A pandemic can't stop Taco Tuesday! And this place has specials on chicken, ground beef, and carne asada options. The carne asada tacos are delicious--they really stand out and the flavors had us ordering more! While not discounted--but still tasty--are the grilled fish tacos. We love Oscar's!!! Not only have we been dining in and more recently, dining out(side), for years, but they came through huge for my daughters 2nd birthday! It was just a small family get together but I wanted to have plenty of food. We ordered 2 dozen of their tacos, 2 dozen of their skipper burritos, (came with chili verde, chicken and rice, and bean and cheese), 2 dozen cheese enchiladas, a big tray of beans, and chips & salsa! Everyone raved about the food and we had some nice leftovers!! They also color coded the wrappers on the Skippers to indicate what was inside each color. Great, friendly service and lovely food. Went to breakfast at Oscars Mexican Restaurant and was seated in a booth with a burnt out light. The cabinets, walls and carpet could use some paint and cleaning. The carpet is filthy to say the least. The service was very slow. We sat down and waited over 10 minutes before anyone came around. The food was surprising good considering the horrible condition of the inside of the building. Maybe the owner is going after the true Mexican environment of filth and disrepair or cleaning not to mention they have a "B" Rating that is hidden behind a painting on the glass where the rating should be clearly posted and yes this would have determined eating there or not i think the owner knowingly placed his "B" Rating where customers could not clearly see it thus hiding the condition of this Restaurants failure to properly keep the Restaurant within the guidelines of the health department. When we wanted to finally leave the waitress was no where to be found finally we got the check and waited forever for someone to pick it up and ring us out. Consider a different Restaurant if you desire a clean and comfortable environment with safe, good quality food and drinks. First time here and it was pretty good. There are definitely better places in the Redlands area, but if you're in downtown Redlands and looking for good Mexican food, check this place out. I ordered the veggie tamale, cheese enchilada and Oscar's papas (potatoes). The enchilada was good, no complaints. It wasn't great but it definitely wasn't bad either. The veggie tamale lacked flavor. I got corn meal and what was supposed to be veggies inside. They either put a tiny bit or they put a lot that it all just evaporated. The papas were really good. They have some sauce and cheese on it that make it tasty. I would definitely recommended getting this with your meal if it's a choice. The great thing about this place is that they have a vegetarian menu, which most Mexican places don't have. The employee are nice too. I'm noticing a lot of these hole in the wall Mexican places have older white ladies serving, which leads me to suspect they are married to the owner or something. Either way, it's better than having a young person serve you, imho. Older ladies are more polite, they serve with no malice. Younger one's, it's a hit or miss sometimes. My boyfriend and I went here as it was the only place we could park right by and easily get to. (My boyfriend is on crutches so it's hard for him to get around). This was our first time at this place. My wife and I were looking forward to trying it because of the great things we heard. When we got there, the gentleman that seated us was nice, got us waters and chips and offered thoughts on what was best. The waitress started out nice but things went downhill after she said she'd give us time to look over the menu......she never returned; so we got up and left. She spent the whole time talking to another table about being a full time student and being a full time employee. When my wife spoke to her about how rude she was, she gave attitude saying "well, you were looking over the menu, sooo" It's ridiculous to forget about a table, even more sad when it's due to your employee not doing their job. It's absurd that an employee has the nerve to be a smart ass when being called out on her unprofessionalism. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a great Mexican meal. I decided to have some wine but I also like water with my wine in between. when I asked for water the water was served it was all cloudy and hazy I then asked if it was tap water she said yes so I send it back no filters I decided not to eat here. Our office provided lunch for all of the staff this week... I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised as I not only got to have the food, but I was also the one who picked up the food. Each meal was individually packed with a taco, mini-burrito, flautas (I think), beans/rice with cheese and chipls and salsa. Lots of food for a VERY reasonable price. And the icing was that they carried it all to my car. For many years I resisted Oscar's from an incident that happened years ago. I do not understand why this restaurant doesn't have 5 stars. We were seated immediately, all the staff was attentive and friendly. The salsas were all amazing (if you like spicy, ask for the hottest green...omg DELISH) I ordered a Cadillac margarita COVID style which was 32 ounces with extra shots and It was amazing. Although the restaurant is cozy, the atmosphere is lovely and Sara and the amazing food and yummy strong drink turned a bad mood and long day into a very happy one. Delicious food! Incredibly efficient, effective and clean restaurant! We were greeted warmly by Kara right off the bat. The restaurant was bustling, but the precision in which we were seated quickly was extremely accommodating. Gaby our server was checking the level of our drinks to verify if refills were warranted. Kara brought out our food hot and delicious. Lastly, Michelle was amazing as she frequently checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Because of this we left feeling pampered. I felt like they forgot about it! I thought tipping would have avoided that, but I guess not. 20 minutes is not acceptable for to-go orders. I'm sure they are aware of the many businesses around them and the types of customers that frequent the downtown eateries. I wonder how many other folks have had the same experience. I was a bit disappointed because it seemed like they were more focused on the sit down orders. I had to ask for an update on my order. Worse still, the cooks were eating in the back in plain view of the customers! Service is attentive and prompt. Portion size are smaller than many other Mexican restaurants but I'm not complaining. We tend to be gluttonous. The food itself is average and will satisfy those who don't have knowledge or experience with authentic Mexican food.
