My Chicken Pho was just okay; there wasn't anything special about it. I was more put off by the rude demeanor of the staff. When I ordered, I asked for take-home Tupperware, but I was told to come back after eating some food. The whole point of needing Tupperware was so that I could take my meal to go, as I was no longer hungry. There are plenty of other places to try, so next time, I'll go elsewhere. read more

Pretty decent noodle shop. They have a variety of items available here, and there weren't a ton of Thai and noodle places near me in the hotel, so it was a good choice. I tried their classic Thai food, a pad Thai with tofu. I thought it was just decent. There wasn't enough sauce in the pad Thai in my opinion. The tofu was cooked decently and I did enjoy it. This pad Thai had a lot of vegetables that most restaurants do not serve. There were a lot of onions and greens, and me not being a fan of onions, I just wasn't a big fan of the noodle dish. They serve pho with pickled jalapeños along with bean sprouts, basil, and lemon (instead of lime). Food comes out pretty quick and portion is great. Noodle King is the hipster Vietnamese spot in Lancaster to go to. The originally opened on North Duke St. in downtown Lancaster then opened a second location off of Oregon Pike. There was a brief period that both locations closed but fortunately they reopened their downtown location. In the area they are known for offering their 5 lb Pho challenge. A dedicated area on their wall has a collage of all those who have attempted this feat and a framed photo of the one man who conquered the challenge. Beat the challenge and your dish is free as well as gaining notoriety. Another thing Noodle King is known for is their $1 bowls of Chicken Pho on the first Saturday of each month. This event has gained much popularity so be prepared to possibly wait to be seated if you attend. Up until recently you were able to order more than one bowl however they have limited it to one bowl per person to allow as many people have an opportunity to participate in the event. Definitely worth going and they DO sell out! The restaurant itself is small and I actually enjoy this aspect. Being downtown equates to scarce parking sometimes so be prepared to circle the block to find a space. Parking in the area is also metered so make sure you have quarters with you. 10 minutes cost $.25 Noodle King offers traditional Pho, Bun Bo Hue, Banh Mi sandwiches, spring rolls, etc. and sources some ingredients from Vietnam. Prices are very reasonable and recently they began offering a lunch deal for $7.99 that gets you an app, entree, and drink. Noodle King is highly active on facebook and it is there that you can become aware of occasional special dishes they offer. Act fast though because the specials only last one day at a time. Today, I had one of those specials...Vietnamese chicken curry. It was excellent. Nice chunks of bone-in chicken with carrots, potatoes, rice noodles in a bright lemongrass accented curry. I've been coming here since they opened. It is my only Pho house in the county. I've tried others, it's just the BEST. $1 Chicken Pho night (first Saturday of the month) we went but got our regular beef Pho. The broth is divine, beef melts in your mouth and the extras are a plenty. The staff is so on top of it now and their in house hot sauce is awesome!! You can even get it to go!! This place should simply be called Noodle King and not associate itself with the word "pho." It is nothing near authentic. Besides the broth being tasteless (which is the main thing for pho), it was overpriced, and missing a ton of ingredients (no tendon, tripe, cilantro, fat brisket, etc etc). The ingredients that they did have were very small in portion and size. I felt I was cheated. The beefball were sliced into tiny little pieces and was equivalent to one small beefball. There were maybe 2-3 slices of beef steak, some onions and the usual side of bean sprouts, mint, jalepeno slices and lime wedges...it was different to find that there were a few green bell pepper slices next to the jalapeno slices. I don't know if it usually comes with it or they had ran out of jalapeno and was trying to trick us. Either way, I will not be returning or recommend to others. I should also point out that they no longer serve the desserts on their menu. Hey, Noodle King, maybe you should at least find the time to cross it off the menu? I tried to order the 3 color drink which they call "Rainbow Ice." Our waiter informed me they had ran out so I ordered the one below it- with smashed mung bean and coconut. He later came back and apologized that they no longer serve the desserts. Are you serious? Just give me a glass of water. He came back with our water but there were little to no ice in it. It was a pretty warm day. Either turn on the ac or give me a glass of cold water! People may want to come to this establishment to try their 5lb pho challenge but you've been warned, you probably won't be able to conquer it especially when it's not even good. The pho is simply water and noodles. Our waiter was nice though if that makes any difference. Oh and one more thing...I find it ironic that the restroom had a handicap accessible sign but the entrance was not. There were no ramp, only a few steps. Two of my closest friends and I traveled to Park City in Lancaster. Afterwards, the group was very hungry. We decided to eat Pho somewhere in Lancaster. We chose Noodle King because of the 5lb Pho King Challenge. The stipulations were the following: 1. It must be completed within 35 minutes or less. 2. The broth does not have to be finished. You would receive a free shirt and the 5 lb Pho would be on the house. On the other hand, you would have to pay the menu price of $24.99 if you do not complete the challenge. We went during a First Friday in the month of September. Parking was ridiculously hard to find due to its location. I honestly thought there was a parking lot for their customers. Their pictures on Facebook made it seem like they had a big restaurant. I was flustered when I walked into the establishment because it was tiny! Their decor was lovely, though. They had a limited menu but I didn't care because I was there for their pho. The price for a large bowl of pho seem a tad bit high than their competitors around the area. I was utterly disappointed when the large bowl of pho came out. There was only a little bit of noodles in my bowl! I didn't understand why I received such a small amount for the price that I was paying! The meat was scarce in the pho. I had about three to five very, very thin pieces of meat! Who does that?!!! On top of that, they sliced TWO small meatballs into thin pieces!! COME ON!!! It seem like they were trying to make us think that we were getting a lot of meatballs but in reality we were getting TWO small meatballs sliced into thin pieces! Conclusion: The main thing that makes pho good is the broth. Their broth is watered-down which makes the broth taste like water and not beef broth! read more

Second visit to Noodle King has me a little concerned. Food was still very good; loved my soup. Was pleased to find fish sauce added as a standard condiment on the table. Too often at Pho shops it is something one has to cajole from the wait staff. Dining companion had the pork chop sandwich, which is just what it says. Deceptively simple put still plain good grub, especially for someone who distrusts noodle and rice dishes. That being said, I have to admit I was dismayed by the obvious odor of a recent bug/exterminator spray. We were there on Saturday evening; really not a smell that should be present in the dining area on any dining hours, and especially on a high traffic night. I understand the need for pest control in food establishments, but it needs to be done without residual presence for the customer. A minor complaint with the paper and supplies piled on a table outside the kitchen. Seems like there could be a place to keep those to maintain a cleaner look in the dining area. Still happy with the food and hoping this new place will stick. A more careful approach to some basics will help a lot in the long run. read more

Pretty good pho, good comfort food and close to where I work. . Very disappointed though with spring rolls that are full of sliced up pork chops (i.e. leftovers from another item on the menu). Big chunks (not thin slices you'd expect), a bit gristly throughout, the rest of the of insides of the roll sloppily spill out all over too--not wrapped tight enough or something I guess--unlike other rolls I've gotten consistently at other Vietnamese restaurants. And where's the shrimp that's always made this such a treat? (That's right--it's been replaced by chunks of pork! Yum! Not.) Have eaten here about 4 times. But after last experience a couple months ago, I plan to try another restaurant when my Jones for Vietnamese food kicks in. Wah! read more

They have a very limited menu...They did not have the curry chicken that I was hoping for so I got the salad bowl with lemongrass chicken. It was fine but nothing I will return for. I ordered the iced coffee without seeing the price and was shocked to learn its $3.99 for a small cup! The staff was very helpful and pleasant. Good pho cafe serving what seems to be pho nam (southern pho dish) that traditionally is lighter in broth flavor than northern Vietnam pho. I actually appreciate the lighter flavored broth. I agree that the portions are not generous in size. The only non-pho dish tried was the fried chicken leg. Excellent flavors of fish oil with the fried skin offering a sweeter flair than expected. Vietnamese coffee inappropriately sweet and confused me as to why they would need to add that much of sweetened condensed milk. Not sure what is going there. My boyfriend and I both love a big hot bowl of pho so we were ecstatic to come across this gem while visiting Lancaster. On our first visit here (we've come back again since) we chatted with a local man who said he comes here everyday for lunch because he enjoys it so much and told us that the owner makes the broth in house using a family recipe. We were not disappointed. My family had dinner here and were delighted to find authentic, delicious Vietnamese food in downtown Lancaster. I had the combination beef pho and my partner ate spicy bun no hue soup. Both came out hot and delicious -- the spices and flavors are right on (I've been to Vietnam and it was legit). Atmosphere isn't as great as other places, but for me ingredients are the most important, and Noodle King takes the crown with their completely homemade broth (they bowl cow legs down to make their broth base, no msg and no bullion used!). The only thing that I think could be improved on is to use slightly less sugar in their broth (it comes across a little sweet), but it can be toned down with their own in-house hot sauce! read more

Not authentic- quality is more like "fast food" Vietnamese. If you have the munchies over the weekend in the middle of the night after being out, then Noodle King is for you. Sadly, I had high hopes for this place with all the facebook hype. Their Pho is nothing like the authentic Pho. In fact, it's missing a lot of main ingredients. Their Bun Bo Hue is just the same. Their noodle salad and rice dish is missing many key ingredients too. The eggrolls were great- but my friends, family, and myself aren't planning on coming back. We thought maybe it was a fluke, but once we realized basically all the dishes are not authentic, we don't want to waste our money on false advertising. Rice and Noodles is authentic and delish! We have avoided going there because they have no vegetarian options and we saw on their Facebook that they had a vegetarian special tonight with veggie broth AND tofu! how exciting for us because we love pho and could finally try out noodle king but atlas we get their and they hand us their late night menu with pretty much only beef options on it and we asked for the vegetarian special and he went back to the kitchen and came back and told us that they did not have it. very disappointing and we might just give up on trying there. read more

The pho was good, but nothing spectacular - a standard broth with rice noodles, bean sprouts, green and white onion, Thai basil, long Asian cilantro leaves and a wedge of lime but no jalapeno slices. My Pho Dac Biet (combination beef) came with 2 small sliced meatballs, a small portion of rare beef slices and a small portion of cooked beef slices. I actually had to add the hot and overly sweet tamarind sauces to my pho to give flavor the broth. I prefer Saigon Cafe on Manheim Pike & Granite Run Drive - their pho comes with a larger proportion of very flavorful complex broth and meat ingredients. Go there for some very good Bi Cuon, or Guo Cuon, spectacular pho or Hoanh Thanh (chicken soup with pork/shrimp dumplings). read more

First time I found this place I had the absolute best Pho I've ever tasted. I've ordered it at least 4 times since and each time it has been different and not nearly as good. They forget the sauce, they give you different toppings, even the broth has been a different color! They advertise delivery. They have only delivered once in at least 4 tries. It all depends on who answers the phone apparently. Now the Pho I liked I'm told is not available. Then I'm told the menu I have at home has changed and the prices have went up, and the $3.50 coffee I want is now $4.80. All the prices have went up. The problem is they have not changed their menu at all! (meaning my coffee and everything else is still on it! and it's the exact same one I've had at home since May) When I questioned the charge for my pick up order, I was told "oh yeah, those prices aren't right" Well, you print them on the menu and place them in front of your patrons they NEED TO BE CORRECT. They made no effort to apologize or adjust, they just charged me nearly $6. too much and didn't care. In one word, INCONSISTENT. I don't know how they can stay open operating like this. The slightly more expensive and perhaps even weirder Pho Billiards in town has far better quality food, presented beautifully even in Styrofoam! Don't waste your time or money in this place unless you're drunk and hungry after midnight on a Friday and have no other options. read more
