So this past Sunday we checked the website and the Sunday Family Day specials were still listed. Our family went to celebrate a birthday and planned on ordering off that menu. After being seated I noticed we were missing that menu so I asked our server and was told, they no longer offer that menu. We were all seated and had started ordering drinks by that time so we stayed. My disappointment and frustration is the menu was and still is today as I write this, listed on the website. I believe the menu should have been honored since the restaurant is still advertising it and the same entries are and were still be offered, just at a higher price.

We went early because we were seeing a show. 5:30 pm on a Friday. So restaurant wasn't busy at all yet. What was a little frustrating was that waiter came over three times to get main dinner order. I don't understand the rush. We were eating the appetizer and almost done. No indication that we were in a rush. Yet he felt the need to come over again and interrupt to get the dinner order. As opposed to letting us finish the appetizer, clear table. And then come back. I know it's ingrained to flip tables. But come on. Otherwise. Highly recommend

I had a caesar salad with lobster which was so delicious. The lobster was already shelled out so no need to worry about cracking lobster! Tasted so fresh and hit the spot. My husband got a burger and fries and no complaints there. Me and my daughter tried the fries and they were so good. My daughter inhaled her fried calamari either the cocktail sauce. Nice presentation too. I got an Arnold palmer and it was pinkish due to the pink lemonade. I am not a fan of their pink lemonade and feel regular lemonade would taste fresher and better. The service here was so on point again. Please give your Tinker Bell waitress a raise she was so great with us! I don't know her name but she was adorable and very accommodating to our table. Explained what they were out of and knew the dish well when I asked if the eggplant with the penne alla vodka was breaded. It was breaded by the way and eas delicious. It was nicely cut thin and came with this sourdough bread that was toasted and spiced so good. Not sure what the spice was but it was a warm toasty flavor. I noticed the waitress was doing a lot of work the restaurant was pretty full and she was the only waitress we saw there. Excellent job she does keeping up. If I could have left her a bigger tip I would have. I think the restaurant needs at least another waiter or waitress because of how crowded it can get. I would dine here again if I am on the island again. It's great for families and get togethers!

At first they served drinks and walked around with appetizers. I had athletic N/A beer. I had the cheese curds and the chicken slider for appetizers and a piece of the bread. The best were the cheese curds they were so good! Greasy, cheesy, yummy! I thought there were only going to be appetizers and I was fine with that, but to my surprise they had a buffet out for food. Not a buffet where you could get plate after plate after plate, they had people behind the counter dishing out food. I had the sweet potatoes, shrimp and grits, salad and pasta. Everything was delicious. The coffee was also excellent, I judge a place by the coffee they serve. If I expect the coffee to not be so great like diner coffee it's okay but if I expect a good cup of coffee and I'm disappointed I am not very happy. The linwood is a lovely place, I would come here again!

The Brixton is a beautiful restaurant with very relaxed and casual vibes. The word around town is that their drinks are awesome. What about their food, though? They originally would not seat us in the middle of the afternoon because most of the empty tables were reserved. We had to request to sit outside, which was empty, before they decided to serve us. Odd that they did not even offer that to us. The General Tso' Cauliflower was the only great thing served to us. It is incredibly crispy and flavorful. You almost forgot that you were eating a piece of vegetable at times. The Short Rib Brisket Sesame burger was shocking. $18 for two White Castles-sized sliders. It was easily consumed, and I was left much to be desired. This is most definitely an appetizer item, not an entree. The Chicken Waffle was good. Nicely deep-fried and packs a lot of flavor. The waffle looked dubious. If I had to guess, it might not be mad fresh to order. Essentially, it's 3 drumsticks/wings over a possibly frozen Eggo waffle. I would recommend a second dish if you are looking to get full. The Steak frites and Eggs Benedict were the final dishes served. It is hard to mess these dishes up, but the ribeye was nicely seasoned and cut up. The dishes were nicely displayed. Overall, this is just an OK experience. When the deep-fried cauliflower appetizer is the most memorable dish here, it is quite alarming. Portion sizes are on the small end, and none of the flavors for the entrees really stuck out. Perhaps I will come here strictly for the drinks next time.

Everything was delicious and the sandwich was huge! I initially thought the prices were a bit high but given the portion sizes, it was well worth it. I also got a free beer for signing up for the rewards club, which was a nice bonus. In all, im sure we will be back.

Potatoes au gratin & Brussels. They were delicious. My one piece of advice; If you want to be an upscale American/steakhouse with art deco kind of vibes, jazz nights, etc., they NEED to learn how to make proper cocktails. I ordered a Manhattan. Don't assume bourbon. A traditional Manhattan is made with Rye. It's supposed to be spirit forward with the beautiful sweet vermouth to balance with 2 dashes ango. Express Orange and dress the peel, or not, doesn't matter. Most bartenders drown cocktails, this one included. And NEVER serve in a martini glass :) Nitpicky but only bc I loved everything else. They just need to learn how to make proper cocktails. The details matter! I'll be back for that Snake River Steak!!

Hospitality: -- the friendly, generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or…read morestrangers, creating a welcoming, comfortable, and safe environment, making others feel valued and at home. This brings us to The James, managed by Joe Giannino under the fat-cat "Standard Hospitality Group," owned by Andrew Affa & Steve Squirtiro. It's hard owning a business and keeping it profitable but not when it's an almost algorithmic formula driven money extraction system so commonly found today. It's more difficult dining out in the world today when it feels like hospitality is vacating. Vining more about high-revenue than humanity. By very definition, I wouldn't call a good portion of the hospitality industry hospitality at all, and I certainly wouldn't say the James offers any. What I love about food is what it does for the soul, & what I've always loved about providing and caring for people is the sense of community; connection during good times and difficult ones alike; That's hospitality to me. Breaking bread is one of the most fundamental human gestures of generosity and true wealth. When you have it, you share it not squander it, not hoard it or treat it like it's something to take from others and line your pockets with. That's why this experience disappointed me so much, because I believe with the myriad of options, we must be far more selective and far more supportive of local and smaller family run establishments. Today, for a table they would still fill and never notice, I tried to cancel a reservation out of respect -- respect for the staff, for other guests, and for my damn self. Being charged a cancellation fee when a mom is sick on Mothers Day, is not hospitality, it is not empathy. It is greed disguised as brand experience self worth. I have supported the Arlo from this same restaurant group in the past and probably would have happily returned too, based on the menu alone, but coldhearted, rigid policies like this change how a place feels. There are many family-run restaurants that understand flexibility and empathy. That kind of environment matters to me, and this experience will forever make me decide to support those places instead. I've recently learned to name positive outcomes when something negative arises, so I believe this time, it's great that it only cost me fifty bucks to never give this group another dime. Typical corporate hospitality is more what the James can offer. These types of COMPANIES feed themselves, not the community.
