of cake-me the salted chocolate brownie and she a little cake. All very nice, though I found the coffee/espresso to be very bitter, making it the worst part of my visit. After all that, though, it's worth visiting again. Great atmosphere, very warm and welcoming staff. I hope this place endures. read more

A stone's throw from my hotel, and a total gem. Super intimate - read: cozy! - cafe right by the little river on Charlemont. Best avocado toast I've ever had -- ever. Two perfectly poached eggs served with two generous mounds of avocado and feta mash, all on top of a two pieces of toasted sourdough. I heard so many positive reviews about this place but in all honesty, I am not impressed. I haven't had a bad experience here, I just don't see the big deal? We came here for brunch because we wanted something close to the canal. I was not impressed by the variety of options available. It's not a brunch place, but a basic cafe. What a lovely little coffee stop! I went in here just after they opened - about 7:45am on a Monday, expecting the place to be incredibly busy - it was very quiet and quite nice early in the morning! I was a bit surprised by their menu, since it doesn't show off that they do food as well as the usual coffee selections (I got a mocha by the way: light on the chocolate but very solid coffee). Was very happy with the service. Nice and polite woman who served me. I'm planning to go back for breakfast sometime soon - but I can definitely vouch for the coffee, excellent choice on the go! My goal was to go to a different place for breakfast every day during my trip to Dublin and after some online research, I found Grove Road. It is located on a corner of two major streets so foot- and car-traffic is inevitable. The cafe itself is fairly small on the inside and it was super hot (humid) inside on that day (no AC which I assume is normal in Dublin considering the average weather conditions there). I ordered an avocado toast with poached eggs (avocado bomb) and a latte. The avocado toast was good and super filling but the hot latte was served in a glass without a protective sleeve so I had to wait for it to cool before drinking (glass was hot). I didn't inquire but it appeared that they had free wifi since there were people working on laptops. The restroom was out of order but they let people use staff restrooms (you just had to ask them every time you needed to go). The staff was pleasant, nice and my overall experience was good. I would recommend going here only if the weather isn't too hot, otherwise the temperature becomes uncomfortable. read more

I'd spotted this a few times during commute into town and it always seemed to be a nice little spot on the canal! In a corner location, it's small but bright, with big windows and views of the canal and the people, bikes, and cars at the intersection. We'd come from the Portobello market and were looking for lunch. I ordered the avocado on toast with poached eggs and it was perfectly delightful! The avocado was very tangy- lemon and other spices, I'd guess- and the eggs were not too runny, but not hard. I devoured it. We ordered a hot chocolate after which I remember being a bit pricy. Grove Road is my favorite cafe in Dublin. The coffee, food and people are exceptional! My favorite order is a long black coffee and their fresh granola with yogurt and berry compote. Tastes homemade, fresh and delicious! The scones are amazing too! This is the perfect spot for a quick takeaway, or a lengthily weekend brunch with friends. Slipped in here early of a Saturday and was really impressed. Great little cafe! Love the way it's decorated really cool a lot of shades of gray with touches of white and painted wood . The furniture is mismatched with made to look old riveted together stools and modern red plastic chairs as well. Cool feature if the place it's the hang down glow lighting inside some old rope which looks very designer The coffee, which is all I ordered comes from roasted brown and served in a really nice red cup and is delicious , place was very busy when I was there so there was alota noise but not overpoweringly loud. This neighborhood stop is so convenient! They have light, but hearty breakfast/brunch items, healthy snacks, sweets, juices, and great coffee! I love coming here on Saturdays as my first stop of the weekend. Their homemade oat/healthy cookies are delicious- and I'm not a health food zealot at all! For brunch, I had the avocado on toast with perfectly poached eggs! I also had their fresh pressed juice, which was nice! The staff here are really chipper early in the morning and super friendly. I caught myself I a conversation about burrito places about town once with the cashier-they're so friendly. This place was amazing before. I brought a group here recently and was left very disappointed. The coffee had changed and was undrinkable, the waitress noticed we weren't drinking them and asked if we wanted something else. So we got orange juice. Very disappointed that we were charged for the coffee we couldn't drink and the oj. The food was good, not as good as it used to be. I hope they get decent coffee and return to their old standards as I love the quirkiness of this little cozy cafe. Yet another place that has been on my "must go" bucket list. Finally went on a lazy Sunday for brunch. The place itself is quite small and cosy, just perfect for the Sunday brunch basically. If it's a nice day there are a few tables outside overlooking the canal which is quite lovely, although it is at quite a busy intersection, worth keeping in mind. The brunch menu was not huge, but everything on the menu sounded pretty amazing and there was a good assortment of lighter and heavier options, with a mix of savoury and sweet in the mix. I ordered the poached eggs on a sourdough toast with tomato pesto, which also came with a small serving of green salad, it was pretty delicious, can't really fault it. I also ordered a flat white, the quality of coffee was very good which is important to me and still not that common in Dublin so that begs a mention. I also splurged and ordered a fresh squeezed juice - I had the apple, carrot and ginger juice which was also pretty amazing. To top it all off, the staff was also quite lovely and the service was very fast, so for two hungry people walking in off the street we were very happy with the overall experience. We sat on the stools at the back facing rathmines road as the place was quite busy, it's nice if you're into people watching (as I said, busy thoroughfare and all that), that said, I'm not actually sure if they take table bookings but if you want to go on the weekend, might not be a bad idea to check that out and reserve a spot if possible. read more

Don't walk past this place without trying it. There is something for everyone here. I dropped in to Grove Road with a friend of mine to catch up over a coffee... but I could easily have whiled away an hour or two here on my own. What you get is a café with a well though-out interior (nice hardwood floors, bright, good colour theme throughout), nice staff, really good coffee (Roasted Brown beans - two thumbs up), fantastic alt/indie music playlist in the background, nice selction of food, and a generally good vibe about the place. Grove Road has got it right. I would pick this café if I was looking to spend an hour or two by myself studying / reading / catching up on emails over a coffee or three. I would recommend this - pop in on your own or with a friend. read more
