Coconut Thai has a fantastic, convenient location, and the service overall was good. My husband ordered the Thai stir-fried cashews with mock duck and he really enjoyed his meal. Unfortunately, my entree was a bit lackluster. I got the shrimp Pad Thai and the noodles were mushy and could have used a bit more flavor or maybe spice? I wasn't offered a choice on a spice scale when ordering and the dish ended up being very, very mild. Came in with cousins and Mom on a very cold night. The Menu looked a lot like a favorite place we visit in Golden Valley / Plymouth area. The good? Staff was quite nice. The food was tasty. However it felt like everything had way too much sugar added. The shrimp appetizers were great. Calamari was greasy and coating fell off the squid. Main dishes were basil tofu fried rice. It's been several years since I've been here, we were shopping in the area and decided to dine here for dinner. They were busy in the evening, we had to wait an hour for a table. Which was fine, we went to check out the stores in the area to kill time. Restaurant is spacious, bright, and clean. Staff was wonderful, paid special attention to my friend peanut allergy since we ordered fried item, peanuts are fried in the same oil. Food is delicious as always. I don't know how fresh tofu differs from tofu (also on the menu) but I preferred it over the chicken I had last time. It was good, but medium spice it wasn't. There was plenty of Thai basil and red & green bell pepper slices as well as onions. But it was pretty bland and the noodles were dry. It needs some kind of sauce. The cream cheese puffs are my absolute favorites because they are crispy like puff pastry and stuffed with cream cheese. For fun, I decided to try the Spring Rolls with shrimp. You can order dishes on the menu with varying spice levels. We get the Drunken Noodles medium spice which is the perfect amount of heat, but not quite burning your tongue off, and the Panang Curry mild. I have been here three days in a row for takeout. Why? The flavor, freshness, and portion sizes cannot be beat. Rarely, do you find a food container FILLED with the items you ordered like fresh tofu and veggies. Here, your spoon will always be weighted with food. This is a nice casual restaurant offering very authentic Thai food. The staff is very friendly and I had a nice lunch - a tasty bowl of Tom Yum Goong (shrimp). As advertised, it was spicy. I chose a spice level of 4 and probably could have done a 3....and I like spicy food! The menu offers a nice mix of soups, noodle bowls, curries (I think there were 5 different "colors" of curry). The portion is good and the speed was fast. One of the favorite is the deep fried tofu. It was so good!! Outside was crunchy and inside was soft. Its just so yummy. I've been here twice now for lunch and loved it both times. I got the squash curry (red curry) and yellow curry with tofu. Both were excellent. We also got the fried Thai eggrolls and they were really good too. I would get everything again. The waitresses were excellent and very friendly. I was really looking forward to finally making it here after hearing so many good things but to be totally honest, it didn't exceed expectations. I'm not sure it totally met them either. I'm a huge Thai food fan, we usually order takeout and I was excited to finally order in-restaurant. I ordered the pineapple fried rice, which is a go to for me at Thai restaurants.. and I really enjoyed this one! Super big portions too. The restaurant is beautiful brick on the outside (see pictures) and has a very modern interior decor (see pictures). While the Value is above average, it is a bit pricey - as curry and soup dishes are around $18 with an added protein. The four of us started with beers and a Thai Iced Tea along with appetizer orders of Gyoza pan-fried pork dumplings (see picture) and Fresh Thai Spring Rolls (see picture). We all enjoyed both - as they tasted just as good as they look in the pictures. For our main courses, the others ordered Tom Yum Soup (see picture), Squash Curry Chicken (see picture) and Green Curry Beef (see picture). As I wasn't particularly hungry and always like to order Papaya Salad if its on the menu, I went with that (see picture). We all shared tastes of each others dishes and found all of them to be delicious! If you follow my posts, you know how hard it is for me to leave a restaurant without sampling their desserts and tonight was no different. Since we were all pretty full already, we decided to order the Cheesecake Roll (see picture) and a scoop of Grean Tea Ice Cream (see picture) and share both of them. Again, both of them were at least as good as they look in the pictures and I would recommend them both. Lastly, I ended up giving Service a 3* rating - not because it was bad, but because it was just that - average. We didn't have a consistent person waiting on us, the communication was a little challenging and there was a wait for drink refills. Worse yet (and given the previous paragraph), I had a bit of a panic attack when we had to flag someone other than our server down to order dessert, then wait well beyond the check arriving for the dessert to be delivered. I was getting concerned that they forgot the most important part of the meal... :-) In the end, it was delivered though and tasted so good that it was worth the wait! A modern and attractive atmosphere with great Thai food in Edina makes the Coconut Thai a restaurant that you'll want to experience in person. Okay, for those of you from CA, I'm not trying to dis our Thai food restaurants but the more I travel outside of CA, the better the Thai food gets. I have not had very good Thai did in CA for a while now. Coconut Thai is amazing! They treat you like family. They do the best they can when the place is packed , the line is out the door for their to go orders that are being picked up. When you walk in the place feels welcoming & charming. It is located in an outdoor shopping area. Here's the secret... go shopping, but go to eat at Coconut Thai around 4:30pm any later and the place will be swamped. Again, Great Thai food!! read more

Pad Thai is awesome and can be completely vegetarian which most of their dishes can be made without any meat! The portions are also big enough to last you another meal or share with a friend! 10/10 for the food. I've always loved their food. Excellent taste and quality. Very vegan-friendly as well. 1 star for the service. Our waitress was visibly annoyed by our existence, and I have my theories but I'll stick to the facts: She gave an attitude when I added appetizers to our order. She kept trying to take the menu and I kept telling her that I had more to order. She was visibly annoyed by this. I asked for a certain spice level and she was annoyed by this. I asked for chili oil, chopsticks, extra napkins, straws, and plum or sweet and sour sauce for the veggie rolls and curry puffs and she darn near had a fit. Mind you, by that time we realized she had a problem so we asked for a few things at a time, but that didn't help. Oh, and when I asked for the Thai Fried Rolls (or whatever the name is on the menu) she was like "what is that?" I pointed to the menu and she said, "Oh, egg rolls. They're egg rolls." Miss ma'am the menu doesn't call them that so how are we to know that you call them something else?? My friend asked about the spice level for her Sriracha Fried Rice and the waitress got annoyed, saying it's already spicy. Completely ignoring the request to adjust the spice level (which can be done on rice and curry dishes). Lastly, no checking on us to see if we needed anything. No refilling of our empty water glasses. I specifically waited an hour to see if she'd notice my empty water glass. She didn't. It wasn't until she audibly heard my slurping of the empty glass that she brought water. Mind you, the table of Caucasian women behind us kept getting refills. I was fed up and told her that she seemed annoyed. She denied and gave me the most lame excuse, "No, but you keep asking for things and... Well, but it's not that busy right now." Poppycock. Her attitude commenced when we walked in. (And we were there on business, working with our laptop too. So it's not like we were a loud, rambunctious party of two.) I still tipped her, though she didn't deserve it. I love their food, so I will no doubt order again, but carryout only henceforth. Shame! read more

We had not been back for a few months, we were surprised at the new space/addition. We were sat in that space. It seems that the new space is an after thought as far as service. We waited, water was brought out at least 3 times, they were fairly busy, in the other room, the original. I have to say the food was better than ever! The price point is great! However the service will keep us from going back. The problem I see, from my point and experience in restaurants, is that there are no designated sections. Everyone is free styling. From take out, to seating, to serving drinks or food, it's a free for all. This would be fine, however one doesn't know what the others have done. Again, food was great. Lets start of with the best part. Food is Great. Very flavorful and plentiful. If your looking for good - great service do not go here. Our service was painfully slow. Starting with the food, they prepare some very good Thai food. Really enjoyed the stir fried w/ basil dish, along with their stir fried cashew dish. Had one of their curry dishes, along with papaya salad, as well, which were both good, but not great. We had the impression that they offered more vegan options, but on the menu, really only a couple of items (i.e. edamame) marked as vegan. So if someone is vegan, this may not be the best place for dining options. But the food was definitely a 4 star, and the service was also very good. Our server took good care of us, checking on us frequently, and food came out pretty quickly. Will definitely keep this in mind for future visits to the area, but we'll probably look for another place with better vegan options. Just a personal preference. read more

Got takeout from Coconut Thai for dinner. Super delicious and generous portions. I am a Tom yum soup snob and I thought it was so good! I ordered hot and it was hot but not blow my lid. My MIL ordered green curry-mild- and felt it had too much of kick. So recommend to err on the side of less spicy when ordering. She also was disappointed it didn't have eggplant when it was supposed toS Cream cheese wontons: small but plump. Great dipping sauce. Spring rolls: quite good! Shrimp and ground pork. Great peanut dipping sauce. Drunken noodles with pork: Not too greasy as they sometimes can be. Well seasoned. All said, would definitely do takeout again from Coconut Thai. Hands down the best Thai food I've ever had. I love this restaurants food and overall atmosphere. We've dined in and done takeout from here many times and we keep coming back for more. It is fresh and has the perfect level of spice. For apps, the chicken satay has a great peanut sauce to dip in with chicken that is perfectly marinated. The fresh rolls are a great vegetarian starter. Gyoza never disappoints and have a perfect sear when you dine in. For entrees, the Panang curry is the best I've ever had. Creamy, spicy and the perfect mix of chicken and veggies. This is what we keep coming back for. The basil rice and the drunken noodles round off our go to order and offer great options for everyone. Dang...I have been bragging about this place to my coworker and we went today for a Monday noon lunch. We encountered super awkward service. I really was embarrassed that I brought her here other than the fact that the food at this place thankfully trumped the strange service today. We walked in at 12 noon and there was no one there at the counter to welcome us and the party of three that walked in just in front of us. Both of the dishes we ordered smelled slightly off. The odor, taste, and texture were not like any Thai food I've had. I took a few bites and couldn't eat more. The sweetness in the dish was overpowering compared to the same dish at other Thai places. Normally Thai food has nice, complex flavor profiles, but all I could taste was sweetness and fishiness (and it wasn't a fish dish). For that reason this review will only focus on the taste of the dishes as the presentation and decor would skewed by my wife's high level of skill in those departments. :) Fresh spring rolls get a 3 out of 5 stars as they are good sized but flavor was lacking and fully depended on the sauce. I personally think to much lettuce and could use some mint. Tom Yum Soup with pork gets a 5 out of 5 stars from my wife as it tasted great and cleared her sinuses as she hoped. On my taste test I would agree with her as the flavor and spice level was balanced. I chose the Tom Kha Soup as always and it did not disappoint.
