We became obsessed with this cute coffee shop. We were staying at a place nearby, so everyday we stopped by for breakfast. I think we tried almost everything on their breakfast menu. I think not only did we enjoy their food, but we also enjoy their incredibly friendly service. It is located in front of Kilmainham Gaol, so it is a good place to stop after visiting the infamous jail. Anyways, the scrambled eggs, bacon & toast and the honey ham sandwich were my favorite items. Every morning I got an espresso shot. Their coffee is Fairtrade and Rain Forest Alliance Certified.  5 stars. Highly recommended. Try one of their cookies. read more

You see both locals and tourists here. They make a killer mocha here and their sandwiches are filled with extremely fresh ingredients. Mocha and sandwich was only 9€. I got there right at 8am (at opening), and they only took about 5-7 minutes to get my order ready. And pretty much right at opening, a line starts forming. That's pretty much a good tell tale sign that this is a good cafe. Will visit again the next time I'm in Dublin since it's right next to the hotel I stay at. Oh... and free wifi. read more

Delightful little cafe found just outside of Kilkamann Gaol. I rather enjoyed eating outside here in full view of the gaol to contemplate and reflect on the tour I had just taken. The food is delightful and delicious. It's nice to have a little place like this in the area. They also deliver on a proper cup of tea. YUM! Stopped here for lunch before our tour of Kilmainham jail. Unassuming cafe with a bright cheery interior and the staff to match. I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh, contemporary menu, expecting much more of a tourist trap given that's it's across from the jail. I had the Sliced Turkey Breast, Taleggio Cheese, Pesto Rosso and Rocket on Ciabatta (p.s. Rocket is the coolest name ever for Arugula). Delicious! My family and I decided to get a bite here after the long tour of the Gaol because we figured their €6-7 sandwiches would be more filling that the €5 whoppers we see around. And thus, we were not disappointed. First off, I want to mention how fresh everything tasted. We got the basil pesto chicken sandwich and the sandwich of the month. Both were absolutely filling and tasty. We also got a large bowl of the soup of the day, another healthy and satisfying dish. Alongside the sandwiches, a salad with a side of quinoa was given. Not really a big fan of quinoa, but I ate it regardless. My mom also order the iced chocolate coffee and was pretty happy with it. My favorite part of the time there was the service we had. Everyone there was all smiles and enjoyed having us as customers. They even split our sandwich and salad into thirds for us, noting how we were likely to share (risky move, but I appreciate the attentiveness!). Also, our Discover/Diner's Club card wasn't accepted at the time of when we were supposed to pay. Not only that, we had a line of 5 people behind us, making my dad and I feeling even crappier for making everyone wait. However, the cashier told I not to worry about it and just eat first and pay later. Probably one of the coolest things they could've done. I really like this cafe. It's right across the street from Kilmainham Gaol and the perfect spot to warm up after taking tour in the relatively drafty building. We stopped by here for a coffee and to pick up some lunch to go. The coffee was delicious - very nutty and with notes of chocolate! We then ordered their two sandwiches - a chicken pesto and a falafel - as well as some broccoli salad, which was our least favorite dish as the broccoli had a bitter taste to it. The sandwiches, though - delicious! The staff warmed them up and then cut them in two before wrapping them up to take away. We had a nice picnic eating them later. This is a popular cafe and definitely will satisfy you should you stop by here for some snacks. There's also outdoor seating if the weather cooperates! read more

Lime tree cafe is a great option if you are looking for a quick bite and you are in kilmainham. It's located across the road from the famous gaol. There's a nice terrace area that we say in both times- it's set back from the road so it's pleasant. They do a great range of sandwiches, some hot dishes, lovely cakes and sweet nibbles and excellent coffee. I live nearer to insomnia in kilmainham but I think Limetree has more character. The staff will drop stuff down to your table when you have paid. I found them all to be friendly. Definitely worth a visit- do the gaol tour first and then walk through the Royal Hospital grounds after lunch. Perfect! read more

The Lime tree is in a great location since the redevelopment of the area around Kilmainham Jail (or Goal if you are a tourist). The Royal Hospital housing the museum of modern art is at one end of the area and the Jail at the other. The cafe policy of "no baby buggies" is a little off-putting but only applies at busy lunchtime. If you arrive in the morning or early afternoon you and your little one will be welcomed. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. A big sexy chicken-on-sourdough sandwich will cost about a fiver and an Americano coffee about €3 read more

Nice little cafe across from the Gaol. I enjoyed a pot of tea. I also had 2 types of salad served with a little hummus and chips. The rice salad was great. The broccoli salad was ok. Back in the day, when I lived in the apartments opposite the Kilmainham Gaol and most commercial spaces there were unoccupied, I always thought to myself: someone should really open a little cafe here. And then, a few years later, someone did. I stopped by a few times in the last few weeks, service was friendly enough but not overly so and it was always busy. They have a couple of tables outside which are in high demand as they get the sun pretty much all day. I never had food here but I love their Suki teas. Try it if you are in the area. read more

Cute little cafe with bright decor, and tasty healthy whole foods. My sandwich came toasted with a small green salad and a chickpea salad. The choices of San Pellegrino sparkling flavored water/juices are pretty amazing - I haven't ever seen that many flavors! I've been here now for tea one morning and lunch one day, and I can easily see myself going back. Their scones look especially nice, but I haven't tried one yet! read more

Popped in by chance while waiting for the Prison tour (across the road). Well worth the visit. Coffee was excellent: cappuccino and macchiato enjoyed. Pastries can often disappoint with the taste not living up to the visual impression, not the case here, caramel shortcake and rocky road cake were fab. We stopped by this cozy looking cafe for lunch after visiting Kilmainham Gaol jail. The yelp reviews were positive so we gave it a try. The service was friendly & the food was fresh & made to order. I ordered the Honey roast ham sandwich with a side salad & latte while my wife ordered the Falafel with Hummus on pita bread with a green tea. We thoroughly enjoyed our food & drinks. Great little cafe just by the Hilton Kilmainham - tasty breakfasts and coffee at very reasonable prices. Scones are lovely but would be better served with clotted cream, than generic butter. Service is friendly if not a little slow... I guess that comes with the whole neighbourhoodly feel about the cafe, where no one is rushed for time? However it can be overrun by tourists from the nearby Kilmainham Gaol so it highly depends on that if you get a table or not! read more

Came for breakfast and wasn't disappointed. The granola, fruit and yogurt dish was a very generous portion and very tasty. My blueberry muffin was delicious. Went here the other day for a quick lunch with a friend. I'd say a fairly good vegetarian/vegan selection, coming from someone who doesn't eat meat or fish. There was a long line but it moved very fast. The employees were very friendly and polite. I did think it was a tad expensive but that is to be expected from an independently owned local cafe. The wrap I ordered was very tasty. However, my friend received the wrong order. We double, if not triple checked, it seemed there was a mix of up wraps. My friend ordered a ham and cheese but received the same thing I did. The employee called out my friends correct order and order number but when we left the cafe with our take out lunches he had gotten the wrong dish. This was slightly disappointing, but I'd assume a one time mistake. read more

The Lime Tree cafe is a great spot for lunch in the Kilmainham area as not everyone can afford the lunch prices that The Hilton Hotel asks for. It's located across the street from the Goal which as we all know is a big tourist attraction, The cafe has a bright and vibrant interior so it has a nice cheery feel but it also looks like an advertisement for IKEA. The menu boasts a range of healthy foods and organic produce, I have had lunch there a total of three times so far and find the food to be of a good quality , My usual order is a turkey sub that comes with side salad. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very helpful when it comes to making special requests on orders due to allergies or lack of interest in certain items etc. They offer free wifi for those who have to check E-mails etc on their lunch breaks from work or if you chose to check facebook. I would recommend this cafe for anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced lunch while in the Kilmainham area. read more

Great spot! Super close to our hotel, the Hilton Dublin Kilmainham, and delicious food. Needed somewhere to go for breakfast and tried it out based on other reviews. Reasonably priced too. Loved the bacon, cream cheese bagel!! Not sure why I hadn't thought of that. My mocha was wonderful and also tried the chocolate biscuit cake. The cake was a little rich for me, but still yummy.
