Ok I've been coming here for years. Lots of items with good prices. When you sell it's pretty low but at least you get something for your stuff. Now my most recent visit- my goodness the counter girl was rude AF! Like the rudest dang B you can find. Most condescending questions, not helpful, throwing my receipt on the counter and classic RBF face. They need to hire some better staff ASAP. read more

Staff is rude. The entire time they went through my things they would look at an item the look up and dog me. 90% of my items weren't even accepted and what's crazy is I have so many clothes that the clothes I went to donate weren't used but just sat and collected dust. the entire experience was trash. As mentioned earlier. The staff is rude. I run my own business and this experience is just crazy. LITERALLY JUST GO TO KID TO KID OFF GILBERT RD read more

I used to love this store. I understand that pricing everywhere went up but unfortunately their pricing here is extremely bad. Found some super cute old navy outfits but they were 5.50. I go to old navy sales all the time and I get the same outfits for 7. I'd rather pay the extra $1.50 and get the item NEW with no stains. They also price the brand m+a (from Walmart) for $7.99 when you can buy it new for $10. Cat& Jack pants are $4.50 but new in store they're $5 or $6. Prices just don't make sense. And I know I know, "if you don't like the prices then don't shop there" which is exactly why I won't be shopping here anymore. I worked for kid to kid for years (a similar store) and once upon a child was so much better with selection and price so I sent everyone here. I tell everyone to go to thrift stores instead or eBay. Better prices. It's ridiculous to go here when you want to save money and get things for $2 cheaper than normal price. Better off just going to regular stores when things are on sale, which is ALL THE TIME. ONLY thing here that is priced reasonably are their sleepers. And you have to triple check them for those diaper stains! read more

I'm not sure they care about negative reviews. Which says something by itself. But, nevertheless....terrible customer service. Staff is rude, not even a minimal amount of effort to be friendly. I've sold clothes here a few times and this most recent time I just decided to turn around and go to a donation center. Not worth it in the least. Maybe they aren't hurting for resale clothes, but they will be if people just decide it's not worth the effort and terrible service. read more

I wish I could give 0 starts. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. This place is racist I SAID IT. Took a whole bin for them to only give me an offer of $7. I'm a single mom and I was there with my baby & the girls working there are no help. I don't expect anyone to help with my baby but going out your way to open the door, ask if I need a bag , ask if I find everything ok etc is costumer service & this place has NONE. read more

Very disappointed with what they offered to pay for good used toys like new condition. Better off giving away. Have bought stuff there for years but this particular location may be different in what they offer maybe. read more

I give one star just because I have found some cute items here. Kids are constantly growing so I have brought in new clothes, gently used clothes that were maybe worn once, and toys here a few times. At the most recent visit on Tuesday, the girl at the intake counter couldn't have been more rude. She's helped me before and hasn't been friendly once. She acts like you're a problem for bringing in clothes, when this is actually the reason she even has a job. She never smiles, just takes your stuff and tells you it will be hours as if to deter you from leaving stuff. Some employees are nice, but they are very few and far between. Next time I guess I'll just donate the clothes or throw them away rather than come here and be treated poorly. read more

My mother took my two year daughter here to buy some pants. My daughter is potty training and had to use the restroom, so my mom asked if they could use theirs since she's potty training. The staff at this location refused to let my daughter use the bathroom, resulting in my daughter having an accident in the store! This was not only humiliating and embarrassing for my daughter but also my mother! I realize covid is going on, but have a LITTLE UNDERSTANDING AND COMPASSION for the adults who are potty training the children. Both myself and my parents will never do business with this establishment again and I'll also be letting my mom friends know of the horrible service this establishment has to offer. Shame on you!! read more

Staff is very friendly. You get small amount for even brand new items but something is better than nothing. You do not get a discount on items purchased same day you sell. Same amount cash or store credit. Good bargains so it makes sense they would give you very little for items. read more

A great place for picking up items for the great grandchildren. Some of the items are new , most are slightly used. But very good prices.

STAFF IS EXTREMELY RUDE. Employees have a bad attitude and do not care about customers. Trust the reviews. Filthy store. Very unorganized, dirty and stained clothes on the racks. Shoes piled up with no organization. I wouldn't recommend. read more

It seems like the younger workers are always nicer, but there's a lady there that's either the manager or owner and she is awful. I feel like I'm in trouble for asking simple questions and like it's such an inconvenience to her that you're there. Really disappointed because I like buying here, but after 2 negative experiences with her I don't want to give my business to this store. I also think they're getting greedy. They are offering way less money for your trade in's and their prices have gone up. read more

Great concept and some good finds, but it is hit or miss. There will be a stained t-shirt for $6 but an entire lined ASU track suit for the same price. It seems at times there is no method to the madness. And by madness, I mean literally and figuratively. Most of the workers seem unhappy and there are way too many items and aisles crammed into this small space. We literally could not get out pj's from the special aisle in the back by toys because there were far too many items. Items are not in the correct spots either, although I know this is hard to police unless workers are constantly combing each aisle. We rarely pay full price for kids clothes because they stain it and/or outgrow it in about 5 minutes. Most of the items are still under retail, although some more than others. Check out the clearance racks in the back for good finds and they have great costumes for Halloween and theme clothing around other holidays. Often have the large ticket baby furniture and toy items as well. Like their FB page for "just in" popular items and get a stamp card for 20% off after numerous purchases. read more

Staff can be so rude, absolutely no heart at all. If you don't really need the money, donate your clothes or sell elsewhere. I don't understand how they can be in this business and be so cold to moms simply trying to make some much needed cash by selling outgrown clothes. I hope one day they will hire only people who are caring because this rude treatment to customers that have done nothing wrong to them is rally disrespectful. Kid to kid doesn't treat people like that so recommend that store on higley/baseline. read more

They are under new management and you can definitely tell. I was greeted when I came in, the store is so much less cluttered, more organized and the cashier was very kind. Such a more enjoyable experience! read more

Wonderful store, great shopping experience. The owner was so kind and gently helpful.

The reviews are right, staff was very rude. Particularly one woman who was rude to me and her coworkers. The owners seemed to be there during my visit and this woman still was snapping at people. Go to the other one in Tempe. Forget this place and this nasty woman who works there. read more

This was my first time in this store and the customer service was lacking but not terrible as others described. The store is very well organized and clean which is very nice. It was my first time selling and the process is fast and very efficient. I brought in about 20 pairs of girl's pants/jeans; about 3-4 of them being brand new with tags and without tags. They bought about 13 of them and paid me $11. I think the buy back amount is very low and therefore the reason for my 3 star score. They don't offer a higher amount to use as credit to shop either, like other stores. I think Kid to Kid has a better buy back program. read more

Save your time and money and go elsewhere!! The staff is rude, unhelpful, and treat different people differently. I walk in and no one said hello or nothing to acknowledge my presence and they looked me straight in the face. Another woman (white) walks in not too long after me and all 3 staff immediately say hello and welcome in. I walked right out and felt downright horrible. I would rather go to Target where teenagers have better manners than these grown racist women. I would rather pay full price for new things than save a couple bucks and buy used and better quality things. read more

I don't think I could say enough about this store!! I love it! I just had my first baby and this store has been such a blessing. Kids go through clothes so much faster than I realized and since I didnt know the gender of my baby till she was born, I needed clothes. It has also been great for baby gear and toys. I check out the toy selection as often as I am nearby and they always have tons. My daughter loves anything that makes noise so I'm always on the hunt. Everyone here is always super helpful and nice. They also have great sales regularly. I highly recommend the store!! read more

Worst experience ever at Once Upon A Child! I go to them all the time but this one had the rudest staff! They forced me to stay and wait and it took over a half hour! Only to deny most of my things and waists my time because I complained about keeping my toddler and infant there waiting so long! Miserable people and miserable experience! I'll not be coming to this location any time soon! read more

Love this place they have some good brand gently used baby clothes n shoes they also have baby furniture and maternity clothes and toys you name it they got it in all sizes it's a store I have been shopping at for over 27 years they have moved a bit in the years but the clothes is always in great condition and great priced Nike and vans are like 10 bucks I live several miles away but now that my kids outgrew this store I shop for my grand kids and I'll continue to drive for great quality clothes here. read more

Employees are very rude and make you not feel welcomed...I have never once sold to ANY once upon a child location, gone to the seller counter, and then been told by a rude girl with a Mickey Mouse shirt on you need to get in the back of the customer line to pick up my own things after asking me if I received a text message or not in regards to picking up my clothing!! Rude girl she's not a woman in my eyes she's unprofessional and a girl!! Please hire better employees!! read more

I buy most of my kids clothes here since we can't afford to buy brand new ones very often! Prices to me are reasonable and affordable. I have never had an issue with customer service either, always friendly and welcoming read more

If your store hours say you close at 5pm, then I would assume all registers would stay open but when we got there at 4pm, they had already closed the register to buy clothes. I don't know if this is standard practice or if they just wanted to close up and leave early. If this is standard, it should be posted on your website. As we were loading the kids into the car, a worker walks out the door to her car with a cigarette hanging (unlit) from her mouth...wow, what a great example to kids. read more

I'm rather surprised there are so many bad reviews. Yeah, they low-ball people but if you want a good price for your items do the extra work and sell them on FB marketplace. If you just want to get rid of stuff and make a few bucks then this is a good place. I've never sold anything here but I've bought a ton of stuff. I've found their prices to be pretty reasonable and have gotten a lot of adorable clothes for my daughter. I've found most of the clothes they sell are in good shape and they sell a decent amount of brand new stuff. I agree with other reviewers that they don't do a great job of washing the toys but I clean anything I buy anyway so it's not a big deal. I do think their toys tend to be on the expensive side. Their shoe selection leaves a lot to be desired as well. Again, like other reviewers, I've found that their staff isn't all that friendly or helpful but I've also never had anyone be rude. Overall I'd recommend this place for cute, well priced clothes. read more

I always find everything I'm looking for and more when I visit once upon a child for my 6yr old son. at a quarter of the price!!

First off, to those who left the reviews during the mask mandate for Covid-19, all I have to say to you is grow up. Second, to those who say the prices offered for buying your items are too low, sell it online. They offer you same day cash to get things off your hands. AND, if they arent purchasing your stuff, maybe its because it's not "new or gently used" like they ask for. OR it could be out of season. If you wanted to sell it online, you would have done it. So stop complaining. Third, most of the reviews that are on here are from 2+ years back, which I would say shouldn't be part of the score. Things change overtime and letting these old, stagnant reviews count towards the score of the store today just seems silly. Finally, my review. If you're going to go in and sell things, go in early. There is no limit on how many bins of items you can bring, so if a whole bunch of people have come in before you, they're going to be sorted first. It's a first-come-first-serve basis. This does mean that it can take a while, but they don't ask you to stay in the store while they get everything done. All they ask is you come back an hour before they close so they can cash you out and give your items back. Items do HAVE to be given back as they have limited space to keep them until donation. On the bright side, there is a Goodwill just across the street. As far as clothes go, it's similar to Goodwill but higher quality. Some items are even brand new with the tags still attached! The toys are sold in new or gently used condition, so if pieces and parts are missing, the item is generally a lower price. Large equipment like strollers, bouncers, and swings are usually HALF of what you'd purchase them for in a normal store or online. They also test everything before purchase so if you want to see, just ask and they will show you, which is nice. The lines for check out and sometimes get long, but they're only human and they do have to take the hangers off of every item, as they reuse them. Overall this store has a lot of great things and deserves a better rating then the years old reviews make it look. read more

I love the Once Upon A Child stores-- I've been to each store in the state of Arizona. It's a fantastic place to shop for clothes and toys since babies grow out of those two things quickly. I noticed about a month or so ago that they probably don't clean anything that they have sold in; just buy it and slap it on the shelves. I purchased a play gym from the Scottsdale Rd location and brought it home. It was only once I opened the gym up that I noticed there was a large spit up spot. Not a stain as if they washed it and it was a little discolored but clean. The fur on the gym was matted flat down with the spit up. But I knew I got a good price, though I was very thrown off with the fact that they didn't make sure it was clean before resale. Any thing I can just throw in the washer I can live with, since that's what I do with the clothes I purchase as well. Yesterday (Monday, April 22nd, 2019) I visited the Gilbert location like I have before for clothes. It was tote day so I went ahead and grabbed myself a good few amount of things. Two of those things being a Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo ($40) and a Graco Pack n' Play ($20). I have a 4 month old and she's my first, so I'm a little weird about what exactly I put her in/around, so I make sure everything gets a wash. I was only going to wipe down the Jumperoo with diluted bleach, but figured I should take it apart. Imagine the surprise when I pulled one of the toys off and whatever mess of food or whatever it is that was packed against the toy smeared across my hand. My anger went through the roof and I made sure to pull all of those difficult toys off, losing one of my real nails in the process. I called the store immediately, but there was no real person to reach. The automatic voice system gave me the option to leave a message for an employee to call back or email a manager. I went ahead and left a very descriptive run down of what had happened, my phone number and my name and requested a call back. Today I received no phone call but a text message offer for double points on my next purchase through their rewards system. I don't have time to make the 14mile trip there and 14mile trip back to the store with an infant, so I sucked it up and boiled hot water and added bleach for the toys. I did the same but in the bathtub for the whole large pieces. I was also distressed when I realized I couldn't take the cover off the pack n play to wash off the large stain that was on the pad. After the Jumperoo, I ran another bath with detergent and hand washed that as well. I wasn't unknowing that they didn't clean their items, but to me this is over be top and the items should at least be looked at. Not sure when I'll be buying any thing else from the store after yesterday. Miserable, read more

My wife was at the store last night 12/13/2022 to buy a doll house. It would not fit in our Sequioa so we opted to come back next day with a trailer. The girl at counter "said not to worry I will put on hold for you." We offered to pay twice but were told to "just pay when pick up". Well I am here to pick it up today 12/14/2022 and a Skinny dark haired manager, with No Empathy or Sympathy to the situation just stated. " Holds are for 2 hours, sorry. We sold that this morn and holds are 2 hours. When I asked for the manager I got the classic "I am the manager" like a broken record. With no care to the xmas gift now sold on my daughter who saw it last night. No care to the misinformation given out. Basically acting like we are lying about not knowing about some 2hr hold. (We were never told about). Sorry we do not know their internal policies. I rented a trailer to pick this up and am out my money, time, and have to break it to my daughter no doll house. All the employee (manager) did was toss me the owners business card and said "contact the owner, I cant do anything for you". DO NOT SHOP HERE, the staff is horrible. read more

Always thought this store was overpriced and never really found anything worth buying. Everything is always stained, has little holes, or missing zippers on sleepers, etc. I stopped going in because the employees go out of their way to be rude but I saw a post on Instagram of two onesies from Walmart they had marked at $3.50 when they are $3 brand new so I posted the link and they deleted my comment I'm starting to see why they only have bad reviews everywhere! read more

Once Upon A Child - Children's Clothing Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

This is the last time I will sell here and after reading the recent reviews I should of saved my time from even going there. I don't understand their rational of their purchasing, it's very random. They completely lack customer service. I waited in line to see what they wanted to purchase. 4 staff member behind the counter chatting and moving baskets around and one cashier. When it's my turn, the cashier tells the owner or manager next to her, gosh I'm so busy. I opened my mouth and said because you are the only one helping customers. The manager piped in and explained that their are many duties that need to be taken care of too. In my mind, customers always come first! Maybe that's part of the poor reviews of this location. Lack of customer service will kill your business. No excuses!!!! read more

This is the only once upon a child, that doesn't give you anything for trade in clothing. The other chains you get a decent amount back! Here, they'll take your newer clothes, name brand items and you'll get maybe $10 for all of it. I'm not really sure how they give nothing, seems a little bit of a scam. I like the tempe and scottsdale locations much better! Friendlier, they also always have specials going on! The Gilbert location never has any specials and they don't advertise Tuesdays are 20% off with the once upon a child bag.. all the other stores advertise it! You have to say something to them for them to acknowledge it.. another way they are dishonest. read more

Shakedown at the Door I went in to buy a bunch of clothes for my son when I noticed a baby carrier. I thought I could buy the carrier, put it on in the bathroom, and then have free hands to buy him clothes (since I was holding him at the time). I paid for the carrier, tried to go into the bathroom to put it on, they were closed for COVID or whatever, so I left and was accused of theft at the door. I had already paid for the item - but even if I hadn't - I understand this is a business, but this is a chain used children's thrift store. If I worked there & saw a young mom with a baby carrying one thing walking out I'd turn a blind eye. Idk. The whole thing made me pretty sad. This was my first experience at this store. Will likely stick to Target from now on. read more
