Rice pudding

Unsure on how to explain the location of Babylon. It's in a sort of mini mall, where there's a gem store, hookah lounge and bead/jewelry making class. Walk a little further; you're almost there. Towards the back, is a small, mostly carry-out, mom and pop Iraq grill. There are only two tables, to the right of their entrance, situated in the mini mall. Owners appeared unable to describe the flavor profiles of their food/desserts. That's okay, since their bold flavors - spoke for themselves. The shawarma sandwich was not as I expected, though it was quite flavorful. I would have preferred to see and taste the textures of all ingredients listed: onions, pickles, tomatoes, pomegranate and tahini sauces, rather than have them stir fried, with the shawarma. Babylon's rice pudding was a total miss, with its mass of cinnamon atop, a gummy, thickish concoction, nut heavy, undercooked rice, kind of desert.

Love their food. I think this is the place make best kebabs in town. And such a lovely people, family operating the restaurant. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

Babylon Duo 1 special

We had the Babylon duo special 1. It includes all 3 types of kebab, pita, an appetizer and dessert. All the kebabs were amazing. Another pro is you can eat under a cool tent-like structure in their adjacent hookah lounge if you don't want to do take out. The day we went, the pita tasted a bit sad aka prepackaged (not sure if they say they make them homemade or not) and the hummus was not my preferred taste profile. I would again just for kebabs! I'd still love to try the baba ganoush, schwarma, Turkish coffee and baklava!

I had dinner a Casablanca with my husband and in laws last Saturday when we spent the day exploring…read moreNew Castle and Wilmington, and it was quite the experience. From the outside, it doesn't look like much; in fact, it looks like a bit of a dive from outside. But when you walk in, you are transported. The design of the restaurant is so special - community tables, pillows, tapestries, waterfall features, tiles, and belly dancing. The food was a little inconsistent. We shared many dishes: Bastilla (baked layers of filo dough, eggs, chicken, almonds, sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar); hummus (chickpeas, tahini, crushed garlic, lemon juice, sprinkled with paprika and olive oil, served with pita bread); Spanakopita; salad trio (eggplant salad, cucumber and tomato salad, and carrot salad); lamb tagine (stew of lamb, onions, and roasted peppers topped with honey and served with rice); Moroccan chicken with harissa cumin sauce; mujaddara (cracked bulgur wheat cooked with lentils and caramelized onions); and mint tea. I wish they didn't serve bottled waters, and the food was mostly good but not the most consistent. Our mujaddara wasn't served with the yogurt sauce listed on the menu, and the lamb with the tagine was incredibly fatty, making some of it inedible. The mint tea was really really really sweet - like syrup! I also wish the bastilla had a little less powdered sugar (I like on the dish, but it was A LOT of powdered sugar), and it was quite dry. But the eggplant salad, carrot salad, hummus, and mujaddara (even without the yogurt sauce) were great. I would happily have eaten just those dishes. They were busy - it's a popular place - but service was also a challenge. It took us almost a half hour to get the check and pay. I had to ask for the bill twice and then it still took a while to get it, for it to get picked up, and for it to come back to us. It's pretty bad if I'm considering walking up to the bar to get the check and pay. I loved the ambiance and the character. I loved that you can't tell how amazing it's going to be inside when you see the outside of the building - it's a surprise for sure. Our experience was that the food was a bit inconsistent, but it certainly was a fun meal.

Dinner and a show, I'm down! The show was good, but the food was just fine. Everything leaned too sweet for my liking. Our group of 4 got the $30 each 7 course family style meal. Spicy (not even that spicy!! (2/5 spice level IMO)) chicken and the eggplant dish at the beginning were my favorite dishes.

One of the owners, Baran, takes the time to explain Mediterranean options and how he purchases the highest-quality olive oil when he shops for the restaurant. What we chose for our second time experience: Appetizer: We decided on the Sauced Eggplant Entrees: Hubby chose the Branzino, and I chose the chicken kebab. There are extensive lamb choices and vegetarian offerings. I like dining here earlier in the week when it's not so busy. Today, I got the scoop on the large mural in the BYOB restaurant. Marden's Tower/Kiz Kulesi, a prominent landmark currently an observational tower, sits on an island on the Asian side of Istanbul. There is plenty of parking behind the restaurant, and You Can Dine Al fresco if you choose.

It's a cozy small place and we enjoyed sitting by the window, the music added to the ambiance. We ordered the cold appetizer selection and really enjoyed sampling the different items and the grilled pita was delicious. I ordered the hot tea, and loved it so I ordered another. Hubby ordered the Turkish coffee and it was served as customary in a mini delicate cup on an ornate tray with a cube of Turkish delight. It was also good, but not as thick and rich as we had experienced at another place prior. I ordered the dorado filets, which came with rice and salad. The salad was actually my favorite, it had a light dressing that I enjoyed. The fish smelled a bit fishy, and actually had quite a few bones. I ordered it filleted instead of whole for that reason. Needless to say, I didn't care for it as much as I could have. The grill flavor and marks were nice, but the smell and bones threw me off. The rice was overcooked but did taste nice, I didn't finish it either. Husband ordered a lamb dish that had cut up pieces of pita in, and a tomato sauce. It was okay but not great either. So overall, it was fun and I enjoyed the experience but not sure if I'll return or not. Maybe I'd order something else entirely and it would knock my socks off.
