My wife and I buy a Milwaukee City Tin every year. The Tin we purchased focusses on Milwaukee restaurants owned by people of color. On Sunday, we went to a restaurant called Orenda Cafe located on 35th & National. This place was a pleasant surprise, my wife ordered the salmon and egg platter which was according to her very good. I ordered the carnivore omelette. I added spinach and caramelized onions, the omelette was huge and quite good. This is definitely a restaurant that I recommend. read more

Why there isn't a crazy long line out the door on weekends, I don't know. This place is amazing! $5 Bloody Mary's, full sized with a chaser, choice of 4-5 different kinds. I had the pork belly eggs Benedict, my wife had a carnitas, jalapeño and avocado omelet. My dish included hashbrowns, hers included fruit and pancakes. Everything was so good. Great experience! My friends and I had brunch there for our first time at this establishment, and the food was exceptional! It was different from a typical brunch menu, as they applied a unique touch (I believe Latin) to the menu. The food was hearty but not greasy, and we left feeling very full. Was there today for a birthday breakfast. The service was excellent. The atmosphere is great for families, brunch dates, etc. I ordered the Salmon and eggs and let me tell you it was delicious. Sorry no pics this round. I will be visiting again and hopefully will get pics. I ordered the painkiller as a cocktail :) It was a celebration! I definitely recommend you try this restaurant out. My husband and I went here for brunch last weekend and were pleasantly surprised. It's in sort of an obscure spot, but it nice on the inside with a full bar, window stools, tables and booths on the inside. Our server was lovely and came to check on us a few times during our meal. I wanted the spicy bloody, but she recommended combining the spicy bloody with the garlic infused bloody and it did not disappoint. It was served with a Modelo chaser, which was nice. I ordered what I would consider a standard breakfast of eggs, toast, ham and hashbrowns, while my husband ordered the steak and eggs with a side of pancakes topped with bananas. The portion sizes were good and the eggs were nicely cooked. Everything in fact was delicious. I would definitely return here and explore more of their menu. read more

Super cute and new restaurant. The menu, the menu is huge. I love how much variety of food there is to choose from. Literally as someone who does not eat or have many options at usual brunch spots I felt like I had a variety of choices to make. I came here via a Yelp event and the restaurant was rather empty around 2pm. The host welcomed us as we arrived and we did not need a reservation and had our choice of seating. The lighting here is very nice as well. I had a chimichanga and it was a good portion size for 1 person. Tech comes as 3 small ones and I felt that 2 would've been enough for me. The salsa I didn't remember being a highlight but I def used all of it. The drinks here are very nice. I had a Serrano Margarita and it was just spicy enough without being overpowering. They have daily happy hour special as well so it makes me excited to go back for a drink during their happy hour. Parking is a little dicey as it's just street parking which is a downside. read more

How have I not reviewed this gem yet??? I have been several times and it is such a great little spot. The flavors are all super fresh and the staff is really friendly. Parking can be a bit tough but definitely worth it. There is a huge variety sure to please anyone you bring - sweet or savory people have so many options. I have never had the same thing twice. The interior is both clean and cozy - an easy spot to spend time with friends and catch up. The booths feel private but it is easy to get the attention of the wait staff if you need anything, and I have never felt rushed at the end of a meal. I came to Orenda cafe today for a light lunch. I ordered the chimichangas, chilaquiles, and a mimosa. Funny enough, I meet about 4 Yelp Elite colleagues today. We all had the same idea. Great minds, they say.... The cafe has a cute vibe to it. The color scheme is gold and turquoise. The cafe is very quiet and a great place for conversation over a good meal. I started with the chicken chimichangas. The chimichanga was very well fried. It had a good crunch to it. The chicken was very juicy. I will warn you that you should eat the chimichangas OVER your plate because you will get the juice on your jeans if you don't. Next, the chilaquiles. The chilaquiles were good! Just enough crunch! Orenda Cafe is a new breakfast/brunch/lunch spot in Silver City, just off 35th and National. We had been seeing good reviews so decided to check it out for Sunday breakfast. Menu wise, you'll find interesting spins on classic dishes like s'mores French toast or an avocado mango toast. There are many dishes that have a Mexican flair, along with burgers and sandwiches for lunch. They recently added brunch drinks and cocktails too! The interior is very pretty - decorated in restful blues with comfortable booths and chairs. Service was super pleasant (but I think they're figuring out their groove a little, nothing wrong with that). The Mister went with steak & eggs ($11) which comes with potatoes (you can get bacon hash & you should!) and toast or a pancake. That's a lot of food! He liked his meal, especially the bacon hash. I opted for the carnitas hash ($12) which comes with two poached eggs. My hash had a super interesting, tasty mix of veggies - spinach, roasted cauliflower (yes please!! I could have eaten a whole plate of just that), radishes and peppers. My pork was fall apart tender but had some kind of sweet marinade on it that I didn't 100% love. Some pieces were stronger than others so YMMV but overall, I liked it. Other things to know - they serve Anodyne coffee - yay! And local, delicious Urbal Iced Tea - today's was strawberry lemon & it may have been one of the best iced teas I've had in a restaurant. We love Silver City and Orenda is a great addition to an already exciting food neighborhood. Everything on the menu looks great so we had to go two weekends in a row to enjoy brunch options! I got the Carnita con Huevo and it made my husband jealous so we returned next weekend so he could enjoy it. The pork was very tender and flavorful! I particularly enjoyed the salsa, it would have been good with anything but really brought the whole dish together. And our waiter gave me the option of the bell pepper hash or the bacon hash - over two weekends I had both. You can't go wrong with Orenda's hash! On our first visit my husband got the Jack Fire French toast. It was great, his reverts merely stemmed from the eternal sweet v. Savory brunch debate. Both weekends we had friendly service and it was great to see the place bustling with a diverse array of folks that represent the awesome Silver City neighborhood it calls home! I stumbled on this place a couple days ago and saw that they open at 6 am for breakfast so I had to stop by because I have been to most of the early breakfast places around and a new one is definitely getting a Steve stop by. Parking is easy on the street in the early hours so that was nice but it's metered. At 6:45 on a Sunday I was the first customer and the place was empty which I thought was weird until I found out that the official grand opening was the next day. The place is very nice with a bar, window seating, tables, booths and a long bench with tables. My server Bethania did an outstanding job taking care of me while I had breakfast and was the reason for the fifth star, she even gave me a complimentary cup of Anodyne Coffee to take with me which got her a 50% tip. I absolutely love the menu because it has a Mexican base but branches out into modern eclectic dishes is the only way for me to describe it. Who ever thought this menu up did a great job even though it's only two pages it has some interesting options. Breakfast was tough but the Silver city omelette won with baby spinach, goat cheese, carmelized onions and diced pork belly with a red salsa. The omelette comes with a choice of toast and potatoes so I opted for the multi grain toast and house potatoes. The house potatoes were very good, Obrien potatoes actually that were cooked perfectly with a little crunch left in the peppers/onions and golden. The multi grain toast was a good quality bread which I liked. The red salsa was tasty with a garlic flavor that complemented the omelette very well. The omelette was amazing, cooked perfectly with fluffy eggs and filled generously with the fresh baby spinach and goat cheese, that's Fuc#ing delicious. I don't loosely give out five stars but with the unique menu, fresh quality ingredients, tasty food, nice decor and great service they earned it. As far as breakfast goes, if you want something more than a traditional American breakfast than give them a try. What a great addition to the Milwaukee food scene and I can't wait to try more of the menu, good job. Lucky to have found this brunch restaurant while it is still up and coming. There was no crowd so no waiting and was seated immediately. Cozy and stylish interior with booth and table seating. They have mimosa deal on the weekend and drink deals during the week. I tried several entrees from chocolate pancakes to egg dish and avocado toast. The staff was friendly and speedy. Wooh, what a little gem in Silver City! Went for brunch on a Sunday, and it was refreshing to have no wait time! Although with all the excellent reviews, that will likely change. The interior is clean and calming with tons of sunlight pouring in from the south. I ordered the Smoked Chicken & Poblano Skillet, a crossover of a Benedict and hash. The Swiss cheese pull was crazy long and flavors complimented each other nicely. My friend got the Serrano Garlic Pork Belly and I had some buyer's remorse. The cous cous paired surprisingly well as a non standard breakfast starch. And there were great bites with the acidic vegetables, so good! The S'mores French Toast was also first-rate. Crunchy but smooth and who doesn't like Nutella?! The menu is wide-ranging, speckled with Hispanic influences. And prices are very reasonable! Food is terrific. Service is typically very good, but this happened while dining on a Sunday. Orenda is open until 3:00pm, at 2:30pm staff began stacking the chairs on top of the tables, flipping the barstools up on the bar and cleaning. At this point attention to the remaining customers stopped. After several minutes waiting to an employee to pass by, I had to go search for someone for a to-go box and ask for the check. There were four other diners still in the restaurant and the table next us commented that it appears they want us to leave, I replied, nothing screams "Get out" like staff closing down the place while people are still eating. Dining should be an experience, what I got today was an experience, not a good one. read more

I visited Orenda Cafe for the first time this morning and loved the food, drinks, & atmosphere! It is clearly a popular spot because for my party of two we were there for almost two hours due to wait time. That's the only reason I give them a four stars is because of the wait but the entire staff was lovely in checking in with us to let us know when we'd be getting sat or getting our food. I got to try their specialty drink today of a Watermelon Margarita & if you are ever visiting when they are serving it you absolutely need to try it! Not pictured because I was too excited to eat, but the Pecan Caramel Cakes were absolutely delicious with candied pecans throughout the pancake and on top! I highly recommend both! So, so good. Go here now. We came with a group of 6 for brunch on Sunday. There was no wait and we were seated immediately. The restaurant is newly remodeled and is bright and spacious. Servers are very friendly and prompt. The food! They have a wide selection of breakfast and lunch foods as well as a cocktail list - including bottomless mimosas! I got the carnita hash which was super flavorful and not spicy at all (a bonus for me but if you want spicy, there are plenty of options). Others at our table got the smoke chicken & poblano skillet - apparently very spicy and also very delicious - the very berry cakes, and orenda's breakfast bowl. Not one person was disappointed. I made breakfast plans with a friend for Saturday, but all the usual suspects (e.g. Blue's, Mad Rooster, etc) had wait times longer than we cared to wait. So we decided on Orenda, enticed by decent online reviews, central location and, of course, lack of a wait (we called ahead). Getting there took no time at all and parking was a breeze. Ample seating within. Lovely, tasteful decorations throughout. Quick, friendly service. Our food came out whip fast and everything was absolutely delicious. I ordered the pork belly chilaquiles and my friend ordered the pork belly benedict. The chilaquiles consists of a generous mound of tortilla chips with a chunky red sauce, eggs on top, a dollop of avocado crema and some of the most tender, fall-apart pork belly I've ever had. I also ordered a side of potatoes and those were excellent - nice flavor and generous portion. My friend really enjoyed her dish too! Our bill came out to $25, which was an insane value for the caliber (and quantity) of food we ate. I love that this place is still sort of a secret, though I know it won't be long before people begin flocking to Silver City to see what Orenda's all about. Hands down my new favorite brunch spot. I can't say enough good things about our experience. Orenda is new, and luckily for us, word hasn't gotten out yet, so we were seated immediately. The interior is bright, airy, and overall just comfortable and homey. The menu is fantastic. There is such a variety of items--truly something for everyone. I had a heck of a time trying to choose. I ended up going with the the carnitas hash. FANTASTIC. The carnitas was flavorful and juicy. The plate contained cauliflower, greens, pecans, onions, radish, and potatoes, topped with two perfectly poached eggs. I was surprised that the cauliflower and pecans worked as well as they did. Others at my table ordered the s'mores French toast (a little on the sweet side, but good nonetheless), the jacks fire French toast (herb butter, pecans, apple compote and a side of bacon hash) and the poblano chicken skillet (similar setup as the hash I ordered, and SO GOOD). We all agreed that not one item at our table was less than wonderful, and we can't wait to return. Make sure you get in here before word gets out, because it won't be long! Visited here on the recommendation of a friend who said it was good... they lied. It was AMAZING! The inside looked cozy and inviting, waitress was very friendly, and the food. Was. To die. For. I was torn between ordering the pork belly Benedict or the carnitas hash (yes, I'm obsessed with pork) and the waitress recommended the carnitas hash, saying it was one of her favorites. Well, I can see why. It was so flavorful. The pork was tender and juicy, the spinach was cooked perfectly, the potatoes were delicious, and the toasted pecans on top just tied it all together very nicely. It came with a side of 2 pancakes that were very tasty as well. Easily one of my favorite breakfast meals I've had in Milwaukee since I've been here. I purposefully saved half of my meal just to enjoy it at home later, but I ended up forgetting my to-go box on the table when I left, and I've never been so heartbroken in my life!!!
