I can see why this place has low stars. Only been here twice 1.5y apart and will never return. It was Saturday at 4:30p and they have a closed sign on the window. The hour show they were open, walked in and there's no customers. No employees don't want to be seen, but it's lit up and sounded functioning. We walked out to naw sure they didn't have a private party tonight, went back in confused and then walked out again. The first time I came, they let us sit there for 45 minutes without offering drinks.. The service was really bad and it was hard to get our full order with out asking for the items that were missing. We returned just to give this place another chance, and it will be the last. Then an employee opened the bar side door of the restaurant and said they were open. I told her I couldn't tell because iit showed closed. She took our orders was very rude about taking the orders when the chimichanga was ordered by my child she said she wanted it with rice and beans and the server acted confused and questioned her as if it didn't display it came with two sides on the menu. Food was served it was bland. The chimichanga was missing a guacamole. No one returned to our table to check on us. The bus boy walked by and glance at us. I called for him three times he ignored. There were zero people in the restaurant still. Another waitress, walked by, also didint acknowledge and I had not seen our waitress to ask for the guacamole. I had to hunt them down to request the guacamole then when we asked for the check the bus boy brought it. The different waitress picked it up and I ask why there was a charge for sour cream on there when we did not order it. She immediately removed it. I had the wet burrito with chili Verde. The burrito was fairly dry. The beans tasted bland and pasty. Rice had no flavor dry. The burrito was dry and tasteless. Bad service, bad food. read more

It's mediocre. I had been here about a year ago and remember enjoying the visit. Went tonight and it was...meh. We did get greeted right away and told we can sit anywhere. At the time, there were 2 other tables occupied - both had their food already. Chips and salsa dropped off right away and our drink orders taken, with them arriving fairly quickly. The waitress was nice but I think training. She left for a while and finally, maybe after 10 minutes, someone else came up to get our order. The food took a while to come out... but hey, we like fresh! However, it was all lackluster. The taco tortillas were thick and dry and almost had a peta bread texture/taste to them. Apparently there's not just a regular burrito you can order that already had the basics in it - so I did a build your own where you only get to choose 3 I gradients + 1 meat. So I ordered beans and cheese on the side and $3.50 each when it was just a scoop of each? Ridiculous. Then, it did take about 20 minutes once we were done before someone came by and we were able to ask for the check. It wasn't horrible, but disappointed in the decrease of care and food. Oscar's has been my favorite Mexican food place for decades now. Like many others, I was so said when the owner passed, but his daughter took the helm and was so thrilled to continue enjoying this little gem. However, over the last year to a year and a half it's fallen completely apart. Ignored by service staff, hit and miss food, rude staff and just really crappy service. As usual, I'd shrug it off and say "off day!" Well, these last two times, I am done! Two weeks ago my husband and I went in to enjoy a wonderful meal. We waited and waited for 40 minutes to finally be asked if we wanted something to drink. We responded that we did and could we order as we had been waiting for quite a while to be acknowledged and both of us were getting hungry. She said she wasn't our server and that our server would be with us soon. We didn't want to wait another 40 minutes so we left. We were annoyed and I swore I wouldn't return due to all the previous times but, as usual, tonight I was craving my Mexican staple so to Oscar's my husband went to get me a to go order. After expecting him home within a half hour, an hour and a half later, he pulls into the driveway! I asked him where he had been this whole time and he responded, "stuck in Oscar's!" It took him 55 minutes to get a single cheese enchilada order. Nothing fancy or exciting just a single enchilada plate. I asked what happened and he explained that the server was alone and completely preoccupied with chatting with two people at the bar. He said she could have cared less and when he did ask if the order would be up soon after waiting for 45 minutes, the lady rudely responded that she was alone and that she was doing the best that she could. My husband wasn't a jerk. He wasn't disrespectful, but after waiting 45 minutes he asked when it would be up. To wait 55 minutes while listening to the server chat with bar patrons, it's ridiculous so I am officially done. Oscar's will always hold a special place in my heart and I sincerely hope Cara is well, but the service and quality is going down the drain and this is just one of approximately 8 bad interactions with sub-par food and/or service. The service was good, the food was the disappointment. Ordered the supreme nachos & got cheese nachos- was still charged for the supreme ($2 difference & I just wanted to leave). The enchiladas were average at best. We had the regular cheese enchilada, beef enchilada, handmade cheese enchilada & pork enchilada. All 4 were mediocre. This was our first & last time here. I first want to talk about the service because it was fantastic. The waitress was very friendly and always brought us a bunch of chips and water. The food is really good too. I got some hardshell tacos and it's really nicely decorated the inside. I never saw this restaurant before in the past, but I go to it quite frequently when I'm in Redlands. read more

First time trying this place out and will be my last. Went here for a little dinner with the family and I must say I had better Mexican food than this one. First off the food; the food was not the best . My husband and my aunt had the steak fajitas that was not good at all. It lacked a lot of flavor where you would have to add seasoning yourself to the meal to make it edible . The guest shouldn't have to fix the cooks meal by doing that. It should be seasoned upon arrival. My little cousin had the chipotle chicken plate and that was just hot, it didn't taste any hint of chipotle it just tasted Hot and spicy, the chicken was really dry and she didn't want to finish the meal. I had the suprema enchiladas, that meal tasted like all I had was tortillas the only thing I'd say that was good was the rice and beans. The chips and salsa also tasted really bland. Second the service: the service was subpar, the ladies that helped our table were really kind. The wait time for the food to come out to the table took soo long that they had to constantly give us more chips and salsa . Lastly the ambiance . I've been going to Oscars for years, though it's been about a year since we have dined there. I particularly love there Huevos Rancheros. This time things were different. We were seated quickly. We we given water and chips/salsa. Our drink order was taken. 40 minutes later and no drinks. Ho one has come to take our food order. After 45 minutes our drinks (wine and a bottled beer) arrived and our order was taken. An hour and a half after we were seated our food was served. The waitress carried or plates our with a hot pad warning that the plates are hot. My plate and food was warm at best. Not cold, certainly not hot. The food was good, just not as hot as it should be. The one waitress was surly. There was one waitress, one bus boy and bartender covering a fairly full restaurant. I hope this isn't the norm for the restaurant. We've loved them. read more

My husband and I walked into this place with high hopes, by the look of the photos here on yelp. We were ignored, waiting to be sat. We had to ask the server if we seat ourselves, she acted like she didn't see us waiting. Told us to sit at a table and someone would be right with us. There was a tall dude cleaning the tables, who seen us waiting for a table, continued to look busy. Another couple walked in (Caucasian) and they were immediately sat, served silver ware, and menus. Sorry but I can't help but think we were being ignored due to us being Mexican. We walked out. Never even got to talk to anyone at this establishment. Was here with my co worker for lunch. We decided to get the chile relleno burrito. She turned hers into a wet burrito. Our waitress started us with chips and salsa. Salsa had a kick to it. Chips seem to be homemade. I would rate them a 4 out of 5. As for my burrito it could have been better if it was served hot/warm. My burrito turned cold after a few mins into it. To me the burrito was bland. If you wanted extra sides like guac or sour cream it's extra. I would give it a 2 out of 5. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. So service went well. My nephew and niece really loves this place so I met them here for dinner. Limited parking in front, but if you go further down the street. You should be able to find parking. This was my first time here. You wait until the hostess has a table for you. We didn't wait too long and we got a booth to the back. The waitress was really nice and brought us water while we decided on what to eat. I wasn't too full so I ordered a side of flautas which is flour tortillas fried and I selected beef. It comes with guacamole on top, but you can ask for sour cream too. It was delicious but a bit pricey for a side dish. My nephew and niece thoroughly enjoyed their burritos with the sides. They've been here before and this is their favorite spot. I loved eating here because of the company, but I wasn't too impressed with the ambiance and the food was okay. As a Grubhub driver, punctuality is of utmost importance to me. If I arrive on time and the order is due at a specific time, even during off-peak hours, I expect to be promptly attended to by the staff. Whether it's through delivery apps or within the restaurant, I believe customers appreciate good customer service. However, there seems to be a lack of proper etiquette among the employees. They appear to rush through tasks and lack effective communication among themselves. It's frustrating when customers are left in the dark about the status of their orders, whether it's ready, being worked on, or when it will be ready for pickup. I recently had an unpleasant experience here @ "Oscars Mexican restaurant" where a rude older woman with short blonde hair demanded that I move to a different table. I had been waiting for my order for about 15 minutes without any updates or customer service. When I finally asked for my order, she informed me that; we had never told you it was ready or would be ready soon. I thanked her and left the restaurant, canceling my order. People like this ruin businesses. I'll never forget it and would never want to give this place my money. As a Mexican American, I felt almost like she was being prejudiced towards me. We sat for 15 mins at the bar before anyone helped us. Owner sat at the end of bar gabbing with someone and said bartender will be right back. Never thought to get up and bring us water, hips, and salsa. Finally took our drink order and then our food order. We ordered guacamole but when I ask for more salsa she brought it and said "bad news we are out of chips, they should be making some". We never got more chips so couldn't even finish the gaucamole. Watched bartender take 2 shots behind the bar with a customer. Definitely not worried if we were being waited on well. The food was fine but sadly won't be back. I had my husbands celebration of life supposedly catered with a taco guy but two days before the celebration He called to say that he fired his taco guy. He charged me $600.00. I only got the food dumped in my kitchen . Oscar said he would give me a refund but I have texted and called him. No refund. This is not good business. It is a great tiny family owned Mexican restaurant. We ordered here during the beginning of the pandemic a ton of takeout but started coming to sit down to eat more and more once a few places started opening back up. Food options are great cause there are so many for all the different vibes of eating one might have. Some days I want 3 skipper burritos and other days I eat a delicious taco salad from here - it's called balance! :) Btw - skipper burritos are where it's at - the chile verde is so bomb!! They are mini burritos that are super affordable and pack a punch. The salads are a decent size but what really shines is the creamy cilantro ranch, I always ask for exxxtra! I love eating inside but it is quite small with only about 12 tables total and it is a popular spot. There isn't really a parking lot but we always park along the street and walk in. Another thing to note is they are not a late night place, the latest they are open is 9pm so come earlier to enjoy the pleasant staff and food. They also do takeout orders which is perfect for a tv binge/ night in with some stellar comfort food. read more

Oscars is our favorite Mexican restaurant. In over two decades worth of visits, our dining experience has been nearly all positive. The service was great, staff friendly and food delicious. There was a time when the service became unacceptable - as in "Being-Seated-And-Ignored-For-So-Long-That-We-Got-Up-And-Left" unacceptable. And sometimes, the food was off in varying amounts of taste, quality and/or portion. Our experiences became so bad that we stopped dining there altogether (which is how we discovered the amazing Linda's Casa Trejo in Yucaipa, but that's another review). However, we did come back and were reminded of why we loved the place to begin with. Like before, the service great, the staff friendly and the food delicious. We're glad we returned. read more

As I walked in I was greeted and seated within a couple of minutes. A friendly and sweet young woman (Lizzy) came over and took my order. She was knowledgeable about the menu and answered all my questions. I got my order within a reasonable time and everything was perfect. The food looked and tasted delicious. I enjoy coming here for the great food and all of the decorations. Every time I been here it has been relaxing and the noise level is minimal. Just went this morning to purchase 12 of their mini skipper breakfast burritos. I arrived and the burritos were ready and when I asked for salsa for my burritos, they said it's sold separately. Where else can you go order a burrito and it doesn't come with salsa. I wasn't asking for an abundance. I just wanted some for the burritos. Even Del taco gives you complementary salsa to put on your Mexican food. I spent $43 and they would not give me salsa. Bad customer service. Oscar's Mexican Restaurant in downtown Redlands, while may be small, is quite popular. I counted only 12 regular dining tables, but at 5:30 pm on a weekday, they were full. The staff was super attentive and readily explained the items on the menu. The food came out very quickly. I liked the QR code for reviewing their menu and the contactless payment process - high tech for such a small, independent restaurant. Parking in this area is tough, so be patient and plan accordingly. Something I hadn't seen before was their side dish of Oscar's Papas. You can see them on the right-hand side of the burrito dish (see my pic). These are diced potatoes with rancho sauce and cheese on top. The diced potatoes were a bit mushy with soaking up the rancho sauce but that was somewhat offset with the baked cheese on top - it was okay. This pic shows the burrito, on the left-side, with added sauce and cheese. These helped the burrito flavors greatly. Oscar's gives you a lot of meat in their burritos and tacos. While their meats were under seasoned, they were still moist and cooked well. The black beans were standard fare. The tacos were fairly large. The Carnitas and chicken were cooked well, but under seasoned. The hard taco shell was nice and crunchy. The soft taco shell was a bit firm and chewy on its rim. read more

The Chile verde enchiladas are amazing ! Oscar's is a staple in Redlands great service and food is always delicious and tasty !

Went here for father in law's birthday lunch and liked the location and interior so I had great expectations for the food. Expectations UNMET! Food was mediocre at best- burnt cheese on top of enchiladas and bland, inauthentic flavors. We ordered hongo (mushroom) tacos but received ground beef tacos. When it was mentioned to the waitress, she said she'd check with the chef who "confirmed" the tacos were mushroom. Anywho, $7.00 guacamole was basically smashed avocado with nothing else, not even salt! The veggie chimichanga was basically a flour tortilla with veggies inside= regular burrito. We ordered a chimichanga= fried burrito. The waitress needs to learn how to pronounce the food on the menu and learn what the items contain and how they're prepared. I asked her if the "pinto" beans were whole or refried, she said no and they're not allowed to call them refried beans. When we received the beans, they were also smashed- just like the guacamole. Our waitress needs to learn proper etiquette, hospitality and knowledge about food items. We didn't receive water refills, or offer for dessert. I had posole and it didn't have much flavor. I didn't take a picture of it but it was a very small portion for the price. My daughter had a cheese enchilada and said it was the best she ever had. Someone at our table had chiliquillas which I tasted and thought it was kid of bland but they eat basically the whole plate. My son had a burrito and fries which he eat all the fries and we all had some of his burrito that was good. We were sat back in the corner by the bar so the service was very slow considering they had the other side pretty full. It was very colorful inside and decorated accordingly. I went there with a group of friends and we get together once a month to try a new restaurant. Our service was very slow, but I think that she was just overwhelmed. She was doing her best and we left her a huge tip so she would know we completely understood We all loved what we ordered. I was thrilled to see a mini burrito because my sister and I both have very small appetites. I ordered the bean and cheese burrito with sauce, cheese and sour cream on top. It was perfect. The wine problem we all had was that the salsa was just too bland. We all would like more flavor, onion and cilantro. We will be back! read more

They are OPEN during COVID-19 Closures. Although their menu was a bit smaller than usual, it's not too far off from what they usually serve, from what I hear. I got two carne asada tacos and one carne asada burrito. Although their carne asada was a little different from what I had expected, the flavors were very familiar, friendly, and fun. I didn't have to worry about the tacos because their red sauce packed in the heat that numbed my mouth. The amount of onion and cilantro was delicious and I loved the beautiful blend of flavors in my mouth. It looked, tasted, and felt very authentic. The burrito was customize-able and I LOVED it. Taking out the beans, I added guacamole and onions and cilantro! It was delicious and I can't wait to go back to have more! What a fun food adventure, for sure! read more
