Worst espresso I have had in several years. The barista doesn't properly clean the espresso machine after use, meaning old steamed milk stays in the steam spout. The espresso's flavor was old and burnt. The people tried to push Paninis and baked goods on me several times. The price for the drinks was higher than what was listed in the menu. I overheard two employees talking about throwing ingredients for the sandwiches into the microwave. With a Starbucks down the road I don't give this place much hope. read more

My very favorite lunch spot! I could eat here every day. Sh makes her delicious, healthy soups from scratch down to the stock even. Her hot sandwiches are delicious and she has the option of using gluten free bread. I also love her fresh salads and love that she buys as much locally grown ingredients as possible and supports the buy local movement (which is very important!) I love her fresh squeezed juices and the fact that they are made right before you drink them, giving you all the nutrition of the juices. Don't be surprised if she gives you a baked good or a sample of her soup of the day or a juice or smoothie, especially if it's your first time visiting her shop! read more

I have made several trips to the Outer Bean and have never been disappointed. They impress me in the way they bring their fresh, organic ingredients to life with flavors and presentation that I could never accomplish at home! Great value for the quality of food. They have a wide range of really tasty smoothies and always a nice dessert treat, usually fresh from the oven. I highly recommend the Outer Bean even for my meat eater friends. As a vegan I had to do a little research to find a suitable place with food options on the menu. The Outer Bean Juice and Java this immediately appealed for a place to go for lunch. It was low season, so not open for dinner (as of 3/10/15) Nice little cafe, with very friendly and helpful staff. Went through the menu and explained vegan options. Had a brocolli soup (vegan), which was delicious and a vegan panini, which was equally as good. Good flavors and can get some interesting ethnic choices. Many healthy choices. Can recommend for a good and inexpensive lunch. Especially for non meat eaters. read more

One of my favorite places in the Outer Banks! Very vegan friendly. All the food is fresh and flavorful. I have eaten here several times for lunch or just coffee or smoothies. Every time, the food has been consistently delicious. Whenever I am in Kitty Hawk, I try to stop here. As a vegan, I really appreciate this restaurant. The owner knows how to make good & satisfying vegan food. There are vegan salads, sandwiches, and usually a vegan soup. The owner is more than happy to make a menu item vegan if it is not already. As frequent visitors to the outer banks, my boyfriend and I have made it a priority to stop into outer bean for their amazing fresh, local, organic and non-GMO ingredients. We are both vegan, and during any of our travels we simply rely on our own food preparation and cooking. However, ever since we discovered this shop last year - we ensure we stop in. They are incredibly vegan friendly with their menu, and promote a "feel-good, relaxed" environment. Their smoothies, juices, coffee, salads, soup, and sandwiches are the absolute best. Outer Bean is FABULOUS! We ordered the smoked salmon bagel, bacon egg & cheese sandwich, and the pineapple twist smoothie. All were fresh and absolutely delicious. We also tried 2 of the organic coffees and it was some of the best coffee we have ever had! The lady running the show was very friendly and made us feel welcome even though we were there on a busy morning. You could tell it was important to her that we were pleased with our experience! You may have a bit of a wait (10-15 minutes), but it is so, SO worth it! read more

Excellent! Came back three days while on vacation. Had delicious coffee, juice, paninis... As a coffee house manager, I know espresso, the equipment, and what it takes to run a place like this. It is hard work, especially to do it right- and these ladies know what they're doing! I encourage anyone (tourist or otherwise) looking for fresh juice or smoothies, espresso drinks, or lunch to stop here and give them a try. Was so thankful to have something other than dairy or soy- had an almond milk iced Reese's mocha- so delicious! When busy, these ladies really hustled; when it slowed down, it was quite nice to chat with the owner and be treated like a person and not just a transaction or a number. 5 stars all the way :) support local food and talent! read more

Love this place! We've been for lunch a few times, with and without our young kids. Salads, sandwiches, soup, smoothies, pastries have been good without exception. It's so nice to have fresh, healthy, really tasty options for lunch, especially a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices for our family of mixed tastes. This was an incredible place, serving fantastic sandwiches and paninis packed with wonderful, fresh ingredients, deliciously and cleverly combined. There were also great salads served beautifully. We had an incredible bread pudding and even wonderful smoothies. The owner and her assistant were warm, friendly, and helpful. Truly an awesome place. We''ll soon return. They combine a huge variety of vegetables, fruits and dressings to make healthy, refreshing food that feels inspired and authentic. We were visiting for a few days and were struggling to find a vegetable on any menu - and were beyond pleased with our lunch, thank you! I had the immunity juice, it was fresh and had some of my faves: tumeric, ginger and cayenne. I also had the nutrition 101, loved the whole thing. Some super nice Turkish ladies own and operate this joint and provide amazing juices and foods!! Order any wrap on the menu and prepare to be blown away by the sheer deliciousness. They are enormous and will definitely fill you up if you are hungry. Comfortably consider sharing one with a friend. I have seen them make amazing looking sandwiches, too, although I have not yet had the pleasure of trying one. They use very fresh ingredients and have concocted great, unique combinations for juices, smoothies and meals alike. The rosemary bagels are also super yummy and I am definitely a bagel snob. Don't come here if you are in a rush, though. Quality takes time and this is typically a one or two man operation. Totally worth the wait, I promise! read more

Came here on our way out of OBX at the start of our drive home and were severely disappointed. My partner and I both ordered espresso drinks from Outer Bean. This was the first time in my life I've disliked a drink so much that I threw it away without drinking more than a sip and my partner did the same. Both of our drinks tasted like watered down milk with sugar, with no trace of actual coffee. Ended up stopping again at another coffee shop to replace Outer Bean's bad coffees which were just under $10. Recommend getting coffee elsewhere. read more
