I'm shocked I haven't stopped by to try this place before. Hands down best sushi I've had in the past year and unbeatable prices. Parking is plentiful right in front and being seated was a breeze especially before dinner time. When seated, we were served water immediately. The server asked if we intended to drink anything more. We then ordered three large Sapporo beers. We ordered salmon sashimi to start. Then, my fiancé and I ended up ordering the Taste of Onori Menu to share. For $55, we received about 14 items, omokase style: Edamame & Miso Soup Tuna Sashimi (so good as a starter) Albacore Sushi (1 piece) Seared Black Cod Sushi (1 piece) Shima Aji Sushi (1 piece) King Salmon Sushi (1 piece) Toro Handroll Sea bream Sushi (my favorite piece) Halibut Sushi (1 piece) Japanese Yellowtail (1 piece) Hokkaido Scallop (1 piece) Kinme-Dai Sushi (1 piece) Ottoro/Chu-toro (1 piece - phenomenal) Salmon Handroll We weren't full after our shared meal, so we ordered a salmon cut roll. It was one of the best cut rolls I've had and it only had salmon, rice, and seaweed. Food here is magnificent. The servers are quick to take plates away and give more water, if needed. I've had sushi in this area before but nothing tasted quite as good as this. Me and my husband stopped here on a whim after doing some shopping and boy are we glad we did so! It was not too long of a wait at all and a great stop overall for us. Every roll was DELICIOUS. Not only was every single thing good that we tried, but there was a more plentiful amount of fish and nori seaweed sheet than I expected in each hand roll. It made the price worth it for me. The spicy tuna lingered on my tongue in the best way possible and was a sensation of good flavor. The Toro was one of my favorite hand rolls too but the salmon and yellowtail were gooood too! Seriously everything we had was delicious! I also really liked the edamame as an appetizer and palette cleanser. Only $3 and very worth it. The salt on the edamame was super flavorful, like a yuzu salt or something. It was delicious. Staff was also attentive. Moki double checked my order and continued to refill my water the whole time we were there. She was super nice and I'm so glad she was helping to serve us because she made our experience extra special. The vibe here is nice and relaxed. Came here several times since this place opened, Friday night I put my name in for a table just to wait over an hour, and watch other groups who clearly came in after my grp get called and seated at both the bar and tables. We finally just left and ate elsewhere. One group of 6 were just sitting at the bar, no food in front of them, just hanging out drinking alcohol with someone behind the bar, while large amounts of people were waiting for a very long time. Management should really take control and oversee the 'sign in' system, if someone behind the sushi bar can hangout and drink alcohol with customers then they can surely afford to pay someone to take names and properly seat people in the order they arrived. The nori is crisp and delicious because the rolls are quickly made & served. There's not a lot of fillers in Onori rolls - just perfect rice and fresh fish. By far the best sushi in town! My friend and I stopped by last week. We were seated as soon as we arrived on Friday at around 1pm and we ordered their specials. She had the Onori Signature Set Menu and I had the Little Onori. The food came out and I was very impressed with the selection. The food was delicious and perfectly timed. Ever since it's been opened, I got at least once a month! Been wanting an omakase style restaurant in town and happy there finally is one. The quality of the food, service, and ambiance at this place is amazing. Any chance I've gotten, I take people here to eat at. They end up loving it as well! Whenever I go I always get an order of their crispy rice. It's so cute and the crunch of the crispy rice with the freshness of the tuna always hits the spot. For the price you pay, the quality isnt bad. It was surprisingly good. My boyfriend and I decided to go try the handrolls but ended up doing the omakase. We sat at the counter but looks like they don't exactly have sushi chefs manning the counter. There was someone making hand rolls for the whole counter (though it wasn't exactly fully) and then another chef doing the nigiri. The service for counter seating is the same for table. You don't get the nigiri one at a time and it makes sense since there's no sushi chef at the counter. They serve it to you multiple pieces at a time. Some fish quality was better than others in terms of texture or taste/flavor. For the price I'm not surprised but it wasn't terrible. Would recommend if you want a cheap omakase. Heads up, you can't order hand rolls to go since they believe in the quality, and it would be soggy by the time you are home. We came in to celebrate my daughters birthday, this is her favorite place to eat hand rolls. I tried the hakkaisan sake this time it was pretty tasty and complimented my hand rolls well. This is one of my dad's fav places. He's been praising the owner and his food for years back at his previous restaurant. I've only eaten Chris's food 2 or 3 times compared to my dad's hundreds, but each of my experiences has been positive and delicious. My dad and I got the Taste of Onori and my mom got the smaller $40 version. Both were phenomenal and a great variety. I ordered some extra handrolls and wagyu nigiri since I'm a glutton. All the sushi was amazing. If there's any minor criticism it's the restaurant is elevated past its appetizers. The miso, sunomono, and gyoza get outclassed by the rest quite starkly. They're perfectly fine for a standard casual Japanese place, but for an elevated tasting menu vibe, they are a bit lacking compared to apps at other Japanese places of this tier. Oh man this place is AMAZING! I have not had sushi or hand rolls as good anywhere (even Japan!). We live nearby and have been wanting to stop by, esp with the great reviews. We thought it would be more of a fast food/grab and go type place but there is restaurant seating at the bar, or at the back of the restaurant. Beautiful and clean. We sat at a table in the back and were given waters right away, and she took our drink order. We opted for one of the pre set meals, for $40. Great mix of appetizers and main courses. Small portions but made so pretty and fresh. I also ordered a spicy blue crab hand roll and the spicy tuna crispy rice. I think prices are very reasonable, but the hand roll portions are smaller than other places. The quality though of the rice, the seaweed, the ingredients - makes a huge difference in taste and we were loving it all! This definitely has to be one of the freshest variety of fish I've had and was definitely worth the trek. My sis and I got here right when it opened and glad we did. After maybe 10 minutes of being seated, there was already a line out the door. That's a good indicator that place is well liked and delicious. Drove out from south SD to spend our first wedding anniversary eating delicious hand rolls here at Onori, and oh boy was it worth that trip! My wife and I love to try out the hottest/newest spots offering fresh Japanese fish, sushi, poke, omakase all over San Diego, and we were stoked about a new hand roll spot not as far as LA. Onori is still new but we were impressed. There was a short line inside but reminiscent of most restaurants in Japan, most people seem to stop in to eat, be served quickly, and then leave, so the wait was less than 10 minutes. Love the vibe of the inside with the sushi bar right when you walk in (recommend sitting here if you're getting hand rolls to guarantee peak freshness) and a quaint and modernly furnished back room with more tables good for families or more intimate dates. Food was amazing for the price. My favorite items tonight were the albacore, toro, and the spicy soft shell crab hand roll. Fish portions were great and the soft shell crab hand roll really amazed me. Best Sushi in Temecula Valley? While I haven't been to every sushi place in the area, my new favorite place is now Onori, bar none. From the moment when you take step into the door, you will feel at home in the contemporary yet Japanese decor. And once you bite into the sushi, you will be pleasantly surprised. We came on a Saturday night, the sushi bar was full of, but the rest of the dining had a few open tables. So service was quick and attentive. The restaurant, started by a chef that used to own another such restaurant in the area before closing down is a true master of the cuisine, and I can tell you this because the food did not disappoint. So what did we order? Onori Signature Set Menu. At $40, this is decently priced when you consider all of the items on this omakase-style set. There are three such sets to choose from, and this is the mid-range-priced one, and it includes 8 nigiri, two temaki (traditionally cone-shaped, these are cigar-shaped hand rolls), and one tuna sashimi. Also included see miso soup and edamame. The edamame came with some salt topping, which wasn't bad but not my favorite. First sushi course was the tuna sashimi with soy and ponzu, which is a fresh starter that I kept on the side to keep my palate refreshed. This technique allowed me to sample the sashimi, which comes in sets of 4 on two plates, each piece made of better ingredients than your typical sushi joint -- and better put together than them, too! First plate had (eaten properly in order with the best (tuna) for last): seared black cod (with ponzu and chives, the rice was nice and warm), salmon (complemented perfectly win toasted sesame), shima aji (good prep for the tuna with its refreshingly bright lemon salt and wasabi), and albacore tuna (good finish to this plate with a ponzu and chives). Next came the toro hand roll (my fave) filled with delicious fattiest tuna belly, which dipped in soy sauce to give some extra salty goodness. Then came the second nigiri plate: (eaten in this order) seabream (so soft but with a light bit of lemon and salt), yellowtail (chewier but full of delicious yuzu ponzu), halibut (surprisingly good with a nice detour of flavor in the truffle soy, which you can certainly taste), and the chutoro (fattier tuna, which felt was somewhat melt-in-your-mouth, which was fantastic). The set finished with the blue crab temaki, which is a surprisingly creamy and sweet way to top the meal off. Overall, this set was a good value for the amazing quality and execution, which might go for double in Orange County. The rice was excellent the way that true sushi rice should be, where it's not mushy like in most sad sushi restos(or too hard); and here you can feel each individual grain of perfectly cooked and vineyard rice. Each nigiri was seasoned in the fish or rice with special care and craft, getting the amount seemingly for each bite. Definite recommend if you're hungrier than the smaller set, but not quite as much for the next size up. Gyoza. Sadly, the one dish I didn't care too much for since these are deep fried rather than pan fried. Appears to be beef though and not pork. Good if you prefer crunch all over instead of crispy on one side. Spicy Tuna Makizushi. Maybe the best rendition of a classic roll, the tuna is nice and creamy with just the right amount of wasabi and green onions. Recommend this one since the wife gave me the nod after the first bite and I concurred wholeheartedly. Amazing rice as I mentioned earlier. So was it worth it? Heck yes! And they even got the new Somi Somi for dessert right next store. Was our first time here, and we enjoyed it. Best bang for your buck sushi at top notch level. I would say this is actually on par with Morimoto's in Vegas, which is the best sushi I've had. We will definitely be back and have a seat at the very long sushi bar next time. When you walk in there's a big beautiful bar that wraps around, definitely sit there so you get to watch everything being made. The lights are a little dim and the decor is so clean and inviting. The quality was unreal and tasted like it to match. The fish was clean, no fishy taste, and melted in your mouth. Mixed experiences. We have been here twice so far. First time was great, service and dining experience was high level. Suggestions on the order we enjoy the rolls/ sushi was a nice touch. But the second time was not so great. Felt rushed, and didn't experience the same level of service. For instance, when we had asked which order we should enjoy, the server told us it does not matter... we were caught off guard, and felt silly for asking. We also had to ask for things several times, and we believe we didn't get some items from the set menu... My Mom and I came in on Tuesday around 1 pm for lunch. She's Japanese, and from the moment we both walked in, we were impressed by the sophisticated and understated decor of the restaurant and the clean lines of the beautiful sushi bar. The space is elegant and it is clear that care was taken with the design. We both ordered the "Little Onori" set menu for $28. This was such a fantastic offering and it was delightful to have a meal like this in Temecula! Up until now, there were no other "authentic" sushi places like this unless you drive to San Diego, the OC, or LA. The edamame and Miso soup were a pleasant way to start the meal. We both particularity enjoyed the Black Cod, Sea Bream, and Hokkaido Scallop. So much so that we ordered an extra piece each of the Black Cod and the Sea Bream. As we waiting for our food, two other tables were seated maybe 5 minutes after us and received their food before us. I normally do not care too much for omakase as I can never find myself being full/still being hungry following the meal, and to be completely honest, this one is not different either. However, for the price you pay, you do get some pretty good quality fish for the area. What's nice about this place is that they can accommodate large parties, which was a nice plus compared to some of the other omakase places I have gotten to try. I personally had their Signature Set Menu for 40$, which came with 11 different sushi's and rolls along with Miso Soup. My personal favorite was the Toro, but the quality of each of the fish was nice and fresh. The service was also a pleasant plus and was able to serve all of us very quickly and efficiently. Second time here and wanted to give a review after this visit. First of all, glad that we have a handroll bar in town coz it's one of my fave way of eating sushi. Everytime I go to LA, I always try to stop by Unomi and Saijo just to name a couple. Love the ambiance this place as they have a nice bar sitting area and a few tables towards the back. In these 2 times, I've been here was for lunch on Sunday after church and we were seated pretty quick. So here's the reason why I'm only rating them 3 stars (and that's why I waited to give a review after my 2nd visit to make sure my first impression was an outlier). But for both visits, my experience was the same and here's the reason for my rating (and I hope the sushi chef will make some adjustments). 1. In terms of the quality of fish in their ala carte sushi and set menus, everything is fresh and top notch. 2. Here's why I'm rating them 3 stars is the quality of rice they make for their sushi. It's very mushy and breaks apart easily when you pick it up with your chopsticks. This may sound very minor for a lot of people but for Japanese sushi chefs, it's a very critical component coz it serves as the base. When I went to Japan, a lot of the chefs there even consider the quality of rice more important than the fish (which I understand coz I think they know that the quality of fish they get in Japan is top notch). The rice or Shari, is the foundation of every piece of sushi. It should be made to perfection with the right texture, flavor that complements the fish. And sadly, the couple of times I've visited Onori, their sushi rice is far from perfection. Other than this, I'm very impressed!! So I hope my honest review will give the sushi chef an opportunity to make some adjustments to the quality of their sushi rice!! With so many subpar sushi places in town, I was not expecting much when we dined at Onori for the first time last night. Wow, was I surprised! We were greeted by a friendly gentleman who made sure we were seated promptly. The sushi bar was packed, but there were a few tables available. Our server was friendly and patient while we decided on our order. She also explained the set menus to us. My husband had the Taste of Onori and I had the Little Onori, both came with a small serving of edamame and a piping hot miso soup.
