Butternut squash soup and ham and cheese
Joseph S.

Food was amazing and service was kind and nice. Definitely a must breakfast spot! They serve all day breakfast!

2 pancakes and 1 scrambled egg

Food was really good here. Reminds me of a diner type of food. Breakfast served almost all day. Service was quick. Cute and clean inside.

Average croque in downtown Dublin, sandwich was okay but a nice outdoor seating bare to relax after a morning of walking around

The mighty metro breakfast

Cute little cafe in the Dublin area located close to a lot of tourist sights. It has a very classic, old school vibe. Service was quick and friendly. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Me and two friends dined here for breakfast. Their mighty metro breakfast was very good, and included a pot of Irish breakfast tea or coffee. The pork and black pepper sausages were very tasty, and overly greasy. I loved that they utilize free range eggs--this is not something we get as a given in the US. The eggs were light and fluffy, and you were able to order them scrambled or fried. One of my friends ordered the smoked salmon bagel, which also included tea or coffee. The smoked salmon was delicious, and they were very generous with the portion of fish. Both breakfast items that we tried were well cooked, and very savory. The portions were a nice size, and the breakfast was very filling. If I find myself in Dublin again I will certainly come back for a traditional Irish breakfast!

We were staying at a nearby hotel during our honeymoon and the hostess there recommended Metro for breakfast. Glad we went (twice!). I got the Metro Special and my husband got the Mighty Metro. Both were amazing, as was the fresh squeezed OJ. We wish we could eat there every week! Will definitely be going back if we travel back to Dublin.

Great for locals. Small and quaint. Limited menu. New server had difficulty getting eggs done hard correct. Food was adequate.

Wine on the sidewalk :)

Where do you want to be on a fine sunny day in Dublin? Right smack where it's buzzing and bright! The Metro Cafe is located on a corner where the sunshine - when it shines - eats up all the sidewalk diners. I love it! Order the platter of cheese, meats, and olives along with a bottle of wine and you are set for the afternoon. Furthermore, the service is fantastic and everyone is so happy, happy, happy ... especially if the sun is shining! There's something about it that reminds me of NYC or my City by the Bay, San Francisco. Head over there and grab a table outside and you'll see what I mean...

Giant "Cafe au lait"!

To start my review off: the staff here are great (or more specifically, the brown-haired American waitress is particularly great; so refreshingly friendly and helpful!) The décor is a mixture between Parisian Bistro and slightly neglected Dublin cafe.. so it definitely has a certain "je ne sais quoi", but could probably do with a bit of a spruce up. I liked the way they follow through with their Parisian vibes by referring to a latte as "Cafe au Lait" on their menu. They seemed to put a certain american twist on it though as it was brought out in a whopper bowl-of-a-mug vessel. I got a croissant, asking for tomato and cheese instead of ham and cheese. The croissant was nice (potentially could have been fresher??) but I was slightly outraged when I saw that I had been charged an extra euro for asking for tomato instead of ham. Really?! REALLY?!! I just feel something as small as that surely does not require additional charges? Sure sure "it's only a euro" I hear you mutter with eyes raised to heaven, but that's not the point. It was unnecessary and left a scowl on my face as that lovely waitress bid me farewell -and she deserved more than that god dammit!!!

Cool coffee art! Mochacino and cappuccino.

After finding this review on yelp, I figured it was the place to hit up for breakfast. Fellow yelpers, you did not disappoint. First off, the map here on yelp mobile lies a bit. You actually want to walk more away from Wicklow St. Not much of a walk, but just keep that in mind. So the breakfast here is served all day. My dad got the Metro Special for around€6.50. It was a hearty plate of eggs, bacon, and two pancakes. This was definitely a steal compared to what I've seen from other cages. I got the sausage sandwich for around €7. It was a healthy tasting meal that was large enough to fill me up. My mom got the cheese and ham croissant for €5. It looked a little small, but it was filling according to her. The best part of it was the coffee. The cappuccino and mochacino were downright bangin' as both my mom and dad out it. I went with regular black coffee and was happily surprised with the amount of flavor! All in all, a great stop for cheap breakfast that is of good quality. Great people too!

Gluten free heaven. The focaccia with basil pesto, onion hummus and red pepper Mayo just with gluten free bread.

Since one of my favourite places to hang out closed down recently I've been spending a lot of time back in The Metro Cafe. Coffee is good, they have soy milk! They can make majority of the menu gluten free which is always a plus and the staff are super lovely. The only downside is if you're a lover of sitting outside and people watching the heaters are broken but that's nothing that can't be fixed by the super soft red blankets that are on most chairs.

Smoked salmon salad

This place was pretty average at best. I found it quite cramped inside and really packed on a Saturday, but the staff were quite friendly and efficient despite the cafe being so busy. The food was pretty decent, I ordered the smoked salmon salad and my mom got the buttermilk pancakes which ok, nothing special. However, they burnt one side of the pancakes which wasn't good. The prices are really reasonable, around €8~11 per meal. There's also a decent wine list. I'd say this cafe is better on sunny days when you can sit outside. Overall, reasonably priced breakfast/ lunch spot with quick service and a good selection of sandwiches, salads and mains.

Metro Café will always bring in more customers than the other coffee shops across the street because of its outdoor seating area. Located on the corner of South William and Chatham, customers of this café are always treated to some afternoon rays. Besides the prime location, the food is tasty too. Like other coffee shops, it serves sandwiches, soups and toasties. But Metro Café lets you choose your own bread, from wholegrain to croissant, and the portions are reasonable too. When it comes to coffee, they have all your basic choices: latte, americano, cappuccino, etc. They make a nice brew. Prices match those found in other city centre cafés, but I would go here instead of elsewhere. You walk away from your lunch feeling healthy and relaxed.

I was brought here by a friend who probably spent more time at Metro Cafe than at Trinity during her university days. She is a huge fan of the establishment that enabled her to sit for hours on end, playscript in one hand, lukewarm coffee in the other, contemplating the difficulties involved with staging a production of 'The Rivals' as a 2-hander. That said, I needed to see for myself. Metro Cafe has a wonderful atmosphere, and is most certainly a place one could find oneself in for the better part of an afternoon. My friend and I definitely took our time over lunch and coffee. Coffee was lovely, but lunch was not quite so lovely. Mine was the bruschetta, and hers was a chicken panini. I am a big fan of the bruschetta as a general rule. I love the taste of fresh, lightly grilled ciabatta bathed in authentic Italian olive oil, mixed with pesto and fresh tomatoes. Metro Cafe's version of the bruschetta was something different. Bland, undercooked ciabatta, flavourless olive oil (suspiciously reminiscent of the Tesco variety), average tomatoes and not even a hint of the most important ingredient - pesto!! Despite the below average food, the service was great and we had an enjoyable time at Metro Cafe. I would venture there again (if only for a coffee or three).

Holy. Shit. I rarely…read morecurse but finding this gluten free goldmine of glorious pancakes was like a blessing of the saints. The portion sizes kind of seem small but that could be because my girlfriend and I split everything and it was basically a couple of bites from each other's dishes. We got the blueberry lemon pancakes, and a meat dish for the needed protein, so one savory and one sweet, the way breakfast is meant to be worshipped and devoured simultaneously. Beautiful, small place that gets packed very quickly. Interestingly enough I thought it was a French bistro, but I believe the owners hail from Ukraine as that is the country flag that was hung outside the shape if my world history learnings are correct. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and would come back in a New York minute if I get the chance to visit Dublin again. As always people SYOY!!!

I do wish the bacon side had 2 slices but it only comes with 1. My husband had French crepes with blueberry supreme topping and an order of the potato fritters, which is its own meal. I had hot tea and he had a cappuccino. Be reminded that this is a European sized cup not a giant American size. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals so much so that I left no scraps on my plate. My husband didn't finish his fritters that have avocado on them bc he's not a fan of avocado. He forgot to ask that they be removed. His fault. Very nice young staff. I wish that we had discovered this restaurant sooner bc we would have eaten breakfast there again but we discovered it on our second to last day.

What I got: -Potato danish- savory; slight salty, crispy flakey layers. -Sausage roll- slightly salty for my preference, but has a very crispy crust and a meaty sausage in the middle. We went back a second time on our trip and got a few more pastries, all of which were very delicious. The pastries were hot, flakey, glistening, delicate, and perfectly sweet on both visits. I didn't wait more than 5/10 minutes. I grabbed a couple of different things for us to try -- the focaccia, morning bun, salted caramel roll, and the cinnamon roll. My favorite was easily the focaccia, which could compete with the best I had in Italy -- so good. The morning bun was good, but nothing crazy exciting. The salted caramel roll had to be the least caramel-y caramel roll I've ever had, but it didn't taste bad and the salted part was interesting (in a good way!). The Cinnamon roll was unique, which I appreciate. It had a big glob of cream cheese frosting (too much for me, but I imagine it would float a lot of folks' boats) and some orange flavoring! I quite liked the orange. I wanted to get a matcha to go, but they said they didn't have disposable cups. You could buy a 5 euro reusable one and then if you brought it back you'd get a refund... interesting, but I was leaving that day and wouldn't be back in the area. I can't speak to the ambiance because we were in and out, but it looked like they had a decent amount of space. All in all, I would recommend this place! For me it was a 4, but I'm sure for some it would bop up to a 5.

For my tastes the double baked eggs were overdone, but that's double baked for you. Everything else was so delicious though that I truly didn't even notice. It was a wonderful pile of meat overflowing out of a little skillet with a stack of soda bread and butter. Truly it was a delight. I also ordered up their irish coffee. This was especially fun because it's not a simple shot of whiskey, coffee and cream. They create a brown sugar syrup blended with the whiskey to cook off the alcohol but retain the flavor. This means you can day drink and not even bat an eye at it being strange. The flavor was delicious and I'll be trying to recreate this at home for sure.
