Chicken Katsu
Julia S.

It's just chi, no maek (beer). Got the chicken katsu, spicy boneless and udon soup. Chicken katsu was fried well but no flavor from the chicken itself. It relied on the sauces. The spicy boneless, again fried well but not the same as Korean fried chicken spicy sauce. More like fried and then got some buldakk sauce put on top. Udon soup, good portion and udon cooked well but broth was super salty. I did a take out order but ambiance seems just ok. Service was also just ok.

I already miss this place and can't wait to go back. Super clean and bright place. Service is good, didn't take too long to get our food. This is some of the best Korean fried chicken I've ever had. The seasoning was flavorful, spicy, and umami. I loved the bulgogi, perfect amount of seasoning. The tteokbokki was also enjoyable and I'm so happy they offered two gimmari with it!

Brought my parents here to try Korean food for the first time and they loved it! May not be the most authentic Korean place but it is very good. Bibimbap is a huge portion. The buns were very flavorful. Also had the bulgogi tacos which were so tender. Def want to go back and try the fried chicken. Service was quick and friendly.

Excellent korean fried chicken place. It takes guts to open next to Popeyes, but they have their own flavors. Plus, there are many other options beyond fried chicken. I'll be back to try many other items that I am curious about. There is plenty of parking and good location.

The food was pretty yummy but not super memorable. I want to return. My favorite thing was the pickled radish. It's a great place for families. Ample seating, super clean and great portions. I wish the staff were friendlier / more welcoming but they were fine. I enjoyed my meal and want to return and try more of the menu. Its proximity to all of the touristy Lancaster things makes it a good stop of visitors and locals.

We've had this chicken in similar names/chain restaurants? So we knew what to expect. Regardless being in Lancaster county and having the option to eat any type of Korean cuisine made us super happy! The place is clean, looks a bit understaffed but the staff themselves are kind. I wouldn't expect quick table service if you do eat in during dinner rush. The food is crispy and flavorful on the outside! We loved the chicken drumsticks the most - very juicy. The wings were a bit drier on the inside, but still tender enough to enjoy. That being said, I wouldn't recommend getting take out from here. Places like this are best eaten in house! Ambience is clean, neutral. Not super noisy or loud. (You can also do some outlet shopping before or after since it's right in front of the outlets). Overall recommend if you're planning to eat in and have some time on your hands. It's a great place to get your Korean fried chicken fix!

Finally got to try here as it has just recently opened up. Ambiance/Atmosphere: bright, happy, modern, clean, upbeat Service: if you are new, you come in and need to walk to the back of the establishment where you would order and let them know you are either here for takeout or dine-in. You seat yourself if you dine in. We decided to dine in. The servers work as a team and are very quick and attentive. Food came out within 15 minutes I would say. Staff were very kind and polite! Food: the tacos were very good- flavorful and not dry. Same with the fried chicken- very crispy, not overly battered, skin was super flavorful with the soy garlic sauce and chicken was juicy! The udon noodle soup was the best I've had so far I have to admit. The noodles were light and not doughy tasting, the broth was similar to a miso and not bland. The pickled radish was good (you can also substitute for Cole slaw if you don't like that with your dish). The tofu was an "extra" and I had no idea it came fried, which is the best way to have tofu in my opinion! Overall- will be coming back and do recommend to others to try this place out!

If you're looking for some Korean food this is a very solid restaurant to satisfy your cravings. Considering there aren't many Korean food options in Lancaster, I would give a 4/5 for food. If I take in to consideration how good the food tastes compared to Korean food I've had in general, I would give this place 3/5. Tteokbokki: 4/5 the rice cakes were cooked well. The flavor is on par with what I'd expect for a Tteokbokki dish. Mild spice Pork buns: 3/5 good flavor but meat to bun ratio was off (not enough meat) Bulgogi: 3/5 too salty and there was a lot of onion and mushroom compared to how much beef was served. Drumsticks/wings: 3/5 crispy skin but didn't give me the satisfying crunch/crisp that Korean fried chicken is known for. Maybe it wasn't fresh? Flavors were okay. Chicken was dry on the inside

Excellent food: Korean tacos, pickled radish and Korean fried chicken: half with garlic soy sauce and half with spicy chili sauce.

Visiting Lancaster with my family this week and my wife discovered Chi Maek through a Lancaster forum. We stopped by today for dinner. The restaurant is very clean and friendly. The service was great and our good was fresh, hot, and delicious. Highly recommended!

We love the chicken! Crispy and flavorful, we get half and half, as hubby like the spicy. It's our favorite to order.

The best fried chicken and kimchi in town. The spice levels are not for amateurs or the weak. Go for the heat.

Although she did…read morecheck-in with us regarding our appetizer, she was too preoccupied to check-in regarding our entree, due to her being the only staff in the dining area catering to 4 different tables; understandable but didn't leave us the opportunity to address our issues with the entree (which will be highlighted below) until we paid for our bill and came across someone else by happenstance. The aesthetics were elegant and on the dimmer side, especially if you're seating at the corner tables away from the light, we recommend sitting closer to the light or by the entrance if there's still light out. We really loved the crab croquettes appetizer, which had a perfectly crispy exterior that complimented perfectly with the moist interior mixture of potato and crab that paired very well with the aioli. The crispy potato that accompanied the NY strip was perfectly balanced as well, with the crispiest exterior that I ever had with a potato dish! Unfortunately that was the highlight to the entire dish, for the strip was extremely lean without any fat or marbling to help balance out the leanness of the steak (which is evident in the attached photos below). Usually a NY strip, even if grass fed, would still have a strip of fat on the outer layer, but ours did not have any at all, which you can see from all slices we've made. We weren't hoping for ribeye-quality fats at all, but just one that wasn't completely lean. The creamed spinach was also quite bitter and watery, which definitely diluted its creaminess unfortunately; you can see from the photo the wateriness in the creamed spinach where the cream began separating. We love their menu and the restaurant's elegant vibe, as well as how beautifully the food was presented, but unfortunately we were left disappointed by our main entree. I highly recommend their crab croquettes so please give that a try if you can, I promise you won't regret it! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

The doubles? Exceptional. Soft, perfectly filled, and full of flavor. And the hot pepper sauce? Whew. It didn't just add heat, it elevated an already outstanding dish to another level. I ordered so many doubles I barely had room for anything else but I had to try the dhal and it was exactly what I needed. Comforting, rich, and done right. Everything tasted like true, authentic Trini food, the kind that makes you feel warm, satisfied, and already thinking about your next visit. I was literally craving it every single day for the rest of my Lancaster trip. The space itself is on the smaller side, but really cute and inviting. The service was great: friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience complete. Whether you're new to Trini food or already know what's up, Calaloo will not disappoint. Trust me, you'll be planning your next visit before you even leave.

Stopped in over a convention weekend wanting to support local business and avoid delivery services…read more We typically avoid Chinese/Japanese places during cons as they tend to get packed and take forever to get food just on the sheer volume of attendees all wanting Asian Cuisine. I couldn't fight the sushi craving though so we relented and stopped in on the recommendation of a friend who's a regular here on con weekend. I had a basic combo of California roll, Salmon roll, and tuna roll with salad and husband had a Philly Roll and Eel Roll. Another home run! Sushi was fresh and delicious. Prepared in a good amount of time. We called an order in and in less than 30 min we had our food. Impressive again since this is a pretty popular stop during the weekend.

The single hostess actually seemed surprised to see anyone coming in. The restaurant wasn't dirty per se, but it was cluttered and dimly lit. A motor scooter was leaning up against a wall right inside the doorway. We were greeted with room temperature tap water served in small Styrofoam cups as an opener, very 'low rent', and as it turns out, a grim harbinger of things to come. Perhaps it was morbid curiosity that kept us in her chairs, but we ordered several items off the menu, including sushi, edamame, green seaweed salad, a soup, noodles, fried rice, and salt and a shrimp dish. All of this was served in to-go containers or on paper plates. I got what seemed to be the only drinking glass in the establishment when I asked for a soda with ice. We were given plastic utensils to eat with. The plastic utensils we were given turned out to be a non-issue. With the exception of the edamame, the food was so terrible that none of us endeavored to use those utensils much beyond the first few bites. The soup tasted old and burned, the sushi tasteless, the shrimp suspiciously soft. The noodles were covered with a watery, peanut-butter like substance but without the taste. The white rice placed on the table was clearly old. The fried rice was bland and tasteless. No one in my family could finish their meals. Update: My credit card statement from Sakura lists "88 Chinese Express" - the Chinese restaurant next door.... Is it possible that our orders placed in Sakura, a Japanese restaurant, were farmed out to a Chinese Take-out joint?! Wow!
