I went here to get my yearly eye exam and get measured for glasses. The woman who took my appointment over the phone was pleasant enough and was able to verify that they took my insurance.
When I went there, there were 3 female staff workers, which seemed odd since the place was empty. They were professional but not very warm. They preferred to stare down at their papers while talking to me instead of looking at me. I wasn't made to feel particularly welcome. They weren't rude, but they treated me rather distantly and impersonally, which is odd for a mom-and-pop store. I've been received orders of magnitude more warmly and cheerfully at LensCrafters.
While I was waiting, another customer came in who must have been a friend of theirs because the office became alive with chit-chat, which made me feel like even more of an outsider. Think: you're at a bar trying to talk to a pretty woman who isn't necessarily rude to you, but just kind of ignores you and chats with her friends instead. I tried my best to smile and make small talk, but they weren't having anything of it.
Anyway, after a short but uncomfortable wait, one of the doctors came to see me (not Dr. Fokas). Like the office staff, she wasn't rude, but just kind of professionally distant. She gave my eye exam competently. At the end of the exam she warmed up a little bit and made a meager attempt at chit-chat, but by then, the whole experience was just off-putting and I wanted to get out.
I'm not really qualified to say this except for the fact that I've been getting eye exams every year of my life, but it SEEMS like they don't have the diagnostic equipment that a large retail business like LensCrafters has. When I get a vision check up at LensCrafters, they give me a LOT more tests on a large number of machines, which was missing from this exam. Additionally, I'm always treated much nicer at LensCrafters and made to feel welcomed.
Again, the staff wasn't rude (maybe not looking at me while they spoke to me was a bit rude...) but they weren't friendly and certainly not welcoming.
I won't be coming back. read more
