    Garlic Naan

Holidays aren't festive without a feast at Himalayan Curry & Grill. this charming restaurant in downtown Lancaster, PA, with its cozy seating makes a meal more about the complete dining experience than any single element. If the soothing quiet music doesn't set the tone, then the great service and delectable food will. Whether you like your curry mild, medium, spicy, or eye-wateringly, mouth-on-fire burning hot, you can have it as you like it. A wide-ranging menu with set pricing for each category makes it easy to see what might fit one's budget. Though prices have risen in recent years, a meal at Himalayan is still a bargain, given the ample quantities served, refills on rice, etc. At noon they offer an all-you-can-eat buffet, for those wanting to sample broadly, and you can order off the menu anytime. Can't go wrong no matter if you go with Indian or Nepalese dishes. I went with the Mis Mas Tarkari and garlic naan--yummy. Seating is limited, so get your reservation early for any evening meal.

The food was good. The service was excellent. The tables are very close together. I cannot be a fair judge of the Malai Kofta: the texture threw me. Instead I shared (pilfered from) my companion's Mustard salmon Curry which was divine. I loved the sauce and the fish was perfect.

Located in downtown Lancaster serving up Nepalese and Indian food is Himalayan Curry & Grill. The high ratings across various review sites and top ranking among restaurants in Lancaster on TripAdvisor sealed the deal as this being our option for dinner. On weekends, make a reservation in advance as they are very popular and tend to get packed in their somewhat modestly sized dining area. Since it is a smaller space, it can get a bit loud, but not so much that you can't carry on a conversation. The staff are all incredibly friendly and do a great job of attending to guests. To drink, get the mango lassi, as it's served in a generous amount in a pilsner glass with wonderful yogurt and mango accents without being excessively sweet. It is served with ice which I thought would water it down, but chilled the drink perfectly. We started off with the vegetable and chicken pakoras. These were both incredibly fresh and flavorful. The vegetable pakoras were a different Nepali preparation distinct from typical North Indian styles, but we agreed they were tasty. For meals, we went with the chicken tikka masala off the Indian menu and the vegetable coconut curry off the Nepali menu. Both of these were incredibly fresh and flavorful, spiced just right, and prepared using high quality ingredients. The naan was prepared to perfection, and is served in generous portions (so big that we couldn't finish 2 orders of naan). The overall prices of the various menu items were very reasonable. While I don't have much experience in Nepalese cooking style and cuisine, this was a great dining experience in the heart of Lancaster. I'd definitely return and recommend Himalayan Curry & Grill to others.

I can't say enough about this restaurant. Unassuming ambiance. The hostess kindly seated my large party during the height of lunch buffet time after a short wait. The inside is remarkably quiet, and the decor is lovely. The buffet is pretty straightforward. $12/person. Take a plate and serve what you will eat. The most delectable chicken tikka, freshly replenished at lunch rush, over basmati rice with incredible palaak paneer. Veggies so delicately fried that it was crispy but not rancid, something I didn't even think was possible - and somehow the flavors of the fresh veggies not lost. Then, the fresh bread - the buttery hot soft and ever so perfectly charred bread to dip in the leftover sauces on your plate - Just wow. Ended the meal with the perfect amount of cold rice pudding - a light touch with floral notes of maybe clove? The servers were kind and friendly, the food was incredible. The price was unbeatable. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Wonderful experience!

Always a great time at Himalayan Grill and so happy that they reopened their indoor dining! If you get a chance, make a reservation to eat out at this restaurant. The restaurant is great for a date night (because it's romantic and ambient) or a get together with friends and family. Located on Orange Street, it's within walkable distance to the center where the Marriott Hotel is. Highly recommend !

My wife, acting as both navigator and oracle, found Norbu after I asked for something within walking distance of our hotel. Four Himalayan restaurants, all within a short stroll, which felt statistically suspicious in the heart of Amish country. We chose Norbu because it had the best reviews and, more importantly, because it offered Nepalese and Bhutanese dishes, which none of us had ever tried. We are a family that tries to make it a point to say yes to the unknown. Finding it is part of the adventure. Norbu is tucked along North Christian Street, though calling it a street feels optimistic at best. It is more of a very committed alley. The restaurant sits inside an office building with a few brave parking spaces placed carefully on postage stamp sized lot out front. Had we been driving, I am certain we would have missed it and continued on, poorer for the experience. Fortunately, we were on foot and arrived intact. Inside, the place was alive at 7 PM. There were low tables with stools that suggested a more traditional way of dining, and a couple of unoccupied standard tables for those of us still learning. We took one of the latter and were seated quickly. We began with momo, a dish that seems like could quietly solve many of the world's problems if placed on the right tables. Soft, hand folded dumplings, steamed and served with a savory chutney. We ordered the "Mix It All" option, which gave us vegetable, beef, and chicken. Each had its own personality, its own quiet argument for why it should be your favorite. My older son ordered the Sweet N Sticky Tofu, which was the most familiar thing we ate all night. It tasted like a thoughtful conversation between General Tso and sesame tofu. Very good, very well executed, just less novel. I had the Pak Sha Datsi, the national dish of Bhutan, which I did not know until I read it on the menu and our server filled in the missing information with patience and enthusiasm. Norbu itself, we learned, is rooted in Himalayan traditions and a desire to share the food and culture of Nepal and Bhutan with a wider audience, which feels like a noble use of time. The dish arrived as a gently spiced stew with pork and a blend of aged and smoked cheeses. It was creamy, delicate, and somehow grew more interesting with every bite. It did not resemble anything I had eaten before, which is a rare and welcome thing as I grow ever older. My wife and younger son both ordered the Nepali Thali, a kind of edible symphony made up of curry, lentils, vegetables, chutneys, pickles, and a dessert pudding. My wife chose the fish curry, which was tender and lightly flavored. My son chose the chicken curry, which quietly became the star of the table. It had a familiar warmth, something like Indian curry, but with its own distinct voice. The accompanying mustard greens, curried potatoes, and a simple mix of green beans, corn, and carrots, were so flavorful that we found ourselves marveling at them like tourists at a natural wonder. Service was excellent. Our waitress guided us through the menu, made thoughtful suggestions, and shared a bit of the restaurant's story. By the end of the meal, we felt not just fed, but informed. Our only failure was not saving room for dessert. There was a chai flavored cashew cheesecake that sounded like it might change a person's outlook on life. We will have to return to test this theory. Norbu is the kind of place you hope to find and rarely do. It is hidden, a little hard to reach, and entirely worth the effort. Five stars, because sometimes you find something amazing and new, and that reminds you that the world is still full of good surprises.

Plus hearing some people say the food had become inconsistent made me hesitate. But reading up on it today and learning about the new owner, it was time to see if they could win me back. They have. Compared to what I used to get here on the buffet, the tandoori chicken now seems to have more flavor. More of it is definitely hotter spice, but I did notice a fruity tang as well. I'm not complaining. I used to eat the tandoori chicken here regularly and I consider this upgraded. The vegetable pakora stood out. That dish definitely improved. It had a great crispiness and robust seasoning without being too overpowering. That got a second helping. I used to eat the pakora here all the time and I'd pick this over what I used to get. The paneer makhani tasted more like a korma sauce to me. It was more cream-based than tomato. I'm good with that because I love korma. You may judge accordingly. The chicken tikka masala was a little more basic to me. But it's a basic dish in general. Nothing really wrong with it, but it wouldn't be memorable to experienced Indian food lovers. The mango lassi used to be a little thin and more sweet than fruity. Now it's thicker and more of a mango taste. Upgrade. I also used to love the kheer here. Somehow I think I love it more now. Another upgrade. My taste for Indian has evolved over the years. I've just eaten it a lot and I've tried a lot more local places. There are places that are serving more authentic food out there. This is still slightly tailored to more novice eaters I believe. It always was in my mind. But that's not a bad thing. They're back in my Indian rotation.

The Chili Momo was very hot. Regardless of heat level, the food was incredibly good. The flavor was off the charts. The Pork Kaan was so hot, it was giving me runway model lips. But it was still sooooo good. Smoky flavor, crispy/chewy texture, etc. The momo had a decent amount of filling and the dough was very thin. The samosa chaat was probably the lease impressive . . . but it was still good. The food was nicely packaged in metal to-go containers with plastic lids. It was already stacked well in a plastic bag. The price wasn't terrible. I was out of there for under $50 for 4 dishes. I only have one complaint. The guy taking my order tried to talk me out of the spicy and unique dishes. He said I wouldn't like the Kaan because Americans don't like it. When I said I wanted some dishes extra extra spicy, he tried to talk me out of it multiple times. I didn't mind the guidance, but I don't like the assumption that people like me don't like spicy food. And if I confirm I really do want it spicy, please don't keep trying to convince me otherwise. Despite having to argue for spicy food, the food itself was absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to go back and try some of their other dishes.
