The price for the contacts exam was the most affordable I found around the area and it included many follow up appointments since it took me a while to adjust to the new formula. I saw dr ALEXANDER last week for eye examination. It was the worst experience I've had from Optimum Eye Care, n I've had few bad experiences in the past. When I went into the room n sat down he gave me a dirty look. But I just brushed it off. I had to reschedule my appointment bc I needed to get one eye dilated n I didn't have a ride to go back home. I can't commute if I get my eye dilated. So when we both agreed to reschedule for Wednesday, I asked what time that's when he yelled at me. He said double check at the front. I couldn't believe it. Am I experiencing racism? Wtf! So I just left the room , told the front desk girl what just happened. She apologized for the mistreatment from Dr ALEXANDER. I've been with this company for years. They just lost a loyal customer. I def dnt recommend this place. read more

Horrible experience! Although I paid extra for anti-scratching, one of the lenses was still scuffed when it fell on the floor. That's fine; it happens. I went back to get it replaced to be told it would take a week. I returned 8 days later only for them to tell me they were not available yet. It'll be another week. Not ideal as I work in tech and really needed my glasses. I returned two more times. A one-week process was now over a month. On top of that, no one seemed to be coordinated. Wow I cannot say good enough things about this optometrist office! I have been having trouble getting the right prescription for my glasses for the past 6 months and I was at this office for literally 20 minutes and I got the correct prescription I needed. They were on time I didn't have to wait at all. The office is very clean and organized and they also sell high end designer frames! BE CAREFUL. I came here on the great reviews on Yelp, and because this place took my insurance. But I wish I had listened to my gut when I got there. Dr. Vu gave me an exam for glasses and also a short exam on my eyes. She concluded that I may have Glaucoma and recommend further tests. After asking about the disease and treatments, she told me that there really was no cure, but only eye drops that would have to be sustained for my entire life if I had it. So I thought, well if I have it, and nothing can be done, why should I even bother with further exams? She convinced me that it would be a good idea anyways, in case I needed the aforementioned eye drop treatment, also that my insurance would cover the follow up exam. She was very insistent on this follow up also making it seem like her license to practice was on the line. Anyways, I went to the appointment and it was concluded that I didn't have Glaucoma. Great. I leave, come back a couple weeks later to pick up my glasses. And then HERE'S THE SHADY PART: I get a call from the office a month later and the receptionist tells me I owe some $150 for the exam. After having a long discussion with her about what the doctor had told me, pushing for the exam and also having it covered under my insurance she decided to 'call me back'. I haven't heard from them since. What's shady was the way the receptionist told me how I owed money. Apparently the office 'paid for my deductible' and I owed the balance of $150, which was quickly lowered to $100 after some "WHAT?" and "WHY?"s over the phone. How does the optometrist pay for MY deductible? Does that make any sense at all? I don't think so. I went through that same thought process with the receptionist, and I think even she didn't know WTF she was talking about. Get your story straight before calling your clients. read more

I believe this shop used to be called Cosmos Eye Care, was sold to the present owners and renamed Optimum Eye Care. I am a highly satisfied customer. Not only do the opticians provide excellent care, not only is the entire staff and operation free of hustle and red tape, but they couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Just for example, most recently I went in to get an eye exam, new contacts, and new glasses. Besides the always very pleasant Dr. Vu giving me an exam and telling me what to expect as I have just passed the magical age of 40, both doctor and staff asked me if I wanted to apply my insurance to pay for either my contact lenses or my glasses. I originally answered 'contact lenses' thinking I could get eight boxes of toric disposable lenses for only my deductible out of pocket, but the staff person actually kept my answer in mind and the next time I came in presented the math that showed that I would save literally hundreds of dollars out of pocket if I applied the insurance to the glasses instead. So they actually saved me a lot of money--yet again--without selling me some crappy bargain alternative or alternatively hustling me into a more expensive option. Another time they called me while I was on the train home from a long commute to say they needed to take a certain measurement to complete my order, and they actually waited for me, past closing time, so that I could run over there and get it done then instead of having to wait for the weekend and delaying my order by perhaps another week. At Optimum Eye Care I really get the kind of treatment a paying customer deserves--in fact I receive better. They are extremely friendly and courteous. And as a professional in the Insurance industry, I really appreciate that I don't have to study up on my coverage in order to make sure it is handled properly as have literally at every other optician I've ever been to in the past. I thought I was the only one who got scammed by these scumbags. I had an eye check once and a pair of glasses couple of years ago. The exam was QUICK! I don't know why and the pair of glasses they gave me was horrible and my vision got worse until I visited another doctor who told me the glasses were bad. They weren't as I asked and paid for. But the worst, these guys kept charging my insurance every year after ... I just opened a fraud claim that's being investigated now. I see that everybody in the review has the same issue. I felt compelled to write a review because this place should go out of business immediately. I am willing to put up with the normal amount of incompetence, but it is apparent that this place optimum (ironic name) is the zenith of ineptitude. Not only they have no idea how deal with insurance, blatantly lie about things like what constitutes a six month supply, and overcharge for everything, they can't handle simple tasks. Specifically, I simply called to order contacts but was told their system was down and to call back a couple of days later. What is confusing is that before saying the system was down, they asked for my full name. Why ask for it if you cannot search? Also you still have physical files, no? Get off you ass and look at the god damn file! Okay, whatever. So I call back again and the same issues come up, but this time they take down my prescription and say they will order the contacts, which will be available in a less than a week. No one calls (of course). So, I call them up and inquire as to status. No indication is given as to what the issue is, instead they ask for a call back number and hang up. So.....wtf. I used to really love this place. Not so much any more. The last time I went was last April (17 months! and I'm still upset about it!). They told my husband and I that they "didn't work with our insurance" (aetna), and we needed to pay the $40 coinsurance for the eyemed, the eyecare benefit that works with our aetna. So we did. We wanted to use the $150 aetna gives us for vision supplies to buy contacts, but they said we would have to buy them and then get reimbursed by aetna. Okay, will do. We went through all that rigamarole while I was 8 month pregnant (BIG!) because I wanted to get some cute glasses to wear while at the hospital. (Thanks Warby Parker!!) THEN, I get the EOBs from aetna. Turns out, Optimum billed for our services and aetna paid them almost a thousand dollars for our care, combined. Including treatment for "lesions" on my eye? that I think I would have noticed since I was giant pregnant and focused on my body. What makes me mad is that they said they didn't work with aetna and made us pay an extra $60 in person (our real copays are $10) and wouldn't directly charge aetna for the contacts.. which we paid too much for anyway ($75 a box/$150 each for a 6 month supply), I was just trying to support the small neighborhood business. And then they turned around and billed aetna. I do think I got a great prescription and the optometrists did a good job. I'm really please with how well I can see right now. BUT their reception/billing is really problematic. They just called my husband to make anther appointment. Yeah, nope. We're going to Costco. read more

So here's the saga that makes me wish I could give them zero stars. 1. I've been going here for a couple of years; Dr Vu was my doctor when I first starting coming in, and I liked her very much. She's no longer there are as far as I can tell. My last official contacts exam was June 2015 (during which I sat in the waiting room for fifteen minutes after my exam was done because I knew I hadn't paid my copay...I could have just walked out without paying and they wouldn't have noticed). I order a six-month supply of contacts at that time. 2. In December 2015, I call them to order more since I am on my last pair. They're already on my eyeballs, and the box with my prescription on it is in the recycling. That pair will be worn out by mid-January, so I call a couple weeks before Christmas to make sure I have plenty of time. When I call, they say they can't find the paper copy of my prescription. I ask if they can look up their insurance claim records since my vision insurance paid for part of my June 2015 order. They say their system is down and ask if I still have the box so I can just tell them what my prescription is. I don't. This process has already gotten me frustrated, and the staffer on the phone gets mad at ME. 3. I wait until the first week of January to call again. It's after the holidays, and surely their system is back up. It is, but they have no record of the insurance claim. Neither do they have a record of ordering my contacts, which are strong enough that they don't regularly have them in stock. And they still can't find the paper copy of my prescription. They ask me to come in for an appointment to get my eyes reexamined. I decline, because I was just there in June 2015. They have no record of my June 2015 visit at all. 4. I wait a couple more weeks to book the appointment because just talking to them on the phone is infuriating. I inform them that I will not be paying for the reexamination. They reschedule the appointment twice. One of those reschedulings came about because, when I signed in fifteen minutes before my appointment time, they were vastly behind schedule. After waiting for twenty minutes, they asked me to come back in an hour. After coming back in an hour, they said they wouldn't be able to get me in before they closed. In an hour. 5. I finally get reexamined in February 2016. It's not until I go to pick up my new contacts the next week that I realize the doctor - not Dr. Vu - prescribes me two different strengths that are both weaker than I've had before. I try them for a month because what do I know? Maybe my eyes have changed. They haven't. My right eye is blurry and I get headaches. 6. In March 2016, I schedule yet another reexamination, which is again rescheduled twice. I finally end up getting reexamined on May 2, and I am going to pick up replacement contacts tomorrow. This is nearly four months after my last pair of contacts were used up and almost six months after I first called to order new ones. read more

I went in for glasses in July. They came in the expected 5-7 days, but one lens was completely wrong. I go back, and they discover that their doctor wrote the prescription down completely wrong. It has now been almost 3 months, and they haven't gotten me a proper pair of glasses yet. I paid quite a bit of money for them, and have called three times in the last three months. The front desk staff Maria Antoniou is very rude, very unprofessional and lies about everything. Went in to get examined but when I received my glasses the prescription was too strong and I could not use them. Called front desk the very next day. Front desk scheduled an appmt to get re-examined but then Called me an hour before my appmt time to say the dr. Was out and could not see me. I was already on my way there. So this was very last minute, and unprofessional. I rescheduled for a week later and went in and when I got there she told me that I could not see the dr and that I had to wear my glasses at home for a week to see if I got used to the new prescription and call her back. Um why didn't she mention this on the phone and schedule me to go there for? That's just wrong and such a waste of my time and it was very frustrating to say the least. Wore them for a week (like she instructed) by the way she is not an optometrist, Just the front dwsk staff, as she won't let me speak with the optometrist who examined me. She was supposed to, as per my convo with my insurance company. Back one week later as they are still too strong and not the right prescription for me. Lost count by now how many times this front desk staff person is giving me the run around. Probably waiting for me to finally give up and forget about this whole ordeal so they don't have to re-examine me. Once again, She rescheduled me again to get reexamined. I called to confirm 2 hours before to make sure that this time I would not be sent home again without seeing the optometrist. She confirmed that I would get to finally see her and get re-examined......When I get there she told me that I could not see the optometrist and I would have to pay out of pocket to see her again. ???? What is going on here. Why all the appmts just to be sent back home with no resolution? I am so frustrated by now. Then front desk staff (always the same person) tells me to give her the glasses (which my insurance claim already paid for) and she would get my old prescription on them instead. So I gave them to her. Walked out. But then went back in 10 minutes after to ask for them back so that I could have my old prescription put in myself, as I did not trust she would actually do it. I was afraid she would purposely lose them or say I never gave them to her. Guess what? She said she could not find them and that I never gave them to her. Lol. Seriously. This is exactly what I feared would happened. How on earth did she misplace them in 10 min of leaving them with her? And then say I never gave them to her. It's quite obvious that this person at the front desk was playing games with me. In the end I have no glasses. And had to call my insurance to file a compaint and get an approval to see a new optometrist. This place is so unprofessional, so horrible. I don't know how they are still in business. I wish I had read the reviews before going there. Everyone else seems to have similar situations there. The problem is the front desk staff. Most days I was rescheduled to go there it was just after school and I had both my little ones with me and we all had to endure the pain of these senseless visits. I will not patronize this establishment anymore. Two weeks ago I went in for a basic eye exam. I received a basic eye exam that took no more than 8 minutes. My vision plan covered the exam. I paid $20 for the exam and $20 for new lenses. Today i received a bill for $1049 from my health insurance company. The bill consisted of 6 different claims ranging from $90 to $269. I walked in this afternoon asking Optimum Eye Care to explain why my health insurance company was charged when i already paid them via my vision plan. Optimum Eye Care told me that they tested me for things that was not covered under my vision plan. When they pulled my file, Optimum Eye Care was unable to find any other services performed other than the basic eye exam. My healthcare has been notified of the fraud they committed which consists of: billing for services not actually performed; falsifying a patient's diagnosis to justify tests, surgeries or other procedures that aren't medically necessary; upcoding - billing for a more costly service than the one actually performed; unbundling - billing each stage of a procedure as if it were a separate procedure; Avoid at all costs. read more

Run for your life. I went to them last year and why I decided to give them a second chance is beyond me. My initial phone call to make an appointment was bizarre. The guy on the phone was very abrupt and way too candid. Not professional. Was off putting. Forceful in a way. When I made it to my appointed I waited for a long time despite there being only one other patient present. Wasn't greeted at all. Had to ask to be checked in to my appointment myself. I realized the guy I was speaking with was the same one who I was on the phone with. He made fun of me several times for being on my phone. It was incredibly annoying and uncomfortable. He made jokes about how I can't look away from my phone for 5 min. I was trying to get work done on my phone as I have a deadline. Ridiculous. The doctor himself and the female receptionist were nice. That's why I'm giving 2 instead of 1 star. However, the doctor had to ask ME what contacts I had last time while looking at my file despite getting my previous script from them. Bro, you literally have my file open and you don't know? That was odd. And then the pricing. Jesus. WITH insurance they wanted me to pay $385 for my visit and a year of contacts. I can get the same supply of contacts online for like $230. I asked them how much I paid for my last visit and they couldn't tell me. They said it would take anywhere from 5-15 min to figure it out and can they just call me tomorrow? I left. Never going back. Recently had an eye exam there with Dr. Osman and was very happy with my experience. Dr. Osman was thorough and polite and seemed to really care about what he was doing - that's pretty rare these days. I was surprised to read some of the negative reviews about this office because I did not experience any of the issues mentioned in them. I believe that one of the supporting staff causing problems there was not exactly "customer service material" but has since been let go. Highly recommend Optimum Eye Care and particularly Dr. Osman for a quality eye exam. read more

I really like this eye doctor. I've seen both doctors that work out of this office and have felt comfortable with each. Their hours are accommodating (open til 7 Tues. and Thurs. and open Saturdays too). I've order contacts, glasses and even had to go here for a diagnosis when my eye was tweaking out once last year, and all experiences were great. It's good to have an eye doctor in town, who wants to run home to mom and dad's each time they need their yearly eye exam? Plus the receptionists are pleasant, which I've learned the hard way, is a rarity in this city. read more

I booked an appointment through ZocDoc on a Sunday afternoon. I went in to find that the doctor I'd booked an appointment with no longer worked there and, further, no doctors had shown up and could I please come back tomorrow? That was the first sign and I wish I'd never gone back. I like my new glasses well enough, but like others here, I was charged more than a thousand dollars in things submitted to my health insurance that my eye insurance said were not part of a routine eye exam. I was hoping to go in for a simple eye exam and get a prescription so I could order glasses online, but they wouldn't give me the prescription until I bought glasses there. I thought I was just supporting a local business, but after all the crap they've put me through, now, it just feels like one more point where I wish I could have walked away. AVOID! The optometrist was lovely but her staff is rude and incompetent. Strike 1. I was left waiting outside in the freezing cold due to the receptionist being late. I was not given a greeting or an apology. Strike 2. One of the front desk staff refused to answer my questions on how my insurance would work if I chose to purchase contact lenses. Instead she insisted I would get a better deal if I purchased frames. When I insisted that I would be purchasing contacts I was made to feel like I was bothering everyone and felt rushed out of the office. Strike 3. They ripped me off. I was told for the price I was paying I would be given a 3 month supply of lenses. When I got home I saw that I was only given a 6 week supply. After finally getting through to someone after many unreturned calls I was told "No. You only paid for 6 weeks. If you want another box you're going to have to come back and pay extra. Mistakes happen." How am I supposed to trust a medical professional if the staff is blatantly giving out misinformation and not doing anything to right their wrongs and inconveniencing their patients? I see that I'm not alone in my opinion here and wish I had read the yelp reviews of this place before wasting my money. PS. Do a quick google search of your contacts before you order them here. Best in New York! Staff is always friendly and the doctors are very attentive and thorough. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the friendly staff to the assistants that take you through the different test stations before meeting with the doctor you are treated as a VIP. If you are lucky enough to be prescribed glasses then you will be escorted over to the frame stylists, who are all beautiful ladies, and they will patiently help you choose the frames and lenses that will most fit your budget and personal style. I switched over to this office last year from my previous optometrist and have never regretted the switch. My family has been coming here for years- when it was Cosmos.... there now appears to be new ownership. The exam took all of 5 mins........ My son who is underage - needed a new prescription- and the dr. never came over to speak with me. They insisted that I needed a new exam and when they examed me in 6 mins - told me that my script was wrong and that I needed new contacts. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE. They lost my eye prescription saying the computers broke down and when I asked when the issue would be fixed she said it would be like this indefinitely. They then offered me another appointment, "free of charge" (while still asking for my insurance information) and when I showed up the eye care center was CLOSED completely. They had even called the day before to confirm my appointment and then noone bothered showing up. Absolutely HORRIBLE service.
