You ever sit back and realize a couple years too late, that you took something essential for granted? This was me a couple weeks ago, as I squinted through overly dry eyes through my pitiful glasses. My moment had come, I tried to hold off my date with the optometrist for far too many years. Here I was 30 something and holding my cell phone too close to my face, so that it often dropped and would hit me square in the face! Needless to say my laxidaisy attitude was shifted into over-drive! After a week of reading through my trusty google and yelp reviews I finally settled on one optometrist, in the midst of many in Irvine. I headed into Optometry Corner, still wary that perhaps the online gods had forsaken me in trickery, though as soon as I started my first questions with the front desk personnel, they quickly put me at ease and answered all my naive and redundant questions. This easy flow, followed me into my appointment with Dr.Lui! Dr. Lui and his assistant walked me through each new eye test(there were 2 new tests or ways to do them, since I had avoided this appointment for years). I'm a talkie kinda gal and asked a ton of questions and all were met with answers, patience and smiles! I felt so at ease I even decided to get my Cornea tested for a possible future lasik procedure(so I can avoid the optometrist more lol). Dr. Lui explained the changes in my eye sight and laid to rest all fears in regards to the future of my eyeballs. I gota say, for someone who dreads the doctor in all areas of their expertise, this was a painless experience and I was all the better for it! With the hard part that wasn't so difficult over, my only problem was to decide on some new cool frames for my peepers...did I mention they have a huuge selection of frames! I came to Optometry Corner with my girlfriend to get our annual eye exams. It's located in the same plaza as Zion Market and Northwood Pizza. Making an appointment was painless and hassle free! I was able to call in and got a same-day appointment. The staff was able to quickly check my EyeMed Vision Insurance eligibility over the phone. I got some really nice Carrera glasses from their large selection of frames. Above all, Dr.Lui was amazing! He took the time to get to know me and understand my eye care needs. Since moving to a new city, I decided that I wanted to find a new optometrist near my home. I brought my husband with me to try out this new place and both of us left feeling pretty amazed at how our experience was here. Dr. Liu was very personable, friendly, informative, and it felt as though you were just talking to a close friend. Came in to replace prescription sunglasses that I ended up not liking. Cecilia helped me. She brought over 2 sunglasses for me to try on first. I tried several pair afterwards, but ended up choosing one of the first two options. She is the best! I have never experienced anyone who was so excellent at finding the right pair for my face. She seriously knows what she is doing and is so very pleasant to work with. I totally recommend going on a Wednesday if you need glasses and ask for her. She is awesome! read more

On top of that, as soon as you are done with your exam the lovely ladies in the front are so kind and helpful when selecting glasses.They have so many styles and brands to choose from, but the opticians do an amazing job picking the best frames for your face. Shady. I needed a new Rx for gas permeable contact lenses, and receptionist made an appointment for me with the optometrist who is only at this office once a week but is very experienced in RGP lenses. During the exam, he informed me that my prescription only changed minimally, if at all. Then I waited for a lengthy time for him to write out the prescription - if he already knew the measurements at the time of the exam, it shouldn'tve taken so long to write. Presumably they were hoping I would find glasses to purchase while waiting around in the waiting area. I was then charged a high exam fee despite having insurance (I've paid less without insurance), and was told it would cost $300+ for the RGP lenses. I declined, and later ordered the lenses elsewhere for $75! After leaving the office, I noticed that the prescription written was a full 1.0 difference from my old prescription. Not minimal, as I was told during the exam. In addition, the signature on the Rx was the OTHER optometrist who works in that office, who wasn't even there that day! I now have new contact lenses that are worse and less comfortable than my old ones. It's been a couple months and I don't even want to go back and ask for a corrected Rx because I don't trust their practices. Honest mistakes can occur, but all this adds up to duplicity. read more

The staff got my insurance over the phone and had the details of my plan ready when I got there. I was the last patient on a Saturday and Dr. Lui took his time to explain everything to me. They have brand new machines that map your eyes and I had never seen that at my old optometrist's office. It's just really really cool to see the inside of your eye and Dr. Lui took his time to show me how to read the 3D map of the inside of my eyes! His technician also explained each step of the testing process. It's nice to be informed. I ended up getting new lenses on my old frames and contacts. My wife needed new pair of glasses so we stopped by Optometry Corner by walk-in. Even though it was Saturday and close to closing time, Dr. Lui took his time to walk us through the process and explain our insurance benefits. They had pretty sizable selection of frames to choose from. Once we picked one we liked, Dr. Lui went through different options for lenses and was able to tell us how much would cost us out-of-pocket for each. Finally writing a review! Heads up that I went a few months ago so some of my details may be fuzzy, but the good impression is definitely still there. I went to Optometry Corner because I needed an annual eye exam, and after moving back to California, it was very close to where I live (in one of the new-ish East Irvine villages with nothing but other houses near it, and, apparently, Optometry Corner). It's behind the Chase in the Zion Market plaza, and overall is a very organized and friendly place. Scheduling was easy; I was able to call, schedule, and come in as a new patient without having to wait for weeks to get an appointment or anything. I was seen by Dr. Lui, who was very kind and attentive, and just the right amount of talkative to make the whole "number 6 or number 7" routine a little less boring. If you are seen by him he might look young, but he conducted himself with the utmost professionalism and seemed very knowledgeable. He also made sure to explain the changes in my prescription compared to what I had last year, which for me is usually important because it seemed to always be getting worse bit by bit, much to my dismay. I went home with a free pair of contacts; I think they wanted me to be able to try for myself and make sure that what I had fit my eyes comfortably (since I had astigmatism and needed toric lenses). I think they also didn't have my actual prescription immediately in stock so they gave me a just slightly different prescription (not different enough to make me blind or give me eye strain of course) so that at least I would have contacts until they did get an order of the right prescription for me. In any case, it worked out, and I really appreciated their honesty and care. I then went out to the office to update my glasses prescription (and fashion). I unfortunately don't remember the name of the woman who was helping me, but she was polite and friendly. She gave me plenty of space to pick out which frames I liked. I was right in the middle of picking out some good ones when my father called and asked me to hold off on buying frames because of something with our VSP benefits. Nevertheless, the lady who was helping me with the glasses was very understanding despite me essentially wasting some of her time, and she made a note for which frames I had already picked out in case I returned. Dr. Lui did encourage me to write a Yelp review, but I didn't feel pressured to do so. He explained that he was hoping to increase their online presence, and that if I honestly felt they did a good job and was was willing to return, I could help them out by giving them the thumbs up on Yelp. Well, I will definitely be returning for my next annual eye exam, so here we are! read more

First and foremost, parking was simple and accessible. The practice itself was not difficult to find. I was greeted warmly by the staff and Dr. Lui himself. The process of being seen was run extremely efficiently, and I felt that I did not have to waste any time waiting around for the staff to get their stuff together. All of my questions were addressed and answered, and I felt that Dr. Lui was able to convey his knowledge of optometry in a way that I could understand. They even helped me sort through my insurances to figure out how I could save the most amount of money. I can't say enough about the doctors and the staff at Optometry Corner. I have been using them as my optometrist for two years now. I first tried them out because I wanted to switch from glasses to contacts. Their office manager Holly, who is a friend of mine suggested I come in to see if they could help me because the other doctor I had was to expensive, and very far away. It took some experimentation with different contacts to find the ones that allowed me to see far away and also easily read my computer screen. They worked well until my prescription just recently changed again. This time it was a lot harder to find a prescription that worked because I am in between strengths. Dr. Gilbert and Dr. Lui worked very patiently with me to get the best contacts with my new prescription. Even though I was getting frustrated because my eye sight had changed and it was not as easy to fit as the first time, they were professional, caring and extremely patient. Holly and Cecelia are always happy to see you when you come in, and Dr. Gilbert and Dr. Lui go above and beyond to not only fix your vision, but they are genuinely nice people who care about their patients. When your vision changes, it can be very frustrating, but rest assured this business is here to help. I would give them 10 stars if I could. read more
