"Jumbo" shrimp combo. What a joke on the jumbo part

Bryan F.

Arrived right at opening for what I've been reading about "the best fish and chips in Phoenix" for quite a while. Clean, orderly and decorated appropriately with seafarer motif. Service was with a smile and a thank you. May be some of the best fish and chips and fried calamari I've ever had. Here's the hitch. The portion size, abysmal. 18.95 for four skinny calamari pieces and what appeared to be a fish stick, not a plank. Outrageous price. Total bill for two combos and drinks, $49.72 for the worst portions per price I've ever seen. I would be happy to go back any time for the quality food and service, however the portion size will be preventing that. Very sad.

My wife and I stopped for lunch at Oscar's Pier 83, a casual seafood restaurant in Glendale on the northwest corner of 59th Avenue and the 101. The restaurant specializes in both fried and broiled seafood options. They are family owned and have been in the Valley for over 20 years. I ordered their signature fish & chips $20.95 and being Sunday it was all you can eat. I chose tilapia the fish was pretty good light and flakey but I didn't care for their fries and would order it again but would go for steak fries instead. Shanda had the shrimp Louie salad which left he wanting the shrimp lacked flavor and the Louie dressing was bland the cost was $16.99. We wound up switching entrées in the middle and I ate her salad. Happy wife happy life.

Hush puppies - the hush puppies were good but the sauce it came with was super weird

I'm not out this way often but did give this place a try. Staff were friendly and helpful here. This is a seafood place and they have lots on offer, if you like fried foods. I tried to avoid an all fried meal, so had their broiled cod, steamed veggies plate. I didn't want the seafood pasta salad and substituted with hush puppies (oh well so much for not wanting anything fried). The broiled cod was pretty terrible, rubbery and overcooked and tasteless. I really had to try and finish all of my meal. The steamed veggies felt like they were frozen and just steamed up. Hush puppies were solid but then again you can't go wrong with the taste of fried, right? They have a soda fountain here and seltzer water and lemons available. Place was clean and bathrooms were fine. Also, had an outside patio space too. Sadly, I really wanted to like this place, but everything was pretty lackluster here minus the excellent service. I doubt I'll be coming back here, unless I may want some hush puppies...

I love their daily specials my favorite is the fish taco which I chose cod broiled. I can't visit this place without having clam chowder. The place is inviting. The staff is friendly and helpful.

I've been here before but forgotten the name, so it had been a minute since I was back. Service is okay, no issues, it seems like a place with a lot of regulars. Vibes are pretty chill, "fishing boat" themed decor, fitting with the name. The food was pretty good. I was craving fish and chips, but not regular fish and chips, "good" fish and chips. The 2 piece fish and chips comes with a hearty portion of shoestring fries. They aren't anything special but they weren't bad at all. The fish is definitely the star. The batter is nice, it doesn't just get soggy when you add malt vinegar. It was crisp, cooked nicely and the fish tasted better than I remembered. You can choose different types of fish, I just went for the cod because that's what I was craving. It also comes with coleslaw and I like the coleslaw here a lot. It's not overly sweet, not too "soupy". Yum. I definitely will be back, and I can't wait to try the calamari. They have different specials too, don't forget to try those!

Francine H.

This is a place you order your food at the counter and then they bring the food to your table. It wasn't busy, so we were waited on right away and easily found a table. We just wanted water to drink with our meal. There is a self serve water dispenser with plastic cups. The three of us all took a taste, and immediately we all said, it tasted bad. The water tasted fishy! It also had that old refrigerator smell. We decided we would eat our meal without water. My sister and I both got the salmon and we both thought the salmon was dry, overcooked, and very fishy. It left a bad aftertaste in our mouths. The large serving of vegetables were good, and the side serving of pasta was just ok. We also tried the clam chowder, it was very thick and pasty and was more like a gravy than a soup. The staff were friendly and the place was very casual but clean. Unfortunately, we all were very disappointed in the food and will not be returning any time soon.

(2) Cod Sliders Topped with Coleslaw & Pickles, Served with House Fries

I stopped in at Oscar's Pier 83 for a quick lunch after running errands in Glendale because it had such high ratings and reviews on Yelp. I'm glad this spot popped up on Yelp because I wouldn't have found it otherwise and it's a charming little fish and chip shop that's great for a nice lunch or dinner. It's clean and warm inside with very friendly staff. I decided to get the cod slider special Because I didn't need anything too big for lunch. It comes as (2) Cod Sliders topped with Coleslaw & Pickles, with lots of House Fries & a cup of tartar sauce. The fish was delicious with a crispy breading and a soft interior. The grease tasted nice and clean. All around very good fish. I'd like to come back and try the fish and chips, and also the wild mahi sandwich, when I have a bigger appetite. There's table seating surrounding the kitchen and counter in a U-shape, and patio seating on one side of the restaurant. There is a small bar with high chair seating as well. There are several TVs that play Fox News with the sound on. Men's and women's restroom available for customers. A large, private parking lot is shared with other businesses, with parking spots available directly in front of the shop.

Thanks Mo. for leading me to Oscar's!! I have been a few times for pickup now and it's consistently amazing food and service! The broiled salmon plate is what brought me here. The seafood salad is the most amazing pasta salad I've ever had in life!! Ugh it's so good and filled generously with shrimp, crab, scallops, so good!! The broiled salmon is cooked and seasoned to perfection and the veggies are so good! The catfish filet and fried shrimps are huge portions and quality food. The customer service has been so friendly as well. I'll be back soon for another delicious meal!

The seafood pasta salad. Other places have been put on notice. Plumb shrimp, crab, creamy, cold and delicious.

Brandon D.

The food itself is fresh as can be. The fish flaky, the shrimp plump, the tacos filled to the brim. But what really separates is the friendly and helpful staff. Specifically Carrie (I hope I spelled that right). Have a party for the 4th and decided would see if could order catering size of Oscar's amazing seafood salad for a side. She immediately hopped on with the owner who didn't have the large quantities but instead of saying sorry no go offered the 24/32oz bowl sizes. Didn't stop there. Was ready to pack it up and bowl the salad and send me on my way but that wasn't enough. She went in the back to check the freshness of (made date). She kindly mentioned it was made prior and while still fresh offered if I could wait until today (4th) would have a brand new batch ready for me for the days offering. Immediately jumped at the chance. I already opened one and started digging in as it really is amazing but she went above and beyond. Her demeanor. Her politeness. Sweetness. She's an absolute gem and the restaurant is lucky to have her at the helm. Thank you to Carrie and to the owner for running such a great team with a premium offering and very competitively priced on top of it all. I truly appreciate you for helping make our party a success and more so how sweet and caring you are to ensure satisfaction. You have a customer for life.

My wife and I usually go for the bread bowls with clam chowder. They are awesome, better than what we had in SF. Today I went with my son-in-law for all you can eat catfish. Would normally give this place a 5 star raiting, but not today.Ate there friday dinner time and was so disappointed that none of the workers wore a mask or gloves .Also floor was pretty dirty not swept or washed by where we sat. all the condiments were on the table for anyone to touch. also did not wash tables as customers left them. Food is very good but in my opinion wont go back if the safety of there workers and customers is not important to the owner. He opened with no rules in place. We watched many customers walk in with a mask on so they should have the same respect. They say we should be supporting local restaurants. The truth is the big chain restaurants are respecting their customers. read more

I have been coming to this plaza for years and have never tried this eatery until today. What can I say but the best fish I have eaten in Arizona. I ordered a combo plate with 2 extra shrimp. The Cod was so flakey and cooked to perfection, the shrimp were also done to perfection and not chewy. The thing that amazed me the most for fried calamari was that it was so soft it melted in your mouth. Never have I had that happen. I usually only eat calamari on the coast as every place in Arizona always over cooks it and it is so chewy. This is going to be my number one place to go to from now on. Can't wait to try the New England Clam chowder next time. read more

Outstanding food and outrageous prices. Thanks to Biden's inflation, Oscar's has become a rarity for us. I doubt that prices will ever come down. $19.00 for fish and chips that used to be less than $15 is way too steep. The service and ambience is good. I understand that the cost increases have to be passed along, but a regular customer has been lost. Welcome to the USSA, the latest 3rd world country. read more

Oscars Pier 83 is a Great place to enjoy REAL Seafood. NOT that typical breaded AZ Recycled cardboard that is so typical of MANY so-called seafood joints in AZ. I am born and raised in Alaska and grew up on seafood. Oscars is the closest (and would pass in AK too ) to Alaskan seafood quality! They also have some great East coast type menu items such as blue crab yum! To be thorough I do have one complaint. Please take the carrot out of the clam chowder. It simply does not belong in there! Overall it is a Great place to enjoy real seafood. My wife and I drive 50 miles to enjoy their menu. Keep it up Oscars Pier 83! read more

Fresh seafood in Arizona?!!? You heard that right, this place brings the fresh fish that ex coastal dwellers crave. Oscar's Pier has a large menu that does fried, back and broiled seafood options. They have local Arizona favorites like catfish but for a New Englander myself, they have the elusive Haddock. Haddock is a white fish that is indigenous to the New England region. The reason I'm mentioning this is because this is one of the only places you can find this in the middle of the desert. This fish is so tasty and getting it fried is the best! Their chowdah is pretty good, has a decent amount of cream and the clams are fresh. I'm super picky when it comes to chowdah but this chowdah has a good homestyle taste! The prices are the best when it comes to seafood in Arizona. I bought a cup of chowdah with one piece of haddock for less than 8 dollars. Plus unlimited tartar sauce, which is a must when eating seafood. I've had their onion rings before and I loved them! They do the thin style which is what I'm accustomed to back home. Tons of free parking in the parking lot and its in a good location. The decor is fun, tells a story about the restaurant and the staff are friendly. I love that the owner was working in the front and taking orders, shows he is involved in his business and explained to me where they get their seafood source from. Overall, I love this place, it reminds me of a small seafood shack on the boardwalks in Massachusetts. Enough of me talking, go get some good seafood! read more

It looked like there was one waitress and one bus boy when we got there. When she did bring us our drinks, I asked if I should order my pizza now since I was the only one ordering pizza. I didn't want my food to hold up everyone else's because it will take 20 minutes (minimum) So I did. Pizza came out in 10 minutes and no one else at my table ordered yet because she never came back. I had to look for her as my pizza was getting cold and I didn't want to eat while no one had their food. She came took my pizza and threw it under a heat lamp which kind of made the cheese stiff but with that - it was surprisingly good. Hubby ordered a cheese steak sandwich and liked it. My Daughter ordered the boneless wings and said it was really good (my husband had a couple and agreed) and her hubby had sliders and liked it. It was fun playing the Family Feud game. We did come in third. Like I said, food was good. Service wasn't great. Just not my type of place. It did look like another waitress came in close to us leaving. After the Codfather closed, we embarked on a quest to find a new restaurant. And boy, did we hit the jackpot! I opted for the Sunday special, an all-you-can-eat feast of catfish and veggies. The batter was a delightful departure from the Codfather's, but it still held its own. I ranked it second on my list of favorites. But what truly impressed me was the generous portion of veggies. Unlike chain restaurants that often skimp on sides, Oscar's Pier 83 went above and beyond. They even accommodated my non-French fry preference by substituting them with an impressive array of fresh vegetables. The only negative for me was a personal preference, I didn't like the tartar sauce. But that could be because of their brand of Mayo. This is non issue and won't stop me from returning. My wife, on the other hand, savored the jumbo shrimp and relished the creamy goodness of her side of clam chowder. We both unanimously agreed that we'll be returning to Oscar's Pier 83. I couldn't resist sharing this culinary gem with two of my friends. They were thrilled to discover that the restaurant is dog-friendly and boasts a spacious outdoor dining area. We chose to dine outdoors, and I couldn't help but wish I had brought along a board game to keep us entertained. The outdoor area is cleverly designed between two buildings, providing a shaded haven amidst the pleasant breeze. To top it all off, Oscar's Pier 83 holds an impressive A on their health rating. I always prioritize dining out, and this restaurant certainly meets my health standards. The staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly, adding to the overall positive dining experience. As a side note, I must mention that Oscar's Pier 83 carries haddock. Growing up in New England, haddock is my personal favorite fish. Since it's a North Atlantic species, it's quite rare to find here in Arizona. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Oscar's Pier 83. It's a culinary gem that offers a delightful dining experience, exceptional food, and a welcoming atmosphere. read more

I recently tried the fish and chips here, and it was fantastic! The cod was incredibly fresh and flavorful, with a crispy batter that wasn't greasy at all--much better than what I've had at other places. The fries were also spot-on, cooked perfectly without that heavy, oily feel you sometimes get. The whole meal reminded me of classic East Coast fish and chips, which was such a pleasant surprise. This beautiful restaurant is now one of our favorites, and we can't wait to come back and try something else on the menu.

Amazing Experience!…read more We had such an amazing experience at Lunatics! Denise was an absolutely fantastic server, so friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The food and drinks were delicious, and the atmosphere was so fun and energetic during trivia! We also loved that the managers came by to say hello and check in with us. You can really tell the team cares about creating a great experience for their guests. We had such a great time and will absolutely be back! Highly recommend Lunatics

We told her we had a party of two, and rather than giving us any information about the wait, she simply asked for our name and phone number. We had to ask how long the wait would be, at which point we were told 20 minutes or more. We decided to wait and eventually noticed two open spots at the bar, so we sat down there. Unfortunately, we were met with the same unwelcoming attitude from the bartender. We asked for a happy hour menu, and it was essentially just thrown at us. We placed our order, and after that, we barely saw the bartender again. When it was time to order our food, a barback ended up taking our order. When our food was ready to go, the barback brought that out as well. The bartender eventually brought us our check, we paid, and we left. The food we took home was honestly the final disappointment. It was completely soggy and inedible. We tried, but it was to the point where we had no choice but to throw it away. The entire experience--from the unfriendly welcome, to the lack of service, to the quality of the food--was incredibly disappointing. We came in expecting to have a nice experience and instead felt like we were an inconvenience from the moment we walked through the door Ambiance - sports bar - dark

Fantastic food and even better service…read more This is a casual family friendly dining spot. Lots of room inside. I enjoyed the lunch portion of chicken Parmesan. Perfectly crispy on the outside with sauce and mozzarella cheese on top. We also loved the salmon. Lots of italian wine options, beer, cider and craft cocktails. Abby was our server and did a great job. Joey, one of the owners is absolutely fantastic!

Been to the one over in Glendale before but this one here beats it by a country mile. Our lil one was raisin cain the whole dang time and the folks workin there didn't bat an eye, sweet as can be. Mac n cheese a little on the dry side. Baby back ribs were excellent, burnt ends pretty good. The pulled pork was average. Seemed like they used steam or water to keep it moist, but it took away from the flavor. Bbq sauce was excellent. There was a band that was pretty good playing classic rock. Overall 4.5 stars!
