I was blown away with flavor! This place was incredible. I had a Lomo Arepa, and it was so juicy and flavorful. The sauces that came with were also delightful. The space is beautiful as well, with lots of live plants and cute wall decor. The service was efficient, and everything was prepared fresh. I'm coming back the next chance I get! read more

If you haven't had an arepa yet, don't write this place off. This popular fast-casual South American spot does arepas right. If it's your first time, order the Pernil Arepa. Inside a corn arepa comes honey BBQ pulled pork, black beans, shredded cheese, and sweet plantains. Chimichurri sauce and a green aioli comes with it. Both are excellent. Before you dig, grab lots of napkins as it can be messy. Their hibiscus lemonade goes well with the arepa. The space comes with plenty of tables and two restrooms in the very back. (Before you try to find them, grab the bathroom key by the back door.) read more

The food here was off the charts. This is their brick and mortar shop. I first read about this place as one of Yelp's top restaurants based off their food stall location. It's completely surprising a Peruvian spot in Lancaster would be so delicious. You can order ahead and pick up your dinner. The kids loved the food and I ended up having so many leftovers I took much of it home and enjoyed it for later. The rice bowls, yuca fries, and arepas are all fantastic. You can't go wrong. read more

We stopped in here based on Yelp for food and beer. Oops--brewery is long gone! No beer for you! Soft drinks only. Shared a bowl and side of the plantains. Very, very disappointing. The plantains are like stewed apples. They're a greasy, wet mess, no slight firmness at all. We have eaten from a food truck in Michigan that does Arepas, and they are far superior & their plantains are perfection too. Your food here comes in styrofoam throw away containers. The interior of the restaurant is very cute but the food does not live up. Disappointing experience. read more

Chellas on Queen - Chicken chimichurri bowl with black beans, rice & the 'plantains' - Gluten-Free Near Me - Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Chellas on Queen is simpy overrated. I think it has great reviews because there aren't many places like it in Lancaster. It's a counter service place with a lively atmosphere and nice enough service, but I just found the food to be disappointing. I had a lomo arepa and my colleague Mike had it over rice. He liked it more than me, which is the only reason I'm not giving it two stars. I thought it was over salted and an oily mess. read more

Not sure why it took me so many years to try this place out, but I'm glad I finally did. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Lancaster PA. Tons of flavor and a very clean meal option in my opinion. I've tried both the truck and the brick and mortar, no difference at all. Both are equally good and highly recommend trying either one. read more

Food was very good and the chica drink was well done. Reminded me of one my family use to make. The vegetarian bowl is a good balance of sweetness and savory. Use the sauce they give you on the side. It is definitely a flavor enhancer! Wish this place the best and hope to see them succeed and expand as much as they want too! read more

Food was absolutely delicious. I got the chicken bowl and my husband the chicken arepa with Yuca fries. Service was unexpected. You order on a screen and wait for your name to be called. It was very loud especially for 2ish pm but otherwise would absolutely eat again. read more

My husband and I were glad to see this restaurant open on a snowy night! I ordered the vegetarian arepa since I was craving plantains. The food came out pretty quickly. The arepa came with black beans, sweet plantains, cotija cheese and avocado. The flavor was really good however it was stuffed and hard to eat. Hard to get everything all in one bite; it felt like I was mostly eating one ingredient at a time. I really loved the yuca fries and the chimichurri and aioli sauces it came with. I would definitely come back and try one of their rice bowls! read more

Came here while in visiting Dutch Wonderland and found this place on Yelp. I got the Pernell Arepw and it was delicious. The chicken bowl was also very tasty. The chimichurri sauce and spicy are excellent and fresh. The picnic tables and music on cool summer night was absolutely perfect. Great experience, great food. When I am back in town, I will definitely stop by. read more

I read SO MUCH about Chellas food truck, that we HAD to try the 'brick and mortar' location when we were in the area! Walking in, the volume of the music was SO LOUD we had to shout to each other in order to hear ANYTHING. It was super busy and the seating was uncomfortable, so we knew it would be a 'to go' order. There was a passionfruit mousse advertised, but it had already been sold out by the time we got there along with several other items. Awww RATS! I feel that the 'sauces' are the flavor-stars of the show! The chimichurri sauce is very herby and flavorful! My Chicken Arepa (on lifting it up) had a tablespoon or so of oil underneath it. . . uh oh. . . not good. I know different cooks can yield different results but I would choose the 'truck' location if I'm back this way again. read more

I've been to the food truck location before, but this time decided to try the location on Queen. You can order on the kiosk or at the counter. There are many different arepa choices, bowls, sides, etc. Everything can be customized to your preferences. My husband ordered the pernil arepa and I ordered the vegetable saltado with a fried egg, pickled onions, and plantains added. Everything was fantastic!!! Tons of flavor and the portions are generous. Cute decor inside. Both bar style seating and high top tables are available. Service was quick. The house made juice drinks are also incredible. I cannot recommend this place enough. read more

The brick and motor of the famous chellas food that was rated so high on yelp top 100 was pretty decent. The food came out pretty fast once you order via kiosk. I wish the portion for the meat was a bit more to match the rice and beans in the bowl. The yuca fries were amazing as always though. The store kept the original layout from how cabalar left it. The bathroom keys were "missing" from the usual spot so you need to ask the worker for it. Food is good; worth trying if you're in the area read more

Closer to a 4.5 then a 5 for me but I will round up! The food was very flavorful and the online ordering was quick/easy. We liked the variety of options on the menu. We ordered the vegetarian bowl and the chicken arepa. Both had intense flavors and came with excellent side sauces. We ordered the Brussel sprouts on the side and they were fantastic! We also ordered a side of Yuca fries. Rather than an actual side dish of fries we received a total of 3 fries on top of the bowl. I understand we ordered a small side but please do better than 3 fries (see photo). Otherwise, this would have been a perfect meal! read more

Visited a few months back and loved it so much that we decided to visit again. Not sure if our memory falsely inflated how good the food was, but it didn't live up to our own hype. Don't get me wrong. Food is still good and worth giving a shot, but seasoning did not pack the same punch this time that it did last time. Maybe too little salt, too little vinegar... not sure. Still worth checking out, maybe it was just an off day. read more

Pickup order placed online yesterday for 11:45 AM. We arrived a few minutes early and it was just about ready. The place smells amazing. Packed up neatly with plenty of silverware, napkins and sauces. I think I dropped the ball by ordering the vegetarian arepa with guacamole. The arepa itself was very hard. Too hard to handle and eat successfully. Others got bowls and I was bummed to have to skip the arepa altogether due to its hardness. Was it the takeout? We only drove 10 min down the road and opened immediately. Loads of black beans and the chimichurri sauce was legit! My wife's chicken bowl was quite good. Plantains fantastic. Ah well. Not a good sandwich with what I was handed yesterday. read more

Nice little eatery along Queen Street. You order from a reception area, pay and find a seat. Tables and single seating available. Mad Chef Brewery Beers are available too. Had a bowl with chicken, rice and black beans. Plenty of food, fairly priced, chicken tender as it gets and copious amounts of rice and beans. Solid choice, healthy, good flavor! read more

We've eaten at Chellas many times over the years, usually at the Greenfield location, and have always had a great experience. That's why our visit to the Queen Street location was so disappointing. The service was friendly, and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food was nothing like what we've come to expect. We both ordered the grilled chicken bowls, the chicken didn't seem fresh based on its taste and appearance. It reminded us of leftover chicken that had been reheated, as there was no fresh char from the grill and several pieces had a gray color. We tried to eat what we could, but eventually packed up most of our meals because we just couldn't finish them. Almost immediately after eating, we both developed severe headaches. Between the quality of the chicken and how we both felt afterward, the experience was honestly unsettling. It's unfortunate because we've really enjoyed Chellas in the past, but this visit fell well below the quality we've come to expect. We hope this was just an off day, but based on this experience, we don't plan on returning to this location. read more

I've always gotten the arepas at chellas today I tried their pork bowl. Probably one of the best things we ever had top with the chimichurri and aïoli. You'll have yourself a time. The slow roasted pork is so tender and a honey barbecue sauce is some of the best I've had. Not to mention they have the purple drink, Chica Miranda I think I said that correctly, probably not but one of the guys told me if I call him, he'll make me a half a gallon for purchase just goes to show some of the attention to detail the purple drink can't be missed. Stop in you won't regret it. read more

Soft opening at their 2nd location. Owner taking advantage of an indoor space on a snowy day. Food is consistently delicious. Sauces are yummy. Incredible. Best thing I have eaten in months. It was a special called AY CARAMBA I highly recommended getting that if still available.

I had an order delivered by Grubhub. It was my first time eating, and I got the la Roxanne and yucca fries. This arepa was hands down fantastic! It had fresh herbs, seasonings, and the steak was cooked to perfection. The layer of cheese on top melted together, but still also crumbled in your mouth perfectly. For anybody wanting a really good meal I would recommend this place. It is now my new go to. The sandwich was in the category of gourmet! read more

I ate "Pernil Arepa"! It was very delicious! Combination of pernil, black beans, sweet plantains, and cheese was really great! Kindly personal taking orders and preparing food! I would recommend this restaurant 100% if you are visiting or living in Lancaster, PA! 10 out of 10! read more

Really good food. Friendly staff. The place was busy--we had to wait a few minutes for a table, but worth it.

Food is delicious, decor and music takes me at least part way to Peru. Arepas are finger food and as such can be quite messy. There are 2 hand sinks in the restaurant with a hand soap dispenser. After eating I went to wash my hands. I soaped them and then discovered the water to the sinks was disconnected. Turns out the bathrooms are on a different floor, not at all convenient for messy hands. read more

My son and I went for lunch today for the first time! We ordered quick and easy at the kiosk and had our food in no time. I have no pictures as we inhaled our food! We stumbled across this arepa place on the way back from NY and whoa, what a find. I'm sure it's all amazing, but my Chimichurri Chicken Arepa was otherworldly. This is currently the fifth highest rated restaurant on Yelp. Top 5? Yeah. I can see that. Don't miss it when in eastern PA read more

Chellas on Queen - Yum. - Gluten-Free Near Me - Lancaster, Pennsylvania

The Best Arepas around!   We stopped by the new restaurant on Queen St for dinner and had a great experience. The service was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The restaurant is set up as an "order at the counter then find a seat". They will call your name to get your food. High top tables, a long low bar table, and multiple 2 person tables are available.  The menu is entirely gluten free.  On this visit we tried the pernil Arepa which contained roasted pulled pork, sweet plantains, black beans, and shredded cheese. The arepa was stuffed full of ingredients and was bursting with flavor. We also tried the fried yucca with the cilantro aioli. They were cooked perfectly and the aioli was very flavorful.  On the next visit we plan to try the different bowls they have.  A nice addition is having the Mad Chef Brewing taproom in the back. While they share the same restaurant, due the PA archaic liquor licensing they are a separate entity.  There were a nice variety of beers to try (F-18 flagship IPA) and some canned cocktails. Overall a great new addition to downtown Lancaster. Definitely worth the drive from HBG to check it out! read more

Wonderful food. Wonderful people. Owner Luis welcomed us on our first visit to Chellas. Chef Diego prepared a beautiful Chimichurri Chicken Arepa which was stuffed full of tender chicken, avocado, and fresh tomato. My husband had the Pernil Arepa which had pulled pork and black beans. Delicious. The plantains were fabulous - nicely sweet and perfectly caramelized. Plus the house-made soft drinks were great: Pineapple Passionfruit and a Cucumber, Mint, Lime - served in an ice-cold pouch like a grownup juice box. Go, visit, and eat. You'll enjoy it! read more

Love their food! I've tried multiple items on the menu and have been impressed with everything. Highly recommend!

first time i tried it...it was delicious. the dishes were unique and very tasty. i will definitely go back.

SO good and I was able to make it dairy free. The staff were very kind and helpful. Will be back!

Food was absolutely 10/10!! 1000% percent would recommend. My girlfriend and I travel an hour weekly just to get Chellas!!

I have always loved Chella's arepa kitchen, so I was so excited to come to this new downtown location! The atmosphere is so on brand for a South American family experience. It's colorful, comfortable and perfect for the whole family. I love that they're 100% GF, so it's easy to feed everyone. Their service is speedy and so consistent. I absolutely love their Roxana arepa and their Inca sprouts. I probably eat at one of their locations weekly. It's a can't miss and so cool they got #5 on this year's top 100.
