Definitely lemony, custardy egg thick and rice; this is something I'll need to compare with another, avgolemono. Perhaps the addition of a bit more chicken stock (to thin it out) and some larger pieces of chicken, would have evened out the flavors. Back to Lancaster's Greek restaurants, to include "gyros;" they're hella good, but expensive, elsewhere within Lancaster. I know; I've heard it all before: we make our pita and dips from scratch, our feta is flown in from Greece, fries are hand cut (yeah yeah, yadda yadda) and you leave, wondering why your bill for two gyros, was near to $70. This was not the case with Souvlaki Boys and they're gyros are just as good, tender, savory meat, soft pita, stuffed with your choice of homemade tzatki sauces, feta, loaded with fresh, crunchy salad veggies and yes, hand cut fries - all within this gal's budget. read more

I'm not too fond of city driving but I wanted something for lunch that wasn't a chain restaurant so I stopped by Souvlaki Bros. Luckily, there's a private parking lot behind the store that you can park or you can street park. I think there is garage parking a short walking distance away. It's a quaint corner restaurant with indoor seating. You can dine in or take out. There's a bench to use if you're waiting for take out and there's probably enough seating for about 20 guests. Food is made to order. Expect to wait. The staff tells you ahead of time that it may take 15-20 minutes to prepare. I'm perfectly Ok with waiting for a freshly made order. The staff was super friendly and patient as I wasn't sure what I wanted to order. I opted for the classic gyro but without fries inside the pita. When we got our food, the gyro did have fries. The girl who brought our food offered to have a new one made without fries but we kept the gyro as is. The fries on the gyro didn't overtake the sandwich so it was actually pretty good. Ordered a side of fries also. Seasoned perfectly and not too oily/greasy. We never had baklava before. That dessert was very delicious. It was warmed and dusted with cinnamon as suggested by staff. So I LOVE this place but never appreciated it until tonight. Long sort short I can't eat like I used to and when my husband said Greek I owed it to him ( because I've been awful to him lately) but I wasn't sure what I would be able to eat. I knew that their produce was fresh, with good quality protein and delicious pitas. Things that I now struggle to eat in large amounts at the same time (unintentionally). Little did I know about the build your own bowl. The days of the soggy pita are gone! ( which honestly broke my heart because their pita is delicousssss) That I can have " the perfect bite" adaptable to what I imagine are lot of different dietary requirements. We also ordered our favorites like the spanakopita, the tripota? (Fried cheese appetizer) reminds me of Turkish cigar appetizer we got from my favorite place in Medford, NY. I was so excited when my husband found this place! He ordered three gyros to go. Service: They didn't ask him if he wanted the platter or sandwich, they just gave him gyro platter that comes with rice, slices of pita, and a salad. We wanted a gyro not the platter. But that's not as bad as when I had consumed a large part of it when my son runs up to me and took the tray out of my hand because I was eating PORK!!! I'm ALLERGIC TO PORK!!!!! When the hell was gyro a pork plate??? It's supposed to be lamb or beef and lamb combo, not pork! It's not stated on their menu what meat it is nor do they tell or ask what meat! So minutes later I began getting hives!!! Looking through their reviews, 3 years ago they responded to a Muslim about better signage and they still haven't. We stopped by after outlet shopping in Lancaster. It's a Saturday and street parking rules were in effect; therefore, we were very pleased to find there's a lot dedicated for restaurant parking. We ordered an Athena Pork Pita and Chicken Souvlaki Greek Feast.  It took at least 15 minutes for the orders to get ready.  The Athena Pork Pita was on point and came with a refreshing mix of vegetables.  The Greek Feast came with 2 skewers of chicken on a bed of rice and pita wedges. A spring mix salad was served separately with olive oil dressing.  Tzatziki sauce was provided on the side. We thought the food was quite good.   The only annoying aspect of our visit was the menu prices were totally unreliable. The chicken Greek Feast was $12.50 on the menu but we were charged $15.25; the pork pita was $8 on the menu but showed up as $8.40 on the receipt. read more

This was my first visit to Slouvaki Boys. My father and I were greeted immediately upon entry. We took a moment to look through the menu. There were excellent options. We ended up settling on the Greek Fries, the Apollo Gyro and the Zeus. The Zesty Tzatziki on the Apollo was phenomenal. I will definitely return to try the Halloumi! Man did it sound good. read more

Food consistently good, but organization and order tracking is lacking. Online ordering and timing seemingly disconnected from actual experience. Ordered online 5:50 pm. Website and email said 6:05 pickup. When I arrived, was told 10-15 more minutes, so I had a seat. Time passed and I heard nothing, so decided to inquire @ 6:40. Slip was lost??, but most of order was ready. Left at 6:50 pm. It's ok to be busy, but online should approximate actual time better and there has to be better awareness of orders and who is waiting. The salad was excellent topped with their homemade Greek dressing which was remarkable, as a matter of fact, I was able to purchase their dressing, sold at the counter! I had driven past Souvlaki Boys probably one hundred times before we stopped here two weeks ago. We have already made tentative plans to go back again, that is how amazing this food was. I live for pretty much any food that involved olives, so greek food has always been a favorite of mine. All that to say, I've eaten a lot of it, and this is some of the best I've ever had. When you walk in you're greeted by everyone working in the open kitchen, and you immediately know that you are wanted here. The ordering process is easy & staff are extremely helpful if you have any questions. We ordered the small hummus platter for two, and it came out within minutes of sitting down at our desired table (self-service seating). The hummus was fresh and well seasoned, but the pitas were the real show stoppers. They were light and warm and just amazing. By the time we were done snacking on the hummus our mains came out. We ordered a classic gyro pita & the pork souvlaki platter with a side greek salad. I eat at least one or two greek salads a week so I had high hopes after the starter. This side salad was an extremely generous portion, and had a good mix of everything classic you'd expect to be in it. The large pita was topped with fries, was so juicy, & the souvlaki was just perfect. Well cooked, perfectly seasoned, we would not change a thing about the platter. My single and only change next time would be requesting more olives on the salad, but that is truly just a matter of preference. I was expecting great things and it was pretty blah. I ordered the Athena pita with pork souvlaki and extra feta. It wasn't that good. The pita was dry and impossible to bite through, so I unrolled it and ate the inside first. The pork was dry on the outside, undercooked in the middle (slightly pink and gummy), and was pretty flavorless. When I eat souvlaki, I expect vibrant flavors including lemon, garlic, and oregano. All I tasted was a char that seemed like it was done on a gas flame and a lot of burnt oregano. No lemon. No garlic. The only flavor of the entire sandwich that stood out was the burnt oregano (which isn't pleasant and is, unfortunately, bitter and off putting in large amounts). The pork was also too big to bite in a sandwich so by unrolling it I also had the opportunity to cut the pork into smaller pieces. The pork was also very "chewy" and that can either be blamed on a chewy pig, the cut they used, or not marinading it to make it more tender. The lettuce was floppy and half of it was actually mushy. The lettuce mix also included spinach (which I don't like raw). The tomatoes were fine. I normally don't like a tzatziki sauce on a pita sandwich but it was actually the best part of the sandwich. And, had there not been sauce, the sandwich would have been entirely too dry to eat. The amount of feta was miserably small. The sandwich desperately needed salt and acid. The feta typically gives some of the saltiness needed. I ordered extra feta and there wasn't even enough to taste it as I ate. If what I got was extra feta, I'd like to see what they normally provide. I feel like I wasted money on thin air instead of getting extra feta. I should have asked for it on the side to make sure I actually got something. I saved the pita for the end. I folded it in half, hoping the filling had helped soften it. Nope. It was like chewing a bread version of beef jerky. I wish it was a softer, thinner pita that actually can be easily bitten through so you can enjoy it as part of the sandwich (and not have to do what I did and eat it separately). It was just too dry. My husband ordered a Greek salad then added chicken and pork souvlaki. He was in the mood for olives and it was one of the few dishes that offered them. The lettuce was Romaine and looked fresh and crispy (not floppy like mine). The olives were standard jarred (or canned) kalamatas. He also received just a light dusting of feta. He thought the chicken souvlaki wasn't as good as the pork. I didn't get to try it. The salad dressing didn't seem to be a house-made dressing, but maybe it was. Never had a bad experience ordering food from the Souvlaki Boys. The service is usually pretty speedy and quality is very good. I'm embarrassed to say I've lived in Lancaster nearly four years and only today tried Souvlaki Boys. Wow, does it live up to the hype. I did a build your own pita with gyro, zesty tzatziki sauce, tomato, red onion, lettuce, feta, and fries. Everything tasted so fresh. The gyro did a great job of standing up flavor-wise to the red onion. The sauce pulled it all together. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Situated at the corner of W James St and N Queens St, you can't possibly miss this Greek establishment sporting the traditional blue and white. And with the word "Souvlaki" in Greek font, you know you're in for some serious gyro treats. Today we decided to expand our horizon a bit and try something other than the typical gyro meat. We ordered the Classic Pita with Beefteki which we had never tried before. The texture of the meat resembles that of an Impossible burger but the taste was unmistakably beef. Along with fries added in the mix, it was a very different experience. It was good. The red onions and tomatoes tasted very fresh. We also ordered Athena Pita with Chicken. The Athena had feta cheese on top of red onions and tomatoes and really kicked the taste up a notch. The tzatziki sauce was perfect. I'm a fan. I like the food here better than Hellenic Kouzina which is in my neck of woods in Mechanicsburg, in terms of portion size and taste. However I have to take off one star because of total confusion on how they priced my order. To be sure, you're not paying the prices on the menu. There was a sign in front of the order counter that said "Prices have changed due to the current conditions". But it was like 15% more. I asked just to make sure I got what I ordered, so they printed out an itemized receipt for me. So for the Chicken Athena it's $7.00 on the menu and they charged $7.25 plus $1.00 for the protein; for the Classic Beefteki it's $7.75 on the menu and they charged $6.75 plus $2.00 for the protein. Go figure. Granted, the delicious meal was still a great value, but I was a bit annoyed not knowing how I was paying for my food. I order a lunch catering for a meeting and this was the first time that I saw my employees go back for 2nds and 3rds! I meant to take a picture but it disappeared before I had the chance. The meat execution and the flavor profile on this gyro were off. I'd suggest they go back to the drawing board. I'm confused with their current rating. I ordered several of the original Gyros for delivery from this spot. I was fairly disappointed. The gyros came on soft and chewy pita bread. From there the situation rapidly deteriorated. The meat on these was chunked, not shaved. Thus the meat had far too much chew, which totally compromised the palate experience. Before you criticize this opinion, please note I was in Athens this past Fall and indeed tried several excellent traditional renditions of the pita-based sandwich. My standards are high for Greek Food specifically Gyros! This establishment had high ratings so I just knew that my expectations would meet reality. Sadly they fell short. The Greek fries were soggy and the gyro just didn't have the flavor I have come to love. I did not even realize that the gyro i ordered did not have cucumbers which for me is a MUST. My coworker found this on our way from Lancaster to another assignment. Everyone in the car loves Mediterranean food and we were starving. Headed straight there as soon as we clocked out. It's very very small inside, but it's not cramped. The pews are a bit hard and will remind you of when your grandma would whisper, "Just wait until we get to the car," into your ear during church because you kept acting up. Yeah. Good times. Anyway, we get inside and I already know what I want. I mention the pork souvlaki and I'm told it'll take 12 minutes to cook. It's so nice to get freshly made food when you're on the road. That doesn't happen to us a lot. Time constraints make us slaves to fast food joints. My coworkers ordered pitas. One got the Hercules and the other got the Olympian with a side of turkey noodle soup. Both loved their meals. Said probably the best pitas they've ever had. I wish had I checked into Yelp before they had ordered so one of them could have gotten a free drink, but I wasn't fast enough. Just hungry and fat enough. The people working there were super friendly! Some people even came from the back to say hi. I love stuff like that. I ordered the field greens and goat cheese salad with a side of the lemon vinaigrette. Added some pork souvlaki and egg for protein. The flavours in it was wild. The field greens were fresh and brightly coloured. Didn't find a single wilted leaf... mainly because I scarfed down my food. The acidity of the vinaigrette cut through the fat of the walnuts and goat cheese, which was a delectable combination. Red peppers brought a nice twang. Since egg makes everything better, I had to savour it. Mmm~ Nice. I love it when the edges of a fried egg gets crispy. Oh my goodness~ The pork souvlaki was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Had a nice chew to it. Could have eaten a plate of that by itself. My meal came to about $13 and it was well worth it. Sent some pictures of my meal to my mother just to taunt her.
