I can only speak on the breakfast. It's good, affordable, and comes out quick. Nice sized portions as well. You can be in and out within 15 minutes of ordering if you need to. The server is always a sweetheart and takes good care of me. This is a pretty run of the mill diner spot for a quick breakfast. I've heard the Vietnamese menu is dank, but I have yet to go for anything except breakfast. read more

I absolutely love this place, they have the best food and a great staff. The wait can be a little long, but for good authentic Korean food I don't mind the wait. My favorite thing is that they offer American food and Korean, so there is always something for someone there. My bestfriend, husband and I love going here and I'm so glad we found this little mom and pop shop. However the only thing is they only accept cash. Let's start by saying this place is decent for breakfast, standard American items. But, this place would be awesome for breakfast if they added Korean items. The food is good. The only item they have on their breakfast menus is a kimchi omelette. I was able to talk the chef into making me a Beef Bulgogi for breakfast and it was absolutely fantastic. I just wish it was on the breakfast menu because If the chef hadn't been kind enough to make the dinner item for me I would have missed out on a very delicious Bulgogi. Yes I would eat here again and yes I would ask the owners to consider adding more Korean dishes to the breakfast menu!!!! read more

Really no other Korean restaurants in Lancaster. But found out about this place about 9 years ago and it never disappointed.

As a Korean living in central PA, I missed the good Korean food that my mom made and the Korean restaurants that used to be around me. Central PA lacks Korean restaurants so when I came across this place...I was so excited. I can't speak for other items on their menu but their Korean food is not good here. If you want good quality, real Korean food, I would suggested taking a farther drive to Philly, DC, NJ, or NY. read more

Onion 's cafe serves both Korean and American food.We went here,on a friday night around 7:30,only to find out that the place closes at 8pm! As my husband and I LOVE korean food,we ordered the kimchee jigae(a spicy stew with pickled cabbage,vegetables and meat- I ordered it with pork).My husband had the bulgogi.Both dishes were delicious,it came with the usual accompaniments of pickled radishes,fish cake,cucumbers and sauce.The entire bill came up to $21,unfortunately they take only cash. This is as basic a dining experience that you can have, and yet it's really awesome. I've come here for years for breakfast, which is so-so but insanely cheap. So I was underwhelmed by the idea of having dinner here a few weeks ago on a First Friday when my friends ended up here because everything else was sooooo packed. I'm so glad they talked me into coming here. The Korean specialties are as authentic as it gets, and also crazy cheap. My partner spent 2 months in Soeul, South Korea and he was blown away by how tasty and authentic the Korean food was. Definitely add this to your short list. Just visiting the area and was in the mood for ramen. Read the reviews and thought i'ld give Onion Cafe a try. Mistake! I could have saved myself five bucks and bought a package of top ramen and added egg to it. I ate a couple of bites, paid my check and left sorely disappointed and still hungry. I had a early appointment at Jack Williams for tires and decided to walk down Queen St. for breakfast. Never having been there I was apprehensive before entering. The room was small but very accommodating with just a few men enjoying their meal and their conversations and I could see the waitress was very attentive and joining in on some of the conversation, it just felt like a very friendly atmosphere from the old days. The menu offered many choices at a very reasonable price. The waitress took my order and in a very short time my food arrived hot and made perfectly, again it reminded me of days of the old time dinners where the eggs were cooked to your liking and the home fries tasted like real potatoes with just enough brown crispy ones for flavor. I'm sorry I didn't get the name of waitress but her friendly demeanor in serving customers is something you don't experience much of any more. I recommend this cafe and hope you get the same waitress I did. read more

I was here a few weeks ago and truthfully I don't remember what I had, but I liked it. I'd never had kimchi before but I loved it. I'm glad we went there! The waitress was super friendly and passed on some interesting facts about the restaurant and korean food. They did make my noodles spicy when I requested them to even though it wasn't listed as spicy on the menu. Definitely worth a visit! read more

Everything was just perfect!! I called about a week ahead as I was coming with a party of 15. The person who answered the phone could not have been more gracious. She took my information, and told me she would call the next day once she was sure there was a seating plan for us. She did follow up the next day with a call from her personal cell phone. She let me know all was well, and that we could be accommodated. We arrived to a large table designated for us. The service for such a big party was impeccable, and the food was delectable. Onions Cafe has existed for a long time in Lancaster. I first found out about them nearly 20 years ago when I attended a local college. I had never had Korean food before that time but I remember being intrigued by the new flavors and presentation. They still serve Korean dishes as well as standard diner items. I have gone there for breakfast more than I've eaten Korean there. Prices are very reasonable, service can be questionable. Many locals go here and some are on a first name basis. I went there for breakfast today and was seated where I could see the window into the kitchen. The owner/cook quickly prompted the waitress to tend to a group of customers who walked in and the waitress rolled her eyes and told another customer at the counter, "This will be short lived" before greeting the table. When my order was ready the kitchen did not place the plates down. Instead, they were almost thrown. When the waitress brought my food I asked why my food was throwm and she replied, " I don't know. Maybe she is having a bad day" then she sped off. The food was fine but it was unpleasant dining when you see clear tension between staff. Make sure you bring cash because nothing else is accepted. Parking in the area can be tight and is mostly metered. read more

The service was great and the food was good too, my only qualm with my kimchi burger would be have a thinner beef patty, so the kimchi could be more balanced with the rest of the sandwich. We went for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were planning on going to Rachel's Creperie but the line out the door dissuaded us. Too bad, Rachel's has delicious food. But enough about Rachel's... When we walked in to Onion's I was a little put off by how white and poorly decorated the place was, but that shouldn't affect anyone's decision on where to eat. There were no open tables so we sat at the bar. The waitress was busy but a busboy was quick to serve us coffee. We were given menus and were impressed with how cheap the breakfast items were. (I have to be honest, I didn't even look at the pricing for the rest of the menu) After a few minute wait, the waitress returned to take our order. I got eggs with bacon, toast and homefries. The bacon was a little overdone but no biggie. My hubby ordered cream chip beef on toast with homefries. He had no complaints. Our coffee was refilled once and offered a second time. The bill came when we were ready for it, and we left full and happy. We'll definitely be back to try some of their Korean food or maybe one of their burgers. If formaldehyde and Bon Jovi are relevant to your interests then this is the place for you! This place is more confusing than bruce jenner, upon breaking the seal of the front door we were hulk smashed IN THE FACE by the smell of what seemed to be dead animals soaked in toxic waste, after attempting to make a respirator out of my hooded sweatshirt we realized that it was a mixture of chlorine bleach and hot meat gases escaping from the kitchen. Looking over the menu we promptly ordered waters to which we were questioned by the waitress. Understanding that this is the kind of place that has expired 2 liters of off brand root beer from the damaged freight outlet stored upside down in the meat closet so they don't lose out on their bottom line. I wouldn't trust the ice from this place if it went through an osmosis filter 3 times. After debating our choice beverages with the wait staff we began to stare through the cloudy, scratched and bent menu-covers. Seemingly we chose different items so that if worse came to worst we could share one of the plates and not leave in utter malnutrition, after opting for the chips in the hopes that none of our food would touch the recycled 30 weight motor oil used to prepare the poached kangaroo meat. Upon ordering it dawned on me that we're in a Korean Café, listening to Bon Jovi, ordering beef with a massive fish tank that is probably a fire code violation because it blocked the door and was supported by an end table that Goodwill itself wouldn't dare resell. During our low-key discussion where we weighed our options between leaving and army crawling past the shark tank the waitress comes back to take our order: We're not quite ready yet.... SHE SITS DOWN next to us until we decide. By far the most awkward moment in the food industry that I've ever experienced. Yes I'll take chips with my burger, I'm positive that I don't want the upcharge fries. At that moment I realized we were trapped and had to endure the remainder of our visit, which was filled with the same fumes we walked in on. I shoveled my scrambled dinosaur eggs down which was made easier by the coating of slime from the hashbrown.. if you'd call them as such. Bottom line I would never return, avoiding the door at all costs and crossing the street just to pass the restaurant such as you would do if there was a pittbull chained to a parking meter. read more

Great little restaurant! Not fancy or high end by any means, but definitely a great place. Lancaster has very limited options in terms of Korean food, so while the Korean here is not what you'd find in NYC or LA, it's worth your time and money. The waitstaff are very friendly, professional, personable, and made me want to come back. I had the dolsop bi bim bop, and my friend ordered a kimchi-flavored fish soup. Only Korean restaurant in the area. The only thing worth ordering is the pork bolgogi, which is very good. Everything else is bland or doesn't have the right mix of egg and or beef with veggies. I'd go again just for the pork bolgogi. read more

I was really surprised to find a restaurant serving Korean food in Lancaster! After reading the reviews on Yelp, I had to check it immediately. I went with a group of 5 people, and ordered bibimbap, kimchi jjigae, and some teriyaki dishes. They were good, but not like authentic good. Food was delicious! I'm giving this a 1 star rating because I saw one of the waitress eat the Kimchi out of the dish before it was served to us. I was sitting close to the kitchen and while the cook was making our food, she prepared the side dishes, one of it was the kimchi. She scooped it out of the big container onto the little dish then picked off a cabbage with her fingers and ate it! The other waitress, who didn't see this happen, served it to us. No issue with the other waitress, just the one who ate off of our food before it was served to us. read more
