She reported that it was really good, so apparently the omelette and her are on better terms than I was with this place years ago. I went with the Mexican Skillet. I like my food to have some texture and, preferably, a little crunch, so our waitress, Sandy, recommended having the home fries deep-fried. Naturally, I accepted this challenge. The result was...interesting. The potatoes were definitely crispy, but somewhere along the way my brain stopped registering them as breakfast potatoes and started interpreting them as potato chips that had somehow wandered into my skillet. It messed with my breakfast senses a little. Sandy even admitted the potatoes are not always consistent, which I appreciated. At least we were all being honest about the potato situation. The chorizo was good, although it leaned more toward an Americanized version than the deeply seasoned, distinctly Mexican chorizo I was expecting. Still enjoyable, just a different flavor profile than anticipated. Overall, though, the meal was good, and there are several other things on the menu that caught my attention. That is usually the best indicator that we will be back: when I leave already knowing what I want to order next time. And now, Sandy deserves her own paragraph. She was wonderful. Sweet, personable, clearly hardworking, and attentive without hovering over us like she was conducting a federally funded breakfast surveillance operation. She checked on us an appropriate number of times, was helpful with recommendations, and genuinely seemed to care about our experience. So, after giving this place a second chance, I would say the verdict is: The past has officially been forgiven. The food was good, the service was even better, and there is enough on the menu to warrant another visit. Sometimes restaurants deserve a second chance and apparently, so do breakfast potatoes.

Boy was I wrong. The exterior looks the same except they added some new signage. Upon entering the restaurant I was shocked at how everything changed. It went from a country type atmosphere to a stale almost Asian kitchen? I was nervous because I wanted biscuits and gravy and this place looked like I would have to order dumplings instead. I did see a sign inside that still said "Biscuits".... So even though we were apprehensive, I still decided to sit to eat because I remembered how good their biscuits and gravy were. If you have been here, you would know the interior walls are circular not straight, so the new tables they had connected to the walls made it so the seats were angled which made you super close to the table at one end and then far from the table closer to the wall. Not comfortable at all. We were greeted by a very nice server and I proceeded to ask her what happened to this place?! And in the kindest way she stated about 9 months ago it's under new ownership and that they will eventually be turning it into like an Asian fusion at night offering Asian food at that time. In my honest (business minded) opinion, this was the worse choice anyone could have done with this place. They are removing the exact things that people liked to come here for (food/recipes/decor/concept). If they have new ownership and want to change it to an Asian fusion restaurant, they need a new name, new branding... all of it. If the owners are reading this, you need to research the following terms: Brand Promise (and breaking it), Brand Equity and Brand Harvesting (or milking the brand). Once you understand these marketing concepts you'll understand your brand and marketing will need a complete overhaul and refresh. This place will unfortunately struggle to survive until these changes are made. Back to my review. I ordered my favorite biscuits and gravy as that's what I wanted to come here for. My friend got a breakfast sandwich and said it was just "okay nothing to run home about" and "you can't really mess up a breakfast sandwich". The (who I think was) owner came to take our plates and he saw my plate just about full and he offered for a to go container and I said no thank you I couldn't even eat it I don't like it. He said "oh..." the server came and said did you want a discount? I'm like who asks that? Of course? It should just be offered? But I responded well sure of course... so she came back and there was a $2 discount. I laughed. I 100% won't be coming back. I miss the old owners. I miss the old recipes. I miss the biscuits and gravy. I miss the old atmosphere. But unfortunately I will be making the extra drive and going to my favorite Crackers & Co. I hope the new owners take into consideration what my review has said. Either go all in on biscuits and cut the Asian fusion, hire an chef that make authentic gravy similar to how it was made before or cut out the country breakfast all together and get a full rebrand and dive into Asian fusion. We don't have very many Asian fusion places so if you do pivot, I think that's where your sweet spot would be.
