Amazing food w/ amazing service. One of those authentic Italian restaurants off the main roads away from the tourists traps. Food, wine, dessert. . Everything is a must to try. Request the house wine with your meal and ask for recommendations if unsure. They have both land and sea options as well a vegan. Would definitely visit again. There is both outdoor and indoor seating as well a private rooms for a larger group or banquet setting. read more

It was our first day in Italy and we couldn't find our rental apartment, so we staggered into Osteria Romana late morning. Kimo invites us in, gives us a welcome glass of Prosecco, and forces us to slow down and enjoy our surroundings. He showed me the restaurant, the wine cellar, and pictures of famous Americans in the restaurant over the years, all before picking up our luggage and walking it over to the correct address we sought a few blocks away. We went back in for dinner that night and the food was outstanding, ambiance lovely, and Kimo gave us a warm greeting before setting us up with an appetizer and Prosecco, and making suggestions on the menu choices. Absolutely loved this restaurant! This was a recommendation of my friend Aldo when I visited Rome a bit over a year ago. It took me so long to write a review because I simply forgot. As I am on my way back to Rome in a couple of weeks I have been planning on where I need to eat again and this place will be first on my list. The food was amazing, the wine was fantastic (much like all over Italy.) What really won me over was the owners friendliness and hospitality. This was certainly one of the highlights of our trip and we are bringing two of our friends with us this time. This is also the place I took my favorite picture of my wife! It didn't match my expectations, overpriced, super basic food served in a basement for actually really long waiting time, yes they have a truffle, but it didn't cost all the spent money, if you're looking for something special, you shouldn't go this place. Also they have a lot of tables outside which are "reserved" but you have to pass a face control to take a seat outside, I spent, 1,5 hours trying to survive with almost no air inside, but nobody seated on the reserved tables, totally sucks! read more

Outstanding service. The waiter was very friendly and engaging. Gave us a spirited tour of their wine cellar. Food was excellent. We had a variety of pastas and seafoods that we're all terrific. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Visited this "Out of the Way, but still in Old Rome" gem twice. It's tucked away, a short walk South and a tad West of Campo di Fiori, but really away from the main tourist paths. The atmosphere is very classy, but still casual. Let's talk about the food! The first night I had a terrific veal dish in tomato sauce.. My wife loved her ravioli. Two nights later, we found ourselves back for more. While staring at the menu, our waiter asked if we wanted him to choose our selections, which we accepted. He asked us "fish or meat'? Thank goodness were in the mood for meat! He brought us veal, lamb and beef dishes that knocked our socks off. We were in Rome 5 nights and almost went back a third time. It's that great. Back to the atmosphere. The front of the restaurant is long row of beautiful tables sitting under large painted awning. There's a beautiful banquet room inside decorated with excellent art work on the walls. Below the restaurant is an antique museum that our waiter provided a guided tour of after our first dinner. Just beautiful. read more

This restaurant was such a delight! We visited on our last day in Italy. As we were making our way to the car, my poor fiancé pointed out multiple restaurants but I didn't want any of them. This was the last place before we arrived at our car so I agreed. From the moment we walked in I was very glad we chose this restaurant. We sat on the patio. The plates were beautiful! The man who was our waiter must have been the owner. He was lovely and friendly and funny. I didn't really feel like drinking but when he brought us Prosecco in beautiful metal goblets I had to try some. Then he offered us to try a glass of the house wine. He gave us a very healthy pour and it was the best wine I had on my trip. My fiancé and I liked it so much, in fact, that we decided we wanted to serve this wine at our Tuscan wedding this coming June. While we waited for our food, the owner took us below into the wine cellar, showed us some of the beautiful architecture and statues down there, and let us smell the wine they're fermenting in a barrel. It's a must see!! The food was delicious! Best lasagna I've ever eaten! As we were finishing up, a kind man eating there with his family (I got the impression he worked there) came to our table and gave me a beautiful Italian book about Rome. At this point I was sure I was in an alternate universe. I've never had such a positive, warm, lovely experience. I will come back here every time I am in Rome! read more

Our last night in Rome we ate here since it was 1 minute from our Air B and B. They welcomed us immediately and was very accommodating. Served us proseco and took our order. We ordered the fried veggies as an appetizer which was just ok. Our food was decent but in comparison to the other places we ate I won't say it was the best. The portions were smaller then what we received from other places. We ordered wine but they forgot to bring it. It happens, not a complaint. We had asked for two checks which they did for us however both bills were incorrect. They did correct it after we pointed out that the charges were wrong. What I thought was odd was that they charged us for bread ! I've been in Italy for two weeks and this was the first place to charge us for bread. After we pointed it out they deleted it. First night of first time in Rome, staying at Hotel Ponte Sisto across from Ponte Sisto bridge. We dropped in this hideaway restaurant on San Paolo alla Rigola by shear chance. The host and waitress (singular forms intended) greeted us warmly although they barely speak any English. Like several other restaurants in the area, this one only has a few tables of customers, and the atmosphere is casual, quiet and very comfortable. Upon knowing we (majority of us anyway) are from Texas, the host produced a big visitor signing book, treated us with champagne and showed us pictures of Bill Clinton at the restaurant in 2005 (how he mixed up an Arkansan from a Texan is beyond this post). The host then led us to their wine cellar. The cellar has several small rooms, all full of local wines and adorned with pieces from Ancient Rome statues that you may find in museums of lesser cities. He helped us picked up a 2012 Dolcetto D'alba from Piemonte region, which is full of aroma, dry and tasted great. We ordered Lasagna, pasta, seafood, stewed beef as main dishes, with prosciutto crudo(cured raw ham) for appetizer. All tasted great, even my two usually very picky daughters are happy with the selections. Maybe the waitress assumed we wouldn't like them, but we had to ask for olive oil and olives and both came up quite quickly. After we finished our excellent meal, the host presented us a hard cover coffee table book as a gift, "Pictures and Stories of Roma". We certainly can enjoy the pictures, but will have to resort to MICROSOFT Translator for the stories as they are in Italian. On our way out we were greeted by the owner and chatted for a few minutes before waiving goodbye. We spent 110 euros for two adults and two teens, including drinks and tips. An excellent deal comparing to similar restaurants in Paris or London. All in all, great wine selections, great food, great environment. Stumbled upon this place by accident while in Rome. Completely great, any bad reviews written for this place are more telling of the critic than the restaurant. If you did/do not like this place, you're wrong or must have been in some mood that nothing could have helped you out of. Bill Clinton ate here for goodness sake, if it's good enough for him I can confidently guess that it will be good enough for your almost assuredly lesser taste (than Clinton's). The menu has many options that come in many varieties. If you're lucky enough, the owner will give you a tour of his extensive, private wine collection as he did my group. The restaurant itself has the feel of a classic Italian eatery, which is always a pleasant feeling that brings you closer to Rome. I strongly recommend eating here. You won't be disappointed unless you're unusual or simply an ass. Grazie. P.S. I don't know how much this note will help, but I am not one to write reviews, this is my first. Don't waste your time at this mediocre restaurant that provides sketchy service! Avoid if they have a large dinner group! Women should think twice about entering this UNSAFE restaurant the servers ignore you and act like you don't exist. It took 1 hour to receive our drinks after sitting down. Initially We were offered a 1/2 glass poor of prosecco, we ordered the 60 Euro prefix, waited another 30 minutes for the soup, the best part of the meal. And then it was downhill from here. Next came a bland fish appetizer, another 25 minutes came the fish with what looked like breakfast potatoes. Watched the proprietor sit and chit chat with what appeared to be family members as other patrons were ignored. Requested to see the menu to confirm the offer, then went to take the photo of the door for posting this review when the owners became abusive and violent and tried to grab my iPhone 10. The old man and older woman became physical after we asked to simply pay the bill and leave. The nerve the old woman threatened to call the police after I told her BASTA, which means stop and enough in Italian. Unbelievable, ridiculous waist of time. If you value your money, stay away from this restaurant. They are dishonest and will try to scam you. We were the only ones in the restaurant that evening, and we guess they felt they could take advantage of us, especially since they knew we were from the U.S. They tricked us into paying twice for our meal (at a cost of 264 euros). When we gave them a credit card to pay our tab, they faked a temporary power outage so they could claim that the credit card charge did not go through and they required cash to pay the bill. Not knowing how dishonest they are, we paid the bill in cash. It wasn't till later after we left the country that we discovered that they did get the credit card charge to go through. We don't know how, since we never signed anything. We guess credit card companies don't require signatures anymore. When we contacted them to get a refund, they acknowledged the error, but were totally uncooperative in giving us a refund. They kept telling us that the only way for them to give us a refund, was to give them an Iban (International Bank Account Number). They probably know that American banks don't have Ibans, and figured that we would just drop the issue. But after talking with several financial people, we found a way for them to wire the money to us through an international bank which has an Iban. And we sent them very explicit, yet simple instructions on how to do it. Any bank could do it. But they still refuse to give us a refund, and have also stopped communicating with us. So, we are now certain that this was not just a simple credit card mistake, but a scam. Our biggest mistake was that we did not get a receipt for the cash payment (they never offered us one and we didn't think to ask), and without that, the credit card company will not reverse the charges. So we are now out of options for getting our 264 euros back. Beware! Who knows what scam they might pull on you. Very disreputable owners! read more
