Oh the smell of fresh roasted coffee wafting through the front door.... Heavenly. Very cool, independent coffee shop in the heart of historic, downtown Manteo. Located in an older building, the cafe has a relaxing, "stay a while" vibe. We were drawn to the large prayer wall filled individual prayers left by patrons. Soothing, compassionate feel. We are not religious and noticed the highly religious theme of this cafe, which is OK with us as it seems the owners/management walk the talk. They donate a percentage of their profits to charities. We ordered a mango-pineapple smoothie and two decaf mochas. Our granddaughter felt the smoothie's pineapple taste overshadowed the mango, but enjoyed it. We liked that the mochas were smooth, had a rich coffee flavor and were not too sweet. The warmed cinnamon roll which we shared was perfectly done. Soft, gooey and full of cinnamon with minimal icing. We purchased a bag of coffee beans, which this company roasts themselves, for our son for Father's Day. When Manteo, we will be back. read more

A Christian establishment which means "grace and kindness" according to their sign. A cool prayer wall that we were excited to pin our prayer too. Unfortunately I knocked my coffee over while pinning our prayer to the wall and they wanted to charge me full price for another coffee. We visited a couple times on vacation and LOVED this coffee shop. It's in downtown Manteo and super easy to walk to. I tried a samoas latte and a cinnamon bun latte. They were both so yummy! My boyfriend tried a strawberry lemonade one day and a vanilla latte the next and loved both of them. The lemonade was so refreshing for a hot summer day. They're very quick even though they get a lot of business. The inside is super cute and there's also a lot of places to sit inside and outside in the surrounding areas. read more

Lovely coffee shop in Manteo, North Carolina. Stopped on our walk back to our car for a mocha after visiting Festival Park. Mocha did not contain as much chocolate as I normally like but it was warm & gave me the caffeine boost I needed. Friendly service. Decent Christian coffee shop located in downtown Manteo. We parked along the street and walked over for some caffeine. They (understandably) primarily focus on coffee offering hot or iced coffee drinks and whole beans. Some tea bags and pastries for sale along with other items like parfaits, packaged cold brew, t-shirts, jewelry, mugs, etc. We purchased an iced island hillbilly and outer banks blend whole beans that they ground for us. Both were great! There is a prayer wall and each month Charis donates some of their profits to an organization (listed on the wall). The month we visited the cause was Cross Trail Outfitters camp. read more

Was excited to walk to the downtown coffee shop from my new house in Manteo but disappointed it is not dog friendly. This coffee shop is a wonderful stop when visiting Manteo. It was comfortably furnished with tables and chairs. The barista was friendly and welcoming. Alongside the coffee and food, they have a fun variety of merchandise. The peppermint patty mocha was very good. It had the right amount of chocolate and mint flavor, not overpowering. The white owl was also delicious. It was sweet, creamy, and had wonderful coconut flavor. read more

Charis Coffee was the cutest coffee shop! Our group stopped in while in the OBX for some afternoon coffee. I ordered an iced coffee to share with hubby. It was the perfect strength and had great flavor without any sweetener. Service was fast and friendly! I thought the prayer request wall was a fantastic idea and added to the cool atmosphere. Terrible! Ordered an iced latte with a little honey and an iced pour over. These are about the most simple coffee drinks to make. If you're going to run a coffee shop, know how to do the basics. Was served a lukewarm latte and a warm pour over with a little melted ice. And they must have added a gallon of honey to the latte. it was so sickly sweet you couldn't drink it even if you could get past the lukewarm temperature of an iced latte. Listen, if you're running short on ice and need to skimp then just don't serve iced drinks. if something is iced, it should be cold. This was disgusting and both drinks went straight to the trash can. what a waste. read more

Great place to do your remote work- all day :)! They have enough of a crowd to run the business on a Tuesday, but there was still enough room for me to work without being too intrusive. If I was in/out for the food, I probably would've gone with 4/5, but the people here are really nice. The prayer wall they have is a unique touch, and the music they have playing naturally is Christian music. Six Pence and Amy Grant (a pop song of hers), and other songs I couldn't recognize but could tell that they were Christian songs. (I know some of them.) I had a bacon and something else smasher and it was a nice, light, savory taste, but I was hoping there would be more filling. The french press cup and the cinnabon coffee I had here were fine. I also tried their homemade cinnamon bun and lemon blueberry bun (which I believe is also homemade from them but a different flavor.) It was fine, but nothing was gnawing at me like I have to have it. As in part of their name, definitely come here for the coffee and maybe the Cruffins too since they are a Friday only event. For accessibility circumstances, there is a ramp in the center of this portion of the buildings that goes around and up into the small plaza here in which this coffee shop is included too. This place also proudly sells merch of its own brand name including shirts, mugs, and thermoses/ tumblers. read more

I'll throw 4 Stars Charis's way although we just stopped in for hot lattes to warm us up on an off-season visit during a frigid, super windy, overcast, grey day. Just lattes. We had just finished a late lunch at Lost Colony Tavern (read my review) so it was around 4:30PM on a Monday when we got to Charis. Sort of a weird-ish vibe when we walked in. Looked like a local fashion trunk show was wrapping up so the place wasn't really set up for customers (or at least it looked and felt that way). Place was empty otherwise which wasn't a surprise given time of day and being off season and crappy weather. Folks behind the counter were super nice and friendly - felt like they might have been the owners maybe. The drinks were made quickly and they were good and reasonably priced. The only CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK I have for them is that my hot latte (and I would assume the others') was just barely above warm in temperature. Not hot. That was a bit of a disappointment. So if you guys can fix that, two big thumbs up for you. I ordered the WHITE OWL from the SPECIALTY COFFEE MENU (see my menu pic) - the melding of white chocolate, coconut (yum!), vanilla and espresso sounded ahhhhmazing - and it WAS so tasty. Rich and strong in flavor with the espresso plus all the other flavors I love. Altogether. RECOMMEND! We don't get down to Manteo often - every once in a while when we visit the OBX so I guess I would say I'd come back in to Charis next time we're down, even with that slight ding (of hot lattes not being very hot) because I'm guessing these guys are probably the only local small business specialty (non-Sbux / Dunkin) coffee shop in town. The staff my wife and I encountered were welcoming and pleasant. The menu has an abundance of specialty, hot and cold drinks, and a selection of food items. The interior is amazing! One wall is dedicated to personal prayer requests that customers can leave, which is a unique and special opportunity not often found in business establishments. We stopped here on a recommendation from the dolphin cruise employee. When we checked in, she told us where the bathrooms were and that her daughter told her about the cruffin at Charis and how amazing it was. Since I'm not one to pass up on a new experiences, my mom and I made a stop for a cup of coffee and upon seeing the cruffin (a cross between a muffin and croissant) we decided to get the caramel pecan one to split. The cruffin is huge. The cruffin is delicious. We didn't expect the cruffin to be filled with wonderful ingredients, but it was; there was caramel and pecans in the center. It was decadent and wonderful. The coffee was very delicious as well. My mom purchased a bag of beans to take home with her. She enjoyed her latte. The employees were helpful and friendly. I liked the set up and the warmth of the cafe. I also liked the prayer wall, it was a nice touch. There was also a book shelf with some games and books. read more

End result, found Morning Vibes in Nags head that is truly pet friendly in every way...staff, treats, and plenty of patrons wno wanted to love on our dog. Finding Charis was like finding a local coffee shop that made me feel at home. The staff was friendly and, even only staying in Manteo a few days, knew my preferences before I had to leave. I'm a coffee lover and can tell you, the coffee is too notch. My drinks (half sweet, almond milk, extra shot, no whip) were always perfectly prepared. Charis was the only way to start our day in Manteo. We bought some bags to take home. The coffee is excellent - not burnt, not over powering, just delicious, smooth coffee. Charis is always a staple when we come to the Outer banks. It's located in the charming town of Manteo which is less than 10 miles from Nags Head. Josh and Hannah, the owners, are absolutely fantastic! They roast all their own coffee beans. Fridays they have Cruffins which are a hybrid of a croissant and muffin. They're stuffed with different flavors, like Churro, Ham and Swiss, Orange Blossom...my mouth is watering lol. They also have a beautiful prayer wall that you can go and post your prayer. Nice coffee shop. Full menu when it comes to coffee products (regular coffee, mocha, cappuccino, lattes, redeye, etc.). Some bake goods also available. The place is very well decorated. Extremely clean. They appear to have a religious theme going. I noticed a prayer request section on their wall. I liked the small heaters placed by some of the seating areas. Like having a small electric fireplace next to you. Note, we were here in January. The coffee was good. They take Apple Pay which I really like. The seating areas were excellent. We always try to find a cool coffee place when on vacation and I came across this one on our way out of town. It's set in a building with a few other things but I have to say this was by far the best coffee I have had while on our many trips last few weeks. First the staff was very nice and very helpful. I got a pumpkin spice latte it was perfect! Not too sweet but just right and wasn't scalding hot.. perfectly hot!! Then I got a crud fin.. it's like a flaky croissant but in the shape of tall muffin.. I got pina colada one it had frosting on top and delicious cream on inside! Not too much cream but oh my goodness just amazing!! Now I wish IDD bought several to bring home! It's such a cute shop. They have shirts and all kinds of drink ware for sale with company name on it. They allow dogs and I always love seeing all the pups with their owners.. there's a dog treat bowl for the fur babies so they aren't left out! The coolest thing was on the one wall there's a prayer wall. You write down what you pray for and when it comes true you draw a red heart around it..I just loved this place.. I'm hoping I can go and see online if they ship stuff cause all I can think about are those cruffins!! While touring the outer banks we wanted to only use local coffee houses and roasters we started in north GA to Chattanooga down through Florida and up to the outer banks of NC on the last day of our journey we packed up the camper and headed into manteo I would recommend to go back for the camper because it can be difficult to find parking for such a rig in town but let's stay on task if you drink regular coffee everyday when you step into this sanctuary by the water it will be like you are having coffee for the first time hands down the best cup of coffee I've had ever and the cheddar bacon muffin was out of this world a great atmosphere right by the water and several shops around you could spend a few hours exploring and even go back for a second cup don't miss this great spot read more
