Food is "Ok"! Rice is too starchy!! Fatty cuts of meat! But what really upsets me with this place is you have to order on site! Meaning I cannot call ahead and have it ready! I have to wait at the location!! That's not acceptable! And they have lost business due to this practice! Update;: food has improved considerably!! I'm from Toledo and never been here. Was home for a visit and came to check it out after all the raving reviews from family, friends and strangers. Ordered the half jerk and oxtails with fried cabbage and mac and cheese. The oxtails were not for me but I'm told this dish may have been the best Jamaican food my companion has had and he has a great palate. The jerk chicken was so tender, fell off the bone and had a nice hit of spice and flavor. The fried cabbage was good and seasoned well. It wasn't overly soft and had a nice bite to it. The mac was my least favorite. It has a cheese in it that is very distinctive and I don't care for it. Not sure if it is but it tastes like the taco seasoning shredded cheese that has seasoning on it. Other than that it was great. We came in a Saturday evening around 8:45. There was a dj in the dining area and the music was loud like a club, the lights were dimmed and there was a disco light on. It was a nice vibe. A nice place to maybe enjoy a drink if you don't plan on talking. I'll be back. read more

i literally made an account to leave a review of this restaurant. i just want to say that this is my favorite establishment in toledo; the portions are big and the cooking is so flavorful and made with love. i frequently get multiple orders of plantains (as they are one of my favorite foods) and they are made better than any other restaurant i've ordered them at. the chicken is always so tender and juicy and fall off the bone, not to mention incredibly flavorful and full of seasoning. the cabbage is incredible and so is their coco bread. i cannot recommend jamaican spice enough -- you'll love it!! read more

The food here (at least at the location on Sylvania) is excellent. Jerk chicken can't be beat. The ambiance is a little weird; like they want to be a dance club but they really don't have the space for it. But the food is fantastic and worth it. Just don't expect to dine in and have a conversation over dinner. read more

I visited two days after opening. I will definately return. The food was hot and delicious when it was served. The stir fried veggies were overcooked, and almost mushy but had a good taste. I think that once they are open a bit longer these little things will get ironed out. read more

OMG. This is the best Jamaican jerk chicken I've had in years. I can't count the times I was disappointed because what they called jerk chicken was a tasteless imitation. Bland and no spice. For Toledo you cannot get better Jamaican food this place is restaurant bar and dancehall so on Friday thru the week end you will hear some Reggae tunes. We ordered the curry goat Jerk Shrimp and catfish the curry goat was very tender and delicious the Jerk Shrimp was good I think though it needed a dipping sauce and the catfish was really good the sides we good. Live in the neighborhood and decided after a recommendation to stop in with the family. The place is clean and bright. The owner came out and allowed us to sample several of the menu highlights, finding some delicious options available. I went with braised oxtail, fried plantains, and stir fried cabbage. There was no bite of food that was anything short of outstanding. The other guests with me ate (and loved) the curry chicken, brown stewed chicken, and the goat. Nobody finished their meal. Ordered food the other night for delivery and it wasn't that good at all. I'm not sure if it was because it was take-out instead of eat in, but the food just wasn't tasty. This food was amazing! I got the jerk chicken with Festival (a sweet corn dumpling) and coco bread. The chicken was spicy, juicy, and literally fell off the bone on my first bite. The festival was sweet and savory; cooked to a beautiful dark golden brown. I can't even explain how well the coco bread mopped up the juices and exploded with flavor in my mouth. So i went here with a friend who raves about the other location, and insisted that the food was very good. My expectations were high going in, but wow...the first time in a LONG time that i didn't eat most of my food and left hungry still. Let's start with the ambiance...which looked like almost no thought was put into it, as if they picked up whatever tables and chairs they could find in every garage sale in town, and threw it all together. Then they put up a couple streamers and balloons (yes, I'm serious) and said, "now let's charge people an arm and a leg for the privy of eating here." Because the prices were so high, i thought for sure the food must be good. Maybe it would be after several drinks, but they don't have a liquor license...so no drinks. The waitress was pleasant, but with only one other table in the whole place and ours...she was apparently very busy, and i sat with an empty water for almost 10 minutes. So the food: i ordered a combo of oxtail and curry goat. The oxtail has almost no meat on it, and it was tough and bland. The curry goat was one of the most disgusting things I've ever tried to eat. SO many tiny little bones in it, and the aftertaste was so bad it's no wonder I was impatiently wanting my water refilled. The rice and beans had literally no flavor. None. I was told because the rest of the food is so flavorful, it is intentionally bland. If that's how you like your food...maybe you'll feel differently! The callaloo was the best thing on my plate, and I'd give that a solid C+ rating. read more

Decided to check out this neighborhood eatery, I would give it a 4.5/5. The food was really tasty, I got the curried chicken chicken, rice and peas, and festival (like a donut, saved it for dessert and it was fantastic). My date also enjoyed his food and got the brown stew chicken, rice and peas, and coco bread. The server was very sweet and tentive to us. The downsides were unfortunately, the restuarant was empty giving it a lack of atmosphere and the meals come with pop included but no free refills.
