Christmas's eve dinner. Many thanks for keeping doors open even during this crazy storm. Been a patron for 8 years now. Food is amazing as always and taste the same as when On used to cook before retirement. I have traveled to Thailand no less than 10 times in my life, food here can be even better than mediocre Thai restaurants in Thailand! IMO the must gets are: stuffed chicken wings, pad pongali!!, crab fried rice, 51 five spiced pork, pad see eww, all the curry, Laab! read more

Last visit less than a month ago, I enjoyed food and service so much. However this visit on 9-14 shrimp curry and drunken Thai noodle with tilapia were both salty and had too much oyster sauce in the dishes and both my husband & I had same reaction. The hospitality was excellent. read more

Fantastic as always..best Pad Thai in town.. love the cream cheese puffs and love the egg rolls too...

This is one of the dirtiest restaurants I've eaten at. Food, I'll give them credit there, but the sanitation was so visibly bad, I waited to see if I got sick before writing my review. I'm shocked I didn't get food poisoning. Yeah, I know, I could have gotten up and left, but I'm a risk taker and there are so many positive reviews here. At lunch time on a Friday the place was packed, with a pretty diverse group, so that was a good sign the food was going to be tasty. I forced a coworker here with me since I had it bookmarked, and we were in the area. When we were seated we noticed immediately the sticky table. It wouldn't have mattered if it was wiped down, it's the material. It's like the protective layer was worn down, so you can feel and see the food soaked in. We ordered cream cheese wontons, crab cakes, and massamun curry with chicken. Cream cheese wontons were fine, probably frozen, but good. Crab cakes were also good, but it was mostly pork, I couldn't taste the crab meat at all. The curry was where it was at! Outstanding. It had the sweet and savory thing going as should any curry made right. I'd considering ordering this again, but I'm too scared to come back. The sanitation issues continued. My friends fork had a huge chunk of dried food on it, and the bowls they brought us for the curry had a layer of grim on the inside, I could scratch it off with my fingernail. It was absolutely disgusting. I ate my food after vigorously wiping down my appetizer plate, and fork. The service was also excruciatingly slow. The curry came out 38 minutes after ordering. That's unacceptable. Although the food was good. I can't come back here. If they don't care about giving customers clean eating utensils, I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. read more

We ordered a streamed whole fish today. The menu said $30, but we were charged $40. We asked a manager about the price difference. They YELLED at us from the start and said that the price has changed for a long time. At the end, they refused to adjust the price and said that if you don't like the service here just do not come back. They continued to bad-mouth about us in the kitchen, knowing that we would understand all (Thai) they are saying. Very very RUDE! We are super disappointed since the food here is delicious (a bit too sweet) for Thai standards. Shame on the manager! (The waitress is very nice tho.) This is the worst service in America I ever received. read more

Another great find, thanks to fellow Yelpers! Had this place bookmarked to try. I can safely say, that this will be our new "go to" for takeout. -Very reasonable prices -Huge amounts of food -Tasty -Service was excellent and very attentive especially when it comes to water refills which is a big plus for me. Thai always makes me thirsty. - Vibrant, descriptive menus- I like seeing what the dish looks like. -Order to kitchen to table time- super fast! Fried Rice w/ Crab Meat was very good. Not greasy at all. I always enjoy the fresh cucumber slices. Chicken Pad Thai was also quite good and spicy for choosing moderate. Egg rolls were alright. I don't usually like the sweet and sour, but theirs had a kick which made it better. Order of sticky rice was huge. For $3.00 we received a ton of it. Great place on many levels! Will definitely be back! read more

On's has phenomenal food. Truly amazing. I crave it... Everything is made to order - the kitchen is right there so you can see the food being prepared. They seem to do a huge takeout business, but the dining room has been full or almost full every time I've been there. I have to knock a star off because the hours seem to be a little irregular and the service is usually spotty. read more

Some of the best Thai you're going to have in Minneapolis. This place in incredible for many reasons, 1 of which being its prices. $10 for curry instead of the usually $14-$16 at a lot of places. Plus, the portions are generous so I can have some for lunch or a snack the day after. The spice levels are wild. The light-medium spice level is near the hottest at other places. But if you keep that in mind when ordering you will be good to go. We'll be back! read more

This place is phenomenal! Great variety of dishes to choose from, delicious boba tea, and some of the best mango sticky rice in the Tein Cities! The service was quick, the food came out before we finished our appetizers, and everything was hot. We will definitely be back before too long. Try the stuffed chicken wings! read more

First time there. Had the pineapple curry and it was outstanding. Will definitely be back.

I am very happy to report that this restaurant is only temporarily closed! Updated info on Google is showing that the restaurant reported itself closed 10 weeks ago. I think they have the best Thai food in the Twin Cities. I'm here on a visit and so am going to miss them this time, but I'm very relieved to learn that they'll be reopening on May 23! read more

On's has tasty dishes that makes up for the wait and slow service. Con- The Wait: I went at peak time over lunchtime & it's kind of chaos up front where we're all packed together and based on group trust of who was there first since the staff don't take your name down. I can see this system going a lot worse in places like San Fran & NYC where folks are more aggressive about being seated but worked out just fine here. It took 5-10 mins to get water & anyone to take our order but after that the server was really nice. Pro- The Food: I'm willing to take slow service if the food is good. Thanks Yelp reviewers because I got the pad see ew (with fried tofu) and the stuffed chicken wings and wasn't disappointed. I love stuffed chicken wings and these were some of the best I've had. It's fried but somehow seemed way less greasy than other places I've had it. My pad see ew was flavorful due to the heavy soy & oyster sauces. I also tried my friend's tom him soup which had a good level sour flavor. I was also impressed by how much noodle, meat & veggies were in the tom yum. It looked like pho but had the good sour flavor happening. Safe bet as a place to eat in this highly dense restaurant area. Plus free parking in back! read more

I came in here with high hopes because of the rating. I guess to some this might be a four star establishment, but this place was just average for me. 1. The parking lot is a nightmare 2. They need a deep clean of the dining area 3. I liked their interior color scheme 4. Pad Thai was way too sweet 5. Tom Yum was on point 6. The staff is friendly and it's family owned read more

As a native Thai, what I ordered should have been a slam dunk since they are typical street food : & . Instead the food were bland, dried and totally tasteless. The restaurant was in total chaos. Most of the waiters seem to be in hiding most of the time. Would never go there again. read more

Went there for dinner with my daughter it was our first time. The server was super friendly great. We ordered the sautee and a tofu appetizer. Satay was delicious. The tofu was inedible. It was Bland with zero flavor and it clearly was something that have been made a long time ago Frozen and then just refried. I ask the server to return it. We and everyone else in the restaurant can hear the owner screaming that customers can't return things. It was embarrassing. She made the server return it to our table. I told him he I would pay for it but please take it away. It was such an unprofessional response I couldn't believe it They lost what could have been a new very loyal customer who also writes positive reviews. I'm giving it two stars because the chicken was very good and the service was good. The owner not so good. read more

Yuck! Spicy noodles were sickening sweet! $19.23 for a basic noodle dish? This place is a joke.

I had heard about and driven past On's dozens of times before we finally stopped in for dinner one night. It was only about 5pm and there was already a line out the door. After eating here, it's clear why this is a University Avenue fan favorite and a Well-awarded Thai restaurant in the Twin Cities. Even with the line, we were seated quickly. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, in fact it's a bit run down, but I liked the vibe. Clearly run by locals who care. The menu has all the items you might expect, spring rolls, curries, and noodle dishes, but also some unique entrees that will have me back in visiting again soon (mango chicken!). Also, most menu items can be made gluten free if you ask, so it's great for folks who need options. Per Yelp, we knew we had to try the spring rolls and red curry. We got both plus our personal favorite, pad see ew. The rolls were delicious. Chock full of shrimp and pork, not overstuffed with the cheap stuff like lettuce. The red curry was so darn delicious, I can't stop thinking about the broth - I think I could drink it with a straw. I am not a huge spicy person, so I ordered it mild and I still thought it was dang spicy, so be aware. The pad see ew was delicious too. The tofu it came with was perfectly crispy and the dish loaded with veggies. All in all, On's Thai is delicious and we will be back. read more

First review for 2018! It's been a while!! This place definitely deserves some recognition. Whenever I'm in St. Paul, On's Kitchen is the place to go for Thai food. Who am I kidding? It is THE place to go for Thai food in the entire Twin Cities. Some of the tastiest dishes I have ever tried. Definitely go with an order of the Grilled Pork Neck. That dish is full of fantastic flavors. It's crispy, chewy, spicy, sweet and savory. Next up worth mentioning is the chicken rice dish. The ginger and garlic sauce they use for that dish is PFM (Pure F***ing magic. Really elevates the chicken to a whole other level. Their various curries are all tasty. The interior is nothing to write home about. The decor is a little dull for my taste but man is the food GOOD here. For that reason alone, I'm giving it a full 5 star, no regret, just come here, no nonsense, rating. read more

Maybe it's just me but: Flavors of dishes still good, but the portions are not as big as they used to be!

The ambience is casual and cozy. It's clear from the diversity amongst patrons the menu appeals to a large range of palates. Bottom line is the food tastes authentic, clean and delicious! 100% this is in our dining rotation! Grateful my husband heard about this gem. read more

This is, without question, my favorite Thai restaurant in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. The authentic Thai dishes here are off the hook tasty and just as good as what I have eaten on the streets of Bangkok. The area it is in is a little rough and not the easiest to get to because of the traffic and the train creating some one way navigation issues and congestion. There are shady folks hanging out on the street corner at times. It does have a small private parking lot in back which is almost always full and the people that tend to park there can't seem to park within the limit lines. The restaurant itself has no waiting area even though there is almost always a wait at dinner time. The viewable kitchen is smoky, loud and has cooks slinging woks wildly to get the food out. The tables have a constant sticky grease feel to them. In other words, the whole experience feels just like Thailand! Despite this, the food is, in my opinion, some of the best Thai anywhere. The menu is fairly large with a lot of variety so for the faint of heart, you can rest easy knowing that many westernized asian-esque items are on there. What really makes points for me though are the authentic Thai items. The starter Sour Sausages (complete with lettuce leaves, ginger slices and roasted hot peppers) are exactly like the authentic ones I ate from a street vendor at 2 am on Sukhumvit Road while large rats scurried around on the dark sidewalk. I have not seen these (sour sausages, not the rats) at any other Thai place around. My go-to comfort main is crispy fried pork belly cubes in a 3-alarm savory gravy with basil and chilis. I believe it is called Pad Prik Moo Grop but I know it as #70 on the menu. Totally awesome and if ordered "Thai Hot" as a spice level, it approaches GI-bleed inducing heat, mid-meal sweats, and a deep satisfaction that you really could be happy if God took you off the planet during this meal. Everything else I have tried is also extremely good but I keep coming back to this dish. I'm usually not a fan of places that are hard to get to, hard to park at, make you wait and cause you to fight a line up crowd. But for Sour Sausages and a #70 at On's, I'm all in every single time! read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch...solo diner but staff didn't seem to mind that. Good, fast service for lunch (which is good because there was a crowd). Came here because an Uber driver recommended it... This place is delicious! Started off with the chicken satay appetizer. Was pleasantly surprised by the portion size- they served 5 large pieces of chicken with the peanut sauce and a cucumber and red pepper salad. For the entree, we ordered the tom ka (#78) with chicken and pad-ga-prow (#56) with shrimp. Both entrees were great. The tom ka soup here was probably the best I've ever had. It was very simple but still had a lot of great flavors from the lemon grass, ginger and mushroom. The second dish was also very good. The peppers were crisp and the shrimp was very flavorful (maybe just a little too overpowering). Definitely would come back to try more things on the menu... or the tom ka again :) read more

My friend and I went there for dinner after our friend's wedding rehearsal. This place is located in Midway (St Paul) on University and Snelling Ave. It has its own parking lot in the back. There was constructions going on University ave because they are planning to build a light rail (dunno when it's going to be done). It was kind of hard for to locate it, luckily my friend was there to help me out. I like the menu how they show pictures, usually I need to see what they look like ;) so that was very helpful. I usually order spring rolls anyway at a southeast Asian restaurant ;) and an entree. We ordered Spicey Noodles and I thought it was ok. I like how they have a cute basket of diffrerent sauces, my favorite thing! Inside it was very cute and nicely decorated, I think. They server was very nice and friendly, and i like that! What I like about this place is the kitchen, open kitchen where you can see what's going on! ;) Overall, I really like the place and try to go back soon. I love Asian food! read more

Lived up to the reputation and reviews! Some of the best Thai I've had in Minneapolis and clearly the Pad-See-Ew was my favorite. We ordered a bunch of things for lunch - Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, Tom Ka soup, Crispy Chicken Wings, Shrimp and Pork Dumplings, Spicy Noodles, Crab Fried Rice, and many other things. Good portions, good prices and quality food. Spice ranges from mild, medium to hot and medium is pretty spicy (for those who can't handle it). Unassuming place near Midway (St. Paul) and hidden a little by the light rail. There's a parking lot (in bad shape w/ some potholes) in the back which is a good thing since there's no street parking. Small lot, not enough servers causing slow service, poor ventilation in the kitchen, and the food is more for Western pallets. I have heard of the place for so long and had high expectations, but my visit experience did not live up with it. The place was dark and kinda sketchy, but packed with people. I had to wait around 15 mins for my table. My server was nice and helpful at first, but later I barely see him anymore to ask for water or to order more. I guess the server received the tips from their tables only, so when I asked another server for waiter, she replied me (kinda rude) that I had to ask my server only (???) I ordered the Pad Thai and Glass noodle with Shrimp (I forgot the name), and Thai milk tea! The food was great, the Thai milk was really delicious- not too sweet or over powering. Great place for authentic Thai food--get the appetizers and the salads rather than the typical noodle or curry dishes, especially the Haw Mok and papaya salad. THE BEST THAI FOOD IN THE TWIN CITIES! I moved here 3 years ago and was searching for a Thai place like my favorite back home. This is quite possibly even better. Very good place to get Thai food!! :) I just went here yesterday. Took my mom out for her birthday for lunch time. We picked a variety of dishes that were all pretty high quality in terms of taste and preparation! Very very satisfied with the food and service. The waitress was prompt, very polite, and attentive; not much more you can reasonably ask for. We had the: Stuffed Crabcakes Nam Khao - Spiced Rice, Sausage, Peanuts, Coconut in Lime Vinaigrette Pad-See-Ew - Stir Fried Flat Rice Noodles Pad-Khana-Moo-Group - Stir Fried Chinese Broccoli with Crispy Thick Bacon and the Thai Red Curry The crab cakes were decent..fried and came with a nice sweet sauce, but not too flavorful. (fried food) The Pad-See Ew was tasty and the noodles, meat, and vegetables were cooked just right! The Pad-Khana-Moo was very flavorful (much more than a Chinese veggie dish). The Thai Red curry was good. I liked the thin bamboo and thin cut chicken and it went well with the white rice. I usually make the curry thicker at home (which I like more) but from my understanding traditional red curry is supposed to be more soup-like I had here. A big hands up for the Nam Khao. Extremely flavorful. There was a lot going on in the dish taste-wise! Hot, savory, acidity, sweetness. BUT just in the right way. Add that in with the textures in the crunchiness in the rice and WOW. The only thing I wish it had or came with was more lettuce to scoop and eat it with :) I want to definitely applaud the spiciness of the dishes though. P e r f e ct spiciness and real spiciness at "Thai Hot". The hotness tasted built right into the dish, not too little like an after taste or thought...just part of the natural flavors of each dish. I rate this place like a 4.5 (rounded up to 5), because I know the food could have been better in some small ways, but overall its a "solid". read more

This was the best fried rice I've ever had! The medium spice level was perfect for me and I like spicy food.

My absolute go-to for Thai food. Can't believe it took me this long to drop a review...but the Mango Chicken is just uh-mazing. I do hear from a number of my friends that they prefer Bangkok Thai Deli - which doesn't resonate with me. Maybe I just haven't had the right stuff but at this point I'm still a big fan of On's. The price point hit the spot, the service is as good as it can get - and they have their own parking too! Some other food that I really enjoy would be the Pad Thai here, something that can be easy to make yet hard to get it right - as proven by other Thai restaurants that I've frequented. read more

Sooo... We just had dinner here. Here's our review. Background: on's Thai has a reputation for being one of the best Thai spots in Minneapolis. If you read the reviews you will see what I mean. Mood: this restaurant is beaten down, while that is usually a reason to credit it with "authenticity", it looks more to be a lack of genuine care. Today's visit had burning pepper smoke throughout that was not being ventilated adequately throughthe exhaust. I personally asked two different waiters about the fumes but I was told that it was due to "cooking all day because we are popular". Food: when we ate here 1.5 years back, it was on par with an authentic Thai place. However today we ordered the "spicy noodles", and pad se ooo. It was very subpar. The spicy noodles were barely noodles, and the spice in it was barely noticeable. The pad see ew was drenched in soy sauce and not great. The Thai tea was watered down. In review: I believe this was this restaurant was once good but now lives off of its reputation. A lack of investment into the atmosphere, improper ventilation and sub par food. I would not recommend it. read more

Thai food, the canned curry comfort cuisine of a moderately globalized America. With options galore, it becomes hard to judge what one should consider "good" or "great" Thai food. On's has earned quite a reputation in the Twin cities, one which it meets but with only some dishes and that too on some days. Located on University Ave with its small parking lot, On's offers a dark and no nonsense ambiance. The menu is extensive with familiar curries, noodles, stir-fries, soups and rice dishes. I've tried multiple items here couple of times and have had a variety of experiences. First they insist on a rating out of 10 for spice levels, information which seems to undergo a game of "telephone" by the time it reaches the kitchen. I've had weekend-ruiningly-spicy curries as well as sickeningly-sweet ones served with just 1 unit deviation on the spice scale. Some of the noodle dishes are too ketchupy. The curries are always more watery than elsewhere, with floating coconut fat and served with too little rice. Extra rice is 2 bucks, so not the most ideal of situations. Besides this, the chicken in curries ranges from just right to dried and chewy at times. The bamboo shoots are always too gritty. The appetizers often fare better with vermicelli stuffed chicken and fish cakes offering a nice start to the meal. The iced tea is good but expensive for what it is at 4 bucks. There have been many claims of authenticity and richness of flavor by other patrons. Claims which may not be entirely misplaced but are rather dependent on how things pan out when you visit and how much Asian food do you usually consume. I'd say the place is a 3.5/5 with freshness to the food which makes up partially for its other inadequacies. read more
