Had jumbo shrimp dinners, served with very nice presentation. Have attached picture - sorry I had already eaten one of the five. Caesar salad was at best average with odd dressing. Wine list is way overpriced (6€ wine costs 40€). Sadly, only whiskey they served was Jack Daniel's. Biggest issue was the way servers here target the Americans in an effort to get tips, which are culturally much more limited in Italy than in USA. A 15% service charge was added to bill, and waiter drew a line at the bottom of the check for an extra tip. When I asked about the service charge already on the bill, he told me that "the restaurant keeps that, not us." The check was 2x the price of dinner we had farther from the city center the night before, but I suppose that's what happens when you dine on the tourist-heavy Via Veneto. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. We came here as a friend had recommended it to us. The first impression was the place was nicely decorated and the servers were very friendly. However, we were very uncomfortable as the place was not air condition with a few fans. Apparently it just broke down. We were a bit bother that the fan that was closer to us got moved further away when another customer came in at a table behind us. I guess we didn't look like we were going to be ordering expensive wine and food. Our server was very nice and still gave us good service. He brought us a basket of a variety of fresh bread which was nice but where was olive oil and vinegar which we saw at the other table. The food was a solid 3.5 stars...good pasta and fresh seafood. We were here in August of this year (2022). Loved it so much, we went back three more times! The wine selection is great, the food is amazing ( my husband says the steak he had here was the best he's ever had), but the service was really out of this world! Greeted by a very friendly staff member. Really like sitting outdoors with a barrier between you and the street. We ordered Tagliolini, one with lobster and one with a seafood medley. BEWARE. Let me preface this review by saying the lack of stars is purely for how the waiter assumed we didn't know tipping etiquette in Italy and tried to take advantage because we're American. Food was outstanding and service was too until the check came. We paid by card and the waiter made sure to let my husband and I know that the "tip wasn't included" so we could add whatever we wanted for tip, presumably trying to get a tip even though that's not the norm here. I listened to him cash out multiple other parties that were not American and he mentioned nothing about tipping to them. Overall, this soured an otherwise great experience. This is not our first time in Europe and it was offensive to have the waiter try to take advantage of us. Also a side note, I'm pretty sure the water they're serving and charging you for per bottle is an old bottle refilled. I'm happy to pay for a fresh bottle, but we were charged 4€ for a bottle that looked like it had seen MANY better days with a dirty label. read more

As regular readers of my review will know, I like to travel and visit various cities, hence this restaurant in Rome is the perfect place (for review 500) I originally aimed to call in a "Grill" type of restaurant, but with the gluten free menu, not suiting me, I decided to call in here. Il Vineto is more of an a'la carte/ fine dining restaurant, as I recall it was about 134 euros for 4 people eating 1 course, along with drinks After chatting with the man on the door, he told me about gluten free options, he told me they was a chicken dish that was gluten free and I could have it with potatoes. He did later change his mind to say they were not gluten free, to only change his mind again after consulting the chef. I didn't feel confident eating here, but still continued to stay. My server came with 2 complimentary glasses of an alcoholic beverage, and a sparkling fruit juice for me (I don't drink wine), this was a nice gesture and made me feel welcomed in this resturaunt, and like I was getting the most out of the very high pricing. As it seemed my server had run out of superlatives to describe the chicken, which is also gluten free, I decided to order that, it was 16 euros but the chicken did sound nice with lime, mint and orange. I did enjoy my chicken, and felt although it was a little pricy, it was probably worth it as the chicken did taste very good quality with a nice sauce. I was slightly disappointed with the potatoes, they cost 7 euros for about 5 small pieces, most of them did taste okay but I do remember 1-2 being a little too hard. I do understand they need to charge high prices in a place like this, but 7.70 euros a portion (7 euros before service charge) is far too much for so little potatoes, I would of been happier to pay 5 euros considering the sort of place it is, but 7, 7 is too much! This place is quite small, and it doesn't look like the sort of "posh" place where prices would be so high, especially with a large menu outside, I do feel it cheapens the place up abit. Wifi is available here, I'm not sure if it is for this restaurant, but they is one available that works to a good speed, with no password required. They did put bread on my table as I arrived, obviously after I pointed it out, they moved it away from me and the rest of my party had it, they did mention however that the bread wasn't too great especially with no butter etc, that we enjoy in Britain. They was no mention of a price, although it was obvious in a way, costing 4 euros. They did also offer sparkling/ still water on top of the drinks we had ordered, and of course although they was no price mentioned, they was a large charge for this as well, if I remember correctly it was a large bottle of "San Pellegrino" water for 4 euros. They do have cocktails here, they seem to cost around 9 euros each, one for some vodka with coca cola (reasonably considering the place it is in and it is with alcohol) and I ordered a more fruit based one, and it tasted awful, possibly not fresh and with only few fruits, and not a variety, and I couldn't drink mine as it just tasted very poor, especially through the crushed ice at the top, which made me forced to drink (what I could) out of a straw. This also cost 9 euros, which I think is daylight robbery, even in a place like this considering the quality, and all I wanted was a cheap fruit juice. We also ordered a bottle of "larger" to the table, and ask we didn't request a particular one, it looked like they had brought the most expensive bottle, costing 20 euros, they did bring a nice "ice bucket" to put it in, but that is just the standard most places follow and doesn't make it worth paying over the odds. To top off the expensive pricing, Il Vineto also charges a rather large service charge of 10%, I know this might not sound like a lot but with the high pricing here and considering you might visit with a few friends, it can work out quite high, mine came to 12 euros, which I felt was ridiculous as the pricing already is very high, and I did read the full menu and this was mentioned no where on it! Overall, this is a nice place to eat even though the pricing is through the roof, this isn't the nicest place in general to warrant the pricing, and in certain parts it does feel cheap, but the food is very good quality, and I would recommend to come here for at least one night in Rome! I would have loved to give a higher rating but I can't due to the ridiculous pricing, for certain items, which in all honesty are nothing above average (9 euro fruit cocktail, 7 euro for about 5 potatoes) and the service charge certainly upset me, so that had an impact on the lower rating too. read more

We just returned from two weeks in Italy. This restaurant was just doors from our hotel. What a fabulous experience! We ate here three times. The first time was for a quick lunch. They did not have sandwiches on the menu, but made me a ham and mozzarella sandwich, and my husband bruschetta. We came back that night for dinner. The spaghetti carbonara was out of this world! An outstanding meal everywhere else in Rome can be bad for €100-150. Was the food and wine good? Sure. Was it Worth €200? No. The sea bass is priced per gram, which is like, meaningless to Americans like me when you're pricing a 3 course meal. Felt a little swindled because the waiter (who was very friendly), my wife and I, discussed splitting antipasti, Prima e secondi and they got us for 2 secondi portions @ €40 / each and there you go. I'm sorry to say that this restaurant was a huge disappointment. We found it on the fork app, which offered a 30% discount at the restaurant if we made an early reservation. We arrived to find that they had a different, more expensive menu than online. Then, after eating, they absolutely refused to honor the discount even though we had an email and a screenshot showing what had been offered through fork. The Experience was humiliating and very frustrating. We ended up spending a huge amount more than we had expected from what I had been shown online both through their menu and through Fork's offer. We stumbled across this restaurant before going to the Capuchin Crypt across the street (side note: Don't attempt to eat anything after visiting that place) and found that they have a gluten free menu! On arrival we found that the Bolognese and Lasagne weren't available as gluten-free options, however any cream based sauce was OK. The gluten free seafood spaghetti was very tasty and the panna cotta afterwards was extremely rich. The service was fair, though was typical for Italian restaurants when you speak English (i.e. helpful to the point of assisting you in ordering, but certainly not polite). As gluten-free options can be difficult in Rome, we recommend going here (or for a more relaxed atmosphere with better service, try the Taverna Barberini near-by). read more

The food is ok, service a bit slow. Explaining my one star review: when the check came. We've traveled throughout Italy and have never been ASKED to tip (three times did our server). However, tipping in itself is not an issue - we've been doing so consistently throughout our stay. My issue was that he asked for a tip three times when giving out check IN ADDITION TO A service charge of 10%. When he asked the third time and we noted that there was a service charge, he refuted and said this is customary in Italy (when any google search or our prior restaurant experiences would tell you otherwise. We fell victim to the "steak or sea bass trick" that some on Trip Advisor mentioned; our waiter suggested the sea bass, we accepted, and since most of the entrees on the menu hovered around €30, we were SHOCKED when the bill came and this dish was €85. Some people believe expensive food inherently tastes better; I'm not one of them. I write this as a cautionary tale for those who may not feel an entree is ever worth three/four times what the ingredients cost. Additionally, they do the "bread charge," "service charge," "water charge," and bring "complementary" drinks that also end up on your bill, which is a given in tourist zones. You have been warned. BUT HERE'S THE THING: The standard recipes they served were DELICIOUS and made with high-quality ingredients. Our waiter was polite, attentive, and spoke English fluently. We encountered many places in Rome with amazing food and crappy service, so Il Vineto was refreshing in that regard. They treated us like tourists in the best and worst ways. We were famished and needed food now!( so American). Our concierge recommended this place even though it was only 6:30pm (in Italy, places don't open till 7:30. The wine I ordered with help from our waiter was a blend called Mater Matura from the Giglio region. Very, very good vintage (2008). We shared a beef steak for 2nd course. Verily good but I would have preferred an American flavored steak. Still, it hit the spot. We were all done and Lemoncello is given to you. So I felt obligated to order at least one doci ( desert) which was teramisu ( spelling ?). I am to usually a fan of this desert but this was also a 5 star! Awesome!
