Amazing spot! I want to give it 5 stars, but I'd like to try a few other places in town first before deciding if this is truly the best. I'll definitely update my review once I do. The food was flavorful. I got the goat, and morcilla (blood sausage) and my partner got the beef, platanos, and yuca. His beef was fall-off-the-bone tender, platinum, and yuca was great. My goat was a bit chewy, and morcilla a bit dry, but still very tasty. I'd definitely come back to try their other à la carte dishes. There are so many choices even if I went back every day for lunch for a week, I still would not be able to sample all that they offer. I couldn't take a pic of my partner's plate as it was so good he inhaled all of it, I barely got any, and that's how you know his plate was amazing!! Authentic, homemade Hispanic deliciousness!!! Was staying 10 minutes away and was told the food was amazing. Had the Pernil & Yellow rice with beans on the side and a plate of oxtail, smothering the rice with gravy from the steamy food table you can choose from many delectable entrees, priced very well and all the food you can see was fresh. Huge assortment of imported juices & drink you will enjoy the Latin taste and smells of the kitchen that fill the room. Staff was very comforting and served high heaping plates you can feed 2 people with one serving. Hope you try this place. I will be returning without hesitation. read more

I don't know who rated this place with four stars. People who clearly have not had quality Dominican food. This is not it. This is cooking without love, without care... this is dreadful. To start, the plantains are cold, greasy and rubbery. As I scanned the food on the other side of the glass, it was clear that I was in the wrong place. The beef was dried out, the rice was dry and clumpy. Dominican rice melts in your mouth and it is moist and light. It most certainly is NOT clumpy! The food is not covered to preserve its flavor and freshness. Instead it is left out in the open to dry out. All of the meat was over cooked and stale. Their only saving grace (see the 1 star) was the baked chicken, which could use less salt. The empanadas were also stale and disgusting. Whoever owns this dive should be ashamed to call themselves Dominican. I have never seen food prepared and kept so carelessly and poorly. I'm from NYC and you would be hard pressed to find food like this. They need to do better or close down. As a chef, you should take pride in your dishes. The goal is to get patrons to return! Do better. I wish I could get my money back. But to warn others about this place suits me just fine. read more

This place has the best Spanish food in the Lancaster area, in my opinion. They serve such traditional delicacies as mangu, ox-tail, goat, and fried cheese. If you're a little less adventurous, the classic yellow rice with beans and a side of thin cut steak is amazing! Ridiculously amazing food, service, and atmosphere! THE BEST when it comes to latin food. The service and the staff and owners treat everybody like family regardless of what language you speak. The staff do a good job of explaining combo options and describing the different types of food, and are very friendly. The line at lunchtime is often long, but it moves quickly. My brothers and I always go here when my mom doesn't feel like making any food. It's got to be the best dominican food in all of downtown. I like how they always have a variety of foods, especially meats. The food is very well seasoned and not overly salted. Their beans are so good that you can eat them straight out of the bowl. No fancy restaurant, but the food at la cocina is always great and their appearance is clean. The place is designed with mostly tables for four and you have to walk up to a buffet type counter and tell them what you want. I like that they always have a variety of choices to pick from. Pork, chicken, pepper steak, white rice, yellow rice, beef or chicken stew just to name a few. One thing that I do keep an eye on is...when they are serving my food on my plate... they often put way too much rice. Overall, the food is always satisfying and friendly staff. read more

The restaurant has an authentic feel. I had the vegetarian combo, and they were kind enough to add a little chicken to the tostada and keep the rest vegetarian. The price is also cheap, so it's great value for money. The food could be more spicy, and tasty. In mexico, food is not this bland. I didn't get a chance to try the food the other day because on a slow afternoon with only one other customer seated, the two ladies working decided they would rather carry an obnoxious personal conversation while avoiding eye contact with me as I stood at the counter waiting. Also, both offered terrible customer service and became visibly offended when I was unsure what to order. Honestly, I have been to restaurants where they make recommendations and are very proud to talk about their menu. Not at this store, it seems they were too bothered by my interrupting their conversation and being a first time customer with questions.
