It has been a little under a year since my last review, but when I come across a restaurant so remarkable, unique, and delicious, I must share my experience.
First, let me speak to the service. The service my wife and I received was first class and on par with the high end restaurants I've eaten at. Our waitress, Brittnay, was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We were also visited by the owners during our meal and it was clear by talking with them, they care deeply about their business and their customers. This kind of service, sadly, is a rare find in restaurants nowadays, but added to the magic of the experience.
Next, the food. My wife and I ordered a wide variety of food to get the sense for the restaurant. We started our meal with the Ma La dumplings and an egg roll. Both were excellent, especially the dumplings. The dough was velvety and light, yet robust enough to hold a large amount of tender, juicy pork and shrimp. The mala Sichuan sauce served on top was spicy, yet not overpowering. Well balanced and delicious. Also made fresh in house!!
We also had the wonton soup and egg drop soup. Now, I normally don't get soup, but my coworker highly recommended it. Oriental Wok did not disappoint. Both soups were delicious and went down too quickly. Simple, yet the high quality of the ingredients was apparent and welcome.
Now the main event; the entrees. My wife and I shared a Beijing Pork (similar to a sweet and sour pork), General Wongs Chicken, and Beef Lo Mein. All three were AMAZING!! Like the soups, the quality of the ingredients is second to none. The meat was juicy and the veggies were crisp and tender. I was especially impressed with the Beijing Pork (a relatively new menu item). It is baffling to me that they were able to fry the pork (a tough meat in its own right) in a way that the coating is crispy, but the pork juicy and cooked to perfection.
Lastly, I will say the amount of detail they take in the experience is the most remarkable to me. For example, Oriental Wok gives small portions of rice (and will refill your portion) with the meal so you always have fresh rice. The staff/owners knew my wife and I were on a date and gave my wife a heart plate and gave us a tasty raspberry creme cocktail with our dessert. Everyone made sure to go the extra mile to make sure our date was memorable and perfect even to the last detail.
All in all, this hit and exceeded the mark in all aspects possible. Taste; incredible. Service; elite. Presentation; beautiful. My wife and I will absolutely be back to dine and I highly recommend and welcome everyone to try not just the best Chinese restaurant in Cincinnati, but perhaps the best restaurant in the city! A huge thank you to the Wong family for welcoming my wife and I to your restaurant and we look forward to dining with you again! read more
