This was my second attempt at supporting this establishment (in a different location was my 1st experience) and needless to say the food is still awful and over priced... I ordered 2 carne asada tacos and the Mexican potatoes... -The taco meat texture is super weird...like it was damn near minced... blah flavoring and had to actually search for the meat under the 4 lbs of lettuce... Once it was found it was very little...more like a salad on the torillas...not to mention cold... -Mexican potatoes I asked that they be cooked well done no tomatoes... The onions and green peppers were partially cooked super crunchy... Yuck... I gave a rating of 2 instead of 1 because the hostess who sat us, our server and bus person were pleasant and my white sangria was meh but tolerable... Summary... I've been coming to Mi Cocina since I was very young, and it used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant. However, since the move to the current location about 10 years ago, the quality of the food has gradually declined. To their credit, there have consistently been a few great servers who helped keep the experience enjoyable. Before today, the last time I dined here was over a year ago, and the food was decent. Unfortunately, this visit was noticeably worse. I came in today with a group of about nine people and we were seated outdoors, which was nice with the cooler weather. There was a live band, which makes sense for outdoor seating, but it was obnoxious, and that's on us for sitting outside. When the food arrived, it was mostly lacking flavor. One person in our group mentioned the rice was overly salty, while another found raw onions in their enchiladas. I ordered the México City Chile Ortega, and the sauce tasted processed, almost like it came from a can. The beans and rice were bland and not very good. I wasn't the only one who felt this way, several people in our group were disappointed with their meals. After we left, one person in our group mentioned they were so put off by their food that they didn't finish it. They said their enchiladas didn't taste right, so they tried to just eat the chicken inside. While doing that, they found what appeared to be a pincher bug in the food. It wasn't reported at the time and no photo was taken, but it was still very gross, and I wish there was some kind of proof. However, based on this experience, we won't be coming back. read more

We had soo much fun on Wednesday night. There is a trio who can play just about any song you request and people even get up and dance. Everyone is soo friendly, it's an older crowd but very respectful and kind to each other. My younger neice 23 years old had a blast dancing with her grandmother and people loved it. First timer. Walk in. This place is across Walmart shopping center. So maybe come here before you go shopping and walk it off at Walmart. I came with family to try this place out on whim. We love Mi Cocina! It has become our new Friday night routine. The chips and salsa are tasty, and the guacamole is delicious. The waitstaff always greets you with a smile, and they remember your order. The Friday night bar tender makes the best Cadillac Margarita I have had in a long time! It's truly something to look forward to all day. On most Fridays, the ambiance in the bar is energized without being too noisy. I've come to this restaurant 3 times now. The first time we came, it was not good at all. IMO bland food. I don't understand how anyone can recommend the food and rave about it? if I'm going to go to a restaurant it should taste better than what it would be if I make dinner at home. I've tried the enchiladas, tequila lime chicken, tacos, shrimp . None of them Good. Lacking flavor for sure. I've picked at my husbands food, didn't think much of it as well. All our teens all agreed it wasn't their cup of tea and wouldn't want to come back again, they never did. The 2 other times I came was with my husband. In the 3 experiences going, besides the food, not being great the drinks being OK and the salsa being watery, or just a weird texture. We've had: 2 dirty utensils. Needed new ones. 2 glasses that were visibly dirty! Had to ask for news ones. A random chicken nugget or hard clump of masa or something in our chips n salsa serving -GROSS! A piece of food floating or something in a glass of water and had to request another. Yea way too many chances for my liking. But the husband wanted to keep giving it another shot. Anywayyyyy.., Third visit (was only because my husband requested to go there I did not want to go) In all honesty it messed up my stomach bad! I was sick the rest of the evening. Not sure if it was the food, salsa, or drinks. My husband thought it was just me but later that evening he also felt ill. Thank God the next day I felt better. But I know it was due to the restaurant, it literally happened mid drink of my margarita I started to feel not ok. The place is by Bear Springs Hotel. Not many restaurants around the area but I am glad it is here. Staff is friendly and service is fast. They have seating inside and outside. They have plenty of vegetarian options. I usually get the bean and cheese burrito plate and it is delicious and a huge serving. I definitely look forward to returning. read more

I wish I had taken a photo, but I ordered the chilaquiles with red sauce. When it came out it looked plain, missing the toppings. Tasted like straight up tomato sauce on chips. Missing a lot of flavor. I love chilaquiles so was really disappointed. The steak it came with was pretty decent tho. They charged ~$4 for tap water which I was surprised about. Ceviche wasn't too bad and the ambiance was nice with live music. I've been coming here because of the convenience of a Mexican restaurant near by. Today my friend and I decided to have lunch there. At our arrival we saw these chalk boards advertising $4.99 Margaritas. Asked the server and she recommended the passionfruit, I agreed. Once I received my bill, I was charged $13.99. When I asked for the manager, and told her that I asked for the Margarita special. She answered "You drank it "I'm sorry" and walked away. I was not trying to get a free Margarita I wanted to pay what they advertised for. Be careful with false advertising and poor management decisions. This was 6-8 oz glass margaritas and definitely not worth the price. If you want to have the BEST margarita visit the Mexico Cafe at least you get your money's worth. We walked in to this restaurant and was greeted with a warm welcome. I always say first impression is everything. My spouse and I had not visited since 2016 because we aren't near the area. A lot has changed, and for the better, because there is more seating area, inside and outside. Food was just as delicious as I remembered. I ordered the Shrimp a la Diabla (spicy shrimp) and my spouse the White Fish plate ( Pescado Nayarit). Absolutely delicious flavored dishes, cooked to perfection. It was refreshing to see a great team working together to ensure not just our experience was 5 star treatment but all who were dining. We witnessed and heard many repeat customers talking highly about their most favorite food choices, that made it easy for us to make our own dinner selections. It could not have been more perfect. My most favorite part of this restaurants appearance, and ambiance was the love and respect shown for family members, loved ones and clientele that have passed away adorned on their walls. This photomontage was so heartfelt on so many levels. I just lost a son 5 months ago, and quickly realized I should do the same in honor of my child's passing. Instead I hid his pictures inside my closet because it was and is too painful for myself to admit and or accept he's gone. But here was/is a restaurant proudly showing respect and honoring beautiful souls that passed. I was wowed on so many levels None of us are getting out of this alive, so why not embrace and honor our loved ones in this same manner. A friend and I have been here twice, and both times were great. We tried the queso fundito the first time, and it's one of the better versions of the dish i've had. This last time he got the enchilada Suizas, which got a great review. I got the seafood taco salad, which isn't something i've ever ordered. The seafood taco salad had cooked shrimp that were large, and plenty of cooked crab on top. The taco shell actually tasted good, as did the dressing for the salad. I would order it again for sure. They also have an amazing selection of regional mexican dishes from all over Mexico. I can't wait to come back and try the regional chili con carne, and the steak dish from Mexico city. We both liked the location as well. It's clean inside with a beautiful interior, where you can choose to sit inside or out. Not a bad spot in Highland. My boyfriend and I came here for a family gathering and it was pretty good. Although the chicken in my chimichanga was dry, the beans and rice we delicious. My boyfriend ordered a fish burrito and I was so happy they accommodated his request as it wasn't on the menu. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food as most of the plates were clean. Service was good and they even sang to my boyfriend's mom for her boyfriend. While not the most authentic Mexican food I've had, it was a nice place to be for our families to meet for the first time. They do accept reservations so if you have a big party you can sit in the larger dining area. There is ample parking which is great so no need to worry. If you need to walk off your dinner, there's a Walmart across the street as well as a Ross and other shops. read more

I'm in love with their potato tacos. They put a slice of cellphone between your tacos and rice and beans.
