    Just a chill spot.

I will say this is some of the best Caribbean/Jamaican food in Toledo. That's saying something too. Recently the Toledo area has seen an influx of Jamaican food in the form of carry out spots and food trucks mostly. A lot of them are located in some sketchy areas, and the food itself is lacking. This new restaurant located on the edge of Old Orchard (loooooove this neighborhood) is a very welcome addition. The food was great, spicy but GREAT. Everything from the rice and beans to the meat pie were perfectly seasoned. We of course had to get the jerk chicken. It's the one thing we get from every Caribbean spot we pop into. This was right up there with (IMHO) the best jerk chicken in the area. The meat was of course perfectly seasoned, but it was also cooked to perfection. It wasn't dry or tough despite us getting there a half hour before close. Portions were very generous, our rice and beans were enough to serve several people. Of course we went for the food- but let's talk service. TOP NOTCH. The woman who I assume is an owner or at least co-owner was sooooooo helpful. She explained some of the dishes that were less familiar to us and let us know one of our items (that we added at the very last minute) would be made to order and require a wait. That's good practice. A lot of folks ordering carry out are not keen on waiting. Lastly: embarrassing as it was for me my boyfriend complained about his jerk chicken. He thought he only got ONE piece despite me explaining that a leg and a thigh (even attached) is two pieces. ‍. He approached the counter and not only did the owner not correct him or explain that he was given the correct amount, she APOLOGIZED and gave him another leg in his order. She had a very professional and kind way AFTER giving him another piece of chicken of explaining that they often serve the leg and thigh still together. Lastly: the staff seemed GENUINELY happy to be at work. I've worked in restaurants and it can be a pretty miserable environment. That speaks volumes. The place was very clean, great raggae music in the background, and as we established has some very good staff. We will be back, probably often. We are so happy to have them join our neighborhood and hope they are successful.

Definitely legit Jamaican food. The curry was nice and spicy. I am only in town for 1 day but will definitely order dinner here after having an amazing lunch.

Favorite restaurant in Toledo! New jerk salmon is one of a kind. The buffet platter is a feast. Service is great. Everything cooked to order and yummy.

I also ordered the jerk chicken for another person in my party. We were both very satisfied with the food. The flavor is authentic Jamaican and the portion sizes are generous. I visited to experience the cuisine, which I haven't had much of admittedly. However, after reading several reviews I was led to try it. There was a large order ahead of me, and since there is only one gentleman, the owner, preparing the food, I was there for over an hour waiting for my carryout. I definitely can't stress enough how important it is to order ahead. The menu is small but mighty. It consists of jerk chicken, curry chicken, oxtails, curry goat red snapper, salmon, and Rasta Pasta for the mains. Side dishes include yams, rice & peas, cabbage, plantain and other items. He also sells juices and Jamaican beef patties. Now admittedly, I'm a lightweight when it comes to spices, particularly heat. I don't care for hot spices this is why I shied away from eating Caribbean food. *haha* I ordered the pasta thinking I would be avoiding the curry and the jerk seasonings. But being unfamiliar with the dish, I was wrong. The dish was full of flavor and very spicy. If you like that sort of thing, I am sure you will enjoy it as it had a deep flavor as if it was stewed overnight. The pasta comes with chicken, which was very tender and juicy. I also had a beef patty. The crust was flaky and delicious, as was the beef filling. Before I left, I shared with the owner that I had planned to leave a review on Yelp. He shared with me a letter that he had received from Yelp congratulating him on his driving business. He is humble, with a great spirit. I enjoyed him. I highly recommend Caribbean Authentic Cuisine. Whether you're familiar with the cuisine or you're looking to try something new, this is a great choice.

The flavors hit you right away: smoky bold layered and so full of character that you instinctively slow down just to enjoy it. I had that little eyelid sweat going which is always the sign of the perfect level of heat enough to wake you up but never enough to drown out the flavor. Everything on my plate was a win but the chicken stole the show. It was tender juicy and seasoned with that deep jerk flavor that only comes from someone who knows exactly what they are doing. The rice and peas deserve their own shoutout. The texture was spot on and the seasoning tasted intentional like someone put real care into every step. Then the mango cake came out and completely surprised me. Light moist and gently sweet it balanced the spice from the meal in the best way. The turnover was another standout with buttery flaky dough and a warm spiced filling that made it hard to stop eating. From the first bite to the last this meal felt like comfort joy and craft. Jamaican Jerk Pit is easily one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time.

I have consistently come here to get food throughout the years and it has been so rewarding to continue to see Yum Village be such a pillar in the city and in the food industry! The service here is incredible, you don't bus anything yourself. I also noticed that the staff that day was all women, from everyone front of house to the chefs in the back as well preparing the food, which was extra fun! They are so attentive to us and even when there was a snaffoo with on of my party's orders. They paid with cash and I think perhaps that messed up the tracking of the order through the system? I'm not entirely sure. As for the food, Yum Village has maintained some of the same dishes throughout the years, while also adding and/or rotating a ton of other dishes through the menu. I can definitely confirm that the garlic parm jerk chicken remains my favorite and that the spice level, while still plentiful and intense, has eased up a bit in recent years. Either that or that I have become more spice heat-tolerant! Either way, the portions also remain huge, so there was a ton of food to take home! I love the truffle collard greens, the deeply unique and flavorful corncakes, and also the star of the show this go around was the deliciously complex fried cheesy fufu! It oozes so much flavor and is the perfect addition to any meal and very shareable as well! Keep up the great work, Yum Village!!

Everything was DELICIOUS! A kind of spicy that slowly builds too, which I found really pleasant. I also tried bites off some of friends' orders, like a bit of cornbread, the fried cheesy fufu, the garlic parm chicken. Everything was so good. Huge portions! Even the smallest size option was enough food to have leftovers for at least another big meal. They have bigger size options too for the extra hungry. Only bumping it down a star because they had some trouble with one of my friends' order. I guess it didn't go through to the kitchen, but one of the ladies noticed and asked my friend for her receipt so they could get her food going. However, seemed like they then lost that too because it wasn't until after two of us got our food and had been munching for a bit that they realized no one had started on our friend's order. Came out fast after that. Easily 5 stars without the ordering hiccup!
