For breakfast we wanted to have the Juice Jar again which is a really awesome spot in Corolla. We went yesterday and it was so good we had to come back today. We ordered a breakfast burrito which had cheese, egg and salsa. It is, no joke, amazing. The acai bowl tasted so good. It was perfectly sweet with the blueberries, strawberries, banana and bee pollen (added). The pine island juice was so sweet and refreshing. The zen was refreshing and healthy. I love that they use a lot of organic and quality products and the smoothies are all fruit and no ice. What! Yes, it's true. My favorite was the muddy monkey smoothie: predominantly spinach, banana, peanut butter. There's no melt down of the smoothies because it's all fruit! I don't think I've had a better smoothie anywhere else. Everything there is so consistently made. Jeff the owner and all his workers are just awesome too! They are SO friendly and nice. They are really careful and concerned when you have allergies as well. They made my food and beverages and reassured me that everything was made with attention to my allergies when I got my order. This is such a cute little hidden spot! It is kinda hidden from the road. Quiet atmosphere with several chairs and picnic tables to sit at. We brought our pup with us and it was just fine. There are lots of shaded areas. You just order and pick up at the window so no need to worry about having to go inside if you have a dog with you. We got the Corolla Sunrise which was awesome. My significant other got the breakfast burrito which was great! The egg was cooked perfectly. I had gotten the Cali Caprese which was great. It had a lot of spinach in it. You had me at "acai bowl". This walk-up gem in old downtown Corolla is a must-try for a snack or quick lunch. My friend had the curry hummus wrap which looks very tasty as well. Both were prepared in minutes. The Nor'easter bowl has huge blueberries, bananas, and peanut butter and cacao nibs which balanced perfectly with the other flavors. It's big enough for lunch. The Juice Bar is centrally located to the Currituck Light House, and it's nestled among a book store, photography studio, spa/hair stylist, and a coffee shop with home goods and jewelry. They use veggies from their garden out back for their juices and wraps - talk about farm to table. This is the real deal. Had the Zen juice - delish!! - refreshing. And, had my first (and best) Acai bowl - the Whalehead. I can highly recommend both. My husband had the hummus wrap and enjoyed it. The outdoor seating is wonderful. They do offer biodegradable straws, however, I was glad I brought my own reusable cold-beverage cup to avoid a plastic one. Next time I'll remember my reusable utensils. You might want to consider the same. The owner is definitely aware of plastic in our environment, and of course composts scraps for their garden. Worth the maze-like twists and turns to find this adorable spot. Just keep following your GPS. And, bonus(!) its a half mile from the Currituck Lighthouse. I would have liked more vegan options with either peanut or almond butter mixed in. My sister got the Purple Plunge and I would recommend getting it just to experience its beautiful vivid purpleness-I've never seen anything like it. I liked that they also had acai bowls. However, they were too expensive; they should only be a maximum of a dollar more than a smoothie. In addition to this place providing you a detox with their menu, their seating does the same. Juice Jar itself is only a simple little shack and all the seating is outside in what appears to be someone's back yard. There is a cute chair swing you can relax in with your smoothie. We were in desperate need for some refreshment after climbing the Carrituck lighthouse on an 85 degree day. We decided to venture off the beaten path to the Corolla Village Shops. I wished for this place and it appeared in a little nook with a yoga studio, a spa and a bookstore. We focused on drinks, but there were salads, snacks and acai bowls on the menu, too. They cheerfully made some lemonades for the kids (not on the menu), and we enjoyed the Island Time smoothies: vanilla, banana, pineapple and coconut milk. Ice cold and blended perfectly smooth. Stopped by here after a run on a Thursday morning. It took over 40 minutes for two acai bowls to be served up. They managed to send us the wrong type of bowl, and took an additional 30 minutes to get another one made. The second attempt was still the wrong type of bowl from the menu. Putting aside the service, the acai bowl itself wasn't totally blended and had ice chunks riddled throughout the bowl. Definitely not coming back any time soon. read more

This little stand is in a beautiful, historic setting with white clapboard buildings in a grove of trees and sun dappling through the canopy of trees with white Adirondack chairs, an expanse of green grass and a little tossing game for laid out families for and children to play. There are pretty flowers that attract butterflies and sweet little bumble bees minding their own business. The area is a feast for your eyes and delightfully quiet with faint sounds of families laughing and couples chatting as they sip on their smoothies and juices. The little white clapboard building is hidden behind the bookstore in the little historic village. The juices are made from organic fruits and vegetables. They also serve sandwiches which I did not yet try. When you approach the stand, an employee in the hut will open the little screen window and ask what you would like to order. You place your order, you pay, give them your name and then sit on a bench or chair or sweet garden swing or stand under a tree or in the open garden and wait for them to call your name. The wait is long but admittedly it's because they are using all fresh foods and that takes time. Good things come to those who wait. You're in no hurry in this little area any way so why not just take the time to exhale and enjoy while you wait. Once they call your name, you go up and get your smoothie, juice and food. We ordered the Island Breeze and that was yummy. It had great sweetness and flavor. Another time we went we got the mint chocolate chip. Not a favorite with us--the kale threw off the flavor. Others in my group all liked their smoothies--the Strawberry Fields and Island Breeze. Next time I go I'm getting one of the veggie drinks -- they sound good and healthy. Don't miss out on taking time out for a nice little smoothie or lunch stop. It's a chance to just relax and enjoy with a refreshing drink and feast your eyes on simple pleasures. read more

While the product here is of good quality, the customer service is severely lacking. After spending nearly $40 on 4 drinks, our order was ready about 20 minutes later. Once my 5-year old son received his drink, he was walking away from the window when he slipped on the wet grass and his juice spilled everywhere. When asked if they would please make another one, I was told that they would not because it wasn't their fault that my son slipped. However, they would make another one if we paid for it. I completely agree that my son slipping and spilling his drink while walking away from the pickup window isn't their fault, but this is not the type of customer service that I was expecting at all, especially for a young child. read more

I fell in love with the Juice Jar last summer and this summer it's even BETTER!! The new owner, Jeff, has added so many new items to the menu but the thing I'm obsessed with is the Nor'easter Acai Bowl. I have tried some juices and a wrap but I just keep going back to this bowl! There aren't many places to get real, healthy food and I am so thankful to have this gem right here! They even have a garden in the back where they grow tomatoes, cucumbers, arugula, basil, mint and other items. So fresh and delicious!!
