Been here twice already. The service both times have been fast and friendly. It's not too crowded, and there are both indoor and outdoor seatings with a clean bathroom. Onto the food- if you ever want dank kebabs or shwarma, this is the place to go near the Oaklawn/Uptown area. I've gotten the mixed grill twice, and it's nice that they have the mixed grill combo option, because I want everything. Every cut of meat, from chicken, lamb, to beef, have been grilled perfectly both times I visited. The rice is nicely seasoned and buttery, pairs perfectly with the meats. On top of that, they introduced a new combo platter that includes all the sides as well. Their baba ganoush and humus are both amazing. Not too sour, just right with olive oil. They refill the pita bread regularly, and honestly, I hate salads, but I ate their side salads. Most important thing here tho is their garlic sauce. That thing is amazing if you like garlic. It has the sting of fresh garlic, and it pairs perfectly with all the meats. Definitely one of my favorite place for decently priced kebabs around. read more

We loved our lunch experience at Open Sesame. There was no wait but it was busy, service was fast and the people were kind. Ambiance was great, we loved the decorations and the comfy bench seats. And of course the food was amazing. They brought out flatbread with pickles olives and radish, with oil and seasoning. Simple but delicious. We ordered the lamb shish-kabob, with fattoush and hummus and the shawarma with fattoush and hummus. Incredible flavors, tender meat. The fattoush was so yummy, perfect compliment to the flavors of the meat and rice. The yogurt sauce that came with the shawarma was chefs kiss when combined on some bread with hummus and meat. Located in a shopping area with other services, you'll miss it if you aren't looking for it. Very cute interior and nice seating. We came during lunch and it had a few tables inside and filled up as we dined. Authentic and delicious food. So far, I just entered the restaurant, and we were waiting at the front door. There's at least three staff members walking around us, just ignoring, and not acknowledging us. It would be nice if we were at least acknowledged, and asked to be seated or at least we notified that there is a wait. Instead, we're just standing at the front door being ignored and guessing on what we need to do. After about 15 min of staying there, we just decided to leave. The people in front, and behind us also left, because not a single person was acknowledging. Several times I passed a small store front restaurant on Oak Lawn, and decided that it was time to give Open Sesame Grill a try. The decision was a good one, as all the food was great, and it broadened my knowledge of Lebanese food and its distinctions. I chose the Shawarma Plate, thin sliced slow cooked chicken served on a bed of rice. My two sides,included the Baba Ghanoush for an appetizer, with the Fatoush as my salad. Baba Ghanoush, was tasty, composed of eggplant mixed with tahini, garlic, and lemon juice, topped with olive oil. The Fatoush was awesome, consisting of an array of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, radishes and mint, tossed with lemon, garlic olive oil and pomegranate molasses. This was a real disappointment. Maybe it's not the thing to order here? Baba ghanoush was tasty...not my favorite ever though. A friend sitting next to me tried it and called it "bland," which I think is a bit harsh, but yeah, it wasn't anything special. Atmosphere is very casual, which I actually kinda liked. This is a place you can drop in wearing just about anything and feel ok. It almost feels like a roadside stand with a little more ceiling. Prices are reasonable. The server was very polite and friendly and took our order quickly as we were very hungry after the tradeshow. I actually liked it. Most of the good Arabic restaurants are in Richardson so I was a bit skeptical about food quality. I consider myself quite familiar with Arabic cuisine; I'm married to a Palestinian, have had Arabic-home-cooked meals at my in-laws and friends' homes, and cook Arabic food at home. I've read a harsh review stating that this place does not serve authentic Mediterranean food. I could not disagree more. The food tastes almost as good as my favorite Arabic restaurant in Richardson (Sababa, whose chef is Palestinian). For sure though, Open Sesame's food is better than the iconic Afrah. I had the kafta kabab and the Knafa. Both good. The pickled turnip and pickles are way too salty though; my tongue started to feel numb. lol If you are looking for traditional food, inquire about their off-menu-Wednesday specials. I didn't learn about this until after I ordered the kafta. I saw regulars eating mahshi (Palestinians call it mahshi anyway), which is hollowed mini eggplants and squash filled with rice and ground beef and cooked in a tomato sauce. After asking my waiter, he took down my name and number and told me that I would receive text messages regarding the upcoming Wednesday's specials. I can confirm that I have received one text message alerting me to the week's special. The restaurant is small, simple, but good. My wife and I recently read some great reviews about Open Sesame, and we were looking forward to giving it a try. I'd read OS was only offering pickup and delivery (not the case!), so I ordered the salad sampler, the fatoush salad, a large order of falafel, and of course, an order of fries for pickup. When I arrived to pickup our order, it was ready and waiting on a counter near the back. I couldn't find anyone behind the counter, so I gave a server my name and told her I was there to pick up our order. I asked her if they needed to check my name or order, and she replied no, so I took our bags and headed back home. I was disappointed when I opened our To-Go containers to find not one but TWO, large orders of falafel and no fatoush salad. Ack! (No cutlery or napkins either -- odd for such a large order.) We enjoyed the salad sampler and falafel, but the fries were nothing to write home about. (I'd recommend some seasoning or at least some salt.) Also, what are you supposed to do with 16 falafels and only two people?! We will give OS a call to clarify the issue with the order, and we hope to give them another shot in the future. read more

Kept hearing from friends about how good this place is, so decided to give it a try. Glad I did. Considering it's a middle eastern (Lebanese) restaurant, authenticity is a cornerstone in my review. And they got that part to a perfection. Everything is extremely authentic, and everything we ordered was home made in their own kitchen. The food portions were very generous, and the presentation was well done as well. The taste is a 5 star in my opinion. Everyone on the table had the same feedback as well. We tried their humus, kafta, shish tawok, and chicken shawarma. All amazing. Their dessert menu had only two options, but it was more than enough. As a Lebanese who have just moved from Lebanon, I am pretty disapointed with this place. Lebanese food is and should be an experience that showcases many of our values such as generosity and hospitality. The first time we tried to visit this place the owner who was standing at the door didn't even bother to welcome us and just said that the restaurant closed (way before the listed closing hours). Tonight, on Christmas eve, we wanted to try the restaurant out. So we made sure to call a night before to inquire about the opening hours, we were told the restaurant closes at 10:00PM and might close at 9:00PM if the night was slow. After arriving there at 7:30PM we were suprised to see the restaurant closed and the manager shrugged us off from inside. Trust me, a Lebanese restaurant that treats customers this way, will never serve you the authentic experience we take pride in. read more
