We called ahead and asked if they would be able to sit a table of four. The staff member said not until an hour later and that was just an estimate. We decide to just go to the restaurant and wait for a table. Only 1/3 of the tables were occupied. The bar had no one sitting at it. I don't know if the restaurant is trying to give a false impression that they are super busy but you can actually be losing business with this narrative, what if I decided to go somewhere else instead of waiting. One of the members in our party was running late, when we asked to put in an order of food in instead of waiting for him, we were presented with attitude. The staff also seemed to be all over the place, interchanging roles. Trinidad food itself has deep flavors and provides a sense of warmth. The food itself was good in general but that's because of the dish itself. It seems like the recipes changed since we visited the restaurant over a year ago - before the chef took a year hiatus. Doubles (5/5) - Fried bread, curried chickpeas, cucumber chutney, tamarind, chadon beni; this reminded me of a desi dish I am familiar with, very good Aloo Pepper Roti (4/5) - Crispy roti, cumin, garlic, habanero seasoned potatoes, cheddar, cilantro lime sour cream; crowd pleaser for sure! it's like if a paratha and pierogi had a baby Curried Fish & Shrimp (5/5) - Lightly fried swai, coconut curry broth, butterflied shrimp, sautéed spinach, jasmine rice; fish is cooked to perfection Pepper Beef Lo Mein (1/5) - it was drowning in the hoisin sauce

WOW!!! i cannot believe i've been living in lancaster for so long without stumbling upon this place. easily one of the best meals i've EVER HAD in lancaster. you can not go wrong with anything on the menu. the plantain gnocchi was out of this world, the coconut jerk chicken was so good i got an order to go. went here after showing some out of state friends downtown lancaster and now they cannot stop talking about how awesome it was. WILL BE BACK SOON

The restaurant looked like someone's living room. We were immediately seated and a QR code was on the table for the menu. I got the Coconut Jerk Chicken. My husband got the Buss Up Shut dinner of curried beef. I really liked my Coconut Jerk Chicken. The chicken pieces were tender and the sauce had the right amount of sweet, savory, and heat. My husband's curried beef tasted bland in comparison with to me. He said it was ok but liked my food better. The bread compared to Indian bread we've had was too doughy and not as crispy. I don't know much of Trinidadian food so this could be very traditional and great. I can only compare it to similar dishes I've had in other places. The coconut jerk was very good. I highly recommend it.

I came by here with my friends to try out this place. Surprisingly, I wasn't disappointed but left with a great satisfied smile. I street parked my car nearby as I didn't see a designated parking lot for this restaurant. Once we entered, we were greeted and quickly arranged our tables and seats. Their service was great. We wanted a dish that is not in the menu and the chef came out to confirm that he can still make that dish for us. Amazing! Really doing above and beyond to their customers. We ordered char siu pork belly over rice and the wings sampler. Both dishes taste very good. The place itself isn't that big, so if you have a big party, maybe it's best to make your reservation ahead of time.

Food was good overall. The doubles tasted great but the flatbreads were dense and pancakey instead of light and bready. The coconut jerk chicken was also good but heavily under salted. And when I asked for salt they simply said no which came off a bit highbrow haha. Nice environment and well decorated.

The food here is absolutely amazing and delicious. Unique dishes that I imagine you will not find anywhere else. The slab of ribs with Mac n cheese is what I had and the meat was tender and fell of the bones. Absolutely to die for. My wife had the Fish and shrimp in a skillet and to too was amazing and delicious. If you're in Lancaster you must stop in for some delicious food.

I cannot believe I am still finding restaurants that are unique and so delicious in the city of Lancaster. Who would have thought?! Trinidad cuisine... A unique combination of Latin American food and Chinese cuisine. I was blown away by the quality, quantity, and price of the place! Quality: everything is cooked to perfection. The bao buns are a MUST get. Out of everything that I ate (everything was great) the bao buns are a top. The ribs are so soft that the meat comes off the bone with a touch of the fork. The coconut jerk chicken was super tender as well and the sauce that it came in was a perfect combination of savory, creamy, and spicy. Quantity: the amount they gave you per dish was probably enough to share between two people. Your palate will be selfish but your stomach might (maybe...) Want to share. The sharable dishes are just enough to wet your appetite, the entrees are enormous portions. Price: my wife and I ate 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and a dessert. It was much less than other restaurants I've been to that gave less in terms of food as well as quality. The food is more than worth its value imo. The restaurant changes its menu constantly which is brilliant in terms of business model as well as the consumers as I love trying new things. I'm sad that they are only open for limited hours and they are packed to the brim. If you are wanting to go (yes you should go if you can) I recommend making reservations at least 2-3 weeks in advance. I'm totally going back

Callaloo is a true gem of Lancaster city. Such good fusion food, packed with flavor and very unique. Fried chicken bao buns are the best and I would recommend to anyone. We also enjoy yuca fries which come with a variety of fun dipping sauces. Fries are a little bland on their own. As far as meals, the jerk chicken was our favorite. Also, the mango lemonade was an excellent drink. If you've never had buss up-shut, please try it. It is a delicious and doughy vehicle for all kinds of curries and stews. Love this place!

My family and I tried this place and so glad we did! Service was great, food was amazing and unique! I had the duck leg and it was probably the best duck I have ever had. My kids had the Korean chicken wings and Mac and cheese pies both were delicious!

Still one of my favorite eateries! The quality has not declined since they've opened and the customer service is still outstanding! They have decided to remain take-out only due to the size of their restaurant and wanting to keep their staff and our community safe. I live about 20 minutes away and the food traveled well. Most recently, I had the Fried Chicken Bao Buns and they were amazing! Please keep these on the menu! Soft, light, airy buns, perfectly fried chicken counterbalanced with a slightly sweet mayo based sauce and refreshing cucumber that adds another layer of texture. Callaloo is always high on my recommendation list and has remained in my top five for Lancaster!

This has been some of the best food I've ever eaten out. I went here for the first time in April 2021 and was blown away. I was itching to go back and finally did this weekend and was very happy with my food once again. We literally drove 2 hours just to eat here. The flavors are absolutely amazing. You have to try the doubles. They're a great starter and fun to eat. The aloo pepper roti is not my favorite as I find the potato to be a little bland, but the people I've gone with have always loved it. The chicken bao buns are really good as well. The main curries (chicken and beef) are a staple and good, but I would suggest trying one of the entrees instead. I really loved their shepherd's pie, which they weren't serving this time. The fish and shrimp curry was delicious. The fish was somehow slightly crispy even tho it was in a thick sauce and was bursting with flavor. The buss up shut is a must have if it's not already included in your main. Oh yeah! Their hibiscus drink is also a good add on. Definitely give this place a try whether you were considering it before or not.

I'm doing a little happy dance in my seat, humming and dancing, cause the Chicken Chili was a flavorful punch of savory and sweet heat. The chunks of chicken were perfectly tender, something many restaurants can't seem to accomplish - so props for DF for succeeding. An order of garlic naan, omg Good - pillowy, butter, fresh garlic LOVED it. This is when the meal begins to descent downward. My fried momo's arrived, though tasty, much smaller than the picture shown on the menu. I was served miniature momos, in my opinion. My hubby, always wanting to try something new, ordered a selroti - the picture showed a stack of four very large onion ring looking things and the menu read, deep fried sweet rice flour, crispy exterior, soft fluffy on the inside. My cuddly dudd socks are soft, fluffy; this interior was hard, chewy; I actually had to continuously chew on it for a few minutes, to get the momentum going, to soften this, whatever it was. And instead of four pieces, we received one (highly doubt my teeth could have handled three more rings). Lastly, my meal gave me a migraine; this was a first for me. When I heated up my leftovers, my migraine reappeared - very odd indeed.

The aesthetics were elegant and on the dimmer side, especially if you're seating at the corner tables away from the light, we recommend sitting closer to the light or by the entrance if there's still light out. We really loved the crab croquettes appetizer, which had a perfectly crispy exterior that complimented perfectly with the moist interior mixture of potato and crab that paired very well with the aioli. The crispy potato that accompanied the NY strip was perfectly balanced as well, with the crispiest exterior that I ever had with a potato dish! Unfortunately that was the highlight to the entire dish, for the strip was extremely lean without any fat or marbling to help balance out the leanness of the steak (which is evident in the attached photos below). Usually a NY strip, even if grass fed, would still have a strip of fat on the outer layer, but ours did not have any at all, which you can see from all slices we've made. We weren't hoping for ribeye-quality fats at all, but just one that wasn't completely lean. The creamed spinach was also quite bitter and watery, which definitely diluted its creaminess unfortunately; you can see from the photo the wateriness in the creamed spinach where the cream began separating. We love their menu and the restaurant's elegant vibe, as well as how beautifully the food was presented, but unfortunately we were left disappointed by our main entree. I highly recommend their crab croquettes so please give that a try if you can, I promise you won't regret it! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

Perhaps it was morbid curiosity that kept us in her chairs, but we ordered several items off the menu, including sushi, edamame, green seaweed salad, a soup, noodles, fried rice, and salt and a shrimp dish. All of this was served in to-go containers or on paper plates. I got what seemed to be the only drinking glass in the establishment when I asked for a soda with ice. We were given plastic utensils to eat with. The plastic utensils we were given turned out to be a non-issue. With the exception of the edamame, the food was so terrible that none of us endeavored to use those utensils much beyond the first few bites. Introduction:…read more Representing 2018 in alphabet series, O is for On Orange. The letter O only has 5 of the 8 possible years represented in the alphabet series. Interestingly, 2 of them are in Lancaster County, PA. This was prior to my parents moving to Lancaster in 2021. In March 2018, my girlfriend of that time & I took a day trip to Lancaster. I lived in Montgomery County, Maryland (near DC) at the time, and we were meeting up with a friend who was living in New Jersey kind of in the middle. We agreed to meet at On Orange at 12 PM on that Sunday, March 25 since we were driving from far away, and I think they were doing a day trip too, but possible they stayed a night in town, not sure. Also, On Orange closes at 1 PM too, so even more reason to be punctual. My g/f of then was notoriously late & took a long time to get ready. She was taking too long to get ready, and I knew we needed to leave if we even had a chance of making it on time. After a while I said I don't want to do this, but I will leave without you & meet my friend (& his girlfriend). I started the car and texted you have 1 minute to come out, and if you aren't out, I'm leaving without you. My timer reached 0, and I slowly was driving off, but I saw her shuffling with her coat and what have you leaving, so I waited. We got in the car, and I rushed off. If that weren't bad enough, my g/f said we needed to stop at her bank to get cash. Of course, there was none right within route, but saw a location right off I-83 in northern MD, Hunt Valley, but we wasted more time to get off the freeway, for her to go to her ATM, & get back on the freeway when we were running significantly late. I said we are running significantly late as it is, so why are we wasting more time. She claimed in case there was something she wanted to buy in Lancaster, but that was not the primary purpose, but I'll get to that at the end. I was panicking on the significant late, and that the restaurant closes at 1, and I drove above 100 mph at times on I-70, which I think was the only time I've ever gone that fast on 70, and maybe only 4 times ever in my life reaching that speed. Experience with the Restaurant: This is street parking around here, which was free meters on Sunday. We got a decent parking spot a block away. We walked in at 12:50 PM, which was 50 minutes LATE and 10 minutes before On Orange's closing time of 1 PM. My friend & his girlfriend were already done eating. He said that they had their stomach set for eating at 12, and there was pressure to order since it's not a huge place and pretty busy. I was annoyed with my friend for not waiting for us, but I get it because let's be honest, my g/f fault on that one. Server was cordial, and my g/f & I quickly ordered. Food came out quickly. We ate quickly, and my friend & his g/f watching us eat. Food was delicious, and they were quick, but to be fair, they were closing in 10 minutes, so they were motivated to get out of there. I got a pancake & egg dish as I recall. This was a top notch brunch. In spite of the negative experience of being so late because of my g/f, the experience at the restaurant was excellent. Conclusion: After brunch, we looked around downtown, Amish Farm (see my 5-star review of them written in April 2018), etc. and was overall a nice day with the 3 of them albeit very cold. After we left, I took the back road from I-83 all the way back to Germantown, MD where she lived to see something different and to save a little gas too since it's pretty direct going that way. My g/f was complaining about it taking so long getting back. I knew she was meeting up with a friend that night. But what I later realized, she wanted to stop at an ATM that morning really because she needed cash to pay that friend for cannabis that night. So, she disrespected everyone's time for this. I guess on a positive at least she wasn't cheating on me with that guy and really was just for pot. In conclusion, I thought On Orange was top notch, and they were accommodating to our time schedules.
