I feel as if this review may be a little unfair since we went for Christmas Day Night. We will start off by saying we would love to go back and try this place on a non-holiday. The environment was nice, decorated for Christmas! Huge revolving tables for large groups who share items! The staff worked hard! It looked like there was only 2 employees working the long wait, tables, and take out orders. They held their own and did a great job! Food took a long time, I think staffing issues, holiday, and how packed the place was factored into this. We were there for almost 2 hours. The food was good, but I wouldn't say it cracks the Great category. The chicken and rice serving sizes were average compared to other places in the area. The Lo Mein serving size was very good! We got General Taos Chicken and Orange Chicken. This place uses a lot of sauce and the chicken is battered heavy. The lo mein was definitely better then the chicken entrees. Finally checked this place out and was not disappointed. The food was delicious and a huge size. We got the scallion pancakes (amazing) steamed shrimp dumplings (four large chunks) beef dry pot (very spicy) and the shrimp and broccoli. There was so many other things we wanted to try but it would have simply been impossible to eat all that. We will be returning soon though. Wait staff was friendly and didn't miss anything. Our first time here, and it was only because the place recommended to us had too convoluted of a menu, so this was the next highest rated Chinese around... It's always a good thing when you walk into any ethnic restaurant and find that ethnicity in large numbers. This place was teeming with Asians, so my expectations soared. Unfortunately, that anticipation was let down by the barely warm food. BUT, it may have been my fault, here's why: I placed the order at 3:15 for pick up at 6:15. I suspect it was ready way before we arrived at 6:10. Anyway, we tried the basics, sesame chicken, combo lomein, steamed pork dumplings, and spring rolls (no egg rolls? Is that even legal?). The sesame chicken was cold with few sesame seeds. While the taste is compromised by both, the chicken was tender, but dry. The lomein had gotten a bit gummy as it cooled too. The pork dumplings were a tad undercooked, but the spring rolls were tender and crisp. In fairness we'll give this place another try and not order in advance. read more

Greatest Chinese food in the area by far. Not even close! The food is authentic; I haven't had good Chinese food like this since Chinatown Philly. Lancaster keeps on surprising with these high quality diverse food. Yi pin is focused on szechuan cuisine and they have it down. All the classics like orange chicken to general tso to szechuan specials like soy based fished and Hong Kong style ribs everything is great. This place needs a bigger seating especially on weekend nights; the place is too tiny for the amount of business they are getting. The service is hit or miss... I had ordered once for take out and they just flat out forgot my food. I had to stand there for 40 min additional after I got there and they kept saying "10 more min". It was the one time I actually got mad but... all other times were ok. I highly recommend this place for authentic Chinese food. Can't do better read more

Delicious Sichuan food in the middle of Amish country. One of our party runs an upscale Chinese restaurant at a resort in the Philippines and he loved the food. We were seated at a large table with a lazy Susan allowing everyone to share and enjoy different dishes. The waiter was attentive and ensured we had what we needed without being overly obtrusive. Spicy Braised Bullfrog: A spicy adventure of Poinsettia I tried the spicy braised bullfrog at Yipinhong, and it really stood out. The texture is a bit like chicken, but much more delicate. Cooked with chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, and garlic, the flavor was bold, spicy, and numbing in the best way. The owner mentioned that the bullfrogs are marinated first to remove any fishy taste, then quickly stir-fried to keep the meat tender. You can tell they put a lot of care into handling the ingredients. It's a great example of Sichuan cuisine's signature balance of heat and numbing spice. read more

This may be the only authentic Sichuan cuisine in the Harrisburg metro area. Sichuan province is known for spicy dishes. The numbing Sichuan peppercorn got its namesake there. There used to be another authentic Chinese restaurant (HE in Middletown) albeit serving different regional cuisines; unfortunately, that one closed for good a few months ago. So for me the stake was high. The dining area was spacious and clean. Plenty of table of various sizes. Ambiance was above average Chinese restaurants. Ample parking spaces on both sides of the building, as well as in the back. There was just 1 staff who waited the tables, took orders, and manned the cash register. He's friendly and quick. The menu book was big featuring many nice photos of their offerings. There was also a separately one-page menu listing specials for the current month. The prices were on the higher side compared to typical Chinese American restaurants, but for the 2 dishes we ordered, the size of serving was quite fair. We waited 15 minutes for the 2 dishes: 1. Hot & Spicy Fish Filet w. Cumin (孜然香辣魚片) $18.95. A lot more fish filets than we expected. The filets were deep fried, crispy and with just enough heat to kick it up a notch. 5 out of 5. 2. Chicken w. Dry Pepper (歌樂山辣子雞) $15.95. I really wanted to try this and compare to 重慶辣子雞 which is a well known chicken with dry pepper dish from Sichuan, whereas, I've NEVER heard of this particular spin (as distinguished via its Chinese name). I was sorely disappointed. The chicken pieces were cut too small and coated with way too much batter. It was really stodgy and got old really quick. 2 out of 5. So far hit or miss. I worked across the street from Yi Pin for a couple of years but never thought to try it. From the outside, it looks a bit run-down--honestly, I wasn't even sure if it was still in business. And after being underwhelmed by every other Chinese food experience I've had in Lancaster, I assumed it wouldn't be worth my time. Boy, was I wrong! I wish I had put this place in my regular rotation when I worked nearby because Yi Pin is hands down the best Chinese food in Lancaster--and honestly, some of the best food I've had in Lancaster, period. The flavors were incredible, and the entire meal was the kind you're still thinking about the next day. The cucumber salad was so delicious that at least half of our seven-person party joked about wanting to drink the sauce. I also loved the pork belly with preserved vegetables and the pork with peppers--both were rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. On top of that, the service was fantastic, the interior was clean and modern, and the owner was incredibly kind and generous. Since we were a large party, they even gifted us a massive hot pot dish featuring perfectly grilled fish, vegetables, and cellophane noodles, plus a grass jelly dessert. It was such an unexpected and generous touch that made the experience even more special. One final note: We went on a Wednesday, and the restaurant was steadily full of patrons--most of whom were Asian, which is always a great sign that you've found a hidden gem. I can't recommend Yi Pin enough, and I will absolutely be back! read more

While I couldn't get the nephew to try anything exotic, the classic fried rice and lo mein dishes he did go for were super tasty. We were in Lancaster, PA and I think we were the only people speaking English in the whole restaurant-- it definitely draws the local Asian American community. That seems like an added vote in its favor!! The restaurant interior is not fancy. It could use a little refreshing and deep cleaning. we were looking for a restaurant that could fill us up and what better option that to go for an asian one (we were looking for rice after all lol) - and so we ended up checking Yi Pin out. When we arrived around 6:40pm the place already had a good number of people and seeing fellow asians dining here was a good sign. Staff and service was good and our food arrived timely. We enjoyed our soup dumplings and pretty much everything we order. The fried rice was delicious and unique, the sautéed cabbage was surprisingly flavorful and the salt and pepper shrimp had a nice crunch. The fried ribs was a crowd favorite as well. There's slim pickings for authentic Chinese food in central PA, but you're really better off traveling the hour east for real flavor and quality. The food here is overly salty and not spicy enough to truly qualify as 川菜, though it seems that they can get away with it due to there being no other competition. When I dined here with my family and friends, we ordered 4 main dishes and were given one small bowl of rice, yet when we asked for more, the owners had the audacity to try to charge us for extra rice even though other tables received one bowl of rice per main dish. Unfortunately, central PA continues to lack an authentic and trustworthy Chinese restaurant, but thankfully NYC, Philly, and DC are close enough to fill that gap read more

This is maybe my.... Fourth time here? Never a disappointment. Personally, I find most Chinese food in Lititz/Lancaster very Americanized and bland. But Yi Pin is a place I bring my family too, recommend to all my friend, and return frequently. They specialize in Szechuan cuisine, my absolute favorite but, most importantly, they do it so well. The flavors are immaculate, full of all the chili, peppercorn and cumin my heart yearns for. The presentation is a bonus, always so colorful and pleasant to look at. It comes out hot, fresh, and always delicious. Also, mega plus for table/family style entrees and hot tea because that just rings nostalgia of my childhood (Chicken with dry chili is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE if you like crunchy and spicy ) Service is definitely top notch, always attentive and on time. They're easy to peg down should you need anything and polite/kind. It is a smaller space so there is limited seating but the dinning room is clean and decorated simply but well. Condiment freshness has always been a key factor from when I did food service and when we visit a new place. The food was good. A little more expensive than elsewhere but the portions are larger. However, the ambiance is not welcoming. We were two people who sat in a booth for 6. There didn't seem to be any tables for 2 or 4. The tables in the middle were large round tables with lazy Susans in the middle. They also sat us near the door which was a very heavy door and very annoying. When the food came, it was in large plates with no separate plate. Guess they don't believe in sharing. This place is truly legit! I spent 15 months in China working for Mars Wrigley building a chewing gum factory near Shanghai, and I fell in love with Szechuan cuisine. When I returned to the states, it was really difficult to find "true" Szechuan food. This is it! I had the Kang Pao chicken and it was amazing! The rice was perfect.
