Had breakfast here with family this morning - my grandfather ordered food - 2 over easy eggs & 3 sausage links. he was brought out his breakfast on a saucer/side plate. his eggs weren't made correctly, busted all over the plate. he asked the waitress politely to take it back and he didn't want anything else as well as he did not ask for a refund. 10 minutes later we were greeted by the owner, woman, by her screaming at my grandfather across the table on how to treat employees and all he had to do was "ask for a bigger plate" proceeded with stating how "ridiculous" he was because he wouldn't just eat it. the poor waitresses were mortified as well as us by this experience. will NEVER come back here. IN REPLY TO OWNER SINCE I AM UNABLE TO REPLY TO RESPONSE - our heads were down as we were absolutely embarrassed the OWNER of an establishment came out the way you did. YOUR staff came up to us multiple times after the fact to apologize for how YOU were and that you were always that way to customers but how intimidated they were by you so they didn't want to say anything. He pulled the waitresses aside to apologize for any convenience he may have caused them, letting them know they were wonderful but YOU were the problem. adding to the waitresses stated how he wasn't rude & quote from our waitresses from quote said "if i knew she was going to be that way to y'all, i would've never said anything." your replies are very telling on you as a person - learn customer service if you are going to try to run a successful business! read more

Not many places are open in the winter months especially when the temperatures dip below 40. We wanted a late breakfast early lunch and pancakes were calling our name. Another thing to note is most places that are typically a local favorite are closed in Tuesdays. We drove into their massive lot and didn't see any cars. Yes, it was 11:00am but they didn't close until 12:30p. Typically this family run restaurant does a cafeteria style line but off season it's table service. Yeah for us! Food was cooked made to order and SO delicious. I opted for a breakfast quesadilla and a side of pancakes(2 for the senior option). The salsa on the quesadilla was super tasty hint of garlic and fresh tomatoes. The super short stack of pancakes went to my belly quickly, hope I got photos. Service was spot on. We stopped here for breakfast while on vacation in OBX. The servers were great but the food was not. The steak my husband got was raw when first served when they brought it back it smelled and tasted like fish and when asked we were told they don't cook fish or crab there. My eggs had a lot of shell in them. The soda fountain also wasn't mixed properly. The only thing that tasted decent was the pancakes. The line gives your large group a little time to figure out what you want (the menu is on the wall) in this cafeteria style establishment. Bathrooms located on your way out (one entrance and one exit for the patrons). No descriptives other than the food was fine and the service was fine (I can sympathize with the straight faces in the heart of a rush). PSA: for those of you with nut allergies, part of the secret sauce is Vanilla Nut Butter. It's in the batter and despite the "it's up to you risk" suggestion from the staff, we decided not to. Compared to the other Stack 'Em High location (in Kill Devil Hills, next to Bob's), this one in Kitty Hawk is a let down. Service and ambience are good, but the food here is not the same quality. The pancakes were thin and chewy. The French toast was thinner. The bacon and sausage were floppy and pale. The cheese grits were a huge upset because the grits at the other Stack 'em High location are the BEST cheese grits I've ever had. And the hashbrowns here do not look/taste fresh like at the other location. The difference is night & day, and the family agreed we won't come back to this location. But the Stack 'em High in Kill Devil Hills is still 5 stars! read more

Wow! I've never come here because I didn't think they would be able to do gluten free. The joke was on me, they did a great job, I had the Greek omelette and a side of bacon... perfectly cooked, flavorful with perfect distribution of ingredients. The setup is straightforward: grab one tray per party, order your drinks, and pick out pastries and fruit if you'd like. After that, place your warm order (bacon, eggs, pancakes--you name it), pay at the register, and find a seat. Your hot breakfast will be delivered right to your table in no time. Ordering and paying for the food went well, however I ordered first and didn't receive my food until 15 minutes AFTER my friends were done eating their food. They all ordered differing kinds of omelets while I had the french toast. I cannot express the level of disappointment I had while here. It took somewhere between 40 and 50 minutes to receive my breakfast of French toast, eggs and potatoes. The French toast was good, but the rest of the meal was not worth the wait. Family owned businesses is always a plus, loved supporting local busy, you enter and at first it was a little confusing; cafeteria style entrances, but once you ordered your food and get to your table, the food came pretty quickly.
