It was warm, savory, and hearty, with natural spices like lemongrass that really stood out. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely revisit this Thai restaurant to try more dishes. We came to Sawatdee after finding out that Joy's was closed for renovations. I had massaman curry with mock duck and my friend had pad Thai with beef and Thai iced coffee. Curry was tasty although the portion was a bit small compared to other versions I've had in CA and MN. Friend liked the pad Thai and even had leftovers. Service was friendly and efficient. I stopped in for the first time because I had a business meeting, and the person I was meeting with was in the mood for Thai food. After discussions, we decided to give Sawatdee a shot. Our server, Daija, greeted us with a smile and was very helpful. She even helped my guest figure out the name of a dish she couldn't remember. I went with the Thai salmon fillet, and my guest ordered the Rama Thai Delight. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, but it picked up shortly after. Even with more tables filling up, Daija stayed on top of everything and continued to give us great service. The food was just a bit salty for me, but other than that, everything else was spot on. The restaurant was clean, the portions were generous, there were plenty of menu options, and parking wasn't an issue. Overall, a solid experience. First item ordered were the egg rolls and ate them so fast only one was pictured. They are perfectly crisped and not oily at all. My friend ordered the basil dish with pork while I ordered the duck curry which was very delicious. Our server took great care of us and made the rounds often to make sure we had all we needed and refilled our water often, good thing too since we ordered our food spicy. The flavor was delicious and the portion was typical, but I wish it had more veggies in it. It was more onion heavy than anything else. Agree with other reviews. Really good food but not great. Love that you can order spicy level from 1-5 and 5 is actually truly spicy, even the server warned and questioned us twice. My son loves level 5 and I happily ate level 3 spice, my mom had level 1. Casual atmosphere, really great and attentive service. If you are looking for a cocktail or glass of wine with your meal, they sadly don't serve alcohol. We were there earlier (5pm) and had the place pretty much to ourselves on a Wed evening. Decent quality and good flavor. Everything appeared and tasted fresh. Very reasonably priced. Meals served with a good helping of rice. Staff were young and fun and the decor is a mix of Asian and Fast Casual. We were seated promptly and served within reason, but then the place got slammed with legit 20+ people showing up at once as we were ready to check out. Not their problem, and they prioritized us checking out to reduce our wait so kudos to the team. Curry Puffs Not my favorite item and I don't really don't think it's a good value. We have been so incredibly impressed with Sawatdee in Bloomington. The food is always delicious (it is spicy- we love super spicy food and typically go with 2 or 3 on the spice level), the service in wonderful, and it is super clean- even the bathrooms. I used to frequent this location when I lived in Bloomington so I thought I'd stop in. There is a sign that says to seat yourself at lunchtime. It took awhile for the server to come my with water and a menu. We went to this location for the lunch buffet but was disappointed to see it's only offered Mondays and Fridays. The fresh spring rolls I had were ok but the pork was very dry and the sauce was not the peanut sauce I'm accustomed too. The chicken pad Thai I ordered medium spice and it had a kick. It tasted prey good and like I remembered. The presentation was lacking and I wish there was more color because it really didn't look appealing. Even something as simple as a lime wedge on top would have made a huge difference. There is ample parking. read more

Wow! What a great place! This was a 10/10 including food and service! The waiter was extremely attentive, he even filled up our eaters three times in the hour we were inside which is impressive and super kind. We talked with him and another customer sitting at a table nearby about movies and other local stuff and it was such a pleasant conversation, I love when what staff genuinely engage with their customers. We got two cans of soda, their chicken satay, cream cheese wontons, and their special curry and enjoyed all of them so much. The chicken satay was the perfect texture and the peanut sauce to pair was wonderful. The special curry came with a side of rice and they allow you to pick your spice level 1-5 which is always fun. We went with a 3 after he warned us they run hot and we enjoyed it, definitely had some spice as you had several bites but was very tolerable and added to the overall flavor well. Our bill came to right around 30 something which was so worth it for the quality of the food and service. The restaurant itself was about half full during early dinner time so it was very easy to walk in and get a table. The place is very simply decorated but clean with several tables and booths available. We will 100% be back and I recommend this for anyone wanting great service and food that comes out fast without sacrificing any quality, yum! read more

Met a friend here for lunch. There is a sign to seat yourself. However, it doesn't say to also take a menu. A server came up right away with water, then gave us time to look at the menu. Service was excellent, quick to refill water. My friend ordered the spring rolls and thoroughly enjoyed them. He also ordered the Green Curry with medium spice. The server warned him that their medium was quite spicy. He decided to go with it and was sorry he did. We found out after that they have a "sliding" scale. What he ordered was a 3. Next time, he'll try the 2. Even with the extra spice, he still enjoyed the dish I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai, which was very good. There was plenty of large shrimp in the dish. Was craving some Thai food and hit up one of my friend's favorite spot while I was visiting from CA. We ate a really early dinner, so the restaurant was fairly empty, great service by the waitress. I ordered chicken pad thai, and though my friend said level 3 medium spice was good, the waitress did warn us that it would be spicy. With that, I changed it to level 2. Well, everything was burn your lips, tongue, cheek spicy! I was so glad she convinced me to level 2 because even that was too spicy. However, the pad thai is incredibly sweet, and definitely not what I am used to eating. Everything was different from the food I am used to CA, so it wasn't to my exact liking. Stopped here for lunch en route to the tile store and was so glad that we did. It's a pleasant environment, and the food is lovely. My Holy Basil (medium spice) had a good level of heat, and you could taste both black pepper and chili pepper, which was a nice nuance. The basil was fragrant and enhanced the dish. The jasmine tea was lovely on a winter day, and the rice was fluffy and had a pleasant amount of starchiness. This was a delicious midday meal. read more

They offered fresh chicken spring rolls and the sauce to go with them was really good! I loved the curry, and pad Thai was decent. I loved the fresh fried spring rolls and the cream cheese wontons were some of the best that I've had. They offer a few different dishes and a soup. The prices were fair for what you get. Service was excellent as well. I thought some of the dishes tasted a little bland, but you could add your own sauce to spice it up a bit. I'm not sure what kind of soup they're trying to make (hot and sour??) but it literally tasted like leftover veggies from yesterday thrown in a broth. Found rotten potato in the braised beef dish, you might want to inspect the food in your plate closely before eating. As for dessert section, cantaloupe tasted rotten, watermelon was tasteless, not to mention there was a fly circling around the food. Those chocolate covered cookies are generic store-bought. The tofu soup is a must for starters! Very flavorful (the broth as tofu has no flavor!) and a great way to start the meal. Don't worry, Spring Rolls. I haven't given you up completely! Avoiding my usual choices of Pad Thai or fried rice, today I opted for the Lob Esan with sticky rice. Wow, this was a treat to the taste buds! Fresh flavors, and so many flavors. They make this with coconut milk and peanut paste, along with cilantro, cucumbers, and other ingredients, I really am happy I tried something new. I love spicy food, but for some reason, I chose three peppers instead of four. I should have done that to really make this dish pop. The sticky rice was extra, but I'm glad I ordered that too. Tried Sawatdee for the first time tonight - live out in SLP, but had a random Uber Eats coupon & was excited to try it! We ordered Tom Kha soup with chicken, 3/5 spice; a set of vegetarian fried spring rolls & plain cream cheese wontons! Portions were huge as expected by other reviewers. We loved the mushrooms in the Tom Kha, however would order 4 or 5/5 heat next time as the soup was quite mild. Would probably also try tofu instead of chicken to see how they compare! The egg rolls & wontons were THICK. We reheated them at 375 for 5 min after the food was dropped off so they tasted as if they were just delivered to our table. Just visited this place for lunch today (10/15/21). I've eaten here several times in recent years, usually for the lunch buffet, which has returned after a hiatus during the pandemic. In the past, it's been great - meat & vegetable stir fry, Thai noodle dish, rice, appetizer and soup. But today the food was very poor. Soup and appetizer, OK, but after one bite of the other dishes I couldn't stomach it. The chicken dish was fine, but the noodles had an awful taste, and the white rice, of all things, was not only clumpy but gave off a terrible smell. I told the waitress, who said she'd mention it to the cook, but then got a bill for the full price (which is higher than before). Awful food, poor service, not a pleasant experience.
