Being that Originals on Ave L is the pizza I grew up with, it is still my favorite slice that I often crave. I try to make it by at least once a year. (Honestly I'm not that far away I'm being dramatic) Most recently I stopped in for a slice (had 2) couldn't resist it was just as delicious as I remember. I also bought 3 tshirts ! Red punch too! So I'm walking up the block, and I notice that the local pizzeria has Santa Claus spray-painted on their storefront wearing a red MAGA hat that says "Make America Great Again," along with something mentioning "Zohran"--which I don't even know what that is. But my question is: when did politics start crossing paths with restaurants? I always thought businesses were supposed to remain neutral. I stopped going to that pizzeria even though I'd been going there since I was a young girl. The turning point was when I spoke to the owner and he openly told me he was voting for Trump because he didn't want the minimum wage to go up. He said he didn't want to pay his workers any more money. That disappointed me deeply. The way the world is right now--everything going up except our pay--you would think a business owner would want to take care of their employees. If you want people to work well, you have to treat them well. I was very disappointed in the pizzeria, in his attitude, and honestly surprised by his stance, especially with him also being a man. You would expect someone from a marginalized group to be sensitive to certain issues. But clearly, that wasn't the case. He will never get my business again. read more

What a peculiar establishment. They charge $4.25 (!) for one slice. A slice that is often very thin, but always dripping with oil. Last time (and I mean the LAST time) I was there, I was given napkins which I used to sop up the oil. Napkins with Trump on them, along with an adjacent QR code. Hmmm. Is that something people look forward to seeing when they go to a pizza place nowadays? Or any days? Doubt it. Keep your beliefs to yourself. Just. Make. Pizza. read more

Kinda disgusted with them TODAY. My son went and got some slices 2 were with sausage and two were supp osed to be veggie. Didn't like the presentation of the sausage and the veggie was not good at all. I stopped by here for lunch and ended up getting a couple of square slices. I thought they were ok and nothing great. The crust had a nice crunch to it. It's pizza but nothing special. Cash only. The place is clean and there is plenty of seating. read more

Tried to UberEats pizza one night since we didn't have cash, won't mention they're name, but we were left highly disappointed and upset. I vowed from that day to NEVER order pizza from anywhere else! This Pizza shop is a neighborhood staple. It's been around since my childhood. This is the go to pizza spot I'm Canarsie. There's metered parking available and it's accessible by MTA public transportation nearby. The service is quick they'll greet you and get your order right all the time. It's a family dinner business too. I usually get my pizza to go. The pizza is very good. The sauce is tasty and robust. My husband grew up eating this pizza as a child. We love returning for slices and reminiscing about his youth growing up in Canarasie. We have now taken both of our sons back whenever we return for a trip to explore the city. The neighborhood has changed but it's awesome to see this pizzeria thriving all these years. This is your neighborhood pizzeria with tons of history and a gem to those who grew up in the area. I LOVE pizza and this is Babes' favorite spot to order pizza from in Canarsie. So I'm a fan of the garlic knots and artificial "pineapple drink" which always hit the spot for me. Unfortunately, everything else isn't as consistently good. Solid slices with decent sauce and a good amount of cheese but always taste like they are missing something. If you are in the area, have extra cash to spare and want to seat down for a quick slice then definitely stop by. The service is prompt. Price point is on the high side for a pizzeria. Every time my travels bring me to Canarsie in Brooklyn I make it a point to stop by Original Pizza of Canarsie. It is by far the best pizza around. I hear of places that claim to have the best pizza and after I try them I realize nobody beats this place. But forget about the pizza for a minute, the Sicilian and the grandma slices are even better. They are both so good you can eat the whole pie. The Sicilian is flaky and crunchy and has the best crust I have ever had. Not the big wad of dough that you get in most places. Every time I come I'm torn between the two, so I have to get both. I can tell that they appreciate their customers and that they truly love what they do. Their customer service is a win EVERY time! I've only ever had the plain pizza and garlic knots here and they're very good. When it's right out of the oven the hot gooey cheese and crust is superb. It has the right amount of salt, and the sauce is tasty. This place beats a lot of the pizzerias in the city. Their service is also great as I sometimes order 10+ pies for work and they have it ready in 30 minutes. They also asked if I need plates and napkins and always provide plenty. Only thing is they don't like to take credit cards, so I need to make sure I have cash for 10+ pies. read more

So this is def the best pizza in Canarsie. I've been coming here for over 10 years. The slices have been pretty consistent. A tiny bit too oily for me but I still eat it. The garlic knots are yummy. They're always busy but the wait time isnt bad. Plenty of seats and tables to choose from if you want to dine in. read more

This place is cash only. I was in the neighborhood for the weekend and my friend told me about the chicken rolls here. Really tasty pockets of chicken parm+ cheese with good flavors. The prices and menu items they have online are not reflected in the store, so coming in, you might not get what you expect. Call ahead. I'll start off by giving woke Yelp 0 stars for not including this place when I typed in pizza. Instead leading me to another pizza shop that looked suspect. I asked the locals which led me here. Seems like I don't need yelp anymore. As far as Original Pizza, had a regular slice and a spinach roll. Both were excellent. Well prepared and fresh. Service was friendly and quick. Best pizza in canarsie. Penne a la vodka is really good too along with the grilled chicken ceasar salad. Always good service. I vome here about every other week. Only complaint is that its crazy expensive. But thats the price you pay for really good food. read more

Every time I go in there there is someone who has their mask under their nose. This is a year until the virus. One time a kid putting paper plates and napkins. And breathing on it all Another time a cook. And the manager stuck up and said they were 700 degree ovens. No. That is foods safety. The could be fine up to $1000. They need to cool down step outside. This is the coolest kitchen I have ever been in. And yes. I am a Culinary graduate. I am not going in their no matter how many years I have gone there. You can not speak to the owner. I know the owner will not be happy when he reads this. . So this is to you... the owner. Your manager should not be in customer service. And apparently he does not care about food safety. They also allow People in with no mask or mask under their nose. They must me. And they are slapping the face of first responders who are taking care of so many who do not wear their mask. Shame on this place a community restaurant. read more

The pizza here is sooooo good! Like seriously. I've been to this place a few times since I live in the area and I am always satisfied! My daughter loves the pizza from here too! They have pretty good customer service and they are usually really fast paced. When you walk through the door they acknowledge you immediately (which all places SHOULD do) and they like to get their customers in and out in a timely manner. I ordered two slices from here earlier this week and I was not disappointed! They also have all the toppings at the counter that you could think of. The only con I have is that the place does look a little dingy. Could use some new uniforms for the staff and some updates. read more

Pizza is inconsistent. Sometimes thick, other times so thin there are holes in it. Sometimes tasty, other times so greasy I have to soak up the oil with a napkin. Which I find extremely gross. And at $4 a slice, no longer the pizza place for my family. read more

Went here for my sons birthday . He wanted their buffalo pizza. We ordered 4 pies. This place is always busy. It is cash only . I read a review and it spoke about cards etc. Thats wrong they only do cash. Any way because I called the order in - it was ready quickly with in my arrival. The staff is friendly and nice. This pizza is worth the travel from queens to brooklyn. Yup that good . Also try the garlic knots or pepperoni rolls. You wont be disappointed. read more

One viewing of TMNT and he then becomes hooked! Go figure! In any case he used to be a one slice kind of guy. He's finally graduated to two slices! I love this kid! I had time to kill awaiting the arrival of a flight at JFK, so rather than sit in a cell phone lot, I pulled off the Belt and headed into Canarsie, Brooklyn. After a walkaround on Canarsie Pier, I headed into town looking for some real Brooklyn pizza. Original Pizza was nearby on Avenue L, and I found a parking space almost directly in front. It was a pretty big place with plenty of sitting room and a large working kitchen behind the glass counter. I ordered two plain slices and a Cherry Coke and waited for the reheat to be ready. The slices were large with an excess of mozza oozing over the edges. The crust was firm and crunchy, although not overly tasty. There was a constant oil drip from overuse of an olive oil finish and the sweating cheese. It wasn't the best introduction to the home of the pizza pie, although it was good enough for a local parlor in the neighborhood. Perhaps a freshly made pie would showcase their talent more than a 2 slice and drink special, but this was a cornerstone of their menu, and should represent their core competence in pizza making. Don't let pies sit around for hours, and the result could be improved. Staff was fine. Place was clean enough. Price was about right @ $6.50 for the meal. Wouldn't hurry back. Loved the double parking thing. That thing could get ugly. read more

I must admit is the best pizza you will ever eat in NYC. I just don't get is the sauce or the cheese. Is hard to pick, because the combination taste sooooooo good! Sorry Joe's, but this is on par with your pizza (if it was frozen). Dave Portnoy was right with his high review. This pizza is very good. The thick cut pepperoni, great basil, and the crisp chewy crust was excellent for a frozen pizza. Nice under carriage as well. I cooked the pizza at 480 degrees in an electric pizza oven for 10 minutes, and the result was very good. I added a drizzle of hot honey, and it was spectacular (okay, I also added some fresh picked jalapeños as well). The pizza was hot and melted in the center, and the crust was very crisp, but still had some chew. Wow. This was the best frozen pizza I have had. Bar none. New York, you spoiled me when it came to pizza. Now I can get a taste of New York at home. Great job! I may or may not eat the last 3 pieces currently sitting in the fridge before bed.

He would pull the pans with his bear hand out of the oven and generously drizzle olive oil from a rustic copper container over every pie. He would then meticulously inspect the dough for bubbles. Then pop back in the oven for the imported olive oil to permeate and create a beautiful glistening coat. And once cooked he would then graciously cut basil on top of the pie. Dom has now passed but his legacy continues. I've always compared the then pie vs now. And like most things,, nothing beats the original. This is still a very good slice. I once rated them as the best in NYC. Unfortunately, its not at the very top but still on the podium. Coming back feels like you are saying hello to an old friend. If you haven't been, you have to try at least once.

Many pizzas do not reheat well due to rubbish cheese- not L&B- pop it in the oven around 400°F, and let it crisp back up! Also- the Spumoni- it keeps at a nice consistency in the freezer, unlike rubbish American ice cream- which gets like a rock. The only other Spumoni I buy is from Corona. They're both phenomenal in their respective rights. When asked by non-NY'ers which pizza is my favourite- this is number one for Sicilian- not heavy at all. The crust is light, airy, and flavourful. The cheese to sauce ratio is perfect- not swimming in greasy cheap cheese. I have the same standards for Neapolitan Pizza. We can discuss that elsewhere. Please never close shop- at least let's celebrate the centenary!
