I went there with a group of friends and we get together once a month to try a new restaurant. Our service was very slow, but I think that she was just overwhelmed. She was doing her best and we left her a huge tip so she would know we completely understood We all loved what we ordered. I was thrilled to see a mini burrito because my sister and I both have very small appetites. I ordered the bean and cheese burrito with sauce, cheese and sour cream on top. It was perfect. They are OPEN during COVID-19 Closures. Although their menu was a bit smaller than usual, it's not too far off from what they usually serve, from what I hear. I got two carne asada tacos and one carne asada burrito. Although their carne asada was a little different from what I had expected, the flavors were very familiar, friendly, and fun. I didn't have to worry about the tacos because their red sauce packed in the heat that numbed my mouth. The amount of onion and cilantro was delicious and I loved the beautiful blend of flavors in my mouth. It looked, tasted, and felt very authentic. The burrito was customize-able and I LOVED it. Taking out the beans, I added guacamole and onions and cilantro! It was delicious and I can't wait to go back to have more! What a fun food adventure, for sure! read more

I've tried Oscar's several times. I keep hoping it will get better, but it's consistently forgettable. If this restaurant was in the Midwest or somewhere where Mexican food isn't as ubiquitous they might get by with a passing grade. But in Southern CA you have to do better than store bought ingredients, mediocre service, and a shop that looks like you're squatting in an old diner. Oscars food is bland...even the salsa! Alright this is one of those hole in the wall places amd it is amazing. After the farmers market we came in cause it is hot, and we were hungry. Took a few moments for the waitress to come by. After she took our drink orders she left some chips and salsa. 10 mins in we were ready to order, french toast for the kid, omlet for nana and chiliques for the mama it was all very delishes. The ambiance of the resturant is like your in mexico its is colorful and chill. There is not alot of room so get her early if you want a table. I don't really understand why this place has a 3 star rating it should be a 5 1/2 star!!! One word WOW! My husband and I always try to find good Mexican restaurants. A little tiny gem hidden in the city of Redlands. We found this restaurant by accident. I'm glad we did. We came in with a party of 16, and had no problem accommodating us. I was not expecting the food to be so authentic and delicious another WOW what a great price. My son-in-law ordered a chimichanga. That thing was huge. Everybody ordered something different on the menu everyone was saying how good the food was, I don't think there was any of us that finished up their plate, only because they serve a lot they are not shy about the portions. We are in Southern California. Why are you using store bought ingredients?!? There is nothing Mexican about this food. It's so bland. The cheese enchiladas were the worst I've ever had. My husbands vegetarian taco was laughable with the olives and tomatoes. We got two mini plates and a round of drinks and spent almost $50 on food that was disgusting. We didn't even finish! You could honestly get much better and actual MEXICAN food from Miguel Jr's for a fraction of the price. Only saving grace was the servers were very nice and my margarita was not bad. He ordered beer and 4/5 beers they have on draft were out of stock at 1pm on a Saturday. Will never come back here. read more

Do not go to this restaurant if you are a party of 2. This WAS my all time favorite restaurant in Redlands. During the 80s and 90s I ate at least 3 times a week. Unfortunately, I can't tell you about the food. Tonight was our 3rd time trying to eat at this restaurant in the last 6 months. Tonight there were 2 booths available that can seat 4 people and 3 booths available that can seat 6. We were denied any of the booths. We were offered to sit at the bar, but I am ADA handicapped and can't sit on a bar stool. We were then offered a 2 person table that was 3 feet from the door. This is also where people waiting to be seated will be standing. Thus everytime the door opens we would get a blast of cold air. Or worse, we would have people standing next to our table with their backs facing us. I have absolutely no desire to be eating dinner and have people passing gas in my face. If you are a party of 2, go to Fuentes by the Look movie theater. Good Mexican food and above all they appreciated our patronage. I am very disappointed that apparently Oscar's does not care to cater to small parties. Remember this was a Thursday night. One would think a partial booth brings in more revenue than an empty one. read more

From what I've been told, this is a Redlands staple so I was excited to give it a whirl. The location is different from where it used to be, but now it's in a pretty prime spot along Citrus Ave in downtown Redlands. There is a parking structure down the street but we were able to find parking on the street. Inside Oscar's, it was pretty crowded we got lucky and we were seated pretty quickly. The menu is pretty typical Mexican fare. I went with the Ranchero Burrito stuffed with carne asada. For as crowded as Oscar's was, the food came out pretty quickly and I was ready to dig in. I'll start with the bad. The beans and rice were very bland. Like I had to do a double take because it wasn't computing. Thankfully some salsa remedied that. The burrito, however, was very tasty. Loaded with delicious asada and covered in a ranchero sauce that was good eatin'. While the beans and rice need some work, the burrito was really good. Service was also friendly and efficient. Oscar's is more 3.5 but I round it up because I try to support small businesses. I would go to Oscar's again but I'd choose different sides! read more

Very disappointed on their food and service today. We waited about 15 minutes before someone took our order. I ordered a "large" bowl of menudo and it was not very big. I'd hate to see the small bowl. They brought the menudo and 10 minutes later the onions, cilantro and an empty container of oregano. Five minutes later I got the corn tortillas. By the time I started to eat there was a film of fat on the bowl. Apparently you have to ask if you want chips and salsa because the waitress said "they hate to throw them away" when people don't eat them. Well maybe YOU SHOULD ASK if we want any? Just an idea? I like to think that I'm a pretty good judge of Mexican dishes, and to be honest, there wasn't anything Mexican about the food, other than the name. Walking in, it was very cute and well air conditioned. The servers were very nice, and the food was all delicious and not too heavy/greasy. Fresh Medley of Grilled Veggies was well seasoned and not too salty! The fish was so flaky and tender. The grilled zucchini was not too oily, so it didn't feel heavy and the tartar sauce with the fish wasn't too intense, so everything was well-balanced. The rest of my family got the Rancho Bean, Cheese & Rice Burrito, Enchilada Suprema A la Carte, and 2 Item Oscar's Combo, and the portions were quite big (enough to share between 2 people) but leftovers in a take out box are also an option if your coming alone. The chips are bland and need a sprinkle of salt. The tacos are bland. they need lime or salt. For my meal I ordered the Chicken and Rice soup and it was delicious AFTER I added salt. This was our third time here and it's all the same: BLAND. A squeeze of lime or finishing salt makes a difference. The tacos and chips and salsa are not worth coming back for (too many great options for that nearby). However the soup is the winner here. Waitress really didn't come back as often and when she did I had to tell her my coffee was cold so I had her get me a new one or heat it up. Then when she brought my breakfast my food and plate where cold like if it sat in the refrigerator and had her take it back to warm up. 1st time in 4 years the service and food was not to my liking. We as customers like our food hot but when waitress leaves the food sitting and customers around me notice we have a problem. Good 'ol Oscar's! One of the last Mexican restaurants left in downtown Redlands after Las Brasas closed a few years ago. Always popular for happy hour, this staple gets crowded quickly so expect to wait outside. While not conducive for parties over six, it's perfect for lunch and beers after work. It's been ages since I last came here so it took a minute to get my bearings in the low-ceilinged Adobe-style interior. The booths and benches appear to be recent upgrades so I appreciated the aesthetics. Service: A little lethargic but I wasn't in a big hurry, however, generally speaking, it's a great idea to deliver drinks and complimentary chips and salsa ASAP. Still, the atmosphere is relaxed and maybe that's a symptom here? Food: The chips are warm, fresh and crispy, so a good start there. The salsa is thick so I appreciated the lack of watery run off when dipping in. The Rancho Burrito is wet-style and right up my alley so I selected shredded beef. Nothing but meat inside these guys! The combination plate arrived very hot with cheese properly melted. I liked the texture of the beans especially. However, the shredded beef inside, although moist and tender, lacked something in the flavor department to make it stand out against the more dominant sauce outside. Not bad, just not great, hence three stars for the overall reacquaintence. I'd definitely come back with friends for happy hour and try the daily specials though. Between 4 ppl, we had 9 drinks and every single one you couldn't taste the alcohol and they all tasted bland. I found this place on Google and made the mistake on not looking on Yelp for the reviews. I don't think i would have tried it at three stars. But I did so here we are... lol The restaurant is a small place on East Citrus Street in Redlands. The place looks nice from the street and it has a few tables outside. Inside the restaurant is small but there are several booths and tables to sit at. We didn't eat here even thought we where at the restaurant for what seemed to be over 20 minutes and here is why. Customer service might be important to some and not to others. I really appreciate it since it's something that doesn't cost the business anything, something that doesn't depend on how well you can cook, it's a choice. When you first walked into the restaurant you wait to be seated and the hostess comes and takes you to the table. There was a small table for two (there was two of us) right next to the door and the hostess asked if that was ok. My fiancé politely asked if we could be seated in the back in one of the booths. This seemed to upset the hostess but she took us there anyway. We where seated and the hostess brought us chips and salsa and took our drink order. When she came back with the water we ordered she never came back and didn't seem to even look in the direction of our table. We waited for over 20 minutes, I know 20 minutes is not a long time but when there is just two other tables being used in the restaurant it's a long time. No one came to the table to check if we where ready to order or even let us know there was a long wait. We just sat there hungry and ignored. So after what seemed like over 20 minutes i asked my fiancé is she wanted to wait longer or if she was ok with going elsewhere. She gladly agreed to leave since she was thinking the same thing. I waved over at the hostess that had been serving the other tables and I asked to pay for the water, chips, and salsa we consumed. We where told there was no charge and we left. I hope this was just because they where busy doing other things (since the restaurant was not busy) and not as punishment because we asked to be seated in the back. By the way, we do that out of habit and safety. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because we ended up eating at Byrd's Hot Chicken up the road and it was the best chicken sandwich I've had. read more
