Unfortunately, it was take out, and I didn't have time to return the meal. So that was a waste of $20. The tuna was overcooked and dry. Seafood salad was bland and they dumped a bunch of vegetables I didn't ask for. Worst experience there so far. Not sure I'll return. We paid a visit last night to take Ken up on his offer to make things right. Ken was not there but Carmen took good care of us after I explained what our concerns were. The solution to the soggy fries was to package the shrimp and fries separately. This worked! No more soggy fries. Also, the shrimp and fish we ordered tasted fresh and was perfect. Stumbled across this place when visiting Phoenix. Being that I was with people who have lived here for decades they were quite surprised to find this little gem. We enjoyed the opportunity to sit on the patio in comfortable chairs evening weather. There are several seating options inside and out. The clam chowder was full of flavor (added a touch of salt to match our taste buds). Our party had both fried and grilled fish and found it al delicious. The seafood pasta salad was filled with good sized pieces of crab and shrimp and the steak fries were a hit at the table. There was a great portion of vegetables to go with the grilled fish, but wish we had options for some additional seasoning (maybe some lemon pepper on the side?). Appreciate having several condiment options for the fish and fries. Very happy to have found this little seafood gem in the middle of Phoenix. One of my favorite local fried fish restaurants! To which by the way they do offer some non fried options as well. My favorites are the fried catfish basket and the fried calamari. They also have the best tartar sauce! My family and I have been coming here for years and always come back. This is a casual seat yourself kind of restaurant that does not have a wait staff. Taco Tuesday called for fish tacos. So I headed over to Oscar's to satisfy my fish taco needs. It's a cute little place and you walk up and order once you decide what you want. They do have daily specials and I took advantage of the taco Tuesday special. The people were so friendly and helpful. There was a little mishap with my order but the cashier caught it before I did. He apologized and rectified the situation right away. I didn't even have to ask. I got 2 cod fish tacos one broiled and one fried. Of the 2 I have to say I liked the fried one best. They were pretty good and huge. I didn't care for the salsa that came with it but no biggie it comes on the side and you don't have to put it on your tacos. It may seem pricey per item but really it's not so just get what you want...i spend money from beers to deserts, I don't pay attention because I would totally regret not getting something later! The shrimp taco I got I had to cut into 1/4's to eat...so yeah it's worth every penny! I've taken a friend who thanked me repeatedly for introducing them & we spent about $40 shared a platter, 2 desserts & I had a beer & taco...! This restaurant is far from our neighborhood - but we were running an errand late on Friday, and we were starving. Saw the good reviews and decided to stop. BTW - the gentleman at the counter was a gem - he know it was our first time, and really took the time to describe the most popular items. We opted for two orders of fried cod and chips, and one fried cod fish taco. One of us got regular fries and one got sweet potato fries. As a goodwill gesture, he comped our soft drinks for being first-time customers. Win-win! First, the servings are HUGE. He did warn us that they use 8-inch tortillas for the tacos. That should have been a clue! Very flavorful and filling. I loved the cod and chips - I have pretty high standards, and they did not disappoint. The fries were cooked perfectly, as were the sweet potato fries. The tarter sauce was good, as was the slaw. My husband kept talking about them all week long! Friendly service. The guys serving behind the counter are enthusiastic about their product. They were so helpful in helping us place our order. They have different discount specials daily. For Saturday, it was a dollar off sides. We got an order of hushpuppies ($1.99) for $1. You can't beat that. Fish 'n Chips. They offer a variety of fish: Icelandic Cod, Haddock, Mahi-Mahi, Tilapia, Catfish and Salmon. Hubby got the 2 Cod combo. I got 1 Cod and clams. They came also with fries, Cole Slaw. Fresh tasting cod, firm texture, nice and flaky. The batter wasn't super flavorful, but it highlighted the sweetness of the fish. I am a fan of their tartar sauce. I usually don't care for it but it was tangy. They also have a 1000 Island style house sauce that I didn't like as much, but my son did. The clams were standard tasting clam strips, lightly coated, not over salted. They were good-sized clam strips. At the condiment counter, they have kick-ass cocktail sauce, rich with horseradish. Yum! They also have Heinz malt vinegar, Sriracha Hot Sauce, Louisiana Red Hot sauce, salt and pepper at the table. The Cole Slaw was tasty, too, not swimming in mayo. Our highlight was the clam chowder. Have I had better? Yeah, but at a fancy restaurant in Portland in 1988. It was thick, tasty and, satisfying and came in a generous cup for $3.50. Bowls are $6.50. Now I've had "real" fish and chips in England a couple different times so maybe my expectations of this common dish is a bit high but on the flip side I'm a foodie and I know good, bad and mediocre. This place is mediocre. My husband and I shared the 3 piece fried cod and chips, these fries where far from "chips" they where thin cut greasy fries that you would expect to get from Burger King. The fish tasted good it was tender and flaky not over done, the batter was average not bad but nothing special. I noticed after we got our food that you can add thicker cut steak fries for an addition charge I've never seen that before at this type of cafeteria style restaurant. Why 2 kinds of fries why not make the better fries standard they are advertised as "chips" so you expect the thick fries this seems like a petty add on. My daughter had the lobster roll, it was a special menu item just be forewarned it was 28.00 for a small hoagie roll of lobster claw bathed in mayo and the gross skinny fries again. They let you substitute different sides like veggies but again they nickel and dime you for another 2.00. It's always nice to return to a favorite fish place- and it's just a delicious as the last time you went!! Oscar's has great grilled tilapia with a fabulous seafood pasta salad and fresh steamed vegetables if you're trying to be healthy. I love a bowl of Clam Chowder with a crisp green salad. I have very mixed feelings about this place. For two people, it cost me over $25. The fried fish and fries were very pricey for the quantity. The shrimp cocktail and seafood pasta salad made with krab were jam packed into very small plastic containers. They expected me to eat out of these tony plastic cups! So, I went back to the order counter and asked for a plate which should have been provided to me without asking. As I unpacked everything, it reminded me of sea monkeys that grow when put in a glass of water. The ONLY good thing was their clam chowder. It was a bit salty for my taste buds, but, the clams were fresh, not rubbery. If I ever return, I will only order the clam chowder that they sell for $50/gal. The Restaurant is not on a Pier, and it is not on 83rd Street or 83rd Avenue. Like most restaurants in the Phoenix metro, it is in a strip mall. Order and pay at the counter when you walk in, get a number and they bring your food out to you. Beer and wine are available, no hard liquor. I was thinking of getting fish tacos, but decided on Fish-n-Chips with the standard Icelandic Cod instead. The fish was delicious. Very lightly fried with a moist and flaky filet. If I was just eating the fish this review might have gotten the extra star. However, the coleslaw was dry and bland. Maybe it is my personal preference, but I prefer thick cut skin-on fries with my Fish-n-Chips. These fries reminded me of what you get at McDonald's or Burger King, but not that good. My dining companion said the fish tacos were the best ever. I'll be trying those next year if I make it back there. read more

We were reminiscing about growing up on the East Coast and the mom-and-pop fish and chips shops that popped up every Friday. I don't miss the cold but I do miss the seafood so when my neighbor told me I NEEDED to try Oscar's Pier 83 we did. I ordered the two-piece haddock meal which was a bed of fries with two large pieces of flaky fried fish on top. There was also a cup of coleslaw and, of course, tartar sauce. The light batter was crisp (not soggy) and the fish was white and flakey. I don't normally order french-fries but these were good. My initial observation regarding the coleslaw was that it needed more dressing but then I mixed it up a little and it was perfect. Our meals were done quickly and the semi self-service worked fine for us. We like patronizing small businesses and after this great meal, we will definitely be back. As I walked into the restaurant, the first thing I noticed was how clean it was. I mean it was clean, no garbage laying on the floor, tables set with chairs pushed in. There was an employee who was actively cleaning the seating area if they were not helping a guest at the counter. A look at the menu and there was a nice selection of fish to choose from. I ended up getting the 2-piece Cod meal. Came out to just under $20 for the meal with no drink. I asked for a cup for water and received a decent size cup. The fish came out great. The coating was not very thick which is good since I want to eat fish and not an overly battered fish like other places. The fish was decently portioned as well. The batter was crispy, fish was flaky, and overall, tasted good. It came with one small cup of their tartar sauce, which you can always ask for more, and I recommend you do. The side of coleslaw was good. You get more than most restaurants tend to give for a side of coleslaw from my experience. The slaw was shredded and had a good creamy sauce. The fries were just ok. Just the typical frozen fries. The water well let's just say it reminded me of the good ol days as a child drinking out of the hose. No meal is complete without a trip to the bathroom. This is a 4-plunger bathroom. Nice and spacious, clean, and had some decor. The urinal in the men's room reminded me of something a midget with a giant snow cone would use.
