The attention to detail that the staff puts into crafting their dishes is unparalleled. While on a weeks vacation I ate at the Outer Bean approximately six times. The owner is very hospitable, generous and takes great pride in her business! Every day that I came in I was offered something for free and told that I must try it. You do not get service like this often and it is refreshing. My favorite dish was the Mediterranean salad with teriyaki chicken. They even got me to drink beet juice and somehow masked what I believe to be a disgusting flavor of beets by adding apples, carrots and things of that nature. It was damn good! read more

I had the sandwich of my dreams here - the three cheese panini. I took one bite, looked at my husband and said "it's like they know me". It's a mildly spicy panini that is perfectly crispy and not dry at all, with olive and roasted pepper tapenade, caramelized onions, and apples. The grilled cheese sandwich I've been waiting for. My husband had the BLT + turkey and it was like a sandwich architectural masterpiece. We ordered food to go, as our toddler was asleep in the backseat. They were super nice about letting me take a menu out to my husband in the car to read. I'm from out of town and my friends and I stopped in here for a quick smoothie. We ended up getting drinks and salads and soups. I got their soup of the day (some red bean,lentil, quinoa mixture) and it is absolutely delicious. Everything is extremely gorgeous and the facility is extremely clean. Both women working are very nice and happy to serve you. Menu has a lot of selections for an organic coffee shop. The sand dunes smoothie is amazing. THANK THE PLANT BASED HEAVENS. A small beach town like this, you don't find many places that offer fresh/organic plant-based options. The other night we opted for sushi because...veggie rolls. The waitress asked me, word-for-word, "so... you only want avocado on the inside of the roll?" Almost in disbelief. As if nobody has ever ordered an avocado roll before. But that is another review for another time. So THANK YOU Outer Bean for being one of the very few vegan-friendly establishments in Kitty Hawk, NC. Food : I had the Vegan Turkish Breakfast platter that included the most delish homemade hummus, fresh veggies, olives, and toast. My boyfriend had the vegan pesto panini with marinated tofu, highly recommend! I also had the almond joy latte with soy milk which was really good. Atmosphere : cute coffee shop vibes with a crunchy/granola hipster feel. The owner was super friendly, she greeted us and made sure everything was going well with our orders. Can only comment on the smoothies because that's all we got from this establishment! I got the My Way and Life Boost smoothies, they use fresh ingredients and I like that the smithies are not sweet at all. They put ingredients in the smoothies such as parsley, celery and avocado. Such a great healthy alternative and the shakes are full of protein and vegan friendly! Glad to see OBX has a place like this! My husband had the Healing and the Ginger smoothies. These protein smoothies are higher prices because they have protein and many ingredients in them but well worth the prices. We had some before bike riding and we had a lot of energy! Glad to have plant based and healthy options in the OBX but this place was just average for me. I had high hopes and I'll admit that I'm a bit spoiled with the abundance of plant based & healthy spots that I typically frequent so I saw so much potential here. Food was basic but good. Again there was so much opportunity for awesome that it just felt bland. The owner is curt and abrupt versus friendly and warm but I think it's just her nature/personality and not that she's necessarily rude. The one thing that did bother me was she "gave" us a cookie that she said we had to try. We didn't really want it but she seemed adamant that we try it and wouldn't take no for an answer so we took it to go. After we left we noticed #1 she charged us $3.99 for it (so she wasn't giving it to us), #2 the cookie was from Whole Foods (there isn't a WF in the OBX???) as it still had the WF sticker & price tag and #3 the cookie was expired by an entire week!!! What a gem of a brunch place we discovered in OBX!! This reminded us of a place in grad school in Tucson, AZ & thought we'd give it a shot, especially after looking at the panini menu. And we went in there & ordered the Vegpesto panini & the veggie panini. And coffee with that. When it came fresh & hot, we tasted one of the best paninis we've ever had. We went to this place to have a quick breakfast. From the first minute we entered this place, we loved it! The atmosphere was very inviting and family friendly. We were so surprised by the variety of the menu. I loved their Organic coffee. My daughters ordered veg pesto panini,they just loved it! It was so juicy and full of delicious flavors. The owner told us that it was her signature panini. My husband ordered chicken panini, and said the meat was so delicious! I got the Turkish breakfast, which included fresh vegetables, olives, toast, feta cheese and 2 boiled eggs, with muffin and caramelized oranges on the side. Amazing!
