We ordered a little bit of everything: the Kitchen Sink Potatoes, mac & cheese, skirt steak, strip steak, chicken, dirty martinis and margaritas, and there genuinely wasn't one thing we wouldn't order again. Everything was cooked perfectly, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The space itself is gorgeous and has such a great atmosphere, but what really made the experience was how well everything came together. We decided to go out for an early outdoor dinner on a beautiful summer night. We order cocktails and wine. For appetizers, we had the crab cake and baked clams. Truthfully the baked clams were small and dry, but had an amazing flavor. For dinner, we both had steaks both were PERFECTLY prepared with loads of flavor. The Cowboy ribeye was out of this world. Our daughter gave my wife and I a gift certificate for Arlo Kitchen and Bar. So, we trekked out to Fort Salonga from New Hyde Park to check it out. Upon entering which is an upscale restaurant we were greeted by several hostesses. We arrived early around 4:30 due to no traffic surprisedly and our reservations were for 5:00, so we sat at the bar for a while due to it was too early for us to eat dinner. Luckily it was still happy hour. The restaurant was not crowded because it was early and it was the day after New Year's Day. My wife ordered a Cosmo and a Margarita for me. Drinks were good and the bartenders were efficient and friendly. After the drinks at 5:00 we headed upstairs to a cozy table. Our waiter greeted us, and we ordered fried calamari for an app and 2 glasses of wine. For dinner we both had the DRY AGED SHORT RIB RAGU, (dry aged short rib, paccheri pasta, wild mushroom, veal demi, red wine, and parmesan). So very good. It was a good portion. The fried calamari was very good and the Short Rib RAGU was awesome. We had leftovers and enjoyed it the next day. We were too full for dessert, so we just had cappuccino, which was very good also. One the best I have had in a restaurant. Prices were reasonable for an upscale restaurant. We enjoyed our time at the bar and dinner. The server gave us recommendations and told us some of her favorites and veered us in a direction to have a nice cohesive meal. The server didn't write things down, so a couple of the smaller items we requested did not come out. Food: Winter Burrata Salad - Wonderful Mix of Textures. The flavors were warm and inviting for the winter vegetables and pumpkin seed, while the creaminess of the cheese paired well with the crunch of the crispy prosciutto Wagyu New York Strip - well seasoned. Since this is such a fatty cut of steak, we ask for it to be cooked medium to render some of the fat out. The steak is very buttery and coats your mouth. Cowboy Steak - Okay. Even though it was dry aged, it didn't have the nuttiness a dry aged steak would have. I would splurge and get the tomahawk if a ribeye is what you desire. Foie Gras Risotto - Full Funk! It had the same funkiness as eating goat cheese. If you like that funk, then this is for you. After taking this home and reheating with a bit of water, the funk was diluted a bit. Kitchen Potatoes - Buttery. Lovely to have a change of pace to not have mashed potatoes on the table. The chunks of potatoes were fried to become fluffy and crispy. Brussels Sprouts - Sweet. Everyone was dressed nice (no t shirts). The food and service were honestly amazing. Our server was attentive, gave great suggestions and was so pleasant to chat with. We shared the duck gnocchi appetizer which my husband and I both thought was great and unique. Got the burrata and wedge salad. Both were yummy but not original or life changing, but if you're in the mood for it they were good! The entrees were the standouts. The lamb I had was so flavorful, cooked to perfection and it came with roasted potato's and carrots. I would get this over and over. My husband had the tuna steak which he also loved. We shared 2 sides, Mac and cheese and broccolini. While both were excellent, it wasn't necessary, it was so much food. First a foremost - the location and service are fabulous. Contemporary meets mid century modern, and breathtaking out door space make this a feast for the eye and pleasure for the senses. Staff has always been very welcoming, and attentive. They food IMHO - total gamble. Each plate can either incredibly good of incredulously bad. No rhyme or reason or reason to it other than what I can assume is poor teamwork and attention to detail in the kitchen. For instance, the bone marrow in the pictured item was completely raw.. unless that bone marrow is prepared properly beforehand and put into the casserole. There's no way to effectively bake them at the same time and have the marrow be cooked.. that was the case here. In addition that entire plate had zero seasoning or balance.... All fat, no flavor... nothing popped. Just blah. Same for many of the brunch items... no pop or flavor to make a memory. Just blah. Contrast that against every pasta dish we've had here which has been absolutely fabulous. I'm not a professional chef nor do I pretend to be one... but I am a keen observer of service quality and appreciate the craft, so it saddens me that food and preparation is so inconsistent at Arlo in my experience. read more

This might just be *the* most beautiful restaurant I've ever been to on Long Island! My mom had her heart set on celebrating her birthday here, so we went for brunch--and wow, what a great choice. The place is cozy, stunning, and the staff? Absolutely amazing. We kicked things off with a glass of Prosecco For entrées, I went with the eggs Benedict, which came with the most delicious truffle hollandaise--rich, but not overpowering and the most delicious crispy breakfast potatoes! My mom went for the lobster avocado toast. They do NOT skimp on the lobster. It was so good! When they found out it was my mom's birthday and that I recently got engaged, they surprised us with a baked Alaska! Sweet, thoughtful, and so delicious. And if that wasn't enough, they brought out another round of champagne on the house! I've honestly never seen a staff go above and beyond like that. We were there with two friends who had been there before and told us how beautiful the upstairs dining area is. Our meals were very good. The dining room and overall space and vibe are also very nice. The menu is actually not at all extensive but I saw that as a plus, it checked all the boxes without being too large (a mistake many restaurants make). I would have added one star had the service been better. Our water glasses were constantly checked and kept filled, there were adequate staff on the floor and the restaurant was not very busy. Our food was brought to the table by a runner and everything was hot and well presented. The problem was the waiter rarely checked back after taking our order. We saw him once, well after our food was tabled, again when we asked for desert menus and to drop the check. Had he been busy it would be understandable but he simply seemed to be interested in two other tables (he had others) giving them excellent service while orphaning others. You have amazing outside seating, in what I consider to be a tranquil woodsie experience. You're literally sitting on a hill, within the woods, in a very nice atmosphere. This is my 3rd time here. The only complaint I have is the attentiveness of the service. It does not match the NYC like high pricing. Service is kind, but not effective, nor efficient. Each time I have had a different server and it's been the same disappointment, in terms of engagement. I think they may be a little short handed or just short on high end customer service. Sat for 10+ mins without water, drink orders taken, or bread to table. We needed pepper with our apps, and we could not even get someone for, again, 10 mins. Saw the waiter, but he was running around for others, and would never look our direction. That's a BIG miss in my book. This restaurant needs to figure this out. Had dinner here on a Wednesday night during restaurant week. We were disappointed. My husband ordered a starter of crab cake which was good and I ordered a Caesar salad which had limp lettuce. We both ordered a main of pappardelle pasta with lobster sauce and whole lobster as described on the menu. It was bland tasting and only had 3 pieces of lobster with a mound of pasta. For dessert we each had the chocolate mousse cake which was just ok. Could have had a more chocolate taste. We went with the wine pairing for each course and the wine was very good. Our server Naomi was excellent. Very pleasant and attentive. Arlo's ambiance could use some help. We were seated downstairs and it was very loud. There is no noise buffering in the restaurant. He was at the table just when we needed a fresh cocktail or just a little vibe check. Also I love that they crumb clean the table in between courses. For our HH selections, we got the seafood platter, the charcuterie board, and the fried calamari. The seafood platter was fresh cleaned well and the shrimps were ginormous. The charcuterie board was a well stocked board. I'm being a bit nitpicky but one of the meat choices had an odd floral like aftertaste, wasn't really for me but may be for some. "What wasn't good about the experience" is the best question I could ask. From the moment we pulled up to the moment we left, Arlo was a five star experience. The staff is friendly and immediately sees to you, bringing you through a beautiful restaurant. As soon as we sat, our waiter, Joe, came over regarding water preference. He then returned with a birthday card and champagne for my boyfriend because I noted we were celebrating a birthday. As he dove into the specials he gave us real suggestions and "must have" items to try which is rare from wait staff who usually just tell you "what others have enjoyed." The food was phenomenal: the baked clams were delicious and left whole, the lobster pappardelle was crazy good, and the filet mignon was absolutely terrific especially with the kitchen sink potatoes on the side. We couldn't get a table indoors, so we opted to sit on the patio, which was lovely, though we had to deal with crickets and bugs landing on our table. We ordered a variety of sides and shared the Tomahawk steak among four people, which was delicious. One of my sisters ordered the duck, and that's where the series of unfortunate events began. Everyone received their entrées and finished eating, but her duck never arrived. It turned out that the waiter never even told the kitchen about it--first strike! The general manager stepped in to do some damage control and offered us complimentary champagne, which was a nice gesture. Then, my brother ordered a second drink, but it never came. At that point, we were ready to call it a night and asked for the bill--second strike! To top it off, my other sister ordered food to go, and when she went to pick it up at the coat check, the food was gone! We had to wait another 30 minutes for them to remake it, which was incredibly frustrating. By this point, my family and I were completely over it. The general manager made several trips to our table to apologize for the numerous mishaps, and we were offered free dessert, which was amazing. But even with great food, the service left a bad taste in our mouths. I'd be afraid to come back here, especially after experiencing so many issues in one visit.
