Chi Maek is pretty centrally located in a strip mall across from Dutch Wonderland and near many malls and shopping. I was staying in a nearby hotel and drove by almost every day for a week and decided it was time to try it on my last night in Lancaster. When I got there at about 5:45pm there were just a few tables occupied and it was easy to immediately place an order (you can order at the counter, or on a kiosk). I placed an order for japchae noodles and then a 5pc of drumsticks. It ended up being way more food than I bargained for and so I took most of the japchae to-go. The wings were made-to-order and had the characteristic double fry and then were bathed in a yum yum sauce. It was very good and not overly spicy. The japchae was fine but didn't have quite the same star power that the fried chicken had. The noodles were soft and portion was large though which was good. By the time I left about 30 minutes later, the restaurant was packed and there was a line to order that was nearly out the door. I can understand why this is a popular place! read more

We are out of towners and wanted to grab some takeout to eat at the Airbnb. Decided on this place for its reviews and we kinda know what we should be expecting food wise. Glad we did because the food was exactly what I'd envisioned with very little to no deviation. Walking in, we ordered from the kiosk machine the following: 15 piece mixed chicken soy sauce flavor, one order of fried pork potstickers which came in 8 pieces, 1 order of takoyaki which is fried octopus dumplings, 1 bulogi fried rice, an order of kimchi and house cucumbers, and sesame ginger salad with tofu as protein. The order was fulfilled in about 10 mins and it traveled well considering our drive back was about 10 ish minutes. If you are traveling far, I would maybe think twice about the fried chicken as it may get a tad soggy once you finally open the box. For us, everything tasted wonderful especially the fried chicken and bulogi fried rice. One thing I was not expecting was that kimchi definitely has a kick that I am not used to. Stopped in for lunch on a weekday. Atmosphere was very pleasant as the restaurant is clean and bright. The server/front of house employee was very attentive. The Food - really, really delicious. We tried a bit of everything. Started of with the Takoyaki, which was some of the best I've had in Lancaster. The spicy boneless, again fried well but not the same as Korean fried chicken spicy sauce. More like fried and then got some buldakk sauce put on top. Seems to be a Chinese owned and operated Korean Fried Chicken restaurant. They have chi (chicken) but no maek (beer). I don't remember this place being here last year, so unsure of how new it is and/or if they are working on eventually serving beer. The food was better than expected considering the location. Not the greatest, but it was just fine and would satisfy a craving for Asian food. The fried chicken was nice and crispy. The soy garlic flavor was good. The spicy was more of a yangnyeom flavor (I was expecting a spicy soy garlic)- very sweet, even sweeter than the soy garlic flavor. When we come again, we will just stick to the soy garlic. The jap chae flavor profile was good, but I swear the dish was more onions than noodles. It was also a little oily. Despite this, we would probably order it again. The bulgogi bibimbap was at most a Korean style fried rice that you mix on your own, served in a stone bowl. It wasn't quite what you would expect of bibimbap. The dish overall felt dry and I think not using the right kind of rice really failed the dish. It was also an interesting choice to add quinoa (not a knock on the dish, I love quinoa- just different). Would not order again. Next time we come we'll probably try the house fried rice. It was nice to see some gimmari (crispy seaweed rolls) and cheese on the tteokbokki, my favorite additions to the dish generally speaking. The sauce seemed like straight spicy gochujang, and lacked a deeper flavor. Would not order again. The kimchee was okay- not good but not awful. The radish was fine (correct flavor, good cuts, fresh). The house cucumbers were very sweet and over pickled. The restaurant was overall clean and it was pretty busy when we came around 6:30 for dinner on a Friday. We were lucky to find a table big enough for our party of 7, and there was no wait. The bathrooms were decently clean (like I don't feel the need to go elsewhere and order a drink so I can use the bathroom haha). If this were in our hometown we would not come back for a second visit, but considering the area and the convenience (across the street from Dutch Wonderland) it gets some bonus points. I definitely see us coming back and maybe giving some other dishes on the menu a try. Hopefully it sticks around! read more

The food was pretty yummy but not super memorable. I want to return. My favorite thing was the pickled radish. It's a great place for families. Ample seating, super clean and great portions. I wish the staff were friendlier / more welcoming but they were fine. I enjoyed my meal and want to return and try more of the menu. Finally got to try here as it has just recently opened up. Ambiance/Atmosphere: bright, happy, modern, clean, upbeat Service: if you are new, you come in and need to walk to the back of the establishment where you would order and let them know you are either here for takeout or dine-in. You seat yourself if you dine in. We decided to dine in. The servers work as a team and are very quick and attentive. Food came out within 15 minutes I would say. Staff were very kind and polite! Food: the tacos were very good- flavorful and not dry. Same with the fried chicken- very crispy, not overly battered, skin was super flavorful with the soy garlic sauce and chicken was juicy! The udon noodle soup was the best I've had so far I have to admit. The noodles were light and not doughy tasting, the broth was similar to a miso and not bland. The pickled radish was good (you can also substitute for Cole slaw if you don't like that with your dish). The tofu was an "extra" and I had no idea it came fried, which is the best way to have tofu in my opinion! Overall- will be coming back and do recommend to others to try this place out! read more

We've had this chicken in similar names/chain restaurants? So we knew what to expect. Regardless being in Lancaster county and having the option to eat any type of Korean cuisine made us super happy! The place is clean, looks a bit understaffed but the staff themselves are kind. I wouldn't expect quick table service if you do eat in during dinner rush. The food is crispy and flavorful on the outside! We loved the chicken drumsticks the most - very juicy. The wings were a bit drier on the inside, but still tender enough to enjoy. That being said, I wouldn't recommend getting take out from here. Places like this are best eaten in house! Ambience is clean, neutral. Not super noisy or loud. (You can also do some outlet shopping before or after since it's right in front of the outlets). Overall recommend if you're planning to eat in and have some time on your hands. If I take in to consideration how good the food tastes compared to Korean food I've had in general, I would give this place 3/5. Tteokbokki: 4/5 the rice cakes were cooked well. The flavor is on par with what I'd expect for a Tteokbokki dish. Mild spice Pork buns: 3/5 good flavor but meat to bun ratio was off (not enough meat) Bulgogi: 3/5 too salty and there was a lot of onion and mushroom compared to how much beef was served. So I stumbled upon this little gem while on my way to another restaurant in the same parking lot. We saw the this place and decided to give it a shot, and oh am I grateful we did. I had the fried boneless chicken half soy garlic half spicy, onion rings and chicken tacos. The fried chicken was full of flavor, flavor depending on the type, crispy, and the chicken was moist inside. I'm sitting here too full to leave just yet and absolutely relishing in what I just consumed. The onion rings were cooked to perfection. The chicken tacos were an interesting take on them. Chi Maek opened this week along busy Lincoln Highway East across from Dutch Wonderland. This restaurant has been long time coming and anyone who keeps an eye on the local restaurant scene and is a "Foodie" would have already been aware of their transitions and the community's uncertainty. They were slated to be one place but then transitioned to another location and even after their transition the local community was unsure of the progress or projected opening date however now they are open and I had the opportunity to go with a few coworkers for lunch. The place is clean and they do offer table service. The five of us decided what dishes we were going to order with the intention of sharing them family style. In total, we ordered the bulgogi, japchae, pork Buns, Korean tacos and an order of fried chicken tenders (half spicy, half soy garlic). One by one the dishes arrived at the table and we got to sample each dish. Everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed what they individually ordered but also enjoyed every other dish. Even one of my coworker's brother came to the restaurant the same day and ordered the Japchae and I later heard he thought it was excellent. The place is clean. The staff are nice. Service is quick. Two stars for that. Food is, well, not authentic Korean, as others have said. They had the nerve to serve cake that was still frozen. Food is very disappointing. No Korean flavor. Readers probably won't like my assessment, but the execution screamed Szechuan (which would be fine, had I gone to a Szechuan restaurant.) I've eaten excellent Bibimbap in real Korean joints in places with high Korean populations around DC, and know what it should taste like. Best ones are from mini markets and supermarket hawkers, such as in Lotte Plaza and H Mart. Bulgogi was okay, but it tasted exactly like Chinese oyster sauce beef, served Szechuan style with tons of onions. Wish them luck, but Chi Maek, please, what you're serving isn't Korean at all. The Korean radish is lack of flavor too. Bulgogi Bibimbap charge $15.45 per order. Paying too much money for this. The rice wasn't cook in the hot stone pot. They use regular long grain rice instead of Korean short grain rice. Rice cooked separately and scoop into the bowl. The sesame ginger saladVegetables with tofu. The descriptions say it has spring mixed greens, but mine has baby spinach more than spring mixed. The tofu was warm served. How can you bring a cold salad dish with warm tofu? The dressing is sucks.
